Beware.This antenna's built in clips are not compatible with the metal oval superdish.
Incompatible with single receiver systems
Nowhere in the description or packaging does it say that this antenna requires a satellite multiswitch. A multiswitch is used for systems using more than 1 TV/receiver. The antenna amplification comes from the satellite multiswitch, and without amplification, this antenna is no better than a pair of simple rabbit ears.
Horrible HDTV Antenna
This antenna was a tremendous waste of money.It did not do any of the things advertised on Amazon.com or Terk.com.I could only barely receive 1 station and that picture was very poor quality.I can get 3 channels with rabbit ears and they are much better quality.It also significantly reduced, 10-15%,the signal reception on all 3 satellite LNB's.I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an HDTV antenna.This poor quality device added to the poor quality of DirecTV in general makes me wish everyday that I had stayed with Cable TV. ... Very good, economical receiver
I used this for more than a year and was quite happy w/ the menuing system.It is an affordable edition for a child's or teenager's room and is less expensive than what DirecTV will supply.

Channel switching problems with Tivo
I bought this one because it had the "low speed data" cable which makes Tivo channel switching nice/fast.However, the unit has now automatically downloaded some new software with bugs which makes some of my local channels not accessible.Basically, you can't select some of the local channels by typing them in - only by doing channel up/down.The problem with that is that Tivo "types them in" when you change channels, so basically Tivo won't record on local channels. problems galore
I have had direct Tv for nearly 6 years and had various receivers.All have been reliable and did a good job, but this one.Have had Sharp, Sony, Phillips and RCA.RCA was least responsive.Going through the guide was slow.I was forever changing batteries.With the others I would change them once a year, but with this one it was more like once a month.Had lag time on the local channel, not the difference in speed, but lag...stop and hold for a second on the image.Very irritation.Read more

This is your standard, run of the mill, directv oval dish.It goes up pretty easily, although you'll need your own compass, and unfortunately, it also comes with no mounting hardware and no RG6 cables, so there's more to buy than just this item...

Improves reception but . . .
no more than the rabbit ears that came with the television.As long as you can try it and then return it, worth a try based on others' reviews where they did have good luck with this antenna.Didn't work for me.

Better Than No Antenna
I bought this antenna to replace the out of the box dipole antenna that came with my television.I live in an area that has only UHF stations and hoped that this antenna would improve the overall reception.Hookup was easy and placement was no problem because of its small stature. However, when I turned my TV on I was surprised that my reception had downgraded rather than improved.I tried several different placements and adjustments to the antenna with marginal results.This may be a unique occurence but I don't want anyone to be fooled into thinking that this antenna is the end all be all.Keep your receipt you just might need to return it!

Great Value
I was trying to get local HD channels added to my dish network setup.I tried a directional NONamplified antenna and after 30 minutes of fiddling for the best angle, these are the signal strength numbers I got:
No better reception than a coax cable
I decided to get rid of cable (too expensive). Living in downtown Milwaukee, I should probably get many channels with an antenna )(one would think). Unfortunately, I didn' have one. So, at first, I hooked up a two three foot coax cables to a splitter (to create a dipole type thing) and I hooked this up to the TV. I got okay reception from this. Time to pick up an antenna.
Good, but probably could be better.
With this antenna, hi definition channels look really good. I disagree with the other reviews where they say that it works better without being plugged in. When I unplug it, my signal immediately dies. Another problem I found is that sometimes when I walk by the antenna, the picture on the tv can skip, this also happens on windy days. Also, the unit doesnt come with any instructions, which was disappointing. If you do buy this antenna, you have to run the "Channel search" feature on your TV or else you will get NOTHING, I was forced to figure that out by myself. I got more channels with the bare wire than with the antenna
RCA dropped the ball with this one.I don't know how it's possible, but the reception actually got WORSE when I connected the ANT711.I snagged a 40" Boom Length, 17 Elements Outdoor Antenna for UHF-Only from Radio Shack for $25 and now I get every digital station in the area.It's not as pretty, but I'm more concerned with RECEPTION than AESTHETICS.

I've been a DirecTV subscriber since 1995, using the same RCA system (first generation) before I upgraded to this system. I also have digital cable in our bedroom, though I will soon remove it and add an additional receiver.Read more
