5-0 out of 5 stars Great value
I ordered this product new from a third party seller on amazon, and I was more than pleased with the product once it arrived. As is always the case, the LP setting isn't the greatest, though in a pinch one could use it for, say, a personal interview in a quiet room, if one needed more than the 2.5 hours afforded by the SP setting, which sounds fine in most lecture/interview/meeting situations.3-0 out of 5 stars Question on editing voice files on digital recorders
I bought the Olympus VN1800 and used it for about a week, and found my biggest frustration is that you can't edit any voice files that you record. In other words, if you wanted to add on to an existing file, you can't. You have to create a new file to record more information. In addition, you can't edit any portion of the file, for example, if you had a long list of items to do for a given day, you can't edit the file to remove those that you took care of, and don't want on the recorder anymore. Are there any recorders with this capability, and if so, which are they? Thanks much.

I bought this for my husband and he really likes it. The recordings are crystal clear. Great product overall.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dragon NOT speaking
While the Sony voice recorder works fine, I was unable to load The Dragon Natually Speaking Software. After calling both Sony (which refered me to the software maker), and The dragon natually speaking software (refer me to Sony), neither took responisbility for the BAD SOFTWARE.And now I'm stuck with, just a voice recorder and NO DRAGON SOFTWARE.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and easy to use....
The Sony ICD-SX25VTP - ($199.99 at Amazon.com and as low as $165.00 with other online merchants listed through Amazon.com) is light and compact digital voice recorder. After careful research, I decided to settle on this model because it comes with the Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred Voice-To-Print Software pre-packaged for a mere $20 than the Sony ICD-SX25 - $149.99. This software purchased separately is priced at $169 on Amazon.com.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It!!
Panasonic should be embarrased for boasting 105 minutes in LP(long play) mode. The quality of the recording is beyond terrible. In HQ (high quality)the recording is terrific but you only have 15 minutes in total for all 4 folders.I am returning this after owning it for only 20 minutes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not enough recording time
As a singer, I need the highest quality recording. But using the high quality recording mode with this recorder gives you only 15 minutes of recording time!C'mon, I get much more time in the old-fashioned tape recorder and the quality for that is not that bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb even after 1 1/2 years of constant use
I use this little gem for recording lectures. This babe will pick up the sound of a dropped dry-erase erase marker all the way from the back of a crowded lecture hall (where I usually hang out...where else can you nab a quck snack, zzzs, etc?;)). Voice clarity is crystal clear.
4-0 out of 5 stars Really awesome Recorder!!!
This recorder is the perfect ideal for students. It goes without saying that the sound quality of this product is fantastic. Even if I sit at the far back side of the large classroom, I hear clear sounds of the professor.
4-0 out of 5 stars Consistent performance over a year
I've owned the MS515-VTP for over a year now. I tape a high volume of conference calls and the device has performed consistently well, and I hope to get many more years of use from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for keeping a journal
I selected the VN-1800 after looking at many dictating devices on the Internet.I use mine for recording my thoughts and diary entries on the go.It's small enough to fit nicely into my pocket, and the Hold switch never accidentally slides open. It's large enough to rest comfortably and securely on four fingers of one hand, leaving the thumb free to operate the buttons.
4-0 out of 5 stars A quality device
I originally purchased this recorder to take minutes in meetings. In both HQ and SP modes, the quality of recording is very good for this purpose, assuming use of headphones when transcribing. In an outdoor setting, with people seated around a standard size folding table and holding the recorder so that it can be pointed toward the person speaking, the VCVA (voice activation) function was an excellent performer, even with a few people who mumble, and saved having to deal with blocks of silence. In LP mode, the quality of recordings is awful, but still salvageable (laborious task of playing file into computer as a wave file, then performing noise reduction on file) allows use of such files. If the time provided by SP is adequate for your purposes, this is an excellent and cost effective choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars OKfor personal messages, but don't try to dictate

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy and dependable
I've been using this recorder for 6 months now, and I've had no problems with it. I changed batteries only once, and that was at the end of a semester's worth of voice lessons. It fits right in the palm of my hand and the design of the back makes it easy to grip with one hand (either left or right). It slips easily into a shirt or pants pocket. It's also relatively easy to use. Recording quality is good. Recording time at high quality (HQ) is around 20 mins., which fit my needs quite well. I would not have survived my voice lessons without this handy little helper!

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect little number
This is a supa little recording device.Very compact and easy to use.I agree that the LP mode is rather crap, but it does work for emergency long recordings (if you were say kidnapped and held in a small box and needed to record what the criminals were saying). The HQ mode is cool tho, offering 22mins of hi-quality recording time.4-0 out of 5 stars Great size, good price. LP quality not usable
I recommend this voice recorder. The size is excellent. I carry it everywhere in my pocket and use it everyday at least once. Haven't had to change the batteries yet after 3 months of use. It's easy to use, easy to organize your recordings and will keep track of when you recorded them (date and time). It doubles as a pocket clock for those without a wristwatch.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Will never die
Okay read the other reviews for how it works. I have had mine for eight years.I have dropped it, washed it with the clothes, exposed it to heat, cold, had my two year old play with it, lost it for six months under the sofa, and sat on it a few thousand times.IT STILL WORKS.For taking quick notes, it can't be beat. It will not die...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little voice recorder!
This is a great little voice recorder to have!It is handy in situations where it would be impractical or impossible to jot down notes. The voice recorder is quite small and lightweight. It is quite user friendly. The sound quality is excellent. This is the nicest voice recorder I ever had!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfection of "Keeping-It-Simple".
This is the most valuable and useful gadget I own. I'd be lost without it!There are hundreds of voice recorders on the market, but this one is THE BEST, because1)It's so simple - the buttons are tactile so you don't need to look at it - ever. And there's only ONE keypress to start recording, and ONE to stop.2) It's tiny - not much bigger than a business card. It's very thin.3) It's durable. I've put mine through complete hell, and it works like a charm. You can drop it a thousand times. And, despite being so thin, it's still sturdy enought to not "bend" under pressure.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
Hello, I am a programmer, writer and inventor and do a tremendous amount of note taking and "talking to myself".I've used analog voice recorders in the past (which was slow when I wrote my first novel "Mr. President Africa Awaits You, Presidential Revelation") and this product is light years past those stone age days.Being able to record hours of notes and ideas in different folders and files, download them to my laptop and organize them virtually anyway I want (i.e. by subject/folder, date, etc.) at the click of a few buttons, play back, delete, copy to cd, etc. is awesome. And then the bonus (although I haven't used it yet) is in knowing that I can purchase third party software (around $300.00) that allows me to transfer my voice notes to text should prove even more productive and efficient in it's own right.Trust me when I say I highly recommend this or some other similar voice recording device to those people who do a lot of talking and writing.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sell your stock in Sony now before it's too late. . . .
I bought this little recorder based on my past experiences with their products which was fairly good.
4-0 out of 5 stars Relatively good compared to others such as Pansonic and Olympus.
I have this recorder and use it quite often for lecture. I've tried others such as Panasonic and Olympus and they both didn't pick up the sound in lecture as clear as the Sony. One down part to this Sony is that the built-in speaker isn't that loud or great, but if you hook it up to a set of headphones, then it suddenly makes a great difference in the clarity of the sound. Also, the software that comes with it is easy to use and loads the voice files into the computer the fastest among the three... about 3~4 seconds for a 50 minute lecture on SP...literally. The price is a bit high and I was hesitant to spend that much in the beginning, but then I realize what I got in terms of voice quality and feature that it justify the $80. Overall, I'm very happy with it and highly recommend to all. ... Read more

The advantages of digital voice recorders are numerous: superior sound, long recording times, and the convenience of built-in Flash memory (much handier than hauling around several microcassettes). 5-0 out of 5 stars Great recorder
Bought this recorder over a year ago and use it for an average of 15 hours per week to record school lectures. I love the fact that I can down load it to my computer nightly and have it ready to record again the next day. I can put each of myclasses into a separate folder and each lecture is stamped with the date and time. The only problem I have had is in a classroom where the air conditioner has been on and I have been closer to it then the instructor - this makes the recording very unclear. I would suggest to sit as close to the speaker as possible or at least not sitting where there is a lot of background noise.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100% Perfect!
I don't have to purchase another digital audio recorder in order to compare and find the "better" brand. There is nothing better than this one! If you are in a professional business, needing to store all your data and dictations, this is the one for you! Get rid of wasted space easy with the "divide" method. Don't worry about your voice sounding garbled. This recorder, with all Panasonic digital recorders I'm sure, has such clarity that you will think you are hearing it "live"! 5-0 out of 5 stars Shame it's discontinued

First, if you're perusing these reviews because you're switching from a micro cassette recorder, you're in for a treat. While you can't take the tape out and hand it to someone, the advantages of digital are too numerous to mention here.My favorite is the ability to playback or erase individual notes without having to search the tape to find them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wanted to add more stars ;-p
I just wanted to add more stars for my use of this recorder. I intended to use it only for my lectures at first but I couldn't use Dragon software for the professors' voices. How can they give me sample voices to train that software??? I bought "bundle" to get that software. I usually have 3 classes per day so I could use only LP mode and found out that using external mic is much better than the built-in mic from recorder. 4-0 out of 5 stars My voice ==> typed text!!
I bought this unit refurbished for about $75. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. I can now dictate into the unit, then hook it up via usb to my computer and have Dragon Naturally Speaking Version7 Professional turn my voice into typed text.4-0 out of 5 stars Works for capturing lectures
I bought the ICD-ST10 strictly for recording university lectures. So far it has worked out great. The sound quality is very good and I can always upload the recordings onto the computer and transcribe them while listening to the lecture again (and again) through computer speakers. I wouldn't recommend doing it directly from the recorder. Speakers provide a lot better sound quality. Ability to slow down the playback definitely helps (if you can deal with the hypnotic effect of a geology lecture being played back at half speed. You are getting sleepy... Very sleepy...)Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Background noise
I don't have any experience with any other digital voice recorders but this one seems to have a lot of background noise in the recordings that are internal. In a quiet environment, there is a swishing, wash machine noise in all recording.Same recordings made with my trusty but bulky Sony Microcassette-Corder, M-527V are quiet by comparison. The noise is slightly less in the HQ mode and also when using the external mike, but it is still extremely noticeable.5-0 out of 5 stars Organize yourself
Organize yourself with this Digital recorder. No more stopping to take notes. Has 4 folders. Example. Use folder #3 for phone numbers, accessing is very quick. Use folder #1 for to do list. #2 for project, #4 personal. This main function of this unit is voice recording and organizing your schedule. Sound Quality is great.Your more on top of things due to ease of use and speed. Date and time stamped for reference. Real time clock. No memory loss during battery change. Runs on power or battery. External mic.ear phone. LED indicator during recording. Auto Scan message mode. If you want to be on top of things, discard the electronic organizer ( input to slow) Best bang for your dollar.

I've had the last two versions of this voice recorder (lost the first one) and have watched the features evolve...as well as my use of them. This is by far the best value for the money. At this point the higher end Sony VRs haven't created the incremental value to make it worth it. The cheaper VRs (Sony's and others) leave out features that you will probably regret if you're using this for any lecture records, interviews, notetaking, interviews, etc. Here's my take:4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but good for lectures and seminars!

This digital voice recorder features up to 8 hours of recording time. There's also a digital VAS function, three jacks (mic, headphone, earphone) and a high-sensitivity Electret condenser microphone, among other features. The RR-US360 can even hook up to your PC via its USB terminal, enabling you to transfer, archive, edit and organize files--perfect for students and journalists. This model also comes with a CD-ROM loaded with voice editing software. The RR-US360 records longer than previous models in SP (Standard Play) modeup to 8 hours. 3-0 out of 5 stars not bad, but not very durable
Mine is dead after just a few months.I left it in a business attache bag which I carry around, and simply forgot about it for about 2 months. When I did remember about it and tried to turn it on, it wouldn't even turn on. Already tried to change the battery but to no avail.4-0 out of 5 stars Good little recorder for the money...
I purchased the Panasonic RR-QR120 on the spur of the moment at Office Max on sale for ($$$).I had done some earlier research on digital recorders, and was actually thinking of going with the Sony DW-90.Depending on your needs, that may be a better choice if you need to record, say, a classroom lecture and then download it.For short recordings, however, this fills the bill.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Negative reviewers are dreaming
This little tool was an absolute Godsend when I was going to Respiratory Therapist school. As someone pointed out, if you want music features, get a Rio or Ipod. When the settings are correct (there are 3), recorded lectures are loud and clear. I sprung for a 512K card.22 hours recording on the highest quality setting. Most of my recordings were done in an auditorium. When I listen to the recordings, its exactly the way I heard them (echoes and all but crystal clear). This unit does NOT eat batteries. It's very efficient.I used it for two 2-3 hour lectures everyday (M-F), and at the end of Friday I would change batteries. BTW it doesn't use battery power when connected to your computer.I even went so far as to burn CDs of the lectures which I would provide to classmates for $1.00 (my time and disc cost). My classmates were using the microcassettes. First of all, they were all amazed that I could make CD's of my recordings and second, that the quality was that much better than theirs. This little baby got me through RT school.I couldn't have done it without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars DM-1 is great; ignore the bad reviews
I use this DM-1 every day to record meetings at a conference table. It picks up great, is reliable, easy to use.And with no mic.Do not use the mic!It is better without the mic.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great device. Should be less expensive.
Long battery life, good storage, easy to use, usb connectivity works great on Apple Macintosh computers, only down side is you have to download playback software at Olympus website. this should be shipped on CD. there is no excuse for that omission as this software is over a year old when i bought recorder. there also seems to be no way to easily convert their audio format into the more common mp3 format. The price is a bit much too. Other than that, i highly recoomend this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional!
I've had mine for over a year and I absolutely love it! It's easy to use and the play back is crisp and clear. Very well made and thought out ... the unit sits neatly in the palm of your hand allowing finger tip control. A great value and high quality product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Died after about 9 months daily use
A great item but it quit playing back after about 9 months of use.You could get bits of the messages by holding the mode button down momentarily. The gold paint wears off carrying it in your pocket.

3-0 out of 5 stars I really like it but it keeps breaking!
I like for form and features of this voice recorder but I have now had 2 of them break! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Windows-Only, Faulty Software
I bought this gadget to record school talks. I'd bet Pogo
4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product and unsophisticated interface
Functioning as it was intended, as a recorder and player, this product is OUTSTANDING. When recording, one has to remember that the sound level that one is putting in is the one that one gets out: so when using a microphone in the "line-in" -- one has to make certain that one is using a mic (which PoGo sells -- an excellent one at that) which has an adjustable sound sensitivity function. I used RipFlash Plus, with the mic, to record speeches and the sound quality and clarity is really astounding.
1-0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
I received this product as a Christmas gift. Less than 6 months later, the case began to crumble. The device was never dropped or abused in any way - quite frankly it was only used 2 or 3 times to record attached via line in to a sound board. I had been really impressed with the product until having to deal with Pogo Tech support regarding replacing the item. I was basically told I was a liar and the damage would only occur if the device was abused. I was talked down to, demeaned and they refused to budge on a $15 repair charge. I do not recommend purchasing a product from Pogo unless you consider it a disposable product, not an investment. ... Read more
