2-0 out of 5 stars Crash Test Dummy
In Dec 04 received one as a present. In June 05 it started shutting off on its own and then stopped turning on all together. Lost a weeks worth of sailing and diving in the Bahamas. Returned it to the store, bought a new one. It was handy and familiar thought I would give it another try. Since then it has dumped my saved Points of Interest THREE times. Now the other day it crashed and defaulted to to a screen called "Burn In Test". Fortunately it did this after I copied off my latest Points of Interest. Now I have a Garmin eTrek Legend.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good
this is my first GPS, its working very well for me, u can trace the way your walking then inverse it to find your way back, you can convert the trace into routes, it has the usa map, but the map wont work in mexico, it will only give you the main roads of the country. good stuff

5-0 out of 5 stars good for what it is
I see a lot of reviews saying, "Good entry level GPS!" I do not agree with this statement at all. With a GPS you should always START with the best one you can afford that does what you need. That way you are not buying one to practice on just to realize you need another one. Then you are out of $100 for your "entry level" and $400 for the fancy pants Garmin. I own two GPS systems which are exactly what I need for the applications I use them for. If you need to do these things and nothing else. Buy this one and don't worry that you cannot monitor barometric pressure (I am a meteorologist and I don't need a barometer or a thermometer). Here is what this one will do wonderfully for you. If you are anywhere and you get lost. This one will easily get you to a city, lake, river, interstate, highway, or major road.My main reason for this is to save locations for future use such as: good fishing spots, tree stands for hunting, important businesses, etc. What makes this GPS so practical is it's simplicity. You cannot load a bunch of useless stuff on here that will just slow it down. Who really needs topo? What is great about hiking is NOT knowing what is over the next hill. Another great thing about this unit is it is light weight. I backpack with a lot of folks, some of which are scared of anything that weighs over half a pound. These same folks haul a huge, heavy GPS handheld in their backpack and never use it the whole trip! Another cool thing you can use this GPS for is bicycle and motorcycle application. It is easily mountable on a bike. The screen is large enough to be easily read on the go and the backlight works well at night. It won't hurt this thing if you crash either. It is built like a tank. If it starts to rain, you do not have to worry because it is almost totally waterproof. In everyday application, I keep this thing in my cargo pocket. If I find a neat store or a great view along a mountain road I can quickly save the spot, give it a name, and cool little icon from the list. For everyday use I would recommend this to anyone other than a civil engineer on a job site. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid No-Frills Compass (at Good Price)
Compass worked wonderfully for my trip around New England this summer. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is for want of a backlight for night driving. Remember to moisten the suction cups before adhering to the window. I forgot the first time and it popped off 10 minutes later. Never came off again the whole trip after I moistened them.Worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Compass
Works great...I have it attached to my motorcycle and love it.Very simple to set up and start using, acurate and with the auto shut off, very practical.

4-0 out of 5 stars PNI V100 Value that exceeds price
I recently purchased a PNI V100 Digital Compass for my father for Father's Day. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good, basic compass
This is a perfect companion for basic hikes. Not fancy, easy to slip into your pocket, easy to read...it performs the job of a basic compass very well. For the price, this is an excellent buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great compass for the price
Of course this compass isn't made for exacting surveying work or the such. For that, get a super-nice expensive one. But for the average hiker, camper, or young person wanting to basically know which way is which, this is a great compass to buy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, basic compass
The Brunton Classic is a straightforward, easy-to-use, low-cost compass that works well in the outdoors. It is a bit clunky-looking and a little bulky in your pocket, but you will appreciate that fact in cold weather when you are wearing gloves. It comes with a TRUE declination adjustment that moves the north reference indicator to the desired declination. This is much better than some of the least expensive compasses that claim to have a declination adjustment but really don't.(They require you to manually offset the needle from the north reference indicator to achieve it, something you don't want to have to struggle with when you are exhausted after hiking for 10 hours.)The Brunton doesn't need a tool to adjust declination, which they claim as an advantage. In contrast, Suunto compasses use a tiny screwdriver attached to the lanyard to make the adjustment.Personally, I like the screwdriver adjustment as being more accurate and less likely to be accidentally moved, but they both work equally well. The bearing markings silkscreened onto the Brunton's dial are not as fine-ruled as the Suunto so you can't get quite as precise a readout, but the difference is insignificant in most cases.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great device!
I bought the V2000 last year and it has worked great since then. The compass has always given me accurate directions and has lasted through one winter and one summer so far.I always left my V2000 in the vehicle, although the manual did state that you should take the device with you when the temperature is hot.The V2000 has visible at all situations.I can see it clearly in the dark with the V2000's automatic backlight, and see it clearly on a sunny day.Finding a good place to put the temperature probe, however, is a hassle if you want to get accurate results.Calibration was also a hassle for me.You have to be on leveled ground and make a fairly even circle in order to get accurate readings.

4-0 out of 5 stars so far, so good
Got the item on time.Cost was good.So far it works well.No complaints and would buy from this company again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Always Getting Lost
I am continually getting lost when I'm in unfamiliar territory.Even when I'm SURE I'm going in the right direction, there's always a nagging thought that I'm not. This compass isn't close to telling you where you're going, it's dead-on.My car has an outside temperature gauge and an inside thermostat, so I don't care about the temperature features.Beside, there's no fear if you don't know the temp; there is a fear when you don't know where you're going.Classy looking gadget. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Better available
This compass handles very poorly compared to other manufacturers. The pin for the lid is cheap and the hing will likely break. The card (actual compass part that spins) wobbles a lot so it's difficult to get an exact bearing. It is like the oil in the compass is very thin. Also, the direction line lid spins easily, making it possible to take a bad reading.Ironically, this is the Silva weakness as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars decent enough for a compass
I must admit I like it.The compass is very precise and the brass case feels nicer to hold than a plastic case.Outside of that, the compass does and feels like it should.I would, however, recommend a cheaper plastic cased compass for those who don't use a compass that often.Enough said.

3-0 out of 5 stars a bit bulky and old school but
sturdy and well built...I can't fault it but I would not buy another. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars safer driving
The PNI Wayfinder helps me drive safely by showing me the direction I am traveling on the compass-so I make fewer direction errors. The temperature gauge is helpful when the weather turns cold by alerting me to the possibility of ice conditions-helpful in the Pacific Northwest winters.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review of V7000 Wayfinder
After reading the reviews, I decided to take the chance and purchase the above unit for my car. Unfortunately, after calibration and adjustment for local declination, the compass was off 45-60 degrees when compared to known reference points. Recalibration did not change the accuracy. Since then, I purchased a traditional spirit compass which after installing and compensating in the same vehicle performs accurately.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really like my new Wayfinder V7000
Initially I was skeptical about purchasing the device solely due to the reviews of other purchasers.About half were of a negative tone. But, I realized nearly all the negative reviews were of a nature dealing with the technical workings (i.e. calibration, etc.) of the compass and were probably from those who can't program their VCR's.I made the purchase and found the installation to be straightforward; you can make it as easy or difficult as you want.Calibration is simple and quick.I found the compass, thermometer and baraometer/altimeter to be very accurate or as accurate as one could expect. The backlight is sufficient and the light sensor that turns the backlight on automatically in the dark is a very nice feature.Living here in central Virginia our summers are hot and humid so I observe the manufactures suggestion to remove the compass from the vehicle when not in use. It's easy to remember since my cellphone is parked near the compass. One negative point.Calibration is necessary if the device is disconnected/removed from the mounting point.Since I remove it religously each day I am calibrating at least once a day.As a result, the graphic text is starting wear and fade away from the function buttons. All in all, I am very pleased with my Wayfinder V7000. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Watch!!
I gave this watch to my fiance & he has really enjoyed tracking our altitude gain on bike rides.I've appreciated knowing the temperature. Can't wait for ski season!

3-0 out of 5 stars Get the old style ...
I've had a VECTOR for more than 5 years, GREAT TOOL, but it finally slipped away to lost-watch land. I bought a new one and was very sad to send it back. You see, I could see the old black letters on a white face just fine, even in bright sunshine. The new improved model has faint green letters on a black background -- much harder to see while hiking or sailing, especially when wearing polarized sunglasses. The graphics on the new model are also much harder to discern --for example, the indicator for degrees F or degrees C is tiny (granted that is probably an issue only during set-up). The good folk at Suunto have still not addressed the problem of accidentally uncalibrating the barometric sensor -- that's a problem if you hit the buttons while running -- and the manual still doesn't help you get out of the mess in the field. It was a great product for backcountry activity, now it's mostly for show.Look for the old version and buy a new battery ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Suunto Vector
This is the second Suunto Vector watch i have owned. Only because the first one was lost. The only two draw backs of this watch is battery life and my band broke twice in two years. Seems to me they could offer a much longer life battery and a band that would hold up alot better. the battery lasts about 6 months only. For the price of this watch ($230) you think tehy could do alittle better.

Bought mine sometime around Christmas and took it into the water for the first time on a trip to St Thomas last week.It died within 10 minutes of being in the water. It was never more than 5' down while I was snorkeling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not easy to use, can't recommend....
Overall, not terribly happy with this units user interface and design. The spartan instructions require pressing buttons referred to in the manual as "SW1" SW2" etc, but they are not labeled as such on the device. You toggle through modes that are abreviated on the display with just 2 letters to tell you what they are ("TR" "CH" what??) The Brunton Nexus Star is a low-cost, fairly rugged, basic compass.Like any low-cost compass, if you know how to use it you can get where you want to go, but it lacks features you may later wish you had.On the plus side, it is lightweight, inexpensive, and fairly thin, so it doesn't take up a lot of room in your pocket. On the minus side, the baseplate is very short, so it is harder to use with a map and a little less accurate when reading a bearing. The biggest disadvantage, in my opinion, is that it doesn't have a true declination adjustment; it is advertised as having a "declination scale" which is not the same.On a baseplate compass, you take a bearing by lining up the compass needle inside the North Reference Indicator (sometimes called the "Doghouse") etched on the bottom of the vial.Compasses with true declination adjustment allow you to rotate this "Doghouse" to align it with the desired declination. That way you always read a bearing by aligning the needle inside the Doghouse. On the Nexus Star, however, you can't do this.Instead, you have to remember to line up the compass needle with the point on the scale that corresponds to the local declination. In this case, the needle is not boxed inside the doghouse, and I find it can lead to errors, especially when you are tired and not thinking clearly after a long hike.If you always navigate using magnetic bearings rather than true bearings, this isn't a problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars The good, the bad and the bubbly
I love compasses. I don't go anywhere without one. In my car, in my backpack, on a plane, If I'm going out...a compasses is going with me.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Money
I was dissapointed. Quality was poor overall. The cover was supposed to lock in various positions, but just flopped around helplessly. The indicator would only float freely when the base was held off-level. Lanyard interferes with cover action. I went out and bought a $15 cheapo that works better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensitive to mounting
I bought my wife a Brunton Rally for her Jeep Wrangler.Originally, I mounted it in the center of the dashboard and she mentioned that it indicated NW intermittently - even times she knew she was driving straight South. When the compass was moved away from that location, it read accurately.Apparently, a magnet in the stereo was throwing it off.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brunton Nexus Rally Compass Great for a Car
Before buying a product I know nothing of, I do lots of research on the Internet.I first tried a Ritchie compass for my car (made in the USA), but its accuracy was questionable.I then focused on a Silva 58, made in Sweden, but the cost was high.Further research showed that Amazon sells a Brunton Nexus -- which is made by Silva and is exactly the same model as the Model 58, for an incredible price. The shipping was free, it came in three days, and it looks and works great. It has comnpensators that you can adjust, but I didn't need to.Attaches to the center of my dash, very easy to read and always accurate.Overall, a great product at a great price.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit surprised!
I bought the X-Lander because I am a pilot and wanted a bit more information when I needed it. The watch is well designed and of good quality. A few things did disappoint me, but I think they are outweighed by the features, however.
2-0 out of 5 stars Way too big
I bought this watch because I wanted an altimeter but needed to return it because of its size. It is HUGE - looked like I had a clock on my wrist. Take into consideration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Watch
This watch screams high-tech, and anyone venturing off to a comic book convention is bound to get a few nods from people dressed in Sith Lord garb and even a wicked witch or two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Regatta Watch
I have been looking for quite some time at different sailing watches. As a bowman, I compete quite heavily in sailing regatta's and have tried several different watches.I have now had this watch for a few months and I must admit it is the best watch I have ever used.It is very user friendly and has an excellent countdown timer.Having the temperature and pressure is nice, but okay... they are extras. It is a nice looking watch, good display, and very easy to use.I would highly recommend this watch for anyone who truly competes in sailing regatta's.

3-0 out of 5 stars Spiffy but bizarre
I want to like this watch a lot, but I am having to admit that my inexpensive Timex Ironman (now at the bottom of Lake Michigan ticking away) did the basics better. The baro and compass features are cool, although I don't use them that much.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very Unhappy with Watch
I have been sailing for some time now and received the watch as a long awaited sailing gift.Read more
