5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product!!
This Product really works! I ordered it after going through the reviews and I am very much satisfied with the switch. The switching is smooth and fast.I've a Dell latitude D620 laptop and a Dell optiplex GX620 and I had no problems usign the switch. I had a little confusion regarding setup and I called up the IOGEAR and let me tell that the tech support was excellent. Overall, It does what it says!

3-0 out of 5 stars good compact usb solution, problems with docking station
i was using this at my previous job with a dell inspiron laptop & dell precision workstation. the display part worked but the keyboard & mouse part did not work from the laptop side. apparently this is because it was connected to the laptop through the dell docking station, & the power supply from the docking station usb port was not sufficient. some of my colleagues had newer laptops with side-usb & they were able to use it when plugged in directly to the laptop (mine had only rear-usb, so i can't plug in anything when its in the dock).

4-0 out of 5 stars Works, but with a glitch occassionally
I have used this for about a month. It worked right after everything is plugged in.One problem arose after one week of usage. The monitor would remain dark for 2-5 min after switching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised
Very frustrating to install and try to get operational.I had good luck sometimes, then complete failure other times.I am returning. After installation it worked well, then I powered down the laptop.I could not get it to switch back to the desktop without powering the laptop up again.Just not ready for prime time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great with wy Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
It works perfectly with my Logitech DiNovo wireless keyboard and mouse combo (single USB adapter). No problems whatsoever. I am running XP Pro on both a docked laptop and a PC (I do NOT run mac or Linux). The delay when I "flip" is only a few seconds. "Flipping" does cause my PC/Laptop to make the "new device found" tones (I am sure I can disable that notification). No resolution issues and I run at 1600x1200.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not recognized by MacBook Pro
I couldn't get my MacBook Pro laptop to work with this KVM despite various attempts involving reboots in all sorts of combinations. The most I can get is an "Unrecognized keyboard" screen. The video line is similarly disappointing -- when I plug the KVM to the video jack on my laptop (using the DVI-to-VGA adapter that comes with the Mac), it triggers the display search sequence on Mac OS X but only the built-in display is found.

4-0 out of 5 stars A simple reliable device for home usage
The IT department in my company tried to used such a switch to connect two machines of mine: one is a Win XP Server, one is a docking station for an IBM ThinkPad running Win XP Pro. It just did not work: either mouse got no response, or keyboard, or both. So the IT guy threw it away and tried another one, same brand/model, still did not work.
5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful product
easy installaiton, fast response, keyboard switch. My setting: Logitech MX-1000 wireless mouse, compaq wired keyboard. recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars does the trick
I read a lot of product reviews before buying this unit and so far, its been an ace in the whole. Does what its supposed to and seemingly, no apparent problems. If you're wondering if a PS/2 to USB adaptor can be connected to it, it can. I'm using it with my somewhat ancient Windows desktop (PS/2 mouse and keyboard plugs) and my MAC Powerbook G4 with a USB adaptor. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Almost junk
I give it 2 stars because, when it works it works great.I have had 2 and both have the same problems. On the first one, the keyboard on one side died and would restart after totally disconnecting the cables.Within a few days, it would do it again. The second one does the same but waits weeks before dropping the keyboard.I tried returning them but got nowhere.
4-0 out of 5 stars Correcting my earlier review
I had 4 stars for this product and had described the Pros and Cons in my earlier review (dont know if the review was accepted by Amazon or not). The very next day my KVM switch died. IOGear informed me that I will have to send the product back to them for a replacement since something is defective. Video worked, keyboard and mouse went dead. So did the LED on the switch. I would have to pay for shipping out the product to IOGear. Amazon, over the phone, told me that if the product is defective, I could return it within 30 days of purchase for a refund [and amazon lets us print a return form - no postage needed], and thats what I did. I dropped the rating to 3 because if this product works, it is very handy. I had a pleasant experience till it worked.

3-0 out of 5 stars works great with mouse/keyboard/video but subpar with audio
I connect this kvm with a mac and a pc, I was able to hook even a microsoft wireless mouse to kvm , it works like a charm. However the audio portion did not work very well. First , there is a lot of static compare to connect directly to the machine. Second, when I switched to mac, I still can hear the pc audio in the background. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars First kvm
Using this kvm to switch between a WindowsXP box and a Linux x86(FC-5) box. Installation was smooth ... just connected the cables to both the machines and the keyboard/mouse(wired). Powered them on one by one, with the selector switched to the machine that was booting up. XP seemed to take a little while to recognize the keyboard and mouse, but Linux recognized both immediately. Seeing the same behaviour when switching between the computers ... XP will take 2-3 seconds to recognize the keyboard and mouse, but Linux works immediately. It is not much of a hassle. One negative is that the video brightness seems to be reduced a little. However, there is no noticeable flickeror distortion on my monitor.
5-0 out of 5 stars Works with Wireless Keyboard & Mouse combo
This USB KVM switch works as it should! It switches 3 USB devices to a single USB port on each connected computer. I use a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and mouse combo and it works great! Even the special multimedia keys work. This switch switches USB without touching it as is the case with many KVM switches. The "negative" is that you have no on screen information about switching (who cares anyway). The video is also switched without touching it. There is no difference in resolution or screen quality.
4-0 out of 5 stars Actually works
It actually works. My only complaint is that when I use it with my laptop, turn off the laptop's built-in video, switch to the other computer on the KVM, then try to wake the laptop... sometimes it doesn't work. But that is easily solved by leaving the laptop's display on.

2-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
For basic switching between computers, this works OK with some annoyances. Why are there two loud beeps every time I switch between computers? Why do I need a loud and irritating confirmation that I switched computers? I can see it right there on my screen.
3-0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing...
I ordered this based on price when there was a $10 rebate offerred Jan 2006.It was easy to setup and plug in--but there were a few things I didn't think through before ordering.

1-0 out of 5 stars Already looking for another one
I bought this piece about a year ago and I am now searching for a new one. If computer A is on and i switch to B, all is fine, switching back to A is where the trouble lies. B is always a good connection however. I have swapped PC's to make sure it's not a pc problem. The trouble stays with the connection, not the PC.

2-0 out of 5 stars Limited functionality, skimpy instructions:
I hoped to use the DKVM as just a monitor switch because only one PC has ps/2 keyboard and mouse (our newer PC uses USB inputs). My assumption was that if I kept the (USB input KB & M) devices connected directly to the new PC, Windows would detect that all devices were connected, and all would be happy. The instructions do not mention anything about such a connection scheme --they only assume you have just one KB and Mouse (ps/2 type) and run them into the DKVM to switch between both PCs.There are not even any FAQs to address other possible cases.
5-0 out of 5 stars This nifty device is sure handy!!!
I was very happy with the quick delivery of this unit. I was tired of unplugging and replugging the keyboard and mouse and monitor between two computers. Ain't electronics just amazing!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great...but understand the limitations.
This KVM switch works very well.It is exactly what I was looking for.I can now use one USB keyboard and one USB mouse to control my main PC, my work laptop, and my Mac Mini. The independent USB hub switching and independent audio switching is great (although the documentation provided with the switch is not great, so it does take some experimenting to figure out exactly how to do the independent switching).Basically, to do the independent switching, you have to "unbind" the hub switching and the audio switching from the PC switching. It's not rocket science, but the documentation doesn't do a great job of explaining it.Once you get the hang of it, it's fine.If you don't need to do independent switching (i.e., the KVM, audio, and USB hub will ALL always just be tied to ONE computer at a time), it'll be even easier for you and the documentation provided with the switch is fine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Switch
I've had several KVM switches over the years, and this is so far the best.As noted in another review, the keystroke capture is very good, and 1920x1200 displays well.My Logitech trackball also works only as a regular mouse, without scroll features, etc.I haven't tried plugging it into the USB hub on the switch, but will soon and report back.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one works.
The connectpro USB KVM Switch costs a few dollars more but it really works the first time with no hassles.I've been forced to use cheaper KVM switches at work and Windows XP never seems to play nice with them.I use this one at home with two Linux machines and a desktop and laptop running Windows XP.The switch worked the first time I connected everything together and has worked glitch free ever since.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wireless kb/mouse works perfectly even on servers
Took it out of the box, plugged in the computers, plugged in a flat panel monitor and a Microsoft usb transmitter for a wireless kb and mouse, plugged in the power and booted up the first system with Windows XP & SP2.It took a minute or so during the boot but the mouse and kb did work just fine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
I have a custom built dual-monitor PC with a Wireless MS kb & optical mouse (1 usb port).I also have an IBM Thinkpad 42p that I use for work.I wanted one monitor to be able to switch to the laptop w/ kb & monitor control (while docked).

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked very well for me
I'm not really a network guru, but I just plugged it into my local network and it worked great. Now I have all my mac's running at gigabit speeds to do distributed builds.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total garbage !!!
For years I used, trusted and loved D-Link products. These days I find D-Link is basically shoving the cheapest junk hardware components into shiny new plastic covers, relabelling them and releasing it as a 'new' line of product.
2-0 out of 5 stars Will not buy DLink again
Everything started off rosey with this switch until a port died 2 months after I got it. I RMA'd it and the replacement switch took so long to get here I bought a Negear GS-605 to hold me over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great but not with wireless KB and mouse
No problems with corded KB and mouse attached.Tried using wireless and it initially works but then freezes requiring the whole thing to be reset.I like that the unit comes with cables.Switching between computers is as simple as tapping the Ctrl key twice. It's great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plug and play to its best
There's nothing more pleasant that buying some component, plugging it and enjoying it. That's exactly what happened when I used this KVM. Setup is straight-forward and it just works. It comes with colored cables, making connections a snap (the previous KVM I had had beige, unmarked cables, a pain to find out which goes in the keyboard and mouse). Even better, it doesn't need a power supply! Thanks for making such a great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding KVM!
I've worked with numerous KVMs for almost 10 years. From Windows NT 4.0 to Red Hat Linux to Windows XP and Small Business Server, this KVM hands-down outperforms every model I've ever used. Even without a dedicated power supply, this Iogear model experiences absolutely no trouble managing four systems simultaneously.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, solid KVM switch
The D-Link DKVM-4K is a solid PS/2 KVM switch that supports monitor/keyboard/mouse sharing between up to 4 PCs.It is ideal for home users with multiple computers, or for use on a troubleshooting bench.Switching between PCs is accomplished either by pressing the button on the device, or by pressing a series of keys (scroll lock + scroll lock + computer number).Switching works well, and I have noticed no degradation of video. The only minor complaint that I have with the unit is that it comes with only two sets of cables, which is not mentioned in the Amazon description, so if you need to use it with 4 pcs (as it was designed to be used) be sure to buy two extra KVM cables.

2-0 out of 5 stars fine with mouse and keyboard, sucks at images
Purchased one from Amazon/Tigerdirect. It comes with 2 sets of cables. Installation was easy and intuitive and it worked like charm for both keyword and mouse (I used both USB keyboard and mouse and had USB-to-PS/2 adaptor for both). However, it gave me highly blurry image output (LCD 1600x1200) compared to direct linking from the computer. I tried to downsize the display resolution but the blurriness was still visible. Decided to return it!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These guys don't know what they're talking about...
This cable is MALE to MALE as said in the description.KVM cables and monitor cables should be using the same ends, MALE.As kvm cables are made to go specifically into your computer and into the switch, which usually have FEMALE ends.
5-0 out of 5 stars It Is A KVM Cable, Not A Monitor Cable
KVM Cables have 2 female ends because one end connects to the output of your video card and one end connects to the input of the KVM Switch, (both male). It is the proper setup for KVM switches, and most likely is what you're looking for if you have a KVM Switch.

1-0 out of 5 stars Probably not the right cable for you
This cable has TWO FEMALE ENDS.This is very unlikely to be what you need, unless some special circumstance applies to you.Normal monitors have a femal attachment.Normal computers have a male attachment.Normal monitor cables have a male side and a female side.KVM switches mimic this, having a female attachment as a monitor would.Unless you have some unusual setup, find a different cable. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
Product was missing AC adapter...couldn't even plug it in. After hassling with it and trying to rummage around to find an AC adapter to work with it, I gave up and packaged it up and returned it. Instructions and documentation are horrible. Would not recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works better than I hoped.
Despite some hurdles I had getting this KVM working I'm overall pleased. It works good and I haven't noticed any mouse or keyboard lag while using a USB keyboard/mouse. A nice side effect of this KVM is it combines the keyboard/mouse into a single USB interface. This means that I now have one USB cable connected to my computers for a keybord/mouse instead of 2. This saves me an extra USB port. For those that have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse this KVM will emulate USB (convert); therefore you can use a PC keyboard/mouse with a Mac. My only real grip with this device is inability to switch between computers using Hotkeys while using a USB keyboard. This isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me because I wanted a button on the KVM for switching, but it would be nice if it supported both.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for servers but poor for multimedia & gaming rigs.
I've had this unit for several months in my home office to control 8 servers/PC's. Overall, it works great and is easy to install and setup. It functions just fine for office or server environments. The unit itself is very heavy weight and seems built quite rugged. I'd have no reservations purchasing these units for my company to control servers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product and Cables included
Easy to set up. Just plug your ps2 beyboard and mouse as well as your VGA monitor into the white area in the back of the IOGEAR device, then connect the included cables to your other devices and to the ports in the back of the IOGEAR device and you are ready to go.

2-0 out of 5 stars Audio quality very poor
Buyer beware:2-0 out of 5 stars Pricey, defective, slow technical support
Iogear tech Support delayed responding to a known defective audio chip in the unit with two weeks of emails and then insisted that I FAX my serial number to get permission to pay for returning it to them. Instead, I returned it for the $20 cheaper Cables to Go 2PT Authority2-Micro KVM with Audio that has worked flawlessly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works fine . . . no problems
I have two of these switches, I'm running four PCs from two monitors and two keyboard/mouse combinations.I haven't had any ghosting problems at all (using NEC and KDS monitors), although I had another model (TK-206I) from Trendnet (USB rather than PS/2 connections) that I used with a iMac (since retired) and PC that did have some very minor ghosting problems.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is cheap and works fine. No complains at all.
I bought this KVM switch and it is working fine for me. Video, mouse, and keyboard are functionning perfectly. I almost spent money on the one sold by Best Buy or Office Max. Their (Best Buy and Office Max) product is certainly good quality but a bit expensive. For now I am getting done what I need with this cheap one from TigerDirect outlet.
