4-0 out of 5 stars Just remember, this is not an MP3 player
I've been using MDs for almost 8 years now, and I can honestly say that, though they might not be for everyone, they're still better then either CDs or cassettes, portability-wise.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!
The greatest player I have ever purchased.I own two models. The MZ-n505 & the MZ-nf610 (type s) The MZ-n505 I use at work while I am on the job.I have had it for 2 years and it is still going. I have dropped it and god knows what else. I love having the option to put all of my music on a mini disk. Unlike the mp3 players where you have a limit or have to pay a fortune to expand it. And not counting these Ipods that are so small and delicate. The other model (MZ-nf610) that I have I use at home and comes with the fm tuner, I don't use it.I am not a big fan of FM radio anyways. Both models are great players. Also the option of having one rechargable double AA battery is the best. You can recharge the double AA while it is still in the player! I can listen to my NetMd 8hrs without having to recharge. Another way to save you money. Now on the sound quality if your record your music on the standard option it will sound great, but if you try to save space on downgrade your quality you can fit about 60 or more songs (give or take) on one mini disk.Overall this is my favorite portable audio player, and would buy from Sony again and definately a NetMD player!

I have had this MD player for about 3 years now, and love it. At first, I thought it wouldn't be as good as an MP3 player but how wrong I was. I purchased an MP player for my 13 year old a year ago and it died in less than a year. First the casing wore out and evenutally the player was unusable. Meanwhile, this MD player kept on going. Both of my kids have used it and I have dropped it at least 50 times, usually it just keeps playing. I have had no issues with it. And, I haven't experienced the battery issues or software issues that people complain of. But I like to mix my MDs and then rarely change the music on each one, so there's not a lot of uploading once I get it onto my mini discs, it's basically there for good. ... Read more

Sony has created a great, compact digital music player with the MZ-RH910 Hi-MD Walkman Digital Music Player. 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
The SonicStage is really a disaster. I have been using MZ-RH910 for a year, and I use it for recording music lessons. When I upload my files to computer to back them up, I alway have some recordings (about 15%)unreadable by SonicStage, even though I can listen to them with the MiniDV. What can I do with those recordings? I can only leave them in the MD walkman. If my MZ-RH910 is broken, I have to buy another one in order to listen to those recordings. Obviously I will never buy Sony's recorder again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent utility, capacity, storage, recording, playback
I purchased this unit after reading the reviews.I was looking for a recorder to replace my micro-cassette (yes, ancient) for band practices, and found that a) recorders had changed and b) had migrated to the iPod type of harddrive or solid state.I couldn't find a simple cassette recorder of reasonable size, and ended up comparing the options available, leading me to this.EO's reviews helped significantly, and I purchased this unit along with RCA to stereo miniplug cable, stereo mp to mp cable, and an optical cable.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT MDLP RECORDING? This item is in the stone age...
Do not buy a minidisc player that only records/plays for 80 minutes. MDLP units (this is not one of them) give you 5 hours and 20 minutes-at 128kps...even the MDLP units are old technology. I guess this unit would be okay if you just wanted to burn it on a regular cd. I prefer mp3 discs just to save time and money.

4-0 out of 5 stars CDMD Stereo
This is a good system for recording your blank MD's. You can enter TOC with the remote fairly easily and record from CD's in half the time the CD is (i.e. a 60 minute CD would take 30 minutes to record). I wasn't too thrilled about it's lack of MDLP mode which allows recording of more than 80 minutes on an 80 minute disc. Also, you cannot enter Japanese TOC's nor can it display Japanese. Other than that, this little guy works just fine ^_^

4-0 out of 5 stars Good md player
This unit is perfect for me to use in teaching dancing in smallish classrooms. Almost all my music is on minidisks; the rest on CD's that also work on this machine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Flawed, but leader in the market
I'm a professional broadcaster, having used MD since the early 1990's, and our organization uses these for newsgathering. The main flaws of the MZ-B100 as noted elsewhere are lack of lighted LCD, and extremely slow RR/FF and other actions, due to the single AA power supply and other issues. But another drawback is that, after extensive use, and with some units this develops earlier, it starts adding phantom tracks without pressing the track button. This is bothersome when you're trying to keep a record of what is where.I hope SONY comes out with an upgrade, but doubt they will, because they already have the slightly cheaper MZ-B10 and other digital recorder options.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit
This is a great unit- I bought a sony mini disc player 6 years agowhich just started to give problems (having dropped it many times)so i had to get a new one. ThisB100 as a great replacement. It is so convenient to have the ability to record and play-back all on one unit-no cords.5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for journalists
...As a journalist of 25 years experience, I have tried just about every cassette/microcassette/solid-state handheld field recorder out there. Too well do I know the hearbreak of getting back from a day of great interviews to find nothing but a hiss, or hum, or worst of all, a mumble that you cannot quite make out. This recorder solves all of those problems. It is very easy to see that it is recording -- a red light flashes -- which is reassuring while the interview is in progress. It can record for five hours, more than enough for the average reporting day. The media is removable, which means you can tuck the minidisc in a folder and transcribe it later (not possible with the new batch of solid-state microchip recorders). Battery life is fabulous, advertised at 45 hours and I believe it, the battery never seems to give up. It has a nice variable-speed playback feature, so you can run it at 80 percent speed and thus keep up while transcribing. Only minor quibble is that the review feature has a delay...if you want to back up a few seconds to catch a missed word, you have to wait about five seconds for the backing up to begin. Anyway, this thing is not cheap, but if it salvages one interview that would otherwise be lost, it will be more than worth it to the working journalist. I use it for print, but I understand that minidisc is becoming the media of choice for in-the-field radio reporters. I believe it: the sound that comes out of this thing is just plain perfect. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for a couple of days....
I was so excited about how great this product worked when I got it.I had purchased the FM transmitter for my wife and they do not work so great so I thought since my car had a tape deck I would give this a try.I was excited that I had all my ipod music with me, BUT after less than a week it the soundstarted going down hill to a point where I couldn't listen anymore with it.It is now in a landfill somewhere. My guess is I will need a radio in the car that is ipod compatiable cable. For now just have the radio and CDs I burn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well designed product.
Somebody was thinking when they designed this adapter. The plug that works for either style cassete player, the one where the small end of the cassete goes in first, or the one where the wide side goes in first. Plus the curly cord that doesn't get in the way. The big bonus is the price, it's half the cost of the Monster adapter, and it works great. The reviews of the Monster adapter are very poor. I first bought a DLO Transpod 2 FM Transmitter, big mistake. The sound was about 80% static as there wasn't any line of sight between the Transpod and the car antenna. If you have a car where the antenna is molded into the rear window, it probably would work better. Anyway this adapter and my iPod sound great over my car stereo. There are a few car cassette players that won't work with a adapter, if one adapter doesn't work, none will.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality cassette adapter
I agree with the others that have provided a favorable review.I am pleasantly surprised with many aspects of the product. It feels like a quality product. It is very quiet in the player having only a light sound of "clicking", which does not impair the reproduction of the music. The sound is very clear and not distorted.I am very pleased with it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love making recordings with my MZ-RH10
Hi-MD is a great improvement in audio technology. It is easy to record and listen to Mp3s, WAVs and WMAs, and the device is beautiful too...I couldn't be happier. The other day somebody actually offered to buy it off me on the street!
4-0 out of 5 stars READ THE FINE PRINT- You *CAN* upload mic recordings
A previous reviewer, who doesn't appear to actually own this product, claimed that you cannot upload your recordings from the RH10 to a PC. This is not true. All Hi-MD recorders allow USB upload of mic and analog line recordings. You can also record in PCM and upload in Wav format! 4-0 out of 5 stars Mine is just fine
I have owned this unit for about 3 years. It has been 100% rock solid. I was so surprised to see other people having problems. This deck was actually very reasonable, because I caught it at minidisco on a closeout. I would have been somewhat dissapointed at list price, however. Over the years, I went through several new and used Sony 320's and 510 that broke constantly, but this one is a "daily driver" and still going strong after 3 years! I heard a while back that early production models were a little junky, but mine was literally from the last set of them.1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless product
Mine didn't work for long either. It has an inability to write Disc Table of Contents that destroys both new and previously recorded discs. I lost some priceless live recordings by putting my master minidisc into this deck.2-0 out of 5 stars Breakdown

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't cram too much on a disc
Read the reviews below, but be alert to an issue with this recorder. If you put more than 20 tracks on a disc, the edit functions (move track etc) won't work on these higher numbered tracks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Feature packed, sounds pretty good too.
Addition to my review (4/2003):The player has started flaking out- not recognizing CDs are loaded, trays refusing to open when open/close button pressed.Unplug/plug required to clear- but only temporary.Update 8/2004: I had this repaired at a local shop for about 80 bucks and now it works fine- they said the "timing" on the trays needed to be adjusted.
4-0 out of 5 stars All in one
I like my XU-301 a lot. It has it's flaws in the handling butthey are easily forgotten when compared to the features you get. Ipayed for mine here in Sweden, replacing an old Denon DCD-620. Maybe the audioisn't the best but it matches the Denon at least.Read more

This home MD-stereo is the best price you can get so far, plus this isthe one of the newest system just release by Sharp.Compare to Sonyand other company's home MD-stereo..., this one really saves you a lot of money. It's sound quality is exllent and it's so stylish. It maybe a little too big as a mini-stereo system, so you might concern about its dimension, Anything else is a A+. ... Read more

It's only out of fashion. It's unfashionable because consumers aren't aware of great products like these. I bought this combo player/recorder about two years ago, and I've never been more pleased. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MD's Will Take Over!
Mini-Discs are going to be the music media choice for the next millenium! They are smaller than CD's and have more editing options available. There is no skipping in a portable Mini-Disc player like CD players. What peopledon't know is that they've been around since the early 90's, and are justnow getting noticed.I recommend converting, I have........Amen!*L*

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit with some annoying missing features
This recorder has three CD drawers and one minidisc, with a nice one-touch record to CD feature.Recording from CD to MD on the XU-301 gives a disc that sounds almost indistinguishable from the original.Optical outputsmake it possible to dub from one MD to another if you have a portable.Theremote has a flip-out keypad with all the alphanumerics for titling. Randomplay can mix CD and MD tracks. The bad news: the remote does not have apause button. That's right folks - how could they miss it? Especiallysince the main unit has a single play/pause button. Also, the titling isrestricted to 32 characters.Read more
