Good - but sounds like jet...
A great buy at the asking price.Easy install and works perfectly but sounds like a jet engine at it's full speed.
Inexpensive but good
I'm not well versed in computers, so I was hesitant about ordering a CD-RW drive that I would have to install myself. The Lite CD drive was inexpensive and probably could have installed itself it was so easy.

Memorex Internal CDRW Drive
So far I'm quite pleased with the performance of the Memorex CDRW drive. I've had some trouble with the supporting software (Nero) but I'll probably be able to work it out. One other problem is that the drive model is new enough that some other software does not support it, for example, Comcast Rhapsody does is not compatible with this drive. I've been able to patch together a "work around" this problem however.

Great Burner, Incredible Price!
This is a high quality burner which replaced a 7+ old HP that finally went out on me. I love the fact that it came with a black & a beige faceplate to match the color of my CPU. It was very easy to install if you are experienced w/ computer installations. Still, I don't think a novice would have a problem with the instructions. The Nero burner software is very simple to use & has other programs like for digital picture storage, even one where you can edit mp3 tracks. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Sony does not honor rebates
I bought this and sent in the rebate with the required paperwork and the UPC symbol from the box. Sony sent me back a letter saying that since I hadn't included the UPC label, that they could not honor my rebate. Fortunately, I'd scanned it before mailing, so I resent it to them.

Bad news -- Cannot boot from this device
I bought this drive for my Fujitsu P1510D Tablet PC which does not have an internal CDROM, and thus requires an external CDROM to reinstall the operating system.The Fujitsu supports booting from an external USB CDROM, but after being unable to boot from this device, I was informed by LaCie Tech Support that this CDROM does not support booting from it!There was no disclosure of this limitation in the sales literature or user guide.I am going to try to get my money back.It ticks me off that one has to think like a lawyer to keep from getting shafted by so many corporations these days.

The design and functionality are great, but it's very delicate, so you have to be careful to handle this with lots of care!!

LaCie provided no support for a defective product
When I first connected this drive, my computer recognized it just fine.However, I could not get it to recognize any blank DVD (DVD+R, DVD-R, or DL).It did recognize and burn CD's.I connected this drive to 3 other computers and had the same results.I emailed LaCie tech support.After two days without a response, I decided to call their support line which IS NOT toll free.After listening to on hold music for 2 hours, I gave up and decided to return the product.I finally did get a response from their tech support. They told me to exchange the unit.I find it completely unacceptable that a company, with the brand recognition that LaCie has, does not have a toll free tech support number, takes over two hours to answer a tech support call, and takes over 3 days to reply to an e-mail when their response is to exchange the unit. ... this was the worst product I've ever bought!!!And I own a Dell!!!
I was really excited the day I got this burner, but I wasn't expected so many problems for so many hours.It's probably a compatibility issue with Windows XP, but why is this the case if it's a new product?The company has no helpful troubleshooting documents or services, the software they give you is unnecessary, and I'm just getting madder and madder just thinking about how long it took to figure out it wasn't going to work!Don't buy it if you have Windows XP.

Misrepresented piece of junk!
Shipped me an old 8200f burner with 8220e/8230e software. Will burn files and folders...However, just opening up a CD containing a Windows Folder (Not even trying to open the folder!)in DLA causes total computer Memory Dump and requires System Restore. Spent six hours and $20 worth of blank CD's doing all upgrades, patches, workarounds, etc. Is not a USB problem, as a CD ceated in DLA by this burner does the same thing when opened on my internal NEC burner.Worthless and I can't trust it with my data, so I'll have to go buy another one.
Great, solid performing burner...
I have never had a problem with this burner and I would recommend it for a first time burner. It also has very easy to use software!!!

BIG PROBLEMS
Like many other reviewers, I've had many problems and made lots of coasters.First time was making data CDs, but new version of Record Now seems to work OK there.Now I'm stuggling to make audio CDs (0 for 3 to date).That's with nothing but Explorer and Record Now running, and making the CD from MP3 files on the hard drive.Burning never completes and drive is "hung" (can't eject the CD). TAKE HEED and buy something else if you want to be productive and save a lot of time. (And tech support is as "iffy" as everyone says!!) ... Read more

Yuck!
Be sure to hang on to your receipt...chances are high that you'll swiftly return it for a refund.I wasted my entire day off trying to figure this thing out!It comes and goes on my system.One moment it's there and then it goes into hiding.Very complicated and impossible to figure out.I advise everyone to look elsewhere.

Drive went bad one month after waranty expired, seldom used.
Bought this product. Had problems with compatible media. At first, HP support said I had to buy HP media (how convenient, and expensive). I finally found a media that worked (Dysan, if you have ever heard of them). The drive just went out on me. I have the original 50cd spindle of media here. I have burned less than 50 cd's in the drive. I wasted 4 hours trying to figure it out. It spins fine, it opens/closes fine, but windows just says 'insert disk'. I contacted HP support, after wasting my time with newbie tasks, they had me unplug the ide cable... Ehh
For some reason this burner takes about seven minutes when writing off the hard drive, and 20 minutes when copying from the CDROM drive.I have new Pentium 4 with a 50X cdrom drive, so I can't figure out why it is so slow.Tried 4 different software programs (the bundled burning software from HP is terrible by the way), different IDE chain combinations, and even different OSs to try to speed it up, but with no luck.Hmm.On the plus side though, its had a lot of use (about three hundred discs) with no problems or coaster-producing tendencies.

Very Adequate burner but bundled software sucks
After many hours of help from the HP support people, I finally was able to get the burner up and running.The HP people were very helpful and they couldn't say their burning software was bad, but if you read between the lines, they as much as said to dump the "Veritas My CD" software that comes with it.I agree.I got buffer underruns whenever I tried to burn an audio or data cd.I bought Click 'n burn pro and have been burning without a problem ever since.Instead of cutting corners, HP should bundle software worthy of their fine products.Other than that, it is a great burner. ...
