Lexmark is finally getting it
From the reviews here the lack of USB cable is the biggest beef; I've been buying USB printers for years and have a drawer-FULL of USB cables and am glad to NOT have to pay Lexmark to include yet another one.
Great printer for a very decent price!!!
I absolutely LOVE this printer. I had to get this printer after looking into it, because it is compatible with my computer system (Windows XP Home Edition). (At first, I thought about getting the Z730 model, but had to disregard the thought because I read a number of negative reviews about it and its performance.) I bought this Z611 from Wal-Mart (their price was almost $23.00). Another reason why I had to buy this printer was because the other printer my mother and I had (an Epson Stylus C80) had quit working after four years, which came with our computer system (in 2002). For our Epson, it was a color printer and used 4 cartridges (one each of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow). It was a great printer, but the prices of ink for it were kind of mediocre; whenever a cartridge ran out of ink on the Epson, the printer could not be used until a cartridge(s) was replaced, and it would be a while until more ink could be afforded. Anyway, with this Lexmark Z611 printer, the price was decent, it came with a color cartridge (#27), software, etc. Installing this machine was not a problem. Within a few minutes, it started working properly. You also get to choose your print quality, especially "Quick Print", where you can print your document out faster and use less ink. You are also given the option to print out color images in black and white to conserve color ink (that is convenient). I also use "Normal"; I have not yet used "Better" or "Best" for print quality. I learned that "Better" and "Best" print qualities provide much sharper results, but take longer to print out and use up more ink; in that case, to extend color and black ink, these latter two quality settings ("Better" and "Best") should NOT be used too often. You can also use this printer with just a color cartridge or just a black cartridge. You also get an on screen ink level monitor that shows you what your ink levels are whenever you have a print job in progress. Another wonderful thing is that you hear a voice at the beginning ("Printing started") and end of your print job ("Printing complete"). Very neat!! When I bought this printer, I decided to also get a black cartridge (#17), which was almost $20. Using only two different cartridges, one black and one color, getting ink is much easier. Color ink is in one cartridge; not multiple ones. Photo printout is excellent. I have only used plain paper to print out a couple of pictures with this printer; results are wonderful!! I am hoping to use photo paper soon. This is a wonderful printer to get because the price is decent and not one to put a flaw in your budget, and ink cartridges are easily affordable, as well. Get this printer; you won't regret it whatsoever!!

Glad I switched to the Lexmark
I just returned an HP Deskjet printer 3730 after I could no longer stand the slow speed of printing - especially envelopes - and its insatiable appetite for ink! The Z611 is so much quieter and faster in comparison. I also like the idea of being able to choose the best print quality - something the HP did not offer. The one thing I don't like is they do not provide a hardcopy of the Users Manual - a pain to have to sit on the computer and click all over the place to find what you want. Will have to call Lexmark and see if I can get a hardcopy - this printer is almost the same size as the HP 3930 - only a little wider, but still not a space hog by any means. I hope I am not overrating it with 5 stars - but it is definitely a 4-star printer for sure. ... Read more

HARDWARE IS GOOD SOFTWARE IS TOSSABLE
I have been looking at these capture units for a while. I have only used one before this. [Dazzle] As mentioned before the Ulead software is a flop. I'm using Easy Media Creator 8. My DVD 8 sees the capture unit, and works great with it.
Does the job
Set up went without incident.ULead software (now included) was powerful and easy to follow.Created a dvd from a VHS tape in 2 hours.No complaints.Highly recommended.

Great product, mediocre software...
I was nervous about getting any converter after reading reviews of quite a few of them here. I have never done any video conversion or editing before, and I had about 2 days to transfer an analog videotape and clean it up for a work project.

Sony does not honor rebates
I bought this and sent in the rebate with the required paperwork and the UPC symbol from the box. Sony sent me back a letter saying that since I hadn't included the UPC label, that they could not honor my rebate. Fortunately, I'd scanned it before mailing, so I resent it to them.

Very Disappointed
I purchased Plextor for what I thought was a quality product. However, now after about 18 months of not very heavy use it has failed (I can no longer burn a DVD). So, while it worked better than a previous SONY DVD writer (it never burned a single DVD) the Plextor has not lived up to my expectations. So I cannot recommend it.

Product Support - Lack of
Quality appearance of unit is excellent. However, Plextor RMA product support is severly lacking.
ALWAYS works even with low cost media
It works.It always works.It burns on ANY media.It can overcome "imperfections" in LOW LOW cost media and return a readable disc.I've never bothered with the bundled software, but I'm certainly NOT EVER going to install anything from Roxio.

Good.Not Great.
This is a nice-looking unit with DVD RW and CD RW capabilities.I have gotten faster performance by using the included FireWire cable, which incidentally frees up a USB port.It works lying flat or standing on its side in the included holder.I have been able to install the software on multiple computers, enabling me to use this one drive to back them up and swap data between them.I have only begun using the FireWire connection, so I cannot say how it will turn out in the long run.Using the USB connection, I burned a few coasters, but really not bad at all.There are two significant drawbacks:(1) I have had some discs complete and verify just fine -- and then it turns out that I cannot read their data in this drive.I had to use other machines to read them.In one case, I had to try a half-dozen other DVD drives before finding one that would read the disc this unit had burned.That was scary; it was data I could not replace.(2) There is something funky about the relationship between this unit and Windows XP.Nine times out of ten, it is just fine.But once in a while I cannot get Windows to see this drive.Plextor told me to use the reset button, and that worked once, but it hasn't worked since then.I have had to reboot and try again.

its a good drive, a bit pricy and bulky. it worked wonderfly for me for about 3 months then it had a hard time reading media and made dvd coasters. getting it to read anything now is like playing on a slot machine. im still working with tech support to rectify the problem.

poor tech support
I purchased this 708UF due to many good reviews (unbelievable - all gave this 5 stars). I read system requirement and compare different bands and chose this one. I've this less than two weeks and it took 6 hours to copy a DVD. The rate is only 0.01x. I would not expect this to be 8x as advertised but I was expecting at least 4x. I tried different brand of 8x DVD+&- including Sony but the snail speed. I contacted to Plextor tech support and told me to update my USB. I've WinXP with SP2 and the USB2.0 is fully functioned. I tried with different PC but the speed is slower than a snail, 0.01x. I contacted to Microsoft and I've the most recent driver update. This plextor tech support person was unhelpful and unresponsible for their product - contrary to their advertisement. Shoddy CD loader.
I was a bit apprehensive about getting a trayless DVD drive but I thought Plextor had a decent reputation.After the first few DVDs, the drive broke.It is no longer possible to load a DVD.I would not recommend buying this drive.If you are dead set on the Plextor 716 get the one with the tray loading. ... very pleasant buying experience. Came much faster than expected, even though I didn't get express shipment. Product is exactly what I was looking for, works exactly as they said it would. it worked well for just 2 weeks!!!
I used it for 2 weeks witha plextor dvd+-R/RW and it was working well, but then it did not work anymore, the problem was the AC Adapter, I searched for any kind of universal replacement AC adapter and I did not found it anywhere, because it is a special adapter (1700 mA) and the highest I found was 1200 mA but it did not worked.

2x VS 4x
It is extremely important that you know exactly what type of DVD-RW's you're buying - this listing should be more specific. I was just given a Samsung VHS / DVD Recorder and it lists very, very specific DVD's that the unit accepts (IE: It takes Sony DVD-R 4x, but it won't take a Sony DVD-RW!) AND... It only accepts 2x DVD-RW's! I made four trips back and forth to Staples just to find out they didn't have the specific brand name that I needed & I eventually found the Maxell DVD-RW 2x @ a not so local Sears Electronic store. Read your directions closely.

Best for DVD Recorders
I just got me a Toshiba recorder and is very picky on the kind of media you use in it. It doesn't like verbatins or sonys which are very good (except for this type of recorder). So if you are looking for a good media for your recorder, this is one you can use.

Fellows Privacy Filter
This product does just what I wanted. Makes it impossible for someone seated at my guest desk to see what is on my screen. I do taxes and clients come and pick up thier returns while I am working on someone else's information. This way I don't have to shut everything down. Plus, it really did away with the glare. I did not have that much but now I have none. It was hard to find this product. They only seem to carry filters for the skinny monitors in the stores and other filters I looked at through web searches were either not the right size or way too much money. Great dvd Burner
I am not sure why the other review is so bad, but let me tell you, this is one awesome dvd drive.I have not had one bad disk made with this unit....If you are trying to copy a copy protected DVD, it is your software causing you the problems, not the DVD unit.....This unit is perfect....

Be Careful
I couldn't get this unit to work despite a ton of e-mails to and from the manufacturer's tech support people.My problem: no media player software, including the Cineplayer software packaged with the unit, was able to play a DVD on this unit without false copyright protection errors and other aberrations.Iomega tech support asked me to try a ton of solutions, none of which worked.Then Iomega changed its story and said the problem was the Cineplayer, which won't work under Windows XP!They advised me to delete Cineplayer and try Windows Media Player, but that didn't work either.This unit is going back to the merchant. I don't believe the manufacturer tested it fully and I've given the manufacturer every chance to prove that the unit works under XP. In my personal experience, it does not. ... Read more
