Dual XDM6820: A Dang Good Deal
I too was looking for an iPod connection for my '99 9-3 Saab that was w/o original radio/cd. I couldn't believe the price on this unit but the reviews convinced me, anyway it was fairly easy to install, took me an hour from start to finish. All I needed were 12 solderless connectors and a wire stripper/crimping tool. I've been using the unit for a week now and will agree with some reviews who say the lights are too bright. Great for daytime, way too much for night. I've considered a couple options, one was dark window tint overlays but I've decided to alter the removable faceplate provided with the unit to fashion a cover. I'll slice the FP cover in half at the hinge giving me two covers, some velcro and I'll have a cover that will work at night, set the unit how i like and place the FP cover over it using the velcro to secure. Should be a breeze to do.
Poor Man's MP3/CD player
After reading reviews on this and other products, I decided to go with the Dual XDM-6820. I got it from Amazon for $79 and free shipping. I've been using it now for about a month and have not been disappointed by anything! (I was already expecting the ridiculously bright lights from the other reviews) This stereo has so far been one of those purchases that keeps surprising me with it's versatility and features. I've found that a quick perusal of the instructions was enough to be able to use almost all the important functions: CD playback, radio station presets, radio scan, eq customization, switching between albums on a single MP3 disc, mute, external audio source plugin jack (i.e. iPod or even a Walkman), etc.
Turn down the lights!
I have to agree with other posters here who praise the sound, but can't stand the bright blue lights.

Pyramid CDR86DX
The radio sounds great as does the CD player.This morning it was 14 dgrees F in N.Y. and the CD player was very unclear with alot of static until my car warmed up.I believe the Laser lens was probably fogged from moisture.Eventually it played great again as the static gradually diminished.The CD also could use a last track played memory.This would come in handy when continuing to listen to a CD book after re-entering the car.It takes minutes to FF and REV to find the point you stopped at.Otherwise, for the money, this unit works very well. ... Great little stereo for the price
I was looking for a stereo that played MP3 files.Did the research, and for the price ($120 at the time), grabbed this one.
nice piece of equipment
This JVC cd receiver is very powerful with my 6 x 9 speakers. It also fits neatly in my dash and was easily hooked up. I also really like that it has a input to connect directly to my JVC cd changer which I can access with one touch of the remote. The two colour display is really cool too.

The used Durango I recently purchased came with the "90-pound-weakling" equivalent of a factory stereo. I wanted to do a better job than when I added an aftermarket system to the Dakota a few years back, so I researched which CD receivers would be the best fit for the 1.5 DIN (oversized) dash opening (found in a bunch of Chrysler and GM vehicles).

Don't buy this radio for Sirius Satellite Service...
I've liked using this radio so far, and have used it with Sirius successfully, but I would advise those looking for a new radio and want it to work sith Sirius Satellite service to look at Kenwood, Audiovox or another brand that offers Sirius ready units.I've tried to put back this unit in a new car I just purchased that replaced one that had been stolen (and had replaced this head unit as well), and found that the process of finding a receiver to work with this head unit is near impossible.The CR-SRT100 receiver that is necessary for Sirius service with this unit has been discontinued by Panasonic and is only available at places like Ebay.Also, some of the newer satellite radio antennas like the TERK SIR3 are geared to work with a single input receiver rather than the dual input receiver that the CR-SRT100 is.The splitter necessary to connect these antennas to this hard to find receiver is equally hard to find as well.You will spend a lot of time trying to find these parts if you try goind down the route I did.This isn't a radio that you can just take to Circuit City and have them "install Sirius" one afternoon and be done with it.It won't be as simple as that. Panasonic and Sirius the best choice!

Good entry level value.
We have a relatively small boat (a ShuttleCraft powered by a 2 person jetski - about 16' and max 5 passengers when the two are connected), and this system seems to be a good match for what we were looking for.Quality seems to be as expected so far.Decent sound and performance for the price.I bought an FM antenna (about $10 from a boater's-catalog type place) to go along with the stereo and speakers.

The Best CD/MP3 Radio unit for the car.
I bought the unit because I wanted to use MP3 burned CD that I am using at work. This way I can have a lot music (like 6 conventional CDs on a single MP3 CD). Everybody who rides in my car is impressed with this system
This is a really cool looking stereo with lots of cool features that no other system has. For example, when it plays CDs it reads the name of the song and artist (if present) and has an everchanging background that you can change to lots of different colors. The text display is a disappointment because it shows only the first seven or so letters of the name of the artist. This is not good if you listen to XM (which once you get you will not want to listen to much of anything else). Also, it does not hold XM presets and does not display the time while the XM radio is engaged. I don't use an amp for the speakers and it is plently loud. I would recommend this item but I would get a stand alone XM tuner and plug it threw the Aux input for ideal results. ... Read more
