Dual XDM6820: A Dang Good Deal
I too was looking for an iPod connection for my '99 9-3 Saab that was w/o original radio/cd. I couldn't believe the price on this unit but the reviews convinced me, anyway it was fairly easy to install, took me an hour from start to finish. All I needed were 12 solderless connectors and a wire stripper/crimping tool. I've been using the unit for a week now and will agree with some reviews who say the lights are too bright. Great for daytime, way too much for night. I've considered a couple options, one was dark window tint overlays but I've decided to alter the removable faceplate provided with the unit to fashion a cover. I'll slice the FP cover in half at the hinge giving me two covers, some velcro and I'll have a cover that will work at night, set the unit how i like and place the FP cover over it using the velcro to secure. Should be a breeze to do.
Poor Man's MP3/CD player
After reading reviews on this and other products, I decided to go with the Dual XDM-6820. I got it from Amazon for $79 and free shipping. I've been using it now for about a month and have not been disappointed by anything! (I was already expecting the ridiculously bright lights from the other reviews) This stereo has so far been one of those purchases that keeps surprising me with it's versatility and features. I've found that a quick perusal of the instructions was enough to be able to use almost all the important functions: CD playback, radio station presets, radio scan, eq customization, switching between albums on a single MP3 disc, mute, external audio source plugin jack (i.e. iPod or even a Walkman), etc.
Turn down the lights!
I have to agree with other posters here who praise the sound, but can't stand the bright blue lights.

i got this after long research on the web. the key pads are crampier and the system overheats and skips the tracks after 2-3 hours of play. i will be returning and getting something else

Cheap, but, has its uses.
The main selling factor of this thing is that it is one of the cheapest ways you'll get a stereo with an audio input.First of all, I find the claim "CD-R/ CD-RW compatable" to be a an outright lie since it has no way of reading even CD-ROM (no optical drive!) however, that's ok, I didn't buy it for CD playback but for the audio input.I give it one notch off (4 stars) just for being overall a cheap player with a cheap on/off bass boost rather than even a treble/bass analog control.Another notch off because the 15W per channel is pretty low end stuff and I have to turn my MP3 player (which boasts a higher than usual output at 30mW per channel) almost all the way up and its volume almost all the way up.If you have only two speakers in your car or truck, this may work a lot better, but, most of us have four, so that 15W per channel becomes 7.5W per channel in essense.
quality sound, quality product
so i bought this product for my father's 77 chevy truck, it fit perfectly and the sound quality is excellent, his is very happy, i do wish it had a way to program radio stations, but in it's defense, it does have an audio jack on the front which is very handy for mp3 players or just more speakers

The remote of the CDX-454RF use Radio Frequency Technology, and that's one of its most important point.

Gotta luv it!
I received this unit as a gift and I just love it. The sound is awesome and it looks sleek too! I love the fact that it plays MP3's too. They sound great! I put all my favorites on one disk and it's easy to locate the songs I want to hear. Button placement was a bit challenging at first but can be mastered.
Try another product.....
Frankly I'm disapointed in the product. Usually you can trust Sony but not in this case. The unit is horrible at playing mp3's and they did not even include a pause function. I would check others in the line out careful as they may have the same "engineering". ... Read more

Great little stereo for the price
I was looking for a stereo that played MP3 files.Did the research, and for the price ($120 at the time), grabbed this one.
nice piece of equipment
This JVC cd receiver is very powerful with my 6 x 9 speakers. It also fits neatly in my dash and was easily hooked up. I also really like that it has a input to connect directly to my JVC cd changer which I can access with one touch of the remote. The two colour display is really cool too.

Plenty of power and features, easy to install, performs well
The used Durango I recently purchased came with the "90-pound-weakling" equivalent of a factory stereo. I wanted to do a better job than when I added an aftermarket system to the Dakota a few years back, so I researched which CD receivers would be the best fit for the 1.5 DIN (oversized) dash opening (found in a bunch of Chrysler and GM vehicles).

Lots of Features
I really wanted a tape player and a CD player, so this seemed like my best alternative.The CD player did not work in the first one that I received. (Only the right speakers emitted sound).The replacement seems to work fine.I like the sound quality.I like the auxillary port for my MP3 player.I do not like the bright, graphic EQ display, but I think I can find a tinted sticker to mellow it a bit.The unit also has an internal speaker, and it plays several different quirky little noises each time that you push a control button.I will probably put a piece of tape over that speaker to make the noises more subtle.All in all, it seems like a decent unit with the set of features that I wanted.

not bad
i ordered this unit for my blazer. it came with a large collection of mounting brackets, so i didnt need to buy any of that stuff (which would have pretty much defeated the purpose of buying a 1.5 din head unit). It has a different plug that the GM head units (of course) and i bought an adapter so i didnt have to splice into the existing wires, pepboys appx $17. and i needed an antenna plug converter, walmart appx $5. i get "grey noise" comming through my speakers most of the time, but if the volume is over 5 or 6, i dont notice it (could also be a bad connection - but i doubt it). it has RCA preouts on the back which are good for connecting an amp. it has an antenna line (unused in my blazer) that can be used as a remote turn on for an amp. the head unit looks nice, but the text in the lcd display is too big - in my opinion. Most [artist - song] titles are longer than 8 (or so) characters (when playing mp3's). minipin aux in on the front of the unit is nice for connecting stuff like my laptop or mp3 player. not as many operation options as i hoped for, and the search/find/navigation of an mp3 cd is pretty complex. head unit makes an anoying noise when you skip tracks or do some other stuff (i dont know how to or if you can turn it off, so i may just open it and disconnect the internal speaker). --BUT-- for its price, and the plusses (cd, mp3, cassette player, 18 mem fm and 6 mem am tuner, aux in on front, "loud button" (increases bass), rca preout on back for amp or otherwise, etc) i feel that i good a pretty good deal. i would recommend it for anyone who wanted a relatively easy and not overly expensive upgrade for a gm, and would be willing to put up with the complexities. best price (cost + ship) i found anywhere was amazon. prob will not be in a local store, but check there anyways.

Very pleased with this
There aren't many units on the market yet with this spec - cassette/CD/MP3CD/aux, all in a 1.5 DIN package.No nasty surprises in the spec, and the sound quality is excellent.I was concerned about whether so much technology in such a small package might overheat (stories abound) but I've run this unit continuously for over 4 hours and it worked just fine.It makes a peculiar whooshing sound every time a key is pressed or a track changes, but that is part of its charm. Only downside was when I asked the manufacturer some questions, and got nothing intelligable in response.Great value. ... Read more
