Editorial Review

Relive days gone by with Teac's SL-D90 series of CD clock radios, available in white, black, turquoise or red. The retro styling is reminiscent of a 1950s diner, or a classic Ford Thunderbird. Although the SL-D90 might look like it can only play the oldies, it's got technology inside that's in tune with today. The top-loading CD player is compatible with music CDs as well as your CD-R or CD-RW discs. In addition to sporting repeat, intro scan and shuffle functions, you can program up to 20 tracks to play in the order you choose. The digital quartz PLL synthesized AM/FM stereo tuner supports 10 FM and 10 AM station presets. The two speakers are powered by 20 watts of total power. There's also a built-in 3-inch subwoofer that features its own independent volume control knob. The main volume knob is motorized-- something that's very handy when you want to adjust the volume with the included remote control. There's even a headphone jack for when you want to listen in private. An auxiliary line-in jack lets you plug in an external device like an MP3 jukebox. Finally, the SL-D90 is a fully functional alarm clock with timer, sleep and snooze functions.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but . . .
We bought this for our 8 year old son for Christmas. He loves it, is easy to operate, and seemingly durable. We'll be watching the top closing CD tray to see if it lasts.
3-0 out of 5 stars a cool lookin' accent piece...
I've always held TEAC in high regard. They are more known for their broadcast quality audio equipment (the TASCAM series) than anything else. So, when I saw this cool looking unit, gave it a try...i was impressed by the sound quality. Turns out, it has a woofer built in. For someone like me with a bachelor size room, the sound quality is more than enough. I even hooked up my turntable to it.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but don't expect fabulous.
I really like my red version of this radio/CD player. However, in the beginning it wouldn't play my CD's, and some how it stopped acting up after a short while.I haven't had a problem anymore.I bought it last year for x-mas and we keep it in the kitchen, which is perfect with the theme. So far, I am pleased.I hope it lasts a long time. The radio also seems to be really great in reception, especially compared to another little boom box I got the same year. I think these radios are hit or miss as far as durability and quality. As for now, mine is a hit.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's all good in Chicago
I own this little beauty and everyone one in my office either ask is it a scale or ask if they can have it. My response to both questions is always no. This unit is great I love the ability to place it almost any where although the stand needs a little help, The sound is great I also wished it was a multiple player but I'll keep what I have. Buy and you'll like it

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding. Until it falls over with a thud.
It's no Wave, but it's not bad except for the flimsy stand that keeps the player from falling over. It barely does that. And there's the odd need to expose the entire CD player to insert a disc. But the player sounds pretty good, reception is OK and if you hang it securely on a wall until it's time to throw it in a suitcase you'll be fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute concept. Sounds like it looks
I wanted a small CD player for the kitchen. It does not fill the room at all, however, I like the size, and it can be discreetly tucked anywhere. Everyone asks, what's with the scale? when they first see this. THe sound is a bit too tinny, needs a better bass boost. I'm also a music buff, so this is merely suitable for the news, listening to favorite CD tracks, and keeping me company in the kitchen when I'm washing dishes. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Alarm Clock!
I decided to get rid of my Sony Dream Machine and replace it with the Memorex MC2850. I have had the memorex for 3 weeks now and it's been great! I like listening to music before I go to bed and what better way then to listen to my favorite CD and set the sleep timer to 90, 60, or 30 minutes and it will turn off automatically. The buttons, especially the volume and alarm controls do take time getting used to but after 2 weeks, I memorized where they all were. Although I do wish there was better placement of the volume control. The sound is stereo so for moderate to low level, it's great like in an office or bedroom. It's smaller than I expected, it doesn't take that much more space than your typical alarm clock!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Durability
On the advice of another reviewer here, I bought this item for mydaughter for the Holidays.Within a month or so, it started actingup, and eventually the CD player stopped working.I know that theprice is low, but if this is what you get... save your money and buyan alarm clock at Wal-Mart.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best clock radio design available
After doing extensive research trying to find the perfect clock radio, I've concluded that manufacturers treat them as cheap commodities and it's hard to find one that you call "high quality". But, this is a very good one compared to the competition, and I believe the best available.
1-0 out of 5 stars This radio is a piece of cr*p!
I have two of these and woe is me!When the display on my 17-yr-old Sony Dream Machine quit working right, my husband and I bought two of these (one for our room and one for our son's) because they were all we could find in the local stores.Unfortunately none of us can make them work right (probably should say "work they way we want them to").The CD alarm starts over in the same place every morning, no matter how long you allowed it to play the previous day.Yippee, your own personal GROUND HOG DAY.My husband (an engineer) can never figure out how to turn it off versus hit the snooze in the morning, so every morning we don't know whether we're going to be late for work. And the FM reception is not good.I prefer to wake up to WUOM in the morning, but this radio can't detect it, even though every other radio in the house and cars can (it's a college station located about 30 miles away and otherwise detectable for many counties around).I have HAD IT with these pieces of trash!Today I went onto Amazon and ordered a new Dream Machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars gorgeous sound CD player
The sound coming out of the cd player is even BETTER than i expected.Beinga classical music person, i place great emphasis on the sound for the cd player. In total, i probably did hours and hours research on line, AFTER noticing the TIMEX that a friend owns.

2-0 out of 5 stars Model of unreliablility
I got this out of a simple desire to be woken up by my favourite songs. Straight away it failed to run a single MP3 off my burnt CDs. In the year since, I've had an alarm button literally break and cannot get normal CD track to run in order. It functions now as a regular radio for me. For my relatively modest needs, this Dream Machine was an expensive hassle. Dang!

3-0 out of 5 stars Its okay.....
out of all of my alarm clocks that i have had, its just okay. it wakes me up when it has to, most of the time. i have found that i have been late to work several times because it just doesnt want me to wake up sometimes. other than that the fetures are pretty good, the cd player part works very good. and im not sure who said it, but it does have a batery backup, or at least mine does, cause i never have to reset it when the power goes out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't recommend this
There's no battery back up and the radio needs to be tuned manually.I wanted the radio to wake me and set it for the radio, but the alarm beeped.I reset it and tried the following morning using the second alarm, and it also only beeped.I want to wake gradually to a radio, not a beeping.I do not recommend this item. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Sony Clock radio
This is a great radio, but i'm taking it back. It has a nice small footprint, taking up only a little room on a nightstand. The nap feature and dual alarms are very nice features too. My primary reason for returning this radio is that the display is too bright, even at it's lowest setting. It's bright enough to keep me awake at night. At it's highest setting, this clock radio could double as a nightlight. Second, there is no battery backup. Third, the power cord is black. A very sharp contrast for a white clock radio. It just dosent look right.

3-0 out of 5 stars everything I wanted, one thing I didn't
What I was looking for was a clock radio that had a digital tuner and a simple alarm on/off system (I seem to have a problem with pushing switches too far and not waking up.) When I got the sony home and played with it's features I was floored, this is one of the best designed clocks I've ever seen. They put a lot of thought into this one, for example, you can set which preset radio station to wake up to. So if you want to use the sleep feature and go to bed listening to Beethoven's 5th on NPR but would rather wake up to some AC/DC you can do it!Also, the nap feature allows you to quickly set the alarm to go off in 15,30,40,etc minutes so that you don't have to reset your alarm time. And if you hit the snooze button it adds time, so instead of 10 minutes more sleep you get 20, or more! However, I'm an insomniac, and find that I can only sleep well when the room is dark. If you are like me and can't handle any light in your room, then this is not the clock for you. SERIOUSLY. On the highest brightness level you can make shadow puppets on the wall. And on the lowest you can use the clock as a reading light (if you hold it close enough to your book). So, even though this would have been the perfect clock for me I had to return it. Hopefully one day clock manufacturers will realize that a simple on off switch for the back lighting is all that's needed to let millions of people enjoy their products.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful styling!
As others have stated, the LCD display is very bright, but that's not that big of a deal for me. This unit has surprisingly good sound for being mono.I like the nap feature and the direct tuning buttons.Reception is very good, as I have been able to pick up a station in Charlotte, which is 90 miles away.I agree that it is odd that the alarms are limited to one being buzzer and one being radio.I listen to the radio when I go to bed, and keep it at a low volume.Luckily, I am a light sleeper, and the volume is enough to wake me.While shopping for clock radios I noticed that the majority of them have a traditional "dial-type" volume, even though the tuner is digital. If the volume were digital as well, then the user could set a preferred volume level for the alarm.I also thought it was unfortunate that Sony did not include a battery back-up. ... Editorial Review

The Koss KS7311 CD clock radio offers style and convenience, letting you enjoy its CD and FM/AM radio features while savoring its stylish appearance and cool, vertical-loading CD transport. The unit's dual alarms let two people rise at different times, waking to the sound of CD, radio, or a traditional buzzer. Like to snooze before pulling yourself out of bed? You'll like the unit's large, easy-to-whack snooze bar. The KS7311 itself has a small footprint, however, so it won't hog space on your nightstand. Want to listen after your partner hits the hay? 4-0 out of 5 stars Alright. . .
Well, it's not necessarily a bad product. I tried (and failed) to replace it with a much better stereo recently. The problem with this CD clock radio is that the only part that functions very well is the clock. The CD player skips constantly, the radio can pick up one out of every one hundred stations, and the maximum volume is extremely quiet. But the reasons I kept it over the stereo- the clock and the shut-off feature. The clock is perfect- no button to hit to make it glow at night. It's always bright and easy to read, so there's no need to be reaching around for buttons in the middle of the night. And this can be set to shut off after a certain period of time- probably it's best feature. When I listen to music at night, I want the player to shut off when the CD is over. This does that and does it well. I'm probably going to a buy a new clock radio to replace this one- but this one is definitely not a bad product. It's got some minor defects though that I wish I had been aware of.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Do NOT Recommend
I purchased this product less than a year ago from amazon.com based on the customer reviews listed here. I recently attempted to play a CD and the thing just stopped working! I thought it may be that the CD was badly damaged so I tested out about 10 CD's after that, and NOTHING! The CD spins as if it's going to play and then it just stops. I've tried everything, from raising/lowering volume to pressing the play/pause button. The display screen doesn't even go on anymore when I input a CD. The radio function is terrible and I cannot seem to get a clear sound from any of my favorite radio stations (much less find them easily...seems as if the markers are off by a bit), and it looks great in pics, but when I actually received it, I thought it just looked like a cheap piece of plastic. (Though I kept it because I though it would endure the test of time...I was WRONG!) The warranty is only for 90-days so now if I want to get it fixed I need to PAY for it! No thanks. I am sticking to SONY or another more reliable brand.

2-0 out of 5 stars Adorable, but a little disappointing...
Though I love the look of the radio, I also purchased it because of the clock feature. This radio is in my daughter's nursery and I wanted to be able to glance at it in the middle ofthe night to see what time it was, however, the power has to be totally off in order for the clock to display.Otherwise it just stays on the radio channel or the CD song number. Also, I purchased this radio for the CD capability, so I could purchase lullabies to ease my daughter to sleep.Well, this radio is loud/abrupt when it switches from one track to another. So loud that it sometimes wakes my daughter - which totally defeats the purpose.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's worked fine for me... your milage may vary though
I've owned this alarm for at least 18 months now and I haven't had any of the problems that everyone else mentions in their reviews except for the annoying display. I've found the speakers adequate given that the alarm is so compact (no, it's not Bose or Cambridge Soundworks good, but it also didn't cost that much). I've been waking up to the CD alarm for the entire time I've owned the unit and it still functions flawlessly.
1-0 out of 5 stars Looks great but that's it
This is a great looking radio with a small footprint - a nice alternative to the black cubes. But that's it.I had it for less than six months when the CD began stopping and re-starting on its own.Now it just stops. The display is as bright as a night light and can't be adjusted. Now it's basically a $79 piece of sculpture on my nightstand.Soon it will belong to the Goodwill.

I've had this clock for about 9 months.I got it because it had CD, nap, & headphone capablilites. The features are great, but the quality of the unit is not very good.I found:5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
