irecommendbuying the roady
I installed the roady in my car a few days ago.my wife has a xm radio in her new vehile so i was some what familiar with the xm radio.the only reason i didn't give theroady 5 stars was that the signal to the indash radio is poor.on the front of my in dash stereo there is a aux. input which i plugged my roady into and the roady plays crystal clear, however this connected is not mentioned in the roady instruction manual.i have three vehicles and all three have an aux. input on the front of the cd player that i plug my mp3 player into.xm radio was running a special and i got the unit and the car kit for 40.00.all in all the roady is awesome.
Below Average Sound Using FM Wireless Signal; Also, cancelling service is a joke
This review is more about my several month's experience with XM satellite radio and the not-so-good quality using the wireless FM frequencies through our car's radios. I live in Los Angeles.
Great XM Receiver
I guess 'early adopter' from Denver is one of those that can't do a little research or bother to read the manual.Installing the antenna OUTSIDE the car - what a concept!Where did EA think the antenna would go?You do need to have a 'clear view off the sky' for best reception (the antenna has to 'see' the satellite). For example, don't expect to sit in the car in your garage/basement and listen to the radio. You CAN select direct channels (unlike mentioned by EA).If you want to go from channel 100 to 200, you just enter 200 with the number keys.It does take a second or two for the radio to switch, unlike conventional radio, but that's a minor annoyance.Take the dash out to install? - I don't want EA doing any work around my house. This receiver is VERY easy to install.Just mount it somewhere on the dash - I used velcro - run the power cord from a 12V source, run/mount the antenna, and you're done.(Come on EA, do you work for a 'terrrestial' radio station losing market share to satellite radio?)EA is correct in that the built-in FM 're-transmitter' is not that great.I use the cassette adapter and play it through my built-in cassette deck.Luckily my car has one, and the fidelity is very good.

Lemon!
I thought the notion of a portable was wonderful. I'm very sorry I purchased this particular unit. It never after the first week worked off the cradle (bad battery? On a new unit?). The unit keypad stopped working completely after a couple of weeks. In order to use this "portable", I have to have it cradled and use the remote--otherwise, I cannot use it away from home.
TRUE ALL-IN-ONE XM RADIO EXPERIENCE!
Bought this because someone stole my Roady2 from my car. When I bought the Roady2, I had to buy a separate kit to play at home. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but it makes me appreciate this Delphi unit even more. Literally everything is included for car and home use, as well as attaching it to your belt. I point the antenna south, and get max reception in both the mountains and central part of NC. My favorite feature is clicking through the stations by category, instead of having to go through each station. Much easier! And being able to record favorites for later use-WOW!
A suggestion
I just received this radio and love everything about it.I would suggest to anyone who is planning on using this for home use to either order a set of small pc type speakers when you order your radio or see if you have an extra set at home already.I found that while it is in the home unit you have to listen with the ear buds, but you cannot adjust the volume on the radio unless it is out of the home stand (for portable use).If you plug in a set of small speakers where the earbuds go, you can adjust the volume on your speakers and everything is just fine.At first I thought my radio was faulty because I couldn't adjust the volume, but after working with it for awhile, this is what I found out.I could hear OK with just the earbuds, but it was too loud for my liking.

What I've Been Waiting for...but Get the Car Kit
This device meets all of my needs as both an XM radio and a MP3/WMA player. Just keep in mind, that unless you have an input jack on your head mount in your car that you need the Car Kit (YACP200) to listen to this device in your car. In comparison to the Inno/Helix the only thing that makes this device less than perfect is that it does not have Tune Select (in other words it can't detect other artists or songs on another channel). However, this is okay because if you switch to the other song you cannot record it because of the delay it takes for the radio to detect other streams. In addition, if you live in an area where there are no XM terrestrial modulators the fact that this radio does not have an antenna built in does not really matter because you cannot pick up a signal on the go anyway.
Excellent Radio!Love it!Love it!
I have had a SKYFI2 and my husband has had the Myfi XM2GO.This radio is by far the best of all!!!!I record songs that I love just by a couple of touches of the buttons. So very easy.I thought I would miss the preset buttons greatly, but there is a favorites list that does the same thing.I am thrilled. It is incredibly small yet very easy to navigate. If you are worried about being able to navigate this thing while driving, don't.Just be sure you mount it up high.I made the mistake of having my SKYFI2 too low and it was very difficult to drive while using it.I have not used this out of my car yet, so I can not say how it does.I have listened to the recorded songs and they are several clicks away, but still easy to get to.All in all, I highly recommend and my husband is going to get one too.
Much better than a MyFi...
We used to have a MyFi and a friend purchased a Helix and neither unit is ready to be called "portable".If I have to hold the unit up in the air to get a signal - it's a waste.Since these units don't allow you to wear them and play them (unless you live in NY City), we opted to the Nexus. It's smaller and we don't have to "position" it in a attempt to get a signal. With 50 hours of music, we have lots of content for exercising, hanging at the beach and working.

Not great
I would not recommend this unit. The reception is very poor. I am using it in an 06 car, so the electronics are up to date. I would say it picks up distortion free maybe 20 percent of the time. I had a XM Commander in my previous vehicle, it was great. I think I will get another for my current car.
Drops Signal/Poor Customer Service from XM
We had this radio for about 6 months, when it completely quit working.During the 6 months the reception would go in and out, until finally the radio wasn't transmitting anything. To troubleshoot, we tried the Pioneer satellite radio that my husband has, and it works great in my car. So, I know it was not my car radio receiver or antenna that was the problem.Getting XM to help us with this was like pulling teeth! We originally contacted Delphi, and they told us to call XM.We kept getting the run around from XM for over one month, until they finally told us we needed to call Delphi for warranty refund! A big circular mess...Our opinion is to spend the extra money and get the Pioneer radio.
Great Receiver, East to Install
I've had a SkyFi receiver in my home for over two years now, and am addicted to Satellite Radio -- it's all I listen to now. When we leased a Lexus RX 330 that did not have Satellite radio pre-installed, we purchased this receiver and car kit for it.Initially, I was concerned about trying to install the antenna on the roof of the car (the instructions that come with the kit are necessarily vague concerning how to install the antenna on the car roof, because each car is different).I did not know if I could do it myself, or if I would have to pay a professional to install it.Well, I decided to try putting the antenna inside the car, on the dashboard, rather than trying the more complicated roof-top installation, to see if it worked.I placed the antenna on the dash as far forward as possible, and stuck it in place with a little museum wax.I hid the antenna wire easily in the seam between the dash and the side of the car, and then strung the wire below the driver's side floor mat.It works great!Every now and then, the signal drops off when you make a turn or go under a bridge, but it's only momentary and no different than the drop off I got on regular radio.Indeed, it does not seem to happen any more frequently than in my other car, that had XM pre-installed with a roof antenna. The receiver plays through the tape deck in the car, and the reception is strong and crystal clear digital.(One of the other reviewers complains of poor reception when played over the FM radio -- that is only necessary if you don't have a tape deck, and I haven't tried the FM broadcast signal myself.)All in all, we're very pleased by this receiver and car kit, and wouldn't know what we'd do without it.

Sirius Satellite Radio:Sportster Replay
I love it.Never thought I'd enjoy Satellite Radio so much.My girlfriend has a factory installed system in her Jeep and would rather take my car with the Sportster receiver.Service was great.Received the packages very fast and in plenty of time for our beach vacation.
Sirius is making radio fun again
I don't ever recall a time in which I was so excited about radio.I'm way too young to have experienced the golden age of radio, but the excitement of satellite radio brings images to mind of a time in which radio was something exciting, something to talk about. This is the new golden age of radio.
Won't last - amazing this day and age
I bought my Sportster in December 2005.Here I am 8 months later to tell you that the display light doesn't stay on and flickers.I'm amazed that any electronic component today would have such a short life.It is hot here in Texas, but I rarely leave the power on when I'm out of the car.And when I do, its during short pop in visits to eat or grab groceries.I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the contrast was getting bad, making it very hard to read the display. Now with regularity, the light goes out which makes it impossible to see the display in the bright sun, or darkness at night.I'm getting a replacement, but do not expect it to last more than the first one.The Sirius service is excellent, and I highly recommend it and the type of pause and record features that are built into this radio. The next generation Sportster is out and looks great and also improves on the one thing I didn't like about this model. On the new one, you can program an artist and get the notification beep for any of their songs, not just the specific titles you save on this model. If this model goes out again, I will likely get into the new model and hope for better reliability.

Dual XDM6820: A Dang Good Deal
I too was looking for an iPod connection for my '99 9-3 Saab that was w/o original radio/cd. I couldn't believe the price on this unit but the reviews convinced me, anyway it was fairly easy to install, took me an hour from start to finish. All I needed were 12 solderless connectors and a wire stripper/crimping tool. I've been using the unit for a week now and will agree with some reviews who say the lights are too bright. Great for daytime, way too much for night. I've considered a couple options, one was dark window tint overlays but I've decided to alter the removable faceplate provided with the unit to fashion a cover. I'll slice the FP cover in half at the hinge giving me two covers, some velcro and I'll have a cover that will work at night, set the unit how i like and place the FP cover over it using the velcro to secure. Should be a breeze to do.
Poor Man's MP3/CD player
After reading reviews on this and other products, I decided to go with the Dual XDM-6820. I got it from Amazon for $79 and free shipping. I've been using it now for about a month and have not been disappointed by anything! (I was already expecting the ridiculously bright lights from the other reviews) This stereo has so far been one of those purchases that keeps surprising me with it's versatility and features. I've found that a quick perusal of the instructions was enough to be able to use almost all the important functions: CD playback, radio station presets, radio scan, eq customization, switching between albums on a single MP3 disc, mute, external audio source plugin jack (i.e. iPod or even a Walkman), etc.
Turn down the lights!
I have to agree with other posters here who praise the sound, but can't stand the bright blue lights.

A MUST for trip w/ small children
We bought this unit from Sam's Club right before a trip to Disney World. (8 hours in the car with a toddler--eek!)However, it was/is perfect! We still use it for trips around town when we're in massive traffic or our son is being really fussy. The case that keeps the dvd player on the back of the seat needs a little work, but we figured out a way to make it work for us.Also, the remote doesn't work well, but we don't really need to use it as a DVD usually lasts long enough between stops.
Disappointment at its best...........................
I bought this item for my son for x-mas.We are lucky if we got to use it 4 times before it stopped working.Products this bad should not be allowed to be sold.
5 movies then done- doesn'twork
I recieved this DVD player as a gift for Christmas from my wife. I used it 5 times- done - screen says no disk with DVD in machine. My wife got the ex-warranty through Amazon.com . NO GOOD UNTIL 1 YEAR AFTER DATE OF DELIVERY> THEY HAVE AUDIOVOX as HAVING A 1 YEAR WARRANTY -- AUDIOVOX HAS A 90 day WARRANTY on this DVD. I ASKED for Help ..... NO response. aquaharry
I've had the Roady 2 for about 1.5 years and have been very happy with XM radio performance (I move the unit from car to home to boat) and the performance has been great. My problem with the Delphi Roady 2 is the connections.First the yellow tip in the car DC power connection came off the plug and lodged in the power socket on the radio thus preventing me from using other power connections for home or boat.Delphi advised me to cut the tips off the other power connectors so they would make contact. This worked and put me back in business with all power supplys.Next the line out socket (center connector where the tape cassette adapter and line plugs for other stereo systems plug in) stopped working with all adapters.Dephi tech support informed me that there was internal damage which could not be repaired and since it was out of warranty, I should buy a new one.It seems to me that this unit which initially cost $100 should have lasted more than 18 months.
Need a bit more longevity
I originally purchased the unit during the winter because of a sale, but I didn't install it until the beginning of July for our cross country trip from Oregon to Wash. DC. During the trip, there was quite a bit of interuption from hillsides and tall trees in the Pacific Northwest. I kind of wondered how well the reception would work in the city. Once I got out of the NW, I had no problems picking up a signal unless I was in a long tunnel or deep valley.
Like XM...HATE THE BAD QUALITY OF THE WIRES
I like XM, but I am giving 3 stars because of the cheap wiring. I have had the Roady for about 2 or 3 years now and I am on my 5th set of cables. I handle the unit very gently, but the cables are so flimsy that the wires break nevertheless inside the plastic coating. I am tired of buying new wiring over and over, why can't they make this more durable. Also, I have to use the radio feature the cassette accessory does not work in my car (Toyota Avalon); the unit keeps spitting out the cassette. (The same happened to a friend who drives a Honda Accord) Not a real problem for me since I don't travel much, but it may be a consideration for others, because you would have to find a new station constantly in order to get reception.
