Doesn't last long
I have had several of these units in the past couple of years.When they work, they work great.However, they fail frequently, often after only a few months of use.I have never had one last much over a year.Many of the problems are the same as some other reviewers have mentioned - unit says low batteries, but a change of battery either doesn't help or only for a short while; hard to change batteries; etc.My current problem is the call waiting function has stopped working, although the caller id for the first call is ok.Unfortunately, I cannot find another model that features the call waiting function.

a worthless piece of junk
This is a worthless piece of junk. The three batteries are not held tightly enough in place; they constantly slip away from the coiled spring connectors, and then the unit stops functioning. I've tried everything imaginable to correct this problem but nothing works. It's amazing how a major corporation can spend millions of dollars hiring design "experts" who are so lacking in imagination andbasic engineering skills.

Good little unit for the price
We've had this for a couple of months, and so far it's done exactly what it needs to do.Only two things about it are less than perfect: 1) it's hard to see the caller information in low light, and 2) if there are new calls, a little red light continues to blink until you clear them all out.Overall, though, it's doing exactly what we bought it to do, and is a good value for the price. ... HOW DO YOU RESET THE LANGUAGE OPTION?
I bought several of these since they were inexpensive, although they EAT batteries.Unfortunately, I didn't keep the instructions for setting the language (which you must re-do after changing the batteries).Can anyone out there help me with this?Thanks!

Hard to Read
Quite simply, this caller ID display is too hard to read from any angle EVEN if it has brand new batteries in it, AND the contrast is turned up all the way.The display is just too dim.Save your money and don't buy this one.

Passable product, sham warranty
As with most budget-priced caller ID boxes these days, the display is seriously lacking in contrast, and harder to read than boxes made a decade ago.The contrast control, with about 20 settings, gives you the choice of a too-dark background (showing all 8's) or a too-light foreground.The unit comes with a non-detachable cord, denying you the option of locating the box far away from the jack using a longer cord.The 1-year warranty is nonsense because you must pre-pay a "shipping and handling" charge almost equal to the price of the unit.I wish manufacturers would spend an extra nickel to add two more wires to the feed-through, which would make it possible to use a 2-line phone (although with caller ID only on line 1).Another nice feature would be a way to delete all calls from a specific number simultaneously.Without these features, this Southwestern Bell unit performs its basic function adequately, though not superbly. ... Defective out of the box
The volume control doesn't work (I can't hear the CD or radio) and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. Unfortunately, I bought it as a gift for my Mom who was intimidated about trying to put it together, so when I finally visited recently and set it up for her, my 30 day return policy was way over and I figured Amazon might not let me return it. What a lousy product! DON'T BUY IT!
It's.........Okay.
You do have to have the clock LCD readout at eye level to read it well.The CD player is a bit noisy. Because I needed the items that are in this unit, and since there are so few companies that make a clock radio like this, I chose to go with this one. It could be a lot better, but for the price and size, it's okay. Hopefully Conair will improve the unit in the future.

Overall the product is great, the clock is a little hard to read on my night stand I have to shield it from any light and the directions for setting the alarm a little unclear, but after I figured them out no problems.Sound is good and cd great.The lighting on the caller id needs to be brighter. ... GARBAGE and CHEAP
This video phone is the biggest garbage in the world. I bought one it is a waste of money. Video quality is horrible and cheap!! U will not be happy with this. I also have a motorola OJO video phone. That is much better than this. If your gonna get a video phone get the OJO. The price is higher but the video quality is superb!!

Yes, this machine has a lot of bells and whistles but the sound quality is so poor that I cannot understand a great many messages that are left. That's why I'm looking for a new answering machine. Stay away from it.

We LOVE our "talking answering machine"!
How many times have you been in another room, heard the phone ringing, and thought "I wonder who that is??"-- without having to go and check the Caller ID. Well, with this answering machine -- you can!!You can program up to TEN phone numbers into this machine, with your own pre-recorded announcement -- such as, "This is Mom, calling from her cell phone".So whenever "Mom" calls, you will hear that announcement, shortly after the first ring! This has been so helpful to our family. We have two young children, and we don't want them to answer the phone if it is a stranger. But if they hear the pre-recorded announcement -- "This is Dad, calling from his office" -- then they know it is OK to pick up the phone. I think this particular feature is so valuable. Highly Recommended! Get your peace back from telemarketers!

this thing is great!
I looked and looked and looked!!! for a talking caller id phone when my Ameritech one bit the dust and couldnt find one that matched up caller id with the phone book recorded on the phone--this solved that problem! I can even match up several phone numbers for the same person (cell, home, work)--of course, I have to re-read how to do it, but directions are simple to follow.It DOES NOT announce the name listed on the caller id unless you record it, it DOES announce the phone number--that's the only reason why it has 4 stars instead of 5--but then I dont know if any type of thing like this will do that.

LImited Value
I have a talking ID cordless phone and bought this unit for the presumed advantage of using MY voice to clearly announce the caller's name, instead of relying on the sometimes clumsy pronunciation of the phone itself or providing a name where only a number showed on the caller ID. What a disappointment! Although you can indeed record a name with a phone number, the recording time allowed is SO BRIEF that you have to be a speed talker to get more than two short words in before the recorder cuts you off. As an example, if a call comes in that shows as 'Out of Area" on my caller ID, my phone distinctly says, "call from Out of Area". This device would allow you to record, "Call from out.." and then cut you off if you speak distinctly and unhurriedly! Maybe if you really talked fast, you could get in another word! Secondly, my phone speaks the name/info after each ring. This device only says it once and since it's a VERY brief announcement, if you happen to be just out of earshot when the call comes in, you're out of luck. If the announcement was a little longer, you might at least have caught the tail end.
No Longer Announces Through Handset
I just received unit, it has the exact same model number, but the feature to announce the caller over a phone has mysteriously and silently been removed.The new manual also has removed the sentence saying that it will do this.

Jumbo display works just fine
I had no problems at all hooking up the unit.Total installation time was about 2 minutes, including putting batteries in.Display is bright and readable from 15 feet away.

Initial failure
Hopefully, I received a faulty unit. For starters I had to tug on the connections after inserting, because if left fully inserted they disconnected the phone. After I was able to precariously maintain a connection, neither the names or numbers appear on incoming calls, it is completely unresponsive. The dial stays lighted all the time, which is quite a distraction, so much so, that I've taken it out of service the same day it was put in. I tried other caller ID units in its location to be sure everything else was alright, and the other old units work fine there, with the same cords. This is similar to an Oregon Scientific unit I tried last year that I was trying to replace for some of the same reasons this one has shown. I thought I'd give this a try since the name on it is different, for my wife likes the large screen and readability, but it not working also negates all that. I'm in the process of trying to return this but my several days of inquiry have not yet been answered. Later, Lara Tools working through Amazon gets 5 stars for their prompt attention to the problems of my first unit. Lara Tools did not wait for me to return the old unit, rather, they shipped a new unit along with a mailer for me to return my first unit free of any charge to me. That's service as good as it gets. Time will tell how the second unit operates but be not afraid of Lara Tools or Amazon, if it doesn't work they'll get you satisfied one way or the other. ... Read more

I was rummaging through old stuff at my parents home and stumbled on this item hidden in a box.
worth every penny!
I bought one of these on a lark, not expecting it to live up to expectations. After trying it out, I went and bought one for every phone in my house and bought 2 for my parents as well. Now that I've registered my phone w/ the Federal "Do Not Call" list, I almost never get telemarketer calls anymore, but they do occur.
