You Get What You Pay For...
In this case, I got this free then downloaded the manual from ConairPhone.com.This unit is cheap in both price and quality.It lacks some basic features which other "cheap" models have such as: date/time stamp, selective erase feature, skip a message, save a specific message.This unit, as mentioned previously, ALWAYS requires the user to listen through all messages to get to the most recent.That's if the user has remembered to save them.If the user forgets to press the "stop/save" message button after listening to them, the next call will force erasure of ALL saved messages.No chance of retrieval.I tried the remote operation with my cell phone and was unable to activate the unit, since my phone will not play the tones long enough.This is a BASIC unit.Don't get it if you want a few features; this one can be a source of frustration.

Mine's Been Working Forever
I have no problems with mine. It's been working perfectly since the day my mom bought it and used it for herself years ago (whenever the machine came out). I even got grease on it from cooking, and it still works wonderfully.

Simple, effective, EXCELLENT
It's inexpensive but not cheap. VERY easy to use, even remotely. It's amazing that such a good answering machine can cost so little. The remote operation uses voice commands, so you don't even have to remember the codes, just follow the voice. Great all around

Used for 5 years just having trouble now
After using this machine for about 5 years, I must say I am NOT disappointed.Yes, the display could be lit, but I have not had trouble seeing it.We get many calls each day and use the caller id to screen them, so messages are recorded frequently.
Other reviews are misleading
I was scared to order this answering machine because of the other reviews.After using the machine for a couple of weeks, I understand the problems, but do not find them to be of much concern.This machine is not as intuitive as some AT&T products I've used before, but unless you do something wrong, it is very dependable.I would echo the complaint that the LCD is not backlit, and as I said it is less than intuitive, but overall, it's a great deal.

Spend your money elsewhere
I suffered with this machine for 30 days before returning it to the store.When you read the package it sounds like a great machine with many useful features.And it would be, if the features worked.The whole machine was unreliable - messages got cut off, sound quality was mixed, I had difficulty reading the display, and the controls were a bit too difficult to use. Look elsewhere for caller ID/speakerphone/answerer solution
I bought mine used for a couple of dollars at a rummage sale last fall, and it didn't take long for me to learn the reason behind what seemed like an unbelievable discount: This phone is the only one I've ever had that freezes up (like a computer).When I say "freezes up," I mean that, for example, when reviewing recorded messages, the answering machine will freeze up and I have to unplug and re-plug the AC adapter to un-freeze it.Or when the phone rings, the caller ID will freeze up, and the result is that the phone keeps ringing and ringing and the answering machine doesn't answer.I was willing to make do with unplugging and replugging the power for so long, but enough is enough.At least I'm not the poor soul who shelled out $50 or so on this crash-prone phone when it was new.

kinda petered out after awhile
We really liked it at first, although the sound quality was never really good on the outgoing message or on the recorded messages.But we've only had it for a year now, and have to look at replacing at least the answering machine part.The recorded messages just started sounding quieter and quieter and now they are sometimes not audible at all.Ah, well, just after we bought it those audible caller id phones came out and I was kicking myself that we didn't have one of those, so here's my chance!:-)

Five minutes, and it was installed!
I just had to have a 2 line answering machine, and despite the one negative review, the Casio seemed like the best bet.It arrived, and it was up and running in 5 minutes.It offered more than I expected, and the sound quality is very good. Very pleased

For example, both by phone, and on the face of the unit, it is not easy to erase calls. Totally worth the price
After my old ten dollar (...) answering machine, I wanted something that did not drop messages, had good sound quality and wasn't too expensive. This is it. I read a lot of reviews saying the voice was tinny but I bought it anyway thinking that was a small compromise for all the features. You know what, the voice isn't tinny. It has timestamps which are good, remote access [...], the option to play messages back faster or slower than normal (which is great for when people leave their phone numbers and you have to hear the whole message again). I haven't used the caller id or switchable answering machine message features. The speakerphone works well and I use it often since I still have my college phone whose battery can't seem to stay charged for more than a few hours--but that's another story. Even shows you the day of the week. Just one thing - if you're erasing the last message, press erase before the message has completed or else it will delete all your messages.

Awesome Answering Machine
I purchased this plus an inexpensive cordless to replace my VTech-2960 because, two years after purchase, the VTech turned out to be a costly piece of junk!My kids had this Casio model and were really pleased with all of it's features and its dependability so I decided to get one also.It's great - it has more features than you expect with an answering machine (e.g. Caller ID, remote access, ringer, speakerphone, two outgoing message capability and more) plus it's really easy to program, which is nice for a change! The thing that I like the best though, is the fact that you can program this machine to send the unavailable numbers on incoming calls right to the message center - hasta la vista telemarketeers!No more dashes to answer the phone and then wonder why you bothered.That alone is worthwhile, as far as I'm concerned, but overall I'm very pleased with everything about this answering machine.

reliable if boring
I've been using this machine for a year.I originally purchased it in December 2003, but when I set it up, the phone ceased to work.My roommate and I decided that it was the ancient hardware within the apartment, so we simply didn't use an answering device.I moved in June 2004, and using the same equipment--both telephone and answering machine--it has worked almost flawlessly since it was set up.I say "almost flawlessly" because the only trouble I've had with it since moving is the timestamp.The date and time kept getting messed up, so now I simply don't set it.I believe it was our frequent power burps that messed up the timestamp, rather than the actual machine.I think the machine simply doesn't keep the time in its memory if it's momentarily without power.I haven't suffered from lost messages though, and if I was choosing between accurate timestamps but no messages, or messages with inaccurate timestamps, I prefer what it gives me--messages without accurate timestamps.My phone has caller ID which keeps the proper time, and I use that timestamp when it's important for me to know when a message was left.If that's not an option for you, choose another machine, but otherwise this one is a great low cost work horse.Clarity is acceptable.There aren't many exciting options, but it's cheap, reliable, and compact.I do use the remote access occasionally.It's possible to tweak the options pretty well, even though there aren't many options to begin with.If you want to save a message as new so the phone will continue to pick up after two rings, or your roommate will know to check the machine, you simply have to press "stop" prior to the completion of the last message.The light continues to blink and it behaves as if you'd never touched it.
