Very good, economical receiver
I used this for more than a year and was quite happy w/ the menuing system.It is an affordable edition for a child's or teenager's room and is less expensive than what DirecTV will supply.

Channel switching problems with Tivo
I bought this one because it had the "low speed data" cable which makes Tivo channel switching nice/fast.However, the unit has now automatically downloaded some new software with bugs which makes some of my local channels not accessible.Basically, you can't select some of the local channels by typing them in - only by doing channel up/down.The problem with that is that Tivo "types them in" when you change channels, so basically Tivo won't record on local channels. problems galore
I have had direct Tv for nearly 6 years and had various receivers.All have been reliable and did a good job, but this one.Have had Sharp, Sony, Phillips and RCA.RCA was least responsive.Going through the guide was slow.I was forever changing batteries.With the others I would change them once a year, but with this one it was more like once a month.Had lag time on the local channel, not the difference in speed, but lag...stop and hold for a second on the image.Very irritation.Read more

hook it up today to my 4-th antenna location. could never get all my local hi def channels at this location!well this little gem seems to have solved the problem! tried radio shack & other ampliefing signal products.so far i got to say it works great!

To the person who wrote the previous review. The reason it did not work for your cable signal is because this is for Satellite. It is power by your Satellite. So if your trying to use this for Cable, it will not work.

The Controller universally sucks
Problem one is you need to push the buttons hard.The controller also wears out quickly.The next thing is it won't hold a code for more than a few minutes.I am constantly typing in 1002 for my Sony tv.RCA sucks.Directv shouldn't allow RCA to make products for them.I have three of these pieces of junk.

Completely satisfied
This remote control is identical in look and function to my original, and it was actually a few dollars cheaper than some other universal remotes that may not work as seamlessly with the Direct TV system.It came pre-programmed to control my Direct TV receiver, and was easily programmed (about 3 minutes total) for the TV, VCR, and DVD.Now I just hope it lasts longer than the 14 months I got out of the controller that came with the system.

Not very Universal
The only advantage of this remote was it cam ewith my directv reciever. It has minimal range.It looses all presets once you remove the battery.It does only basic features of other equipment.I also find it requires a heavy hand to get it to acknowledge the button presses!Read more

Good but not great
The reception did seem to improve a bit but the picture still appears grainy when you look closely at the screen or on network stations. The picture appears to have improved more on the cable channels. I think if I connect the amplifier closer to the dish as opposed to closer to the receiver, I should get a better picture. If you bought a high quality big screen TV but wonder why your picture is fuzzy/grainy, this might be the answer for you. I thought the satellite was the problem and I almost got digital cable which is much more expensive. I am glad I found this product first.
