If you're missing calls because you can't hear the phone ring, and if you don't find much comfort in those annoying (and tiny) blinking lights that aren't much help from across the room, consider the Uniden EZI-996. 5-0 out of 5 stars Well-designed phone for the visually/hearing impaired
The phone was easy to set up, with an adjustable ringer and speaker volume control. The flashing red light on top of the phone leaves no doubt when there is an incoming call. Instead of having it on the table, we have it mounted on a slanted platform in the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cordless phone
The was excellent for my elderly mother that has trouble with sight and hearing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cheap Cordless Phone
I purchased one of these phones a few years ago to use in a dorm room. It's perfect -- the 900mHz signal floats below the wireless network interference point, and below the "noise" generated by the new big-box-store off-brand 2.4ghz handsets in surrounding units.
5-0 out of 5 stars What's not to like?
The ergonomics of the handset is good, the base is a nice, small footprint, and at 900 MHz. there's no interference with wireless routers.Of course, the price ws great too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
This phone does exactly what it is supposed to do, also it is reliable and easy to use.It doesn't have a lot of features, I miss my headset jack, but it is well equiped for the price.I would definently by this phone again it was well worth the money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality!
Please do not waste your time with this one.I purchased this phone to use by the pool and was disappointed to find I could not get any reception more than 30ft from the base. What is the point of having a "waterproof" phone if it cannot be used outside? Also, when I was able to receive/make calls, the reception quality was very poor. This phone, although a great idea, is now sitting in the closet collecting dust. I wonder if it's dust proof too?

1-0 out of 5 stars lousy phone
Surprisingly poor quality for a Uniden phone.Volume is very low -- hard to hear caller.Don't waste your money.
2-0 out of 5 stars Can you hear me????
I have placed this phone in many different spots in the house but have found that the reception of the handset is to say the least, terrible. The phone replaced another 900Mhz model that did not have any problem regarding static. Hind sight being 20/20 I wish that I had done a bit more research on this produve prior to buying. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars didn't last
I bought this phone for my son for Christmas less than a year ago. After a few months the time started to speed up without explanation and every once in awhile we have to reset the time back to the correct time, so needless to say it's not very convenient to use as an alarm clock. The phone sounds a bit loud and tinny to me, but my son thinks it's fine. Overall a great concept, maybe a bit better quality would have been nice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dear Still Waiting
Here is is April 25th and we are still !!!!!!!!!!!!! waiting for this product which is "on order".This phone is just what I want and I will be extremely disappointed if (1) GE has discontinued this model and (2) they didn't bother to tell Amazon.
5-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting?.
Well I ordered mine in mid January and now there saying it won't even ship till late March or early April, which I think is unacceptable but what can you do?.Oh well I give it 5 stars for the product itself and from what I've read about but as for service and having to continually wait on it to come in I give the customer service 1 star. Update: I just have learned that this item I ordered is now being prepped for shipment, thank god it's about time too I have waited just under 6 months for this item to ship. Now my order info says it is in the process of being shipped and will be delivered here at my house on the 3rd of July. Finally YEAH!!!. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Decent enough
Its vertical design is well-suited for crowded nightstands and desks, and I haven't noticed any problems with its range and reception. The phone, however, feels very flimsy and hollow. Its bar-of-soap design discourages long conversations. My biggest complaint is that there is no way to disable the ringer or turn down the ringer volume -- although you do get a choice between two awesomely annoying ringtones. Considering what I paid for this phone (single-digit), though, I can't gripe too loudly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive with a few problems
The phone looks fine, doesn't take up a lot of table room, and the battery life is fine thus far. However, it is a little uncomfortalbe on the ear and the signal gets weak at certain places in my 900 sq ft apartment. Not huge problems if you aren't on the phone for hours on end. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Generally OK
I have owned 3 of these phones for over 2 years. They were very reasonably priced and have worked OK for the time I have had them. Last week we had a power outage. After about 10 minutes I decided to phone a friend and found all three phones were dead. Something about the outage discharged them immediatly. This is not acceptable & even though they recharged I am now looking for new phones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good basic phone
Works great and is at a reasonable rate. Would recommend for basic use, although for users needing speaker phone and mute options, this may not be it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Very Good

I got this phone from Walmart for around $14, about 7 months ago. It does the job well, and I've never had a dropped call.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Phone
About six weeks ago I purchased this phone to replace one that was probably 15 years old. I paid $9.99 for it at Big Lots and have been satisfied with it so far, but for ten bucks how can you go wrong. It sounds good and is nice and clear. So far I have no complaints.
3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Phone for the Money!
I recently bought the GE 900 MHz phone for like $15 bucks. I mean for a 15 dollar phone you really can't go wrong.. This phone has a 10 number storage feature and a on/off button on the phone for the ringer. Overall this phone is pretty nice but I think GE needs to do some adjusting with the sound. When you talk on this phone you can't hear what the people are saying hardly. But other than that the phone is awesome. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not too impressed
I'm disappointed with this phone. The sound is hollow, kind of static-y. Even with the volume turned up to the max it is sometimes hard to hear the person you are talking to and I have never had a problem with other phones. I'll probably buy another phone. The ring is annoying too.

This phone had all the features I was looking for, I thought. However, when I received the phone and hooked it up, the time display is not illuminated! How is one supposed to see the time? The other problem was that the alarm clock does not work.Additionally, the radio is tuned by a dial, which is old technology.I will be returning this item and continuing my search.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone except for one problem
This is a great phone. It had all the features I was looking for -- 2 lines, conf, call waiting, call id, transfer, mute, headset jacks, volume, ringer on/off.The only problem is that you cannot turn off the ringer on the handset. If your talking on one line and another call comes through on the other, it rings loudly in your ear.I called Tech Support and you cannot turn this off -- only to hi or low volume (and 'low' isn't that low).If it weren't for this, I'd recommend it highly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend it
After less than one year, I am shopping for a new phone. The handset does not work anymore.I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem but it wasn't.When I click on one of the lines, there is either no sound at all, no dial-tone or anything OR it is just static and fuzz.2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good desk phone!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I had a Panasonic 900Mhz phone before that worked great. I got rid of it when we bought our multi phone Uniden 2.4Mhz phone set. Only to find out that the 2.4Hhz phones distroyed the signals for our wireless network and wireless security cameras. That was too bad because those phones worked great. So we bought this phone and the extra phone they offer with it because I knew the frequency wouldn't mess up our other high tech goodies. First off, these two phones don't "talk" to the base unit, only the one that came with the base unit does. This means you have to run another phone cable to the extra phone for it to work. Also they pick up a bunch of ambient noise through the microphone. I find myself standing in the closet to block out the sounds in the room ( TV, fan, other people talking...). Well, I no longer have the interference problems but boy, did I every get what I paid for...very cheap phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY!!!!
I purchased this phone back in January of this year.I died in June!!!The company wanted me to pay for shipping to have it repaired.Since it only cost around 25 dollars, I just went and purchased a different phone. It is pretty bad that it did not even last a year!!!I have had Vtech phones before, and they have worked pretty well for me.Stay away from this one...it's a lemon!

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I purchased this phone as a primary answering machine in my home based on my two previous Unidens that I loved and have come to regret it.It's a flimsy machine with poor audio quality. What drives me nuts is the volume - I can barely hear others, but when I speak I feel like my own voice is blasting my eardrum. If I decrease the volume I have a hard time hearing the person on the other end - increase it and I have to hold the phone away from my head when I speak.Nowhere near the quality of the other (more expensive) Unidens. It was so cheap I didn't get around to returning it to Amazon.Oh well, lesson learned. Now I'm going to buy a Panasonic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars unbelievably good value
I can't imagine what caused all the negative reviews on this site. After giving up on several other phones, including Uniden's own 5.8GHz phone whose signal won't penetrate even a single wall, I finally decided to return to el-cheapo 900MHz, nice-long-wavelength analog technology and I was so glad I did! I bought one for myself and tried it, then I bought another for my daughter in college, and now I'm going to buy a third one to replace another inferior 900MHz unit I own (another brand). This unit is crystal clear, it has incredible range, and neither of the two units I bought has ever failed in the year my family has owned them. Two of them work fine in the same house (they don't interfere). And the headphone jack, which is very important to both my wife and me, works great. Most units have speakers whose impedances are mismatches for most headsets, and so you get good volume in the handset but terribly low volume in the headset. Not so with this unit - it sounds great in both the handset AND the headset (headset is NOT included). And on top of all that, the answering machine works great and it is very clear and easy to use. I couldn't recommend this unit more! And it's so inexpensive!

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of static
The phone has too much static unless you're sitting right next to the console, in which case you might has well have a corded phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst battery I have ever seen

2-0 out of 5 stars fair to goodwhile it lasted.
I have had this phone/clock/radio for a few years now and was, at first, happy to have one item replace two on my nightstand. It worked okay at first; though the radio reception wasn't that great, I mainly used it to wake up so that didn't bother me too much. Then the phone became contentious; mostly when calling out, I could hear the person on the other end of the line but they could not hear me.It seems there is not another all-in-one like this so it looks like I will have to buy two items to replace it - when I get around to it.

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone has got a problem!!
I just have to say that exactly the same thing happened to me. After 12 months the phone just stopped working where I could here the person on the other line but they couldn't hear me. Thank goodness Frontgate gave me my money back.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wish it still worked!!!
I bought this clock-radio-caller-id phone about two years ago.Found it at Costco....It's worked fine until a couple of weeks ago.Seems it's exhibiting the same problem that others have noted, mine just took a little longer getting there.I can dial and hear others just fine, but the person I'm calling cannot hear me.I liked the phone so much (before it broke, of course) that I decided to replace it with an identical one.The only place I could find it is at Frontgate.com.... Then after reading the reviews listed here, I've decided to pass on an exact replacement.Perhaps I'll find something with a more dependable history, even if I don't like it as much.Bummer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally found all I wanted in a phone when I bought this....
I was realy looking for some specific features in a phone and was frustrated until I found this beauty. Either they had some but not all the features I wanted or added features I didn't want or need. I wanted a corded phone because I found that reception with a cordless was so bad in my basement apartment and hated the cordless batteries that always seemed to need to be charged too much. Then again I wanted a cordless for the convienence but I also wanted a speaker phone for those long "on hold" calls. I especially wanted a phone that had a back-lit caller ID display and I did not want an answering machine as I had voicemail through my local phone company. All this seemed like a tall order and of course I didn't want to spend $100's of dollars. This phone met all these requirements and more at a great price and the cordless part is static free with a long battery life. This is my only review I've ever written but I felt I just needed to. This phone is awesome!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Deal
I purchased this phone because we have a limited # of phone jacks in our home and I needed more phones than I have jacks. So far, I have been satisfied. The only 2 things I have found that I don't especially like are regarding the cordless phone. The volume is extremely loud and find myself constantly trying to turn it down although it is on the lowest setting. Also, it takes much longer than any other cordless phone I've owned to charge. However, it has sat off the charger for 2 days and was still able to be used.Over all, a good deal.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very decent phone
Basically, this is a very good phone with a lot of features. The only thing that I found annoying is that when you use the cordless, the sound is not very crisp. Also, the battery doesn't last as long as I thought it should. You have to recharge it for about 12 hrs; meanwhile, my Panasonic only has to recharge for 4 hrs. The reason I bought this phone is you get speakerphone, corded base and a cordless all for the price for one. As far as my experience with cordless phones (I have a Sony, Panasonic and a GE), Panasonic is the best.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Started giving problems within a year
I too faced similar problems. Within a year, the display went bad and now nothing is visible on the LCD. Does anybody know what the problem is? Does it mean, that we need to throw off this phone?

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent phone- bad display
I've owned this model for almost two years now.The receiver works fine- reception isn't a problem. However, as others have written, the digital display started going out after only a year.It has gotten progressively worse. At this point, the caller id is completely useless- can't even guess at what the number is since just about NOTHING shows up.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not pleased with this product
Everything worked fine for a few months, then it became difficult to hear the other party on this phone.Soon after that the Caller ID information became garbled then nonexistent.Shortly thereafter the phone stopped working completely.I thought it was the battery but when I purchased another one it still doesn't work. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I got this as a gift and I feel bad that they wasted $$$
Phone broke after minimal use.Not a good shop phone. The other reviews say it all.Stay away.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Design, Poor Reception
I value the Amazon Product Reviews and have purchased many items based on customer feedback.I purchased this phone from Home Depot for $69.95.I am returning it today. It is to large for comfort, the reception is bad, the letters too small for those of us who need reading glasses... I could go on.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not loud enough for a shop phone
I got one of these (the Sears Craftsman version) as a gift, so the price was right- otherwise I'd say it's overpriced.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Awful Little Phone
This really is an awful little telephone, and while I know that almost every electronic item has at least one hellacious review, in this case I pray that you believe me. Now, I recognize that this analog cordless is presented as a fairly basic item, but as a form of communication I can only rank this telephone slightly above the game of "Telephone."
4-0 out of 5 stars Sounds great although caller ID is hard to read
I tried a number of phones before this one including some of the highly-rated Panasonic phones and this one sounds the best by far.Very clear at both ends of the line with little or no interference. The only negative I can see is that the caller ID is not very bright and is difficult to read.Other than that, it's great!I ended up buying a second one for my bedroom.Recommended overall.

4-0 out of 5 stars its good
I got this phone after my other GE phone's keys just stopped working. You had to press the button and hold it down for at least 10 seconds before the number would come up. But so far this phone after about 6 or 7 months, has been really great. I have only one complaint. The keypad doesnt light up at night, so it's sometimes hard to see. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for the price
We got this phone several years ago when our last cordless died. When we got it, it came with a second handset and charger base that you can put anywhere, without needing a phone jack - very handy! We keep one upstairs and one downstairs, even though they do get switched quite a bit. There's a nice variety of ringtones and volumes, which is helpful.I like the "page" button to help locate a lost phone. We've had no static or lost calls, I have even used it in our backyard. The only place we don't get great sound is the basement. These phones have stood up to all kinds of abuse, including my baby using them as chew toys - still work great. We have had them at least 2 years, probably longer and haven't replaced either battery yet.We set them on the chargers at night, though occasionally they get left off until they beep from low battery.

I am very disappointed in the quality of this model.I purchased two, and I'm returning both.Coverage is poor, and CID does not work in all outlets in my house.Very strange.Uniden customer service pretty much confirmed that this model isn't very good.I'm much more satisfied with my Panasonic.I'm going to order a couple more of them to replace the Unidens. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for....
I bought this phone because I wanted a cordless phone with an answering machine (all 1 unit) for my kitchen, but I didn't want to spend very much.Well, with the answering machine, itis very difficult to understand the messages.I have to listen to them from the handset. And the clarity in the handset is awful! Not only is there an echo of my own voice in the earpiece, but it picks up every little sound from the room and amplifies it.It is also very difficult to hear the person on the other end.But what should I have expected from a $13 phone.(Of course it was $30 when I bought it.)I should have just waited and spent the extra money on a better phone as now I am on the search for a new better quality phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars liz
if you have friends who leave real long meassages on phones and you would like to avoid this this phone would be great it consistantly cuts people off after 5 or 8 words and the sound quality is pretty poor.the volume is usually so low and you can never tell how many message you have or erase a skipped messsage you have to hear all your annoying message first. I just bought this a couple of months ago and am now planning on replacing it.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's a fine phone, if you don't need your messages.
This is a typical, low-cost phone, and it works about how you'd expect. The signal doesn't carry strongly through 4 walls -- whatever.Read more
