4-0 out of 5 stars Surprised sound quality.
Pleasantly surprised with the sound quality in such a small and light device. Earbuds just so so. (Use my own superior earbuds, so it's okay.) The FM tuner reception is not that good, that's why the four stars. Bought this manufacturer-refurbished for about $50. Spend an additional $27 for an SD 512 mb flash memory(512 mb works in the external memory slot!). The software works well with my Windows XP/Windows Media 10. For less than $80 I get 640 mb of total memory, more than enough for what I need.

1-0 out of 5 stars Better hope nothing breaks cuz you'll be buying a new one
Rio no longer supports this model and the Sports case is cheap and breaks easily. Once it breaks, you are out of luck because Rio only carries replacement parts for their newest models. Do yourself a favor and buy something dependable with good product support such as Ipod, Iriver, or CreativeLabs..Leave Rio alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
I've had my Rio for a couple of days now. It's been working great. The bundled software is not all that great, but if you have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 then you can use that. The player has good sound and is really durable. The armband took me a minute to figure out but everything works great. The internal memory is a nice starting size. I was able to fit 54 tracks on my internal memory (64Kbps - WMA format). I bought a 128MB card for $18 and that works perfect and now I have over 100 tracks on my player. I've been hearing that the player can handle cards up to 512MB despite what the specs say. I haven't tested it so it's still a rumor to me.

In conclusion, for the price this player is a very good buy. I use it when i work out and the armband is a nifty way to keep the player close but out of the way. I'm not sure is the USB interface is version 1 or 2 but the interface is really quick. When I update my track listing it takes about 1 minute and a half to transfer 54 tracks to my player. Check the Rio site frequently for firmware upgrades. When I got mine i had to upgrade the firmware which is a sinch and take about 30 seconds to do.

Just to add, many have complained about how the player tends to slip out of the armband when you move excessively (ex. Running or jogging). I have to say that I use my Rio everyday while running and have yet to have it slip out of the armband. I run just like everyone else, and wear it while playing basketball also and it has not fallen once. ... Read more

RipFlash PLUS 128MB Digital MP3 Player with Voice Recorder
    by PoGo! Products
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $189.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The RipFlash PLUS is a first-of-its-kind Flash-memory-based combination MP3 player, MP3 recorder, and voice recording device that actually turns analog audio into high-quality MP3 data--without the need for a desktop PC. This means it's possible to record directly from any audio device, such as a portable CD player, record player, tape player, or even radio, into the RipFlash's 128 MB internal storage. It has a Smart Media Card slot for additional memory, and you can also upload and download MP3s traditionally, using a desktop PC and USB cable.

Quick voice messages are a snap using the recorder's internal microphone. A high-quality stereo microphone (not included) will suffice for recording anything from live music to training seminars. The recordings can be played back through the onboard internal speaker, through the included earbud headphones, or through any home or car audio system using the appropriate cables.

The efficient WMA format provides over 30 hours of voice quality or up to four hours of near-CD-quality music. RipFlash can detect the "gap" between the tracks of a CD when recording, so each song on the CD is saved as an easily identifiable individual MP3 file. The unit is supplied with earbuds, a direct recording (line-in) interconnect, a USB cable, CD software, and an arm band/belt case. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Windows-Only, Faulty Software
I bought this gadget to record school talks. I'd bet Pogo
is full of good sound engineers, but not-so-good software
    ones.

    Pros:
    - good voice recording quality, even in bad environments
    - relatively nice user interface, once you learn it.
    - resistant (I don't use it that much, though)

    Cons:
    - it's Windows only. I don't really understand Pogo's decision
to make their own driver. The only interaction the gadget
needs from a computer is uploading/downloading files. The
evident solution is to make the device an USB drive. Instead,
the RipFlash obligues you to install (faulty) software,
while precluding its usage from Macs or open-sourced OS.
    - software is faulty: when installing the driver, you should
expect your PC to crash. Reboot and things typically will
    work, curiously.
    - AAA batteries is the wrong solution. I'd love to be able to
recharge this gadget from an USB plug.
    - when running out of batteries, it should alarm you. Losing
part of an important talk because you didn't realize the
batteries have just died is a terrible experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product and unsophisticated interface
Functioning as it was intended, as a recorder and player, this product is OUTSTANDING. When recording, one has to remember that the sound level that one is putting in is the one that one gets out: so when using a microphone in the "line-in" -- one has to make certain that one is using a mic (which PoGo sells -- an excellent one at that) which has an adjustable sound sensitivity function. I used RipFlash Plus, with the mic, to record speeches and the sound quality and clarity is really astounding.

Where this product loses a star is in its user-friendliness: it is not a product which shines as something which is either elegant or intuitive (much like a Mercedes motor in a Model T Ford). And with a little bit of patience and ingenuity (such as renaming files using Windows, outside of the software interface), it is definitely a product which one can work with. I highly recommend it for someone who wants to do what it really shines at: recording into Mp3.

There was one reviewer who spoke about converting the Mp3 files to WMA files for saving space -- but at equal bit rates, the WMA were actually LARGER -- besides which, most techies will tell you that when converting from one compressed format to another, one is going to lose quality

BTW, have a look at PoGo's site and you will be surprised at the pricing advantage there

1-0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
I received this product as a Christmas gift. Less than 6 months later, the case began to crumble. The device was never dropped or abused in any way - quite frankly it was only used 2 or 3 times to record attached via line in to a sound board. I had been really impressed with the product until having to deal with Pogo Tech support regarding replacing the item. I was basically told I was a liar and the damage would only occur if the device was abused. I was talked down to, demeaned and they refused to budge on a $15 repair charge. I do not recommend purchasing a product from Pogo unless you consider it a disposable product, not an investment. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It was ok in the beginning then broke down
I was in the gym and it went on and then off. I then proceeded to try to turn it on and it did not work. I didnt not even try to fix the product b/c I read all of these awful reviews on amazon. I personally just went out and bought and iRiver iFP-890. I read the reviews on amazon and it was quite helpful. Again did not buy anything that is made by Nike Phillips b/c it seems to me it just doesnt work and it is a waste of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not made to last.
It busted after about a year's worth of average use, both the unit and the headphones shortly thereafter. But when it did work, had decent sound.

I bought this player and it's great.Easy to use, easy to install, easy to maintain.Sufficient space for running and excellent armband.Do not listen to these other idiots.

4-0 out of 5 stars why i like my lyra
I got my Lyra for Christmas. It doesn't hold very many songs but if you buy a SD memory chip for it, it will hold a lot of songs. You can just down load a bunch of songs you like and down load them on the chip and wollah. The head phones are good but there not that durable but the mp3 player is very durable because I have droped it a few times and nothing at all has happened to it.So you might want to buy a spair set of head phones just incase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the top quality, but still decent...
As a first MP3 player (purchased just for the heck of it), this tiny little thing really isnt too bad.I paid about $80 for it at WalMart in June of 2004, and it worked for a good 9 months before beginning to give me minor problems.A rough landing on a schooldesk turned it off, and the headphone jack began to perform strangely, sometimes only playing through one ear, sometimes two. This problem is temporarily fixed by wiggling or rotating the headphone plug an inkling.

I never had a problem with the battery cover, and I never use software that comes with flash devices of any kind (just drag and drop in XP), so no complaints there. When this device was purchased, newer models were not available, but at this point I would reccommend to get the sturdier RD2010 instead of this one.If you must get this one, it can be found on EBay for relatively cheap (and you can know whether those work or not), as can most low-end MP3 players.

All in all, not a bad choice, but there are better ones. ... Read more

Creative Labs NOMAD MuVo 128 MB MP3 Player
    by Creative Labs
Average Customer Review: 2.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics (15 November, 2002)

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Combining a high-quality 128 MB MP3 player with a compact USB hard drive, Creative Labs has created MuVo, a logical step in hybrid portable devices.

MuVo is compact (about the size of a cigarette lighter) and lightweight, and it stores images, Web pages, and other documents, in addition to your MP3 files.

Installation is a breeze. Simply plug the MuVo into a spare USB port and your PC recognizes it as a mass storage device. No drivers are needed, although the unit does ship with some drivers and a special formatting tool. Transferring files to the unit is as easy as the installation: Just drag and drop files into the player and you're set to go. Once you've transferred data or MP3 files, remove the MuVo from your computer and slide it onto the battery pack. One AAA battery will net you up to 12 hours of power.

One problem we found was that because the unit doesn't ship with a cradle or USB port extension cable, we had to go around to the back of our computer every time we wanted to insert or remove the device. This isn't a problem if you have a USB hub or are using the MuVo on a laptop.

Although slightly more expensive than a mass storage device of comparable size, the MuVo is ideal for those wanting a compact, versatile MP3 player. --Martin Snelling, Amazon.co.uk ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Nice To Have
This has been working great for me. The headphones aren't the best so it sounds a whole lot better with good ones. Once the USB stick has been formatted on a Windows machine, files (audio or other) are easily transferred using a Mac in OSX. Having the removable USB stick to transfer files between computers is a huge bonus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awww...c'mon...alive and still kicking

5-0 out of 5 stars How to get it working again!
True, this little guy freezes from time to time when you forget to dismount it properly (NOT creatives fault!). It's pretty easy to reformat if you people who say it's 'broken' used LINUX and not windows! Simple as that guys - no need to bother with with wasting your money on repair costs. Unbelievable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light and powerful player
I'm really impressed by the Rio S50, its light weight and powerful output is unmatched by any player on the market.I paid $90 dollars for the unit and $75 for a 512 mb memory card. With the onboard 128mb ram, 640mb ram total I was able to store approximately 10 hours of music all for about $165.This is impressive considering prices almost a year ago.The audio quality and the units 5 band adjustable equalizer, matched with a good set of headsets (Koss 'The Plug' earbuds), deliver superb bass and crystal clear highs without any distortion throughout the entire volume range; you'll never get caught short of audio quality (something to take for granted nowadays with most units at this price.) The S50 will never seriously compete with the more expensive units such as the ipod in storage(the ipod is basically a hard drive.), although the s50 may be more rugged. However, if you're measuring light weight vs. quality, ruggedness and storage size vs. price the s50 is definitely a way to go.The s50 is my champ in the light weight department, with no moving parts except for the on off switch it's a reliable companion on just about any trip or climate.I wouldn't hesitate to throw it into my backpack or luggage for a week-long outing. You may want to bring along an extremely light-weight FM/Am radio, though; On the rare occasion when I did want to listen to the radio, I never picked up any stations reliably. This is truly an mp3 player enthusiasts unit.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Company!!!
Bought one of this company's mp3 players and I lost my cord which connects it to the computer. I ordered a replacement and waited WEEKS to get it despite the next day air priority shipping. For over a week they showed that it was ready to ship, but they still didn't send it out. If you buy this item, pray you never have to replace a part!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great player, poor radio
The performance of this unit for playing mp3s is AOK. The radio is not good enough, and I frequently find myself carrying a radio in another pocket when I carry the S50. I would love to have the same thing with 256 MB built in--and dispense with the radio if they can't do better than this. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A really bad gift...
I got this player as a gift in February. It didn't work when I got it.It took 2 months for Samsung to return my messages and finally they let me send it back.I got it back in worse shape then I got it in the first place! When I first got it, my computer at least recognized there was a detachable device. Now my computer can't detect it at all.Thier customer service is unresponsive so I finally was able to send it back for a refund. Not worth the money at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars not the best
alright well i bought this guy last year, when it was $180! ya im an idiot-- well this was hte time where we didnt know much about mp3 players because apple just introduced the first one and only 10gb ipod. So i looked at this samsung yepp because it wasnt as expensive as the ipod. I really liked it and it was cute and i loved how it looked. It has a great back lit screen and it is easy to use. It was not worth the money! it is now, since its $70! Ugh i guess i should have waited. Anyways it was not worth $180 because it holds 5 cds. The battery power isnt very good. Another thing is the program it uses. The samsung yepp mp3 program is extremely confusing and i am a computer wiz and i still dont understand it. Anyways its a great little toy. Its mainly for exersizing, when you go out and jog and stuff like that. If i had waited, i probably wouldnt get it today, since the other mp3 players that were $400, decreased to the price i bought this one. Ya its great, but you should wait and look out for others that hold more and that are better quality.

    4-0 out of 5 stars YP-N3OS
The player is great and works perfectly. But the only problem is the software that comes with the player. It was just extremely confusing and i ended up not using it at all. I use the 'copy to cd or device' option on windows media player with the USB port being where the music is being sent and it works so much better. So basically trash the little red disk and do it the easy way. Otherwise the player is great and has crystal clear recordings. Apparently the memory is upgradeable but the manual only states that it's possible, not how to upgrade the unit. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, FATAL FLAW
Any music that you purchase online is sold in secure WMA format, this format will not be playable on this device as it will requireDRM compatible software which it does not have.If you plan on downloading music to listen to from the internet it will not download to your I-Audio.

4-0 out of 5 stars almost a year with it
I've been very happy with this product, BUT recently my presets are lost every time I poweroff. At first i thought it was because the battery was running low, but now since changing it for a fully charged battery, it still returns to no presets level when i turn the unit off. This is becoming very annoying having to set the 5 stations i like to flip through during my workout at the gym. Haven't checked out the manual to see what it says. This might have started when I accidentally erased all the MP3 files on it, but still, i don't see why it would matter with the presets. Just something to be leary of before you buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bundled software converts WMA to MP3
I noticed one reviewer's concerns that the unit does not handle the WMA format.I have the CW300 which is very similar except for its longer battery life.Like the CW200, this comes bundled with JetShell, which converts WMA files to MP3s.So, while perhaps not as convenient for playing WMAs, there is a way to do it (by converting to MP3s before loading the files to the player). Now, if the download service requires that you load the WMAs directly onto the player then you would be out of luck.

I'm rating the product 5 stars based upon the similar CW300. ... Read more
