Great laptop, great linux support
I won this laptop on CBS's The Price is Right, so I won't comment on price. As for everything else, though, I've been very pleased.

Pros:
The Pentium M processor is FAST.I am very happy with this CPU and I feel that buying a laptop with anything else is a mistake.It must run really cool, as the fan is quiet and spends more time off than on.

The ATI graphics are acceptable for general use but not suitable for games.The LCD screen is very nice --- bright, very high resolution.Mine did come with a broken pixel (blue always on) but this is hardly ever noticeable.

The case is lightweight but well-built and sturdy.It looks great.The keyboard is very nice --- I have big hands and I have no difficulty typing quickly on it.The touchpad has some nice features, and though it did seem to stick at first as someone else suggested, that problem seems to have gone away with age.

Best of all: Linux support is great.Whoever implied otherwise just does not know what he is talking about.I use this machine all day every day, and the only operating system I've installed is Linux.There is even support for the function keys and the advanced features of the touchpad.

Cons:

I upgraded the memory to 1GB, and the ATI graphics chip decided to claim 128MB for itself (instead of 16MB).This is not adjustable in the BIOS, and is a total waste because, let's face it, this graphics chip isn't capable of doing anything that requires that much memory.

Summary:

Before winning this I was going to buy an IBM Thinkpad.I can not imagine being happier with the IBM, though.The Sony is a great all-around computer.

Not worth the price
I purchased this laptop. After receiving the laptop I didnt like the frame of the laptop. The bottom of the laptop is not plain with the battery. Andframe looks very loose like if you drop, it will broke. I purchased this with XP home edition. I need IIS server for studying ASP.net, so tried to upgrade the OS to XP Proffessions but it wont work. I lost all the data and format it to the original config. I called the support and they said this for only XP home edition and they dont support any OS upgrades. This is a biggest draw-back. The key board is very bad. You have to press Fn key and press Home key and End key to get the begining and end of the line in a word processor. There is a lot of waste space on the key baord, they should have put the keys normally. While borwsing some times it will automatically go back to the previous page when you are moving the mouse with the touch pad and some times the touch pad doesnt respond which irritates me. And even though it came with centrino sometimes its very slow. With all these problems I dont think its worth the price.

overpriced
I paid about 2 grands for my Z1VA. I admit, its stylish design and light weight played a major part of decision making. However, after I got my laptop and played for 30 minutes, I started to regret I paid too much for it.

First of all, you CANNOT upgrade your OS, you have to stick with XP Home edition which comes with the "recovery disks" you made yourself (9 CDs!!!). If you try to do a fresh install of XP Pro, sorry, the recovery disks won't let you install drivers and utilities to control your laptop. Therefore, you probably can't use your bluetooth, wireless, function keys, and power control tools. This is a really really big problem.

However I do managed to get my laptop dual boot into its default XP Home and Gentoo Linux (with most of devices working), therefore the claim that previous reviewer made about this laptop not working with OS other than XP was not accurate.

In conclusion, this laptop is good enough for common users for daily tasks but probably not suitable for "players" or techies... The bottom line is, this laptop do look really good. ... Read more

Early Adopters Pick:March 2003One of the most-feature packed cell phones in the world, the P800 integrates a slick PDA, digital camera, MP3 player, and a MPEG-4 video player into an elegant package.

Sony Ericsson’s long-awaited smartphone is here and there’s no question that the P800 lives up to its pre-release hype. The body is a little clunky for using the phone features, but the bulk can be excused when you consider that the P800 integrates a tri-band GSM phone, Symbian-based PDA, digital camera, MP3 audio player, and MPEG-4 video player into one handheld unit—and does it very well.

At first glance, the P800 appears to have a small screen and few features besides dialing and viewing your call list. However, flip down the translucent blue plastic keypad and a full 40-by-61-millimeter screen with a loaded menu is revealed. The buttons on the flip-down keypad are tiny and difficult to fully depress so we recommend accessing the phone features from the touchscreen with the stylus. This makes dialing on the run more inconvenient, but the touchscreen functionality is much more polished and impressive. For those who prefer to only use the touchscreen, the flip is detachable. A trim panel included with the phone replaces the flip for a clean appearance. Accessing the your contacts is easily facilitated with the jog dial, keeping all your phone numbers quickly at hand.

The P800’s integrated digital camera is simple to use—just aim the CommuniCam at your subject and press the Cam button on the right side of the phone to release the shutter. Photos can be assigned to a contact in the phone book; doing so will enable picture caller id for incoming calls. Images can also be sent to friends’ email addresses or phones that are equipped to handle images. In our tests, e-mailing an image to our laptop was instantaneous. This smartphone’s 12 MB of internal memory can store about 100 photos at the best quality level (640 x 480) and double that for lesser quality photos. An additional 16 MB removable Memory Stick Duo ups the ante, providing additional storage space for more pictures, data, and applications. Max resolution on the CommuniCam is 0.3 megapixels, and it lacks a built-in flash. However, it’s great for taking spur of the moment shots or close up images. In comparing images taken with the P800 against those taken on competing camera phones, we found them to be a bit more grainy and with slightly less color saturation.

MP3s were easy to load onto the P800 and transfer speed was a few minutes per file—about what we’d expect. We tested the volume on an MP3 of Fred Eaglesmith’s Carmelita while driving on a noisy highway and found that this phone can really crank the tunes. The sound is pretty sharp when using the phone’s built-in speaker, but a little muddied when listening through the included headphones. A pre-loaded video clip showcases the wide range of motion and sound that the P800 can handle. We were impressed with the crispness of a child’s laugh and the boom of an announcer’s voice on a movie trailer. The fast movements in the video clip are easy to follow but, similar to the issue with photos, the picture lacks vivid color on the 12-bit display and is a bit fuzzy.

The PDA functions of the P800 are integrated very nicely. The P800 comes with a docking station to sync up information with a desktop computer, or you can use either the built-in IR or Bluetooth connection. Resting the phone in the docking station took a bit of practice, as the phone rocks back into position. There is a convenient notch to store the stylus in as well. The calendar, task list, and jotter are easy to populate using the excellent handwriting recognition tool, or a virtual keyboard as an alternative. We were able to write notes and schedule appointments pretty quickly with both. Installation of the included software suite was straightforward and successfully synched information between the phone and our laptop. The PC Suite software only works with Windows 2000, Me, and XP so Windows 98 users will want to wait for an update before purchasing this smartphone.

The P800 has a multi-functional browser that allows Internet access and supports e-mail and MMS. A button on the right side of the phone gets you right to the browser and while connection time is not swift it’s comparable to that of competing phones. There are four games included with the phone: Chess, Solitaire, Men In Black 2:Alien Pursuit, and Stunt Run. The first two are basically what you would expect, and the second two are pretty capable Java-based shooting and driving games. The large touchscreen lends itself very well to this application, and many more games & applications are available for download via the Internet. Additional P800 goodies include support for animated screensavers, 10 preloaded wallpaper images, and 16 rich polyphonic ring tones.

This phone is designed to appeal to the business set, but the ideal owner for this phone will be an early adopter with a craving for the latest elegant innovations in smartphones.

How We Tested Battery Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phonebattery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables,including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency(including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, andbattery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handsetmanufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings,they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer tothe times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery liferanges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience atleast the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital andanalog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, asanalog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone.Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to themanufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phoneon, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and,when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook.When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when thephone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped thecalls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately andcontinued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged thebattery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength,this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting thatseveral phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers'ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established acarrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone everyfew hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out.Since no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing and because thephone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, againassuming consistent carrier signal strength.

Good phone, average PDA

I have had this phone for about a year and a half.I bought it because I didnt want to carry a phone and pda in my pocket.The phone is good, as good as any other phone.With a handsfree, the volume is excellent but without the handsfree, not so great.Reception wise, its good but not as good as most Nokia phones. I know a friend who lives in a remote area who has trouble with it but doesnt have trouble with the Nokia phones.

The best part about the phone is the ability to write on the screen - better than the Palm pilot series - i have got so used to writing on the phone that i can write almost at normal speed.I just use my fingernails to write in fact.

The cover of the phone is problematic - the buttons on the phone numbers are hard and not so easy to press.the cover rests on the sides of the phone by two little knobs that jut out - these have broken off twice - the cover then doesnt work because the buttons are no longer aligned with the touchscreen - i know a friend of mine had the same problem.

The camera is easy to use but Im not sure who wants to have a camera with this kind of resolution - its good for kicks and if your somewhere and absolutely have to capture something and dont have a regular camera handy. For the business user, cell phone companies should drop the camera from the phones.

The syncing with outlook is a major problem - when i synced it, all 2000 odd email addresses on my outlook loaded here - though i have bought extra storage, the phone takes about 5 minutes to load if its switched off and put on again.

I have not figured out the email and Im not sure I want to install it if the address book syncing is any indication - i would love to have a blackberry type facility with new emails coming into the gadget automatically but im worried that if i sync the emails, several thousand emails will land into the phone and jam the thing.

I enjoy the writing on the screen bit and the pda functions - i can have a huge address book and can dial or message out from the contacts folder.

the sms facility is wonderful - I can store over 5000 messages whereas with most regular cellphones, its about 30 or so.

Overall, if (a) you want to have a phone cum PDA; (b) are not interested in accessing email the way it works with blackberry; (c) want to write on the screen rather than use miniscule keypads; then this phone is worth it.I would rather however look at Sony Ericson's later offerings and see if they provide the blackberry facility.

The phone is great but T-mobile service area is lacking
I have had this phone for roughly 1 year. I find the phone to be a very good phone and a average PDA. I enjoy many of the phone features such as bluetooth which works well with the jabba bt headset and outlook synchro. The ring associations with contacts I love and I also use it to retrieve smtp email. All of which work flawlessly if I am in a Tmobile area.

I highly recommend this phone or the upgraded P900

What a phone!
It almost has it all. I like the cam, PDA, the browser, MP3 player with the unlimitted storage space thanks to the Duo Stick. When I finish palying with all the toys that this phone has, I simply download more fun things from the different vendors, like a video capturing software, TV remote control, unlimitted games, etc. The only 2 weaknesses in this phone are the price and the key pad, but it's detachable. ... Perfect gadget for enthusiasts
I had this PDA for almost two years now and it still works properly except that it's internal memory falls short compared to other PDAs. Most of it's people seems to complain it's battery usage especially when operating cameras but if you make your backlit screen minimal as possible, then the camera will last longer even with the flash. I do that all the time and usually gets me 50 shots with flash if used continuosly without quitting; quitting so would make results for your battery life different. MP3 works great but you'll need to format your mp3s to atrac3 using sony's software since all it playback is atrac3. I also recommand that you get at least 256mb of merory stick pro for this one; that way you can backup lots of data in case your pda screws up and also to store some video clips, games, works, etc. If you want to playback mp3s, buy the standard magicgate merory stick fot it; only those can playback atrac3s. This pda can access most of webpages too as long as it doesn't eat away too much of merory space. I hope this review helps some of those who wish to use it's built-in camera very efficiently because I know I did.

A small PC
It's very hard to rate this handheld because it's not really a PDA.I've owned it for 2 years and hardly use it.Everything has been pretty much said and fairly accurate.It's a great handheld for those who travel and want instant internet access on a great screen, without carrying a laptop.My previous PDA was a palm (which promptly died at the 1 year mark), and it was with me all the time because it was so portable.My low rating is really from my annoyance that it's too bulky and heavy (yes, it is like a brick) to be "worn" in that way.The best thing is definately the screen, it's very bright and everything that you tap on responds instantly.Big minuses include the lack of memory, terrible battery life (one picture with the flash is all I got before it drained), and the expensive sony peripherals.The stylus is situated in a horrible place that it slides out easily and I've lost one every few months (and I hardly use it).The camera lens cover slides open easily.There aren't any good form fitting covers for this thing other than ones that look like a pocket book. The camera and built in mic aren't bad.It has a nice set of utilities.It's great for someone on the road all the time and lives out of a briefcase or bag.

a piece of junk
Dont ever buy this product. It comes with a packet of junk softwares. Take for example audio player. It can only play files which has a frequency of 44.1KHz and data rate of 96kbps to 128kbps. However there are some awesome products out there, but since sony doesnt provide their API, these products dont work for nz90.
Battery life is terrible. Even when your battery is %80 percent charged, you cannot use flash to take a picture. I think with fully charged battery you can only take 5 ( yes it is 5) pictures. Then your battery is totally gone.
There are so many negatives for this products that I can write 5 paged on that!!!!
Exteremely disappointed user of nz90.

Go iPod...
This is the 6th month with (or was) my Nomad Xtra. I absolutely loved the product and it was totally worth it... until now. I remember correctly that I didn't drop it even once, and I went extra protection for my Nomad. The cover kept popping off but I didn't care, putting it back on wasn't much of a chore. But the headphone jack went awol and I was in the middle of a song when it went totally blank. I thought it ran out of battery until I realized that I left a few minutes ago fully charged and ready for my day. Then I went everywhere online to see what happened and saw countless ppl with the same problem. I was sad. I lost hope in the product, I even tried calling customer service who advised me to "stick my headphone end into the jack and wiggle it violently" or "bang the jack against the wall." it scratched and scraped my player but i just wanted it to play. After a month of grueling I pondered whether to pay 175 bux to fix a product that wasn't really reliable, or buy an iPod 20GB. I went with the 20GB and to say it still hasn't had any problems. Go iPod or Dell, iRiver at least. Save yourself while you can.

Heavily researched all of them, VERY happy with my choice.
I spent about 8 or so hours online researching all the mp3 players available.I was looking for a 20 or 40 GB player, but ended up getting the 60GB because it was only about $30 more than the 40GB.

Every mp3 player has its pros and cons, I can live with the 'cons' of this player, no problem.I chose the Zen Xtra because:
1-It has the most bang for its buck..

2-It comes with a battery that you can replace, Ipod doesn't and neither do some of the others.

3-It comes with volume normalization, others don't.I have obtained mp3's from all over the place, and some are way louder than the others, this will set them all at the same volume.

4-You can buy a car DC adapter, some others don't.

5-The sound is very crisp...I did buy some $30 headphones, and the sound is fantastic.But even with the earbuds that come with it, the sound is still very good and crisp.

I don't know why people complain about the software, I'm no computer person and I figured it out in no time.It's a bit bigger than the Ipod (and they say you can't run with it), but it's not crazy big at all and I don't run with music anyway.My carrying case (included) has a window for the screen and I've had absolutely no problems with the player.The battery life is about 8-10 hours, depends on how much fiddling you do with it.

Other than that, all I can say is that I'm very happy with this product, no question.I picked it up for $279 at buy.com I think.I would highly recommend this to anyone.

I am seriously considering buying the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 60 GB MP3 Jukebox, but I could not deal with not being able to have my music organized by album with songs IN THE ORDER THAT THEY COME ON THE ALBUM. Can it be possible that they designed this product with no way to have your songs stored in the correct order by album?
Someone please tell me there is a way to have songs organized by artist with all songs from each album together, in the order they are supposed to be!?!

Handheld scanners are a convenient way to get printed text into an editable format on your computer, but the best devices are prohibitively expensive. Wizcom has bucked this trend with its aggressively priced QL-1000, which has more features than some products that sell for twice as much.

In our tests, we found the interface tough to learn and navigate, and editing text that's stored in the pen was a chore. However, with practice, we were able to scan pages of text with great accuracy.

An attractive feature of the QuickLink is that you don't need to hold down a button while you scan text. The device can "see" text and automatically activate the scanner when text comes into its field of view. Then, you only have to roll the pen smoothly over the line you want to capture and lift it off the page at the end of the text line. The optical character recognition (OCR) engine then translates the scanned images into editable text.

The QuickLink was as accurate as any similar device we've tested, but still far from perfect. The OCR process also took longer than it did with other products we've tested in this category. Still, these minor deficiencies are more than offset by the device's useful software tools, which, for example, let us send scanned Internet links directly to our PC's Web browser and quickly create an address book by scanning business cards. The QuickLink is less expensive than many of the products it competes against directly, making it a great buy if you need a handheld scanner. --T. Byrl Baker

It works, but very slowly
I bought and used the pen for a while just to see if I liked the system.It does work as advertised, but it is too slow to really be of any use.A better choice would be to save the money and spend it on omnipage.I priced things after using the pen and realized that I could buy a better scanner 9x12" with omnipage for under $90.Even the lite version that came with the scanner is better then the pen. I was able to resell the pen to someone else since I had no use for it.

Throwing money away
This is one of the worst gadgets (if you could call it that) I have ever bought in my life. It is totally useless. Yes, I could scan, but I have spent 5 hours trying to get it to communicate with my computer. The program does not even attempt to communicate. I am now sending it back. You would be better off throwing your money out of the window. At least someone could pick it up and use it for something worthwhile.

Device Fine, Software lousy
I found the scan effectiveness worthy of praise, but trying to get the content to my laptop unbearable. The software wouldn't install well or access the scanned text on my Win XP laptop, or my Win2000 laptop, and when I went to my old Win98 laptop it worked fine...albiet with a lame interface. And then, when I deleted the desktop software from Win98 system, the OS got smeared and now only fires up in "Safe Mode". Beware Other DVD brands
Although I really enjoy my camcorder, I have learned that only Sony DVDs work well with this camcorder.You are able to record on other cheaper brands, however, if you use the Image Mixer sofware (which comes with the camcorder) to edit abd re-burn DVDs there are compatability problems between other brands.Furthermore, the Image Mixer software is limited, elementary and not user friendly.Their customer support is pretty worthless as well.I would still reccommend this camcorder - but beware that some editing and recording features will only work with the expensive Sony DVDs.

Bought to record new born, but no recording media avaliable!
Watch out before you buy this or any of the other Handycams. At the time I am writing this, no stores have the 1.4GB dvds that they use to record. Even Sony doesn't have them. Make sure you can find a supply of thier recording media before you buy any of these products. I bought the Sony DVD-100 and I am stuck. The Handycam comes with 1 DVD-R so when that is used up your done. Think about this before you purchase a $1,000.00 camcorder that you will be only able to use for 30 mins until more disks are available. A fact I wish I was aware of while I was making my decision to purchase it.

cheap dvd disc that works on dcrdvd300
I just wanted people to know that you can use a non brand name disc instead of the costly sony ones.I buy mine at shop4tech.comit only cost 3.60 each instead of the 8.00 ones at the stores and sony.com .just search for mini dvd for camcorders and they have three brands to choose from.Could someone email me at courtnhu@aol.com on how to print still images without buying a photo printer, for ex. bringing it to the photo store for printing since it does not come with a memory card. ... Canon's PowerShot range of cameras has always been strong, and the PowerShot 400 continues that tradition. The 4 Megapixel Canon PowerShot S400 digital camera is capable of taking still images at 2,272 x 1,704 pixels--enough for a good quality A4 print. Resolutions go down to 640 x 480 for images you might only want to look at digitally. You can also capture video at 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 pixels.

The camera is very small indeed--smaller than earlier PowerShot models, and is easily pocket sized. There is what at first might seem a bewildering array of buttons around the casing, but in fact these provide excellent one-button-press access to most of the most used features, such as the 3x optical zoom which goes up to 11x when combined with digital zoom features, the macro mode, settings for the flash and self timer. For more advanced features like changing the shutter speed, which it is great to be able to do on a digital camera; you do need to delve into the LED a little further, though.

Images are stored on CompactFlash card--the largest image can be a couple of MB in size so you'll need to think big when it comes to CF card size with this camera. The battery is removable, and a spare to carry in the pocket might be a good idea.

Canon supplies a range of desktop software for viewing, editing and making use of your digital images. As with previous PowerShot cameras, one of the tools works with the Stitch Assist mode on the camera itself in the production of panorama shots. Stay Away from Canon PowerShot S400
I have had this camera for about a year and a half.The first problem occurred about 6 months after purchase.The connection on the camera was no longer in good shape.The only way that I could download was to use a card reader.Next, after another couple of months, a screw on the tele-photo switch broke causing difficulty in using the tele-phone switch at all.I had to hold down the switch every time I used it.Then, it started burning out batteries.I ended up having to buy three additional batteries.One burnt out the second time charging it.Next, after about a year and a half from the time of purchase, the card error problem occurred.It destroyed several 256 cards and it was no longer working as a camera at all.For $500 plus another $300 in extra cards and batteries, the camera is completely dead.Canon has not been responsive.It is obviously a "dog" as so many customers have complained about the same problems, especially the problem with fouling the memory cards.This is a complete failure in quality control on the part of the manufacturer (Canon)and a complete failure on Canon's part to back it up.For as reputable a company as Canon, it is a complete breakdown of confidence.They should be ashame of themselves for making this, for selling this and for not backing it up.So many have lost millions of pictures.

Memory Card Error
My camera has died because of the memory card error too!I read back through the reviews and most were positive until Summer of 2004 when the memory card issues started popping up.It seems a bit suspicious when everybodies camera works so well at first and then dies immediately without warning???Seems like a Canon problem to me too.Programmed to stop functioning at 18 months after first use?

Memory Card Errors
Do a little research on this and its successor, the S410 before you buy.My first year with my S400 was great.A little after that, Istarted to get Memory Card Error problems.At first, I tried reformatting the CF card using the camera, which sometimes worked.I then replaced the CF card, and that worked for about 2 weeks.I Googled Canon S400 memory card error and found lots of other S400 owners with the same problem.The fix I hear about most is using a USB card reader to reformat the card in FAT format.I've tried that, but the CF card still needs reformatting every now and then.So as it stands now, I can get the camera to work if I reformat the CF card, but I just can't tell when it's going do deal me another Memory Card Error.Totally unreliable. ... Best machine
I bought this unit about a year ago it has performed like a sony should a bit pricey then compared to others now but the fun aspect of a portable dvd player slashviewer is phenomenal!I rate this product 5 stars because of the ability to change screen
modes for what or how you care to watch it small big etc and it's ability to play with extreme quality no kidding it will rival all if not most other units plays well on it;s output to other video sources!so cool factor it's surround sound is uncanny and when plugged into a stereo it's ability to output digital & dts is very good good separation spatial effects excellent.good buy!

Sony dvp-fx1 9/01
I had just purchased this tiny piece of electronic wizardry from sony. after playing it for awhile, i found a few things that could have made this machine nicer, lets start with sound quality, it could have been better. 2 earphone jacks would have been nice. the brightness switch doesn't seem to change the picture too much, after all, it is sony's first attempt at a portable dvd w/monitor. so we all know they'll improve in all aspects of this machine. one last note. It was quite pricey....

my favorite toy
Listening to cd's is awesome with the surround sound switch (especially with sony's "studio monitor" headphones which are excellent), and I thought the picture was really good EXCEPT when watching a movie that is NOT enhanced for wide screen. This causes the picture to become blurred and unwatchable as you adjust the "screen mode" to zoom in to spread the information out to fill the screen.

Watching 4:3 (standard TV size) pictures is a breeze because there are "black bars" are on the sides of the picture instead of the incredibly irritating "gray bars" that many 16:9 (wide screen) TV makers have opted for.

I give this product 4 stars mainly because of the speakers. They're very easy to blow if your watching a movie scene that is quiet and then suddenly loud. If this happens, you will notice a slight puncture wound in at least one of your speakers. A fault that I've noticed in more than one of my sony products that really do have the best images possible, but are not-so-hot when it comes to the speakers attached to them. I usually listen with headphones anyway.

Plane trips are one long movie now, they could put me in a piece of luggage with this thing and I wouldn't care. ... Read more

Bang For Buck...
i got this player 2 years back from singapore where its sold as DNE-611 and i have no regrets at all,this player simply rocks.i have used the player extesively for jogging and have not had any problems with song skipping and not to mention the radio reception which is pretty good.This player is top notch as far as build Quality goes and would recommend this player.I dont use the atrac format although its a superior format and saves space,I'd rather burm my mp3 cds than convert them to atrac and use them...I saw a reviewer saying that he is reducing the rating by one star as its made in malaysia,this is stupid coz sony manufactures in malaysia and so does AMD,Intel and the most electronics manufacturers...

Good CD Player, But Has Some Flaws
I recommend this cd player. One thing that irritates me is when I burn an MP3 cd, it ocassionaly comes up with the song ID and then doesn't play it. It then skips to the next song. Another thing that irritates me is when I place an MP3 disc into the cd player and close the lid, it takes forever to load the disc, and it makes a lot of noise while it's doing it.

Best CD player i've had!!!
I bought this Cd player, not knowing what it had. I knew it had a player,radio,weather,and TV, but there is a feature thatmade me love this thing. The feature is the Atrac3plus. It lets you put on like 500+ songs on one cd, all you need to do is download it on your computer and put all your cds and mp3 stuff on one cd. Its awsome and no one really cares or trys it.
Well besides that, this player is awsome. It like I said, has a cd player,radio,weather,and TV. Its also a mp3 player. This player has such clear sound, I heard things I didnt hear on my old panasonic. It also has 3 different bass choices, none, medium, and alot. It of course has the different modes like shuffel, repeat, etc....It has 3 different displays, normal, wich is how much time the song has beed paying, Time left, and the song # out of all the songs. It also has a jog dial where you just spin the dial and push in to choose a song, and it helps when you got 200 songs on one cd so you need to use it to look for your song. Also you can turn of the player and it will go to the exact spoyt where u stopped.
The only probably is that when you pause it, it makes an annoying beeping sound, but i got used to that.

Hindsight is 20 / 20
I purchased this item as a gift for a friend. I admit, it has great features, namely, it'sportable,It has TV / Weather broadcast capabilities, and its a Sony.For the most part it is a great item, w/ great sound....BUT....it is not very user friendly. The buttons are too close together. The display is way too dark when you are trying to tune in a station, but even more importantly, the display letters are so flippin' small, you need a magnifying glass to see what it says. (which mode you are in)Not one of Sony's well thought out products. Definitely not up to their name. If you don't have 20/20 Vision--Don't buy this item!

Very good tape player/radio
I received this walkman for Christmas, and so far I am really enjoying it.The reception is very good, and the sound is clear. The bass boost is strong. The TV band goes from Channel 2 to 13. I've never had a TV walkman before, and it was fun to listen to PBS or a soap opera while taking my lunchtime walk. :) The last portable stereo I had had a very loose, floppy type belt clip, which I hated.The belt clip on this one works well.

The reason that I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is that when the batteries are low, the unit just turns off.I would prefer to have it give me crummy reception until I get new batteries, but maybe that is just my own personal preference. ... Read more

Early Adopters Pick: March 2003. As theworld's smallest video-game platform, the Game Boy Advance SP is also the first to use a built-in rechargeable battery.

Many decried the original Game Boy Advance's reflective LCD screen and its reliance on external light sources. The Game Boy Advance SP's main feature--optional backlighting--fixes this complaint nicely, but it's the wealth of other features that makes this system so surprisingly good.

At first look, you might think the SP is a sleek travel alarm clock. When closed, it's just as tall and deep as the original GBA, but only half as wide. Due to its clamshell design, the screen is always protected from everyday scratches. A small button in the center of the console turns on the backlighting element for use in low-light situations, like in a moving car.

Game Boy Advance angle diagram The SP comes with a well-designed power adapter that recharges a built-in battery; its prongs fold in for easier storage. Our informal tests found that it takes about four hours to fully charge (you can even play it while it's plugged in and charging), and the battery lasts about 11 hours with the backlighting constantly on--your results may vary. Using the backlighting less often will conserve battery power.

Withseparately soldcables, you can connect the Game Boy Advance SP to other GBAsfor multiplayer gaming (above) or to theNintendo GameCube(below) to access secret levels, exchange data, or use other specialfeatures that vary from game to game.

The quality of the backlighting is very good. It's bright and clear when looking directly at it, but degraded from other angles. This is only a problem for friends who are watching the screen from over your shoulder.

But size, power, and affordability do not come without trade offs. There's no headphone jack here, though Nintendo promises an adapter. The system isn't very loud at its highest volume, and the sound can be turned down to socially acceptable levels. The L and R shoulder buttons are a fraction of the size they were on the GBA, and thus are harder to hit. Also, the reduced size of the SP is slightly less comfortable for adult hands than the GBA, but perhaps more comfortable for smaller hands. The cartridge port placement on the lower part of the console is fine for GBA games, since they are flush with the console body, but older Game Boy Color carts will stick out in a way that takes some getting used to.

Open it up and the hinge will seek out a preferred, pre-set angle (about 150 degrees), though you can open it a bit wider or narrower for your own comfort. The hinge stands up well to lateral pressure, and over all, the SP seems just as rugged as its predecessor--which has proven to be very rugged, indeed. --Porter B. Hall
