Really good, but missing some songs
Bob Marley and the Wailers are my favorite band, and I also like this CD, I just think it's missing some essential songs like "Concrete Jungle" and "Trenchtown Rock", other wise this is a good album featuring some of Bob's most classic reggae.

a good start to the Legend of the Wailers
The music and instrumentation on this disc is unbelievable.I would reccommend this over Legend if you could only buy one Wailers disc for your collection.The set covers all of the Albums from this musical genius' career and really shows why his cd's are still selling 25 years or so after his death.This cd covers more than Legend and in my opinion is better.The booklet tells you a little about each of the albums, so if you like a certain few songs and how they sound, you can go and buy the album and get more of the same type sound.One Love offers a few rare songs like Iron Lion Zion and I Know a Place. Good system, not quite the best
But you can't blame Sony. A vast library of games could be found. Now they've got the new PS2. Slimmer and better than the original PS2. Speaking of original, many games began on a Playstation. Though it has longer load times compared to Xbox, it got a head-start on games. Something that makes it better than Xbox is DVD. Unlike the Xbox, you can play DVDs WITHOUT any extra equipment required. But Sony is like Nintendo and Microsoft, making their games, for their system(why not?). PSOne games can be played on it. Maybe... about 8 PSOne games aren't compatible with PS2. Sony hasn't given in though. It's still the most prefered console.

PS2 overall
For christmas about 3 years ago i got an XBOX well that night when i was playing it something went wrong it told me the controller wasnt plug in when i knew it was so i had to returned it.After that i got a new XBOX and over the time frame i had itkept saying to sendit to microsoft but i never did. so about a year ago i bought a gamecube well that thing just sucked it had no gamesi hated it. so finally about 2 months ago i traded my XBOX,GAMECUBE and GAMEBOY SP in for a PS2.And let me tell you the PS2 is the real deal this thing has so many games has no problems . Every week i go out and buy a new game and the controller is so easy to use. so if you dont know what to buy im telling you i give PS2 4 stars.

A big-budget summer epic with money to burn and a scale worthy of its golden Hollywood predecessors, Ridley Scott's Gladiator is a rousing, grisly, action-packed epic that takes moviemaking back to the Roman Empire via computer-generated visual effects. While not as fluid as the computer work done for, say, Titanic, it's an impressive achievement that will leave you marveling at the glory that was Rome, when you're not marveling at the glory that is Russell Crowe. Starring as the heroic general Maximus, Crowe firmly cements his star status both in terms of screen presence and acting chops, carrying the film on his decidedly non-computer-generated shoulders as he goes from brave general to wounded fugitive to stoic slave to gladiator hero. Gladiator's plot is a whirlwind of faux-Shakespearean machinations of death, betrayal, power plays, and secret identities (with lots of faux-Shakespearean dialogue ladled on to keep the proceedings appropriately "classical"), but it's all briskly shot, edited, and paced with a contemporary sensibility. Even the action scenes, somewhat muted but graphic in terms of implied violence and liberal bloodletting, are shot with a veracity that brings to mind--believe it or not--Saving Private Ryan, even if everyone is wearing a toga. As Crowe's nemesis, the evil emperor Commodus, Joaquin Phoenix chews scenery with authority, whether he's damning Maximus's popularity with the Roman mobs or lusting after his sister Lucilla (beautiful but distant Connie Nielsen); Oliver Reed, in his last role, hits the perfect notes of camp and gravitas as the slave owner who rescues Maximus from death and turns him into a coliseum star. Director Scott's visual flair is abundantly in evidence, with breathtaking shots and beautiful (albeit digital) landscapes, but it's Crowe's star power that will keep you in thrall--he's a true gladiator, worthy of his legendary status. Magnificiant motion picture
This is a great movie. Russell Crowe shows why he is such a great actor here playing Maximus. He carries this movie throughout. You also have great performances from Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Richard Harris, Oliver Reed, and Djimon Hounsou. The action is great, the lines are catchy, and you have a great plot from start to finish. A truly remarkable motion picture worth seeing!

A sword-and-sandal epic!!!
Gladiator revisits the epic genre last seen in Ben Hur and in Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus. Scott's Gladiator successfully explores the formidable savagery of the Roman gladiator games and the ageless and universal appeal for violence.

Having proven his valiant commitment to Rome, the great General Maximus (Russell Crowe) earns the respect of his army and of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Weakened by a lifetime of war, yet conscientious of the brave and noble nature of his General, the dying Caesar decides to appoint Maximus as his successor and bewilders his ambitious and amoral son Commodus. Before the true successor is officially announced, however, Commodus silences his father's wishes, coerces his observant sister Lucilla, rises to power, and condemns Maximus and his vulnerable family. Escaping death, Maximus is sold into slavery and is trained as a gladiator by Proximo, who knows how to exploit the spectators' thirst for violent entertainment, and who teaches Maximus the importance of winning a crowd. Gladiator is the product of the carefully choreographed sword fights, of magnificent set design, especially the reconstruction of the Coliseum, accurate costume designs, and weaponry design. Gladiator captures most of its glory in the heroism of its main character Maximus, the General/Gladiator. The character's strength and appeal derives from a well-developed role and from Crowe's accurate personification and skillful performance.

Gladiator, however, owes most of its success to its clever exploration of the notion of "spectatorship". By providing violent images of the gladiator games, the film portrays the Roman crowd's thirst for violence while simultaneously confronting the film's spectators with their appeal for screen violence. In this manner, Gladiator connects the violence of the arena with the violence of the screen and establishes a common ground between the "Roman mob" and the "movie theater mob". Consequently, Gladiator manages to lure the viewer into reacting as the Roman crowd does, ultimately rejecting the villains and sympathizing with the inspiring hero, as the Roman crowd does. All in all, Gladiator is a spectacular film that cleverly uses its poignant images and its powerful characters to create a dramatic story that speaks of the corruptibility of the human mind and the redeeming powers of love and justice.

Historically inaccurate, enjoyable
Gladiator by Ridley Scott won a lot of awards and was praised by a number of people. It is a gritly movie, with revenge, honor, triumph and some decent acting. It is supposed to based on history of Roman empire, but much maligned. A lot of similarities exist between this movie and Braveheart. I do notice that a number of people like both movies, probably due to the similarities. It will easily appeal to people who are drawn to battle and blood sports. Like a number of recent movies, it suffers from a lack of good screenplay. The days of great epics are gone. Many have compared it to Spartacus and found this wanting. I do not concur. Spartacus had spectacular acting and screenplay. I cannot remember any of the great lines in this movie, though it had good graphics.

Spartacus on the other hand had Lawrence Olivier, Peter Ustinov and Kirk Douglas give magnificent performances. Even the lines in the movie are resplendent. That movie has stood the test of the time, which I suspect this will not. People who see such movies would say this is a movie, not a documentary, so it need not be close to the truth. In the past, directors like William Wyler used to Gore Vidal to clean up the script for movies such as Ben-Hur. Nowadays, they do not bother. If something is inaccurate why bother, very few people read about the Roman empire, its rise and fall. All they want is a brief 2 hours of spectacle. I shudder to think that they go back home thinking that what they saw was the truth. This movie had a good score and decent photography, so I give it 3 stars. I can watch a few times, but it falls short of the great epics. The laughable part was an emperor fighting with a general in the arena. I do not know who came up with that, do people who see the movie stop and think for a moment how stupid that is. ... Read more

My first exposure to the legendary, Oscar Peterson.

I had seen this album for months before I bought it. One of the things that attract me to jazz are the album covers. I love the great vintage 50's and 60's jazz album covers. This one is no execption.

Okay, I buy the album, I pop it in. The trio swings on this tune that's been around since the big bands. They're runnin' through it like they have been playing it for years. Somehow, they convert this dance band number from the 40's, into a small trio jazz piece. That is almost as hard as turning, Sing Sing Sing into a small group version.

Anyhow, they finsish. Ray Brown just finishes an awesome solo, and Peterson trades breaks with Ed Thigpen, Ben Thigpen's son, while Brown does his walking bass line.

Going on.
Peterson is choosing the oddest material for an early 60's piano trio. C Jam, by Duke Ellington, D&E, which probaly wasn't even done since 1951 by The Modern Jazz Quartet, is great. Peterson is throwin' out standards and famous jazz tunes all over the place. Bags' Groove all the way!

Ah, this album was great. And with the great bonus features? Ah, it can't get any better. One of the greatest jazz albums of all time. Night Train, a swinging success.

Jazz piano (with bass and drums) doesn't get any better than this.Many musicians I know consider this Oscar's best album.His treatment of the blues is extraordinary, to say the least. It just might make you cry.

Music doesn't get better II
I cannot put into words how I feel about this cd.The first thing that cought my hear was the Legatto (Holdsworthian) guitar solo at the end of Jenny Ledge.I couldn't believe I was hearing this on the radio.I had to hear the rest.

I hear Gentle Giant,Peter Gabriel, John Lennon(Julian sings on it), Pink Floyd, Yes, Steely Dan etc.I think the blend of these and others make for a very original sound.

Ignore the naysayer!
I don't buy music because of hype......I buy it because it moves me or moves someone whose opinion I trust and then explore it for myself.The one-star review listed herein really chaps my hiney, because clearly this is someone who had some sort of pre-conceived notion about what he expected to hear.

Toy Matinee was a creation of more than just technical proficiency....it was the coming together of two totally disparate individuals with a common desire to craft great music.

What makes it great?Aside from the seamless production and the skillful instrumentation, there are thoughtful lyrics, interesting progressions, and a deft blending of pop and progressive rock sensibilities.Songs like "last Plane Out" and "the Ballad of Jenny Ledge" are wonders of groove and texture.

Kevin Gilbert's voice, while not an instrument like a Steve Walsh or Perry, is a gem, rough around the edges and full of passion and conviction.He sang about themes he lived, and for a life as short as his, that was quite a lot of living indeed.

Ignore hype.Ignore also dismissive, cranky, pissy naysaying.

Check it out for yourself......other than Mr. Poopypants I have never heard of anyone saying anything other than, "What else has he done?", to which I then direct them to the excellent Kevin Gilbert solo albums, Thud and the Shaming of the True, his earlier works with Kaviar and Giraffe, and for the curious, the non-Kevin G. album called 3rd Matinee which featured Patrick Leonard and Richard Page (this album is less brilliant but still has some very enjoyable tracks).

Toy Matinee has been for me an album that started me on an entirely different life path, so forgive me if I seem a bit defensive.Kevin Gilbert is an incredibly influential artist for someone the general public knows relatively little about.......find out for yourself!

Do yourself a favor and buy this right now!
Look. Everything is subjective and there is certainly no allowing for taste. But if you claim to like brilliant pop music, peerless songwriting, crack musicianship, taut arrangements, pristine engineering, and that most elusive holy grail of all... something that touches your soul, then you will invest the money and time to give this disc repeated listenings until you "get it"! Most people do so immediately. Some take a little longer. Then there are the extremely rare few who are hopeless and will never understand, and deserve to be subjected to endless loops of whatever it is that they think rocks. HA. Fools!

Led by guitarist (and reactor-coifed) David Hinds, British reggae band Steel Pulse proved itself the musical and socially conscious equal of its Jamaican counterparts in 1978 with the stunning Handsworth Revolution. BUY THIS ALBUM!
As a steel pulse fan, I have to say this is my favorite album from the group. Songs like "Klu Klux Klan", "Medley Medley", and "Bodygaurd" are the best songs on the CD but there really isn't a bad song on the enire album. When I bought the CD I could not stop litening to it for months. Its just goes to show how incredible Steel Pulse is live. If you are a Steel Pulse fan I would highly recommend this album. This is roots reggae at its finest...NO DANCEHALL! It makes me sick that reggae is turning intohip-hop/pop. Artists like Steel Pulse are helping to keep reggae the way it should be.

LOVE IT!
I LOVE this CD.I'm buying a new one today because I lost all my CD's in a fire.This is the only CD out of all the ones I lost that I've even bothered to re-purchase; that's how good it is.Everything always vibes together with Steel Pulse-the harmony between the lead and back up singers, the instruments.It seems like there are no breaks between the songs, it's just one continuous perfect jam.They are excellent live, nothing short of perfection.I've seen them a few times and listening to this CD takes me right back to those shows.This was the first Steel Pulse CD I listened to and will always be my favorite!

ridiculous
Quite simply this is a ridiculous live album. The band is excellent on most tracks, absolutely scorching on Bodyguard, Reggae Fever, Not Kings James Version (in the medley) and a few others. In fact, I have never heard a song that improved more from studio to live than Bodyguard. This is probably the third best live reggae album I've ever heard (behind Bob's Live & Babylon by Bus), and would be a favorite live album of mine regardless of musical genre (slightly behind the Bob albums, Filmore Concerts by Allman Brothers, Europe 72 by Grateful Dead, and Band of Gypsys by Jimi Hendrix). ... Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is less an adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel than a complete reimagining of it from the inside out. InKing's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretaker and provokes him to murderous rage against his wife and young son. Kubrick's movie is an existential Road Runner cartoon (his steadicam scurrying through the hotel's labyrinthine hallways), in which the cavernously empty spaces inside the Overlook mirror the emptiness in the soul of the blocked writer, who's settled in for a long winter's hibernation. As many have pointed out, King's protagonist goes mad, but Kubrick's Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is Looney Tunes from the moment we meet him--all arching eyebrows and mischievous grin. (Both Nicholson and Shelley Duvall reach new levels of hysteria in their performances, driven to extremes by the director's fanatical demands for take after take after take.) Here's.... well, you know
One of two films that has scraed me, The Shining finally gets a digital transfer to be reckoned with. Stanley Kubrick's original, intended ratio of 1.33 to 1 is included here, with a monumental, Criterion-equivalent transfer and terrific 5.1 sound. Vivian Kubrick's made for TV documentary on the making of the film is included along with the original theatrical trailer as bonuses. I guess you can't argue with that. Thanks Kubrick, we'll miss you...

A Masterpiece Of Psychological Horror!
This movie has so much great things... you can go on and on talkng about it.Stanly Kubrick best known for such movies as Spartacus(Kirk Douglas), A Clockwork Orange(Malcolm MaDowell), and Full Metal Jacket(Matthew Modine).Definitely giving us the best horror of the 80's I would say.
You pretty much have a family watching over an enormous gigantic hotel, who like people has its share of secrets over the decades it was built.The darkest of all secrets, a man suffering the enclosed lonesome feeling "Cabin Fever"... when the man killed his family with an axe.Now this tale is just about to be retold with a new killer behind the axe.
Jack Nicholson I would say had his hugest performance ever right here as the most feared father you could ever imagine.Stretching his 13 nominations of movies such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Batman, A Few Good Men, Hoffa, Wolf, As Good As It Gets, About Schmidt, and Something's Gotta Give.Shelly Duvall(Popeye, Roxanne) had such a strong impact as the mother in this film... that as clumsy as she looked, she never once gave up.
The hotel in this movie believe it or not also plays a character of its own.You have those huge rooms and quiet corners that really do fill you with a sense of feeling a little paranoid.You have ghosts such as the twin girls, who for some people scare you more than Nicholson with an axe would scare you.You have other ghosts who are there with no purpose at all, such as the girl in the bath tub... really just there to freak you out.You even have an imaginary bar tender that talks to you, giving you drinks that aren't there... showing you how desperate you can be to talk to somebody under these lonely circumstances.Then you have ghosts like the previous caretaker, the man who killed his family... talking to Nicholson, even unlocking him out of a door later in the film.The most unexplainable and oddest thing also, is the son Danny and his imaginary friend... who shows you things, giving Danny the gift known as the Shining.
The hedge maze and the chilling snow outside are both factors of having you feel trapped and isolated.To really have you want to go crazy out of your mind.And for a movie to give you all of these elements, and to have you actually believe and feel like you're really there... is a successful thriller.
I don't even want to begin telling you how bad you have to get this movie, if you haven't already.By now I think people should be writing review after review about The Shining, to say how crazy of a movie it really is more than wondering how good it is.Whoever hasn't seen this, just doesn't know horror movies at their full potential.Buy it now, it's worth any price.

It's so funny how Andy Sands is bent on negatively reviewing this great film and then he has the nerve to compare it to Gremlins 2. This is the first attempt to consolidate all of Sir Elton's hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would've required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-'70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they're presented here, '80s hits like "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush "The One," and two from Songs from the West Coast, which was hailed as a return to those '70s golden days, represent the later years. Collectively, these tracks reinforce the notion that, despite Michael Jackson's later proclamations, John was once the closest thing post-'60s music had to a genuine king of pop, respected by hipsters and the mainstream alike. --Bill Holdship ... never buy rap
I would never buy a Elton John cd because of the person he is so thankfully my sister bought it for me.I loved this cd.It has 34 songs and that's pretty good artwork on the front of the cd.It is in good condition and the songs sound fine.Elton John is a great singer but i am just so dissapointed in him.His lifestyle is very bad.Keep on listening to great music and start caring more about other people than yourself.

Once Again Wonderful
This CD is filled with all of the songs I grew to know and love. This isn't as good as his 2nd album, but there's no way to beat that. All of the songs made me think "This is one hell of a CD". I loved these songs with the quick wording and thought provoking lyrics. This may be one of the best CDs ever made.

Call Bob Ludwig to remaster this CD
I love Elton John and did not think twice about spending more than 20 dollars for a CD. However, I was very disappointed that for the money and such a well known artist that the record company did not hire a professional to master this reissue.

The levels of the songs are all over the place. I have not listened to it since. I have many reissues and this is the first time that I have been disappointed by the mastering or non mastering of a CD.

It is very hard to reissue an artist whose music spans so many decades...Hence the problem with trying to leave the masters untouched.Depending on what year a song was released will determine how loud it is.

Maybe when I get some time I will remaster this CD for myself, which is what I recommend.Import into your computer and adjust the levels so they are all equal."Your Song" is much softer than some of the other cuts on the compilation.Other than that...I love it!thanks Giorgi B ... Read more

Rainbow Studios created quality dirt racers with its MotocrossMadness and ATV Offroad Fury games. Now it seeks similar success inthe water with Splashdown. Featuring four licensed Sea-Doo watercrafts,nine playable characters, and 18 environments, the game packs plenty offeatures. Add in exquisite graphics, precise physics, tight controls, andchallenging gameplay, and you've got one of the best jet-ski games on themarket.

The game's water effects are simply astounding. This is among the most realisticwater ever seen in a video game. Furthermore, it behaves in such a lifelikemanner that you'll marvel at how accurately it reacts to movement. The detailedand lush environments are located in a variety of regions and cities, includingNice, Seoul, Tokyo, Venice, Loch Ness, Mission Bay, the Nile River, and theBering Strait. While the controls are very responsive, it does take some time toget used to the game's challenges and master its more than 30 tricks. Musically,the game is a bit derivative, attempting to emulate the soundtracks found inother extreme-sports games. And while the game offers some variety in the itstraining, career, arcade, and versus modes, it's disappointing that themultiplayer option only supports two players.

Splashdown is not a perfect game, but it is an excellent title thatoffers plenty of replay value if you have the patience to get past its initiallearning curve. Racin' on the water
First of all, this game is beautiful. The graphics in this game are incredible, and the detail in the water is perfect. Another great thing about this game is it's large selection of tracks that are all detailed beautifully. Some people don't really like the music choices that are in this game, but I didn't have a problem with it. To me, everything about this game is superb.

Pretty water, but is it fun?
Yeah it's pretty fun.

But you know what bothers me most about this game?The trick system.Most of it is just button combinations, like in a fighting game.You don't feel much connection to the buttons you press and what the animations are doing.It feels a little too restricted and just not that thrilling.You can do a back flip but it's really slow - impossible to do two of them in one ramp.As far as barrel rolls, well, there are none.In Wave Race 64, they might not have been a big variety of stuff, but I was actually maneuvering the watercraft in the air.When I would land a double barrel roll I let out a big fat YESSSS.I never say "YESSSS" when I play this game.But yeah, the water is pretty dang pretty to look at.The rider models ain't too shabby either, although they all look pretty much the same.I wish the game had a freestyle mode where it focused on pulling off tough tricks.Even in free ride, I've tried to ramp around but everything seems pretty regulated.Things were in Wave Race 64 too, but all you needed was an imagination as well as a little creativity and you could take that game APART, LOL.But yeah, Splashdown's water is pretty dang pretty to look at.

Another thing is the music...It doesn't appeal to my taste particularly - but that's just me(I would have gone with a more generic aquatic sounding music that anyone could get used to).I wouldn't say that the game sucks for its music though.If you like Smashmouth and The Donnas (which I do not) then you'll be fine.Even if you don't, just turn it down low and it ain't so bad since you're distracted by the pretty water.

I don't want to give you the idea that this game sucks with all my nitpicking.There are a suprising amount of tracks, good control, unlockables, and secret shortcuts.It's worth getting for the price that it's selling at.Oh yeah, and one more thing - pretty water.
