Canon PowerShot S400 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom
by Canon Cameras US

Editorial Review

Canon's PowerShot range of cameras has always been strong, and the PowerShot 400 continues that tradition. The 4 Megapixel Canon PowerShot S400 digital camera is capable of taking still images at 2,272 x 1,704 pixels--enough for a good quality A4 print. Resolutions go down to 640 x 480 for images you might only want to look at digitally. You can also capture video at 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 pixels.

The camera is very small indeed--smaller than earlier PowerShot models, and is easily pocket sized. There is what at first might seem a bewildering array of buttons around the casing, but in fact these provide excellent one-button-press access to most of the most used features, such as the 3x optical zoom which goes up to 11x when combined with digital zoom features, the macro mode, settings for the flash and self timer. For more advanced features like changing the shutter speed, which it is great to be able to do on a digital camera; you do need to delve into the LED a little further, though.

Images are stored on CompactFlash card--the largest image can be a couple of MB in size so you'll need to think big when it comes to CF card size with this camera. The battery is removable, and a spare to carry in the pocket might be a good idea.

Canon supplies a range of desktop software for viewing, editing and making use of your digital images. As with previous PowerShot cameras, one of the tools works with the Stitch Assist mode on the camera itself in the production of panorama shots. Digital cameras get more advanced all the time, but we dare to say that the PowerShot S400 is probably the best pocket sized digital camera we've seen. --Sandra Vogel, Amazon.co.uk ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay Away from Canon PowerShot S400
I have had this camera for about a year and a half. The first problem occurred about 6 months after purchase. The connection on the camera was no longer in good shape. The only way that I could download was to use a card reader.Next, after another couple of months, a screw on the tele-photo switch broke causing difficulty in using the tele-phone switch at all.I had to hold down the switch every time I used it.Then, it started burning out batteries.I ended up having to buy three additional batteries. One burnt out the second time charging it.Next, after about a year and a half from the time of purchase, the card error problem occurred. It destroyed several 256 cards and it was no longer working as a camera at all.For $500 plus another $300 in extra cards and batteries, the camera is completely dead.Canon has not been responsive. It is obviously a "dog" as so many customers have complained about the same problems, especially the problem with fouling the memory cards. This is a complete failure in quality control on the part of the manufacturer (Canon)and a complete failure on Canon's part to back it up.For as reputable a company as Canon, it is a complete breakdown of confidence. They should be ashame of themselves for making this, for selling this and for not backing it up.So many have lost millions of pictures.

1-0 out of 5 stars Memory Card Error
My camera has died because of the memory card error too!I read back through the reviews and most were positive until Summer of 2004 when the memory card issues started popping up.It seems a bit suspicious when everybodies camera works so well at first and then dies immediately without warning???Seems like a Canon problem to me too.Programmed to stop functioning at 18 months after first use?

1-0 out of 5 stars Memory Card Errors
Do a little research on this and its successor, the S410 before you buy.My first year with my S400 was great.A little after that, Istarted to get Memory Card Error problems. At first, I tried reformatting the CF card using the camera, which sometimes worked.I then replaced the CF card, and that worked for about 2 weeks.I Googled Canon S400 memory card error and found lots of other S400 owners with the same problem. The fix I hear about most is using a USB card reader to reformat the card in FAT format.I've tried that, but the CF card still needs reformatting every now and then.So as it stands now, I can get the camera to work if I reformat the CF card, but I just can't tell when it's going do deal me another Memory Card Error.Totally unreliable. ... Canon PowerShot S230 3.2 MP Digital ELPH Camera with 2x Optical Zoom
by Canon Cameras US
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Electronics
list price: $399.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

With the Canon PowerShot S230, you've got the best of both worlds--the compact size and high style of the digital Elph series plus the higher resolution of a 3-megapixel camera. Updating the popular 2-megapixel PowerShot S200, the PowerShot S230 also features a 2x optical zoom, an improved 3.2x digital zoom, movie mode for videos up to 3 minutes, and more--all in a stylish, compact package.

Optics and Resolution
S230's nine-point autofocus lets you sharpen the image on your subject, no matter where it is in the frame.
Featuring a 3.2-megapixel CCD sensor, the PowerShot S230 delivers a wide range of detail and color (with images up to 2048 x 1536 pixels) and prints up to 11 by 14 inches. Canon's high-quality 2x optical zoom lens allows you to close in on the action, while the 3.2x digital zoom allows for a combined 6.4x zoom, letting you capture intimate details that might have been missed with another camera. The PowerShot S230 is also one of the few digital cameras to feature wide-area nine-point autofocus for taking crisp, sharp images no matter where the subject appears in the image frame.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash memory cards, and a 16 MB card is included. When shooting images at the medium or fine setting, the 16 MB card will store approximately 26 images. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB storage-class connectivity, which means it can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the S230 can also record movie clips of up to 3 minutes. You can choose from three different video formats: 160 x 120, 320 x 240, or 640 x 480 pixels. Both picture and sound quality have been improved, and an editing feature allows you to delete unwanted scenes during playback. The S230's photo-effect mode lets you do more with your still images. Choose from low sharpening, vivid color, sepia, neutral, and black and white.

More Features
Though it's primarily designed as a point-and-shoot, the S230 includes several advanced features for photographers who want more creative control, including exposure compensation, low-light manual shutter speeds, manual ISO and white balance, and stitch assist, plus black-and-white, sepia, vivid, and neutral modes.

The PowerShot S230 uses highly advanced technology to make your digital photography experience simple. DIGIC enhances image definition and processing speed, while the sophisticated iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) technology assures faster and more accurate autofocus, autoexposure, and automatic white balance. The intelligent-orientation sensor ensures your pictures are always right side up, on the LCD or even while downloading.

Horizontal

Vertical
S230's Intelligent Orientation Sensor knows which of your images were shot horizontally and which were shot vertically.

Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by a proprietary Canon rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included). It measures 3.4 by 2.2 by 1.1 inches and weighs 6.4 ounces. This package includes the PowerShot S230 digital camera, 16 MB CompactFlash card, lithium-ion battery (model NB-1LH) and battery charger (model CB-2LS), USB and A/V cables, wrist strap, and CD-ROM with imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Have it!
The PowerShot S230 Digital Elph camera is truely a usable camera. The instructions are clear and concise. The rechargeable battery and charger are a perfect companion for this camera. All pictures come out great! It makes taking pictures easy, fun, and compact. I recommend buying a case with too, because it is sooo small! pocket size!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest little camera!!!
What a work horse, plus the great size, just fits in my shirt pocket. Battery life is outstanding, but get a backup, plus this one uses compact flash so I was able to get the Sandisk II 512meg CF card also at Amazon for about $100. It's so good I bought a camera for everyone in my family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
I got this camera after looking around and comparing it with others.I'm glad I decided to go with the S230 for many reasons.

Pro's
Small and can fit in your pocket, great quality pictures, excellent movie mode with sound, comes with battery and charger, not complicated to use, all around excellent camera, and again the 3.2MP makes the pictures very pleasing to the eye.

Con's
Zoom isnt the best buts its alright, it takes good pictures when its dark out but you have to edit with a program such as photoshop to make it brighter. These cons should no way bother you much and should not deter you to buy this camera.

I suggest you buy a viking 256MB memory chip because the one that comes with it will leave you able to only take a few pics. With the 256MB chip you take long videos and take well over 1200 pictures. All in all excellent camera and as usual amazons shipped it fast and got the camera in a few days after making the order.I look forward to buy from amazon and cannon again. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON.COM
Better cards are available from other retailers - just check epinions.com - you will find a whole bunch for $19 or less. Also they deliver, while Amazon does not.The item has label "usually ships in 24 hours", but I have waited 5 (five !) days, and still it was not shipped. Do not buy this card, and check other place than Amazon. The Amazon stinks...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic card - unbeatable price
I bought this SimpleTech card in early 2003 and have had great results with it.I have shot over 34,000 pictures on it using my Canon PowerShot G3.I use it extensively with my Dell X5 PDA.For the last month, I have been using it in my new Nikon D70 (over 5000 pictures so far from that).I originally paid about $60 for this card.

The card has never failed me.I have given it extreme use.I also have a 256 MB Sandisk card (it failed me once, and I had it replaced under warranty) and a 256 MB Viking card.I had read a review that the Viking card may not be compatible with the G3, so I never used it in that camera.I used the Viking card only in my Canon Powershot S400.However I did use all three cards in my PDA and in the S400.I have used the SimpleTech and the Sandisk both in my D70, as well as a new Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB card.

By comparison, the Sandisk 256 MB card was definitely the slowest when performing the same tasks. It could not keep up with mp3 playback on my PDA.It has noticibly slower write times for photos on my cameras, especially the G3. The SimpleTech and the Viking cards perform about the same as each other.Neither has noticeable slowness on my PDA.Photo write times on the G3 were acceptable with this SimpleTech card.It really did not cause a delay in shooting dut to waiting for pictures to write to the card.

Interestingly, on the D70, this SimpleTech card still keeps up well. The D70 has an advanced buffering system that can hold several (about 12 at normal quality full resolution) images while writing them to the card. This is so much buffer that rarely so I have the need to exceed this many shots in one burst. Thus, when I am using the SimpleTech card, it really does NOT slow down my shooting at all.

By comparison, I do notice that the D70 finishes writing pictures to my ULTRA II card sooner, especially after a burst of several frames.(based on the blinking light that indicates CF card activity)I really never have the need to shoot a continuous burst of frames all the way to a full 256 MB card.

My conclusion is that this 256 MB SimpleTech card is just about the best way to go for CF memory currently. It will cost you less to buy 4 of these (1 GB) than to buy one 1 GB Ultra II card. And then, if you have one of these fail, you will not be out of memory at a crucial time - because you have 3 other cards to use.And you would be able to get a replacement for the failed card later at your convenience.

I highly recommend using multiple smaller cards over single larger cards.256 MB is my size of choice, and this is my choice among inexpensive 256 MB cards. At the current price (around $20 at the writing of this review) you can't go wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable and fast
I have been using this 256MB card for an year now on two of my Canon digital camera and a Casio PDA. It has always been reliable and there is no diminishing in storage capacity. Read and write are slightly faster than my San disk 256MB. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Case for people on the go!
I am a professional photographer. The Elph I have is my "play" camera.I got it because of it's size. The problem was it wasn't as convenient as I thought carrying it in my pockets.I found myself leaving it at home.SO>>>
I bought this soft leather case.It is exactly what it is supposed to be for me.A way to carry my Elph on my belt.I forget that I have it on.Until that really cool oppertunity arises.(Which, in San Francisco it does a lot)
The camera is right there at my side.Out in a second.I can take my photo and slip it back into the case with one hand.
Yes, it is a little snug when you first get it.But, this is soft leather and it "grows" with use.Fitting the camera perfectly.
It protects the camera from scratches. But, I wouldn't consider it as a protector, as much as a convenient way to wear the camera on a belt. The perfect case for people who are on the go as much as I am.

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon ELPH Leather Case
This is a cute little black case. My S410 4MP camera fits perfectly in this case (there is no room for anything else, so if you are looking for a camera bag which will fit all your accessories, don't buy this case).

The only down side is the big tacky gold lettering on the case. I wish they used smaller fonts in silver lettering. But it's a good case to lug your camera around in if you go on short trips.

1-0 out of 5 stars This will cover, but not PROTECT,your camera!
This case is effectively just a soft leather sheath. It has no strap or clip--just a belt loop--nor does it have storage for extra batteries or memory cards.

OK, so it's a classy little case, the price is right, and it fits the camera perfectly, but it fails at its basic purpose, which is to protect the camera. There is absolutely no padding or rigidity whatsoever, so when you put this compact little bundle into your purse or pocket, that vulnerable LCD screen remains just as vulnerable.

When (not if) you bonk something against that ill-protected screen, it will crack, and the $100+ repair will not be covered by your Canon warranty.

Ask me how I know this?My daughter, who purchased her Elph with Christmas money and a year's babysitting savings, has had hers for all of two weeks, and it's already on its way to the shop.I might add that this is NOT an irresponsible child, just one who carries pens and a calculator in her purse with the camera.

Avoid a similar scenario and spend a few bucks on a REAL case, please.Canon should be able to do better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY GENERIC, NO MATTER THE PRICE
I've read the other reviews on this item and these people know what they are talking about. DO NOT BUY GENERIC. ONLY BUY CANON BRAND BATTERIES FOR YOUR CANON CAMERA. I've tried the cheapie $5 generic battery, it didn't even last a week. I have also paid about $35 for a digipower which is sold at some stores in place of Canon at about the same price as Canon so you would think you are getting a good product for your money. WRONG! I have had my Canon battery for almost 4 years, and my friend has had one for 2 years, they both work as well as when we first purchased them. The hold a charge for a long time. Just beware when you're looking to save a buck, you'll regret it, I sure did. Having a back-up battery is a fantastic idea, but only if it actually works!

5-0 out of 5 stars good choice
make sure it has canon on it or it will not take a charge as good or last as long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Long Life!!
Like many others, I am constantly worried about having enough battery power while on vacation, and thus, I am always tempted to purchase an extra battery. When it comes to batteries, this one is exception.Extremely light weight and incredibly durable.I took over 200 photos in one day, utilizing my S500's built-in flash indiscriminately. At the end of the day, I still had power left over to spare. But before you decide to purchase an extra battery, you should experiment with the NB-1LH battery that comes with the camera.Purchasing an extra battery may be overkill for your needs. However, if you want an extra battery as a backup, this one is the only way to go.You won't regret it, whereas with an off-brand, you're rolling the dice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for long films and high volumes of photographs.
I will begin by saying I cannot believe the poor quality of the previous reviews, simply atrocious. On to what I hope will be helpful to others.

If you have a Canon Powershot, chances are you will be fine just using the battery.I bought a second battery so that I don't have to worry about running out of power while I'm shooting photographs.

In contrast, I purchased the ACK-500 for my S410 so that I can shoot long films and a high volume of photos without wasting the battery. It is important to realize that the Canon NB-1LH battery has 400-500 charge/discharge cycles (third-party batteries have even fewer).

For most people the number of cycles isn't a big deal. But say you want to shoot 6 hours of film in a single location or you are shooting a ton of flash photos from a single location - doing all this using batteries would become tedious and you'd quickly use up your battery's effective life. With the AC Adapter Kit you can go indefintely, as long as you're connected to a power source of some sort.

The kit comes with a little rectangle that looks like the battery but feels lighter. You put it in the same spot as the battery, then you plug in the AC adapter and run the power cable to the faux-battery (that's what the rubber cover on the battery slot is all about).Setup is a piece of cake and it works exactly as advertised.

The kit is great for some people; I would suggest you buy your camera and use it for awhile.Try to think about how you use the camera and what you want to use it for and then make your purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Não tem muita utilidade

5-0 out of 5 stars Small, light weight and easy to use
This small digital camera is very easy to use and is small enough to fit into a pocket or purse. The owner's manual is clear and the displays are well-designed.If you haven't used the camera for a while, or only skimmed the manual, you can figure out the basic controls fairly well.

The LCD screen is a nice size and gives a clear sharp picture.

It takes approximately 2 hours to charge the battery.

I bought an extra battery and the upgraded memory card.I would strongly recommend getting the larger memory card.I would also recommend getting the AC adapter kit when you buy the camera.Without it, you will be using up battery power when you download the pictures to your computer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, except for ink messages
THis printer rocks. As a PC consultant, I don't like HP PCs because of their software.I have seen them blow up numerous operating systems, plus HP installs software by the shovelful and gives the user no control over if they want it.
This printer has reasonable software, the image quality is awesome, really amazing. The photos compared to my HP 812C are just amazing.Printing on the 4x6 paper it is finally indistinguishable from a real photo.IT is a bit loud, but I slowed it down using the software driver which made a huge difference.(night mode they call it?).Individual ink cartridges will save lots of cash.

My ONLY complaint it that they warn you when the liquid ink is out, but there is still tons left soaked into the fibers in the resevoir.I printed over 100 pages after getting the first message about black ink - getting the dam pop up message every time.

2-0 out of 5 stars DON'T EXPECT QUALITY TEXT PRINTING
Apparently, this printer's forte is photo printing. I made the mistake of assuming it would print quality text documents too, which seems a much simpler task.I am very disappointed in the frequent ink smears, streaks, and blotches on the pages. It takes frequent cleaning procedures to minimize the streaks and blotches.I am incredulous that the ink smears when a highlighter pen is used on the text. This happens on pages with dry ink that were printed many months earlier!Highlighter pens seem to dissolve the dried ink.Periodically, during printing jobs, including the first page, the printer goes through some internal activity that can be frustrating when trying to print something quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars best printer you can get in this price range
I love to print off picturs I take with my digital camera. This one does them professionally and fast.I Love the separate ink cartriges also.I'm blown away with the features. You will love it so don't hesitate, if you need a printer that does photos this one is for you. ... Read more

High speed, sharp resolution, and economical ink refills: Could you ask for more in a home printer? The Canon PIXMA ip3000 is designed with 1,600 nozzles that produce tiny 2-picoliter droplets, resulting in finely detailed images that are worthy of saving in your family photo albums. Pigment-based inks insure colors will stay true, and the prints are resistant to water, fading, and smudges.

Precision Color Distribution Technology
Unlike other systems, nozzle configuration in Bubble Jet printers is simple, so it is easier to make them smaller and more dense. Using its superior semiconductor manufacturing technology, Canon has succeeded in developing an ultrahigh-precision, multinozzle print head. The problem of color inconsistency has been solved by positioning a mirror-image line of 128 nozzles (600 dpi pitch for each color) at a half-pitch offset from the existing line. This configuration also provides the added advantage of enabling high-resolution printing at 1,200 dpi.

Easy-PhotoPrint v3.0
While most photo-editing software applications will brighten the entire image, Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 accurately detects the subject's face and adjusts the skin to the optimum tone. Brighten dark faces caused by bright backgrounds. Choose from one-click automatic to correct the entire image all at once, or manual to correct just a selected area.

Before
After

Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 also lets you select and print any image on your PC, perfectly trim images, correct images using lab-quality retouching features, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin tone, sharpen faces, remove blemishes, and print in a variety of sizes and layouts.

Exif Print Technology
Exif 2.2 is the worldwide printer independent standard for digital image processing. Under Exif 2.2, the digital still camera can record data tags for specific camera settings and functions such as whether the flash was on or off, if the camera was in landscape, portrait or night scene mode, etc. Referencing some or all of this information, an Exif Print compatible application can process digital camera images intelligently based on specific camera settings and the shooting environment.

With resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi black and 4,800 x 1,200 dpi color, your office documents or school reports will look as good as your photos. Built-in two-sided printing reduces your paper costs and allows you truly professional design options.

This printer can connect directly to select digital cameras. Learn more about PictBridge.
Top speeds of 22 ppm black and 15 ppm color (draft mode) will have your pages in hand in just a few seconds; a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo can take as little as 36 seconds--as fast as those old instant cameras, but with much better quality. Thanks to the PictBridge-compatible direct print port, you can connect your digital camera and churn out photos while bypassing your computer system.

The ip3000 is compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems, and requires only a USB cable to get it up and running (cable not included). Canon provides a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I got a printer this good,for so little $!
I bought this printer for the high quality photo printing. When it arrived (in only 4 days using free shipping), I discovered that there was even more to like.

Firstly, it uses 4 separate ink tanks, so you can replace only the color you need. BTW, they work quite nicely with ink refill kits. (This is not my first Canon printer.I keep buying them for a reason!)

Secondly, the print quality is gorgeous. It really is close to the quality of a photo taken with film.On a related note, the cassette is handy for holding my photo paper. This means that I do not have to switch paper, to print pictures; it can just be left there.

In addition, it is whisper-quiet and looks good (People have varying opinions on this, but I like it.) It is easy to close the paper tray, which helps when space is limited. The duplex printing is a nice extra.

I had compared prices on this machine and Amazon had the best price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Canon Rebate Scam
I ordered this printer along with an iBook G4 expecting to receive a $70 rebate for the printer.Well, it took an extra month to receive my printer. Then, they sent me only $20 in rebate.
I called them and asked for assistance but none of their departments have communication with eachother.I've already re-faxed my information twice but the 'override' department can't get those documents from the rebate department. So now I have to spend another $5 faxing the same five pages to the same company.

Don't expect good service from this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer
I bought this printer to replace a Lexmark Z65.The Lexmark brand is crap it cost twice as much as the Canon and the quality wasn't even half as good.Canon puts Lexmark to shame. I tossed my Lexmark in the dumpster, the acdc adapter had melted anyway and I wasn't about to replace it.
This printer is so much faster quieter and has better text quality, not to mention the beautiful pictures it prints out even with the canon software. I can't wait to try it out with Photoshop.I need to buy more canon glossy photo paper. The cost of the printer after $20 rebate on (...)was $45 dollars.Worth every Penny and then some. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Printing professional quality photos from home has become a reality, thanks to easy-to-use photo printers like the Canon PIXMA ip5000. By combining five-color printing and a 1,856-nozzle print head that's capable of delivering superfine 1-picoliter ink droplets (up to 22 million droplets per inch), the ip5000 delivers stunningly accurate prints that should leave professional photo labs a little worried.

Color resolution is as high as 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, with black-and-white resolution of up to 600 x 600 dpi. Print speeds are as high as 25 ppm in black, 17 ppm in color, while a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo can take as little as 36 seconds. The same drive system responsible for the ip5000's improved print speeds also results in a low 34 dB(A) noise level.

Along with a wide variety of plain and photo papers, the ip5000 also accepts envelopes and transparencies. The dual paper path allows you to print two-sided documents or simply store photo papers in one tray and plain paper in the other.

This printer can connect directly to select digital cameras. Learn more about PictBridge.
With its easy-to-use USB port, hooking up the printer to your computer is a snap, while a direct print port allows you to print directly from a PictBridge-compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, with or without your computer. The software bundle includes Easy-PhotoPrint and PhotoStitch. Compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems, the ip5000 comes backed with a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Niceo
There are many things I can say about this printer, but I'm not going to bother.Just buy it.:)

There's no reason not to.It prints documents good enough and fast enough, and it prints photos to the same amount of quality as the originals.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good printer just don't use on Windows 64-bit
What I liked.
Print quality
Speed
Duplexing, wastes less paper looks nicer.
Separate ink tanks - $10-12 a tank, replace only the colors you ran out of.

What I didn't like
No drivers for Windows XP 64, there will be no drivers either. The line I got from Canon USA was buy a new printer. Don't bother buying if you are going to use it on a 64-bit Intel or AMD system, it flat out refuse to work.

2-0 out of 5 stars 2nd best Pixma printer
This one was ranked 7th overall in a recent Consumer Reports issue(may '05 pg.28) and scored only "fair" in graphics quality. It's lower priced cousin, the Pixma iP4000, was ranked #2, overall score in the excellent range and designated as a "CR best buy". The 5000 actually tested slower than the 4000 in both text speed(ppm) and 4x6 time. Admittedly, the superior 9600x2400 res. is impressive as is the 1pl droplet size. The 5 color ink tanks are a bit misleading as 2 of them are black. Canon printers are the best so don't waste money on HP,Epson, & Lexmark.

To the reviewer below that stated that everybody uses 20 lb. paper, I use a "bright white" 24 lb. inkjet paper for everyday use (20 is too thin- better for fax & copy machines). Also, the reviewer incorrectly states the 5000 does not use the two black inks, in fact it uses the same ink tanks with 2 blacks(BCI-3eBK/6BK), just like the 4000. ... Read more

With your Canon digital photo printer, digital camera, and this gorgeous paper, you may never have to use traditional photo processing again. Designed to work with any Canon printer that accepts 4-by-6-inch paper, these borderless sheets look and feel remarkably like the paper used by professional labs--or maybe even a little better. With technical details like a 92 ISO brightness, 10.5 mil thickness, and 17.91 lb. media weight, you can be sure that your prints will show off rich contrast and realistic skin tones, and will never ripple or curl around the edges. Now you can have snap photos that are worthy of framing. Fifty sheets are included in each packet. The manufacturer provides a 90-day warranty against defect. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous paper - Perfect photo prints EVERY TIME!!!
As I write this review, I am using the this Photo paper Plus I bought off Amazon. It is just the perfect paper to compliment your Canon Printer.Personally I have a Canon i860 (just got off Amazon) to replace an older Canon whose printhead died (S900).Once I got my printer, I reprinted almost every photo I have! And what paper did I use - none other than Canon's Photo Paper Plus 4X6 glossy. It has never let me down - and I see absolutely no difference between the glossy and photo paper pro, so why not save $?

This paper is $11.99 + tax in every retail store I visit.I can't believe Amazon can sell it this cheaply!I picked up 4 packs because it's too good of a deal and I know I'll use every last piece of paper.

PROS:
Wonderful prints - looks better than a photo lab in much less time!
Paper is nice and glossy, never had a defective piece.
Colors are true and vivid.
Great price vs. retail.

CONS:
Packaging leaves much to be desired. The outer carton is fine, but - I personally have ruined a few pieces of Canon paper because the adhesive they use to seal their plastic packages attaches to the paper and rips it apart - I carefully remove the plastic packaging and throw it away immediately.

BUY THIS PAPER!!!It's wonderful and inexpensive!Perfect for Canon printers!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very short life
I agree with everyone that this paper produces terrific results initially. If the prints are exposed to direct light for any period of time, serious fading becomes evident (using canon inks in a s750 canon printer). The pictures on my pegboard at work have faded to almost nothing within 3 months.Although I have not tried the photopaper pro, I would not trust this paper for archival photos. For about the same price (and less hassle), I am using online printing from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless and fun.
Before finding it on Amazon, I use to drive 40 miles each way to buy this at an overpriced, overcrowded electronics megastore than shall remain nameless for $12.99 per pack. THAT is how far above this paper stands above everything else that I have tried. The price is great here and if you get quality paper it will reduce the ink money and frustration you would spend trying to get a decent print out of a cheaper paper. Also, the paper is the perfect size, quality, and cost (about half as much per print than a tranditional print) to have fun with. BUY TWO SIDED TAPE and stick these little gems everywhere.

I generally cannot discern the difference between this and the pro paper, and after spending the last decade in the darkroom, I like to think I can generally tell something about quality photographic prints.

I have not had the yellow tint problem that has been mentioned in earlier reviews. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm using this as a textbook in my classes.
I teach digital photography at a community college, both for college credit and in evening adult education classes, and have found this book to be the perfect textbook for my beginner and intermediate courses. The first Overview book is about 82 pages long, and provides a good introduction to digital photography. My students learn a little about digital equipment, how to acquire photos, do simple editing, organize them, and make prints.I generally either skip the second book or assign it for extra credit, because it talks about choosing a camera and accessories, setting up a computer, and working with printers and scanners.

The Taking Great Pictures chapters in the third book are the core of my curriculum for both the beginner and intermediate classes, as the content is easy to understand, explains photographic techniques clearly, and can be applied by any digital photographer. The beginner classes simply receive less challenging picture taking assignments, as they work with composition, close-ups, portraits, and sports photography. They also get a lot of use out of the section on scenic photography, as the landscapes here are spectacular.

The beginner classes stop when they finish the fourth book on the Basics of Image Editing. The more advanced image editing chapters, which use Adobe Photoshop Elements, are reserved for the intermediate classes.I do put both groups to work learning to restore old photos, because everyone seems to enjoy this.

All in all I have found this book to be a wonderful learning tool, and like it better than traditional textbooks for teaching digital photography.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent whether you're a beginner...or not.
This book is easy to read, has plenty of examples, tells you what to do to get good composition, talks about how digital cameras can get great photos, and much more. I have read the "Complete Idiot's" version of Digital Photography and while that book was OK, this one covers more information that I was looking for, particularly how to store and archive/organize digital photos as well as go into impressive detail on a lot of basic photography stuff. While this book isn't perfect, it's very, very good for a beginner to intermediate user and is fun to read. I have learned a lot so far. Also, it helps to have different books to read on the same subject of digital photography and this is a welcome edition to that learning "package."

I've looked at other books besides the Dummies and Idiots guides, and this may be the most complete reference to date for digital photography. There's lots of stuff in the book that pertains to ANY kind of photography. If photographers use the book the way Dummies books are really meant to be used--by turning to the topic that most interests them at the moment, or the part that will help them with a specific (photographic) problem--they'll find plenty of valuable information. One thing they won't find, however, is much about setting f-stops and shutter speeds (though there's quite a bit about the connection between film speed and shutter speed). But then most digital photographers just put their cameras on "P" (for program) and let the camera make those settings for them! While the reading and presentation is easy, the depth of material is actually surprisingly thorough. Beginning, or even some advanced photographers, will be referring to this book more than once, over time.. Hey, where was this book when I started in photography?

5-0 out of 5 stars More like 3 books in 1, but all are good!
This book purports to be "7 books in 1" but that's stretching it a bit. There are actually three solid books within its 686 pages, all of them pretty darned good. One deals with getting started in digital photography, with lots of information on selecting a camera, setting up your computer, getting photos from your camera into your computer, and using accessories including tripods, scanners, and printers. The second book is a thick collection of chapters that deal with basic photography.Beginners will love this introduction to picture taking techniques, with how-to advice on close ups, sports, portraits, travel, and other topics. The third book deals with image editing, primarily using Adobe Photoshop and Elements, but also mentioning some competing programs so you can decide which one is best for you.

All three "books" are very complete and written in the usual entertaining Dummies style. After you've gone through this material, you'll probably want a more advanced book to really immerse yourself further, but I felt that this Desk Reference lived up to its name. It's a great volume to have sitting on your desk when you want to refresh yourself about a particular topic. ...
