3-0 out of 5 stars Good Until You Need Support
I had this device for a little bit over a year, and I like most people didn't opt for the extended warranty. In short, it died as soon as the warranty expired. It's the way hardware is and I'm fine with that, but Apple's support wanted to charge me $250 to have it repaired/replaced.That is almost the same amount as a new one, and certainly more than most of their competitors. When it worked, it was great; a device I truly enjoyed, but once it starts having issues, you better look for another device; Apple wont be of much help you.

3-0 out of 5 stars not so bad
not so bad, good amount of memory, fair battery, decent sound.overall a-okay.problems: battery (not replaceable) & loses charge overtime.Go here for a free 20Gb ipod:

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor compatability for all the hype
While the iPod is great for the amount of music you can store on it, Apple has done a poor job with creating a product that lasts. The battery life is minimal (less than 4 hours and I've had it for less than a year), and it costs you $99 to send your product to Apple to have a new battery installed!I'm told you can change the battery for cheaper yourself, but it nullifies the warranty (and on such an expensive electronic, that is not too prudent). The program Apple supplies to be able to add music to your iPod (iTunes) is also full of poorly-chosen options. It comes with an auto-sync option, which at first sounds appealing, but later proves to be more trouble than it's worth.Having attempted to clear my library in the program, iTunes proceeded to delete all my music & recordings from my computer (many of which I cannot replace). If I were to try to sync my iPod to my computer at this point, the auto-sync feature would replace all my playlists with empty ones. After calling Apple, I found out that there is a 10-15 SECOND window in which I MAY be able to turn-off the auto-sync prior to losing all my iPod files. If, however, I am too slow, or my computer doesn't respond fast enough, I lose everything on the iPod as well.
After all that hassle, the good points of the iPod are it's portability (small size) and it's capacity to hold a lot of music/recordings.I hear there are also some calendar and address book features avaliable to Mac users, but not to PC users. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great guide with cool tricks and haacks
I really liked this book. Ita has lots of cool trick and hacks that I hadn't really heard of. Writing was good, but the best part was learning some cool new ways to use my favorite toy. If you want to get them most out of your ipod this is the best book out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars I picked up info and tips from this book
Although this book was written in 2003 and is more targeted to the beginner, it does offer some things of value:

    - a review of third-party products available
    - tips on ensuring good music quality
    - other tips and tricks you're unlikely to find in Apple's documentation

After spending several hundred dollars on your iPod, I think it's reasonable to spend 3% or 4% of the purchase price to ensure that you're using it optimally.

I don't regret buying this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars 90 pages of information in a 250 page package
Another editorial decision to make a book longer than the subject needs so the book can cost more. Extra 160 pages is uninformed and unqualified speculation about telecommunications and copyright laws, and feeble attempts at humor. Why do people who aren't funny in real life think they are funny in print?

Every second or third sentence refers to "your ipod", as in "your ipod" this, and "your ipod" that, and "your ipod" the other thing. Annoying and weird. Could of used some editing and recasting of sentences. ... Read more

    Secrets of the iPod
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Paperback (26 June, 2002)

    Editorial Review

Everyone loves the iPod (though for a lot of us it's a fairly abstract love, given the gizmo's sticker price). In Secrets of the iPod, Christopher Breen--you may know him from TechTV--does a brain-dump on the latest version of the iPod. His coverage is complete, easy to read, and clearly reflects the personal experience of a man who likes to be able to listen to Monkees tunes wherever he goes. You're sure to learn a lot about your iPod--or deepen your wish to have one--by reading this book.

It's possible to criticize this book for explaining the obvious: No one really needs a tutorial on how to download music from the iTunes store, which was carefully set up to be easy to figure out. On the other hand, such documentation--which may be needed for the sake of completeness--takes up little space next to the many pages devoted to relatively obscure features. Readers get the complete run-down on using their portable music players as spare hard disks, and as contact-management utilities. There's also lots of coverage of third-party hardware and software that's sprung up to unlock additional iPod capabilities. --David Wall

Topics covered: How to use the Apple iPod, iTunes, the iTunes Music Store, and the various hacks that have grown up around the iPod. There's good coverage on hooking the iPod to a Microsoft Windows machine, and some troubleshooting tricks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Make sure you get the most recent edition.
There are lots of good details in this book, which seems to go farther than the missing manual series. The 4th edition (hot pink cover) seems to have pretty even coverage of using an ipod/itunes with Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and Windows XP.After a day examining ipod books in the bookstore, this is one I bought. The 5th edition is out due in December 2004.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for new and experienced iPod users
Five stars; highly recommended. This is an excellent book for new users and experienced iPodders alike because the information is thorough, accurate, and fun to read. The author discusses not only each version of the iPod and iPod Mini, but also includes detailed discussions of accessories, cases, and iTunes. He also includes power-user information, such as setting up the iPod as a boot disk. This leads me to the best reason to purchase this book:time savings. The author covers so much information in such depth and in such a clear and easy-to-understand manner, that almost any reader will save an enormous amount of time as compared to searching for answers about the iPod on the Web.Although this book has been a big help to me with my new fourth-generation iPod, my hope is that Chris Breen will write an updated edition specifically including the Click-Wheel iPod and the latest iPod accessories.

5-0 out of 5 stars The must have iPod Manual
If you can't make it to one of Mr. Breen's iPod/iTunes seminars which I highly recommend, this is the next best thing. Everything you need to know and more about your new iPod. First off, the iPod is a mini hard drive music player run by cool software. It does a great job. It is not a walkman or radio, it is a sensitive appliance. I own two and I found it's fairly intuitive and got it up and running in minutes. For those who want get into the innards, voila! Mr. Breen to the rescue! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is NOT misleading
First, let me say that I own this case for my older iPod and think that, for the price, it is great.Sure, you could shell out the extra bucks for some leather case or something, but I didn't feel like going that high-end.It is a very durable case and the addition of the belt clip is nice (although I wouldn't use this case just by itself for protection...if you want to do that, get the NLO stuff).

Second, concerning what this case is designed for...

If you read their "features" on this case, it clearly states:

"Created for older iPods - a great accessory for earlier models of iPod"

What are they supposed to do?Come to your house and check out what kind of iPod you have? Not only that, but they include a picture as well.Geez.

So yeah, if you have an older iPod, this thing is great. But read the description before you buy!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars What's everyone complaining about? Geez.....
Ok first of all, everyone who's reviewed this item obviously never got past the second grade. People are giving this a low rating due to the fact that its not made for the new Ipod, when the picture of the item CLEARLY shows the old Ipod in the case. So thats not a problem with the product, but with not reading/looking at the description. Also, reviews for a case aren't the forum for reviewing all the digial music players out there so I don't even understand that one.
Second, this is the cheapest Ipod case I could find, so I didn't expect it to be the case of my dreams. But, in fact, I was really happy with it. It fits snug, has a clip (unlike some of the more expensive ones), covers the screen (a big plus and many covers don't have it!), and leaves all the ports accessible. I think I'll rarely ever take it out of its case. One downside, and the only reason it didn't get 5 stars, is that it is a little bulky. The back of the case has a thick pad and the plastic is kinda thick as well. But I would rather it be thick than tear 3 months into owning it.
So, if you want a cheap and durable case with a clip and screen cover, I would really reccommend this one. If you'd rather have something really slim, have a new iPod, or don't mind shelling out the big bucks, there are some super nice cases in the $40-50 range, but not on this site.

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is misleading
Well this rating is more for amazon.com rather then the item it self.I just bought a 10gb ipod, and I decided I should protect my investment. When I clicked on carrying cases, this came up, but apparently this model is only compatible with THE OLDER IPODS!!!I can get a refund, but it is going to be such an inconvenience.Amazon, you disappoint me.Please make a change here as this is misleading to customers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great.. lots of frequencies
This device works great. It is very small, has lots of frequencies to choose from (important if you live in a big city with powerful broadcasts on most available frequencies), has a cool light that lets you know it is working, charges the iPod while you listen and really has no drawbacks. If I had to pick one out, it would be that the cable attaches to the lighter plug from the side so in some cars where the lighter / accessory outlet is tough to get too, you may find the plug to be a tight fit.Not really a problem though.Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great charger for Origional Ipod
I just love this charger for my 20G origional Ipod.It looks great, and is super compact which I love.It is intended for the origional Ipod, but there is also an adaptor avalable from another company to use it with the new style. The cord is great, its 10 foot length is extremly compact due to a tight coil. The intelegent charging is a good feature, and the lights on the charger to tell its state are very useful. The charger also looks GREAT compared to others.I reccommend this product 100%.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware of incompatabilities.
It works just fine with the original, Firewire iPod, but not at all on the newer iPods. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me
For me this has been an iPod essential.I use the remote always.

The remote has been so handy.I can easily access the volume, which I'm always adjusting in seems, depending on the track playing.I can skip tracks, rewind, pause, and turn the iPod on and off.

I can have my iPod in my messenger bag and clip the remote on the strap.Or have my iPod in my jeans pocket and clip the remote to my coat. The hold switch on my iPod is on, of course, so that no buttons are accidentally pressed on the iPod itself.

I've used my current remote for over a year and have never had any problems. It still works perfectly. Then again, I take care of it.Just reasonable care that it not get crushed, wet, or broken.

The design is stunning.Simple and impressive.Looks very sleek and nice.A very attractive remote... shows the world you listen with style.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly made!
I really don't recommend this remote. If you have to have the convenience of using the remote and don't mind spending $80 - $120 for continually replacing the poorly made device. Then go ahead. It's been 4 months for me, and I have to buy a new one. First, 2 months ago, the little switch broke off. Then after learning never to lock the remote, the cord slowly starts to tear from the base where it connects into the ipod. Ok. Then finally after just ignore the little kinks, it starts to send little electrically sparks from the headphones into my ear. I've had enough and now I have to go about purchasing a new one. So don't recommend, unless you like spending money on the same product over, and over, and over again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for people who don't actually want a good remote
Love the iPod. hate the remote.
after 2 years, mine finally broke for good. It had a habit of splitting open for some reason.
My complaint is the general design - that clip.. it barely works unless you are clipping it to thin material. After 2 years of trying to get it to stay on my bag's strap or my jacket lapel, I am frustrated.

I am surprised that no one has produced a better version of it. ... Read more
