4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, But Longevity Not Good
I use this primarily with my ACT! database.Have never even come close to using the maximum memory even with hundreds of contacts and extensive notes. It has served me well for about 2 years; however now the standard plastic screen cover is hard to read through and the machine "resets" itself or locks up requiring a manual "reset" about once per week. For the purchase price I would have expected a much better life to it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying digitization problem
Although I was happy initially with my Tungsten T, I am no longer happy because it needs to be redigitized several times a day.I am a teacher and use it for a lot of data entry, calculation, and organizing and it is time consuming and aggravating to have to double-check all the time to ensure that the correct item is going in the correct field.I was dismayed to discover within these reviews that this is a glitch that is endemic to all model T's.I am even more upset to discover that it eventually just breaks! At the price I paid, I expected to get several years of use out of it.I am hesitant to replace a defective product with a product from the same company, especially if Palm is not backing up their product with a meaningful solution (as is reported elsewhere in these reviews).

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked well for a while
Initially I loved my Tungsten T, but after 6 months, the touch screen began requiring repeated recalibration. This has become progressively worse, to the point that recalibrating or repeatedly soft rebooting does not help and the T has died. This all occurred after the warranty period, and the online knowledge base and phone support have been worse than useless. After reading customer feedback here, it appears that several other people have experienced the same problems with the T and the same frustration with Palm support.I'm now shopping for a (non-Palm) replacement.I would strongly discourage anyone from buying what appears to be a flawed product from annon-supportive company. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Hardware Problems
At first this worked great. Then I started experiencing image problems on the screen. Finally after a little more than a year, the iPAQ stopped working.I was in the middle of updating something when the screen went black and wouldn't change.I charged it although it was fully charged, and then it wouldn't turn off.Still, nothing on screen.Overall, I'm very disappointed. My next handheld will not be an HP.

5-0 out of 5 stars One should try this
I received iPaq as a birthday gift from my fiance.I know quite well about electronics.
    My initial impression was Wow..
The Display/Graphics is extremely pleasing.Navigation is very simple..so any starter who is not very techno savvy can operate this PC with ease.Since the operating system is Windows CE,its very simple to browse thru(as many are familiar with Windows GUI).The best feature ofcourse is Outlook Syncup (must for all Pocket PCs ofcourse) but its easy and quick. The software installation is not too difficult either. The sound quality is good and works great with a Secure Digital card as well.

    Now for a few Cons,
The conventional "CROSS" at Top,right hand corner doesnot stand for "Closing" of the program but it means "Minimising" the screen. That leaves your program still running in Backgroud. So even if the display shows your "desktop" (Today screen) there are functions running in backgroud...This will make your PC freeze often if many programs are running.
This PC freezes very often and I have to reset it then.
If it freezes real bad then you will have to Hard reset it which means your data is lost.
So I would suggest that "Stop" all the running programs at certain intervals..You have that option in "Settings".

But overall I am very happy with the performance...
I would advise one to buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sync problems keep cropping up/no support
I've had mine for 1.5 years, and it's very useful, except for one problem. I can't sync. At all.

At first it synced fine, but after a while, I had occasional problems and would have to spend hours getting it to work, because my comp would not be able to find the device (I've found many reasons for this, and trust me - they are a pain to chase down - even fluff in the connector and an iffy signal to the interface will do the trick). This time, I've spent a week of evenings searching for the solution. When I checked the HP Web site, this item was totally lacking in help, I believe because it is no longer sold. My comp is fine, the device is fine, and the Activesync is there - they just are not speaking. I call this the "family feud PDA" - they are close, they are family - they won't talk.

I've given up on it - bought a Palm-based product for a bit higher cost. So easy, plus it has a camera, an MP3 player, and it syncs! ... Read more

    PalmOne m515 Color Handheld
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The release of the Palm m515 handheld proves that Palm listens to customers and is willing to make changes. Thanks to the indifferent customer response to the lackluster color screen of the Palm m505 (released in 2001), the Palm m515 boasts a much brighter display and contrast controls that were missing in its predecessor.

We were among the many who voiced disappointment with the Palm m505, and while the m515's color screen still isn't at the top of the class, it's an obvious and welcome improvement. With display support for over 65,000 colors, icons and images (viewed in the included PhotoSuite application) have a nice richness and depth of color. However, as the screen resolution is only 160 by 160 pixels, the m515 doesn't achieve the crispness found in the Sony T615 (which has a 320 by 320 pixel resolution). But ultimately, unless you need a high-end multimedia viewer integrated into your handheld, you should be suitably happy with the m515's display.

There are only three levels of brightness contrast control--high, low, and off. At first we were taken aback by the "off" setting, as it rendered the screen almost invisible in our office, but it's fine for outdoor usage and will help conserve battery power.

With its curved angles, thin design, and light weight, the Palm m515 feels very comfortable, both in the palm of your hand and resting in your pocket. Also, with the m515's 33 MHz DragonBall VZ processor, we found switching applications to be very fast.

The applications and desktop software (version 4.01 for Windows and version 2.6.3 for Mac) haven't changed, and that's just fine with us. (Note that a beta version of Palm Desktop 4 for Mac OS X is available for download.) The Palm interface is one of the most elegant and simple to understand--yet powerful--operating systems around.

But Palm adds more power with a variety of add-on applications that you can choose to install, ranging from Documents To Go for viewing and editing Word and Excel documents, to Palm's collection of mobile connectivity apps, to the aforementioned PhotoSuite for viewing images and short movies. Our favorite is AvantGo, an app that downloads Web content to the m515 whenever you synchronize, which enables us to keep up with the latest world news as well as Aussie Rules Football scores. You can add even more content and applications via the expansion slot, using optional Secure Digital or MultiMediaCard memory cards.

You can choose to synchronize the Palm m515 with the Palm Desktop application or link to Microsoft Outlook (Windows only). Palm Desktop is more than adequate, but if you are in a corporate environment and Outlook is your scheduling/e-mailing/tasking brain center (which it is for us), the synchronization is seamless.

Overall, we're very happy with the Palm m515--it's quick on its feet, has a nice color display, and is loaded with great software additions that can enhance both your productivity and your fun. --Agen G.N. Schmitz

    Pros:

    • Improved color screen--brighter, with contrast controls
    • Good range of additional software, from Internet connectivity to e-book reader
    • Expansion slot enables you to add even more content and applications to customize the m515 to your needs
    • Easy synchronization with Palm Desktop or Microsoft Outlook
    Cons:
    • Continued use of high brightness level can wear on batteries
    • Palm Desktop for Mac still behind the times, but new software on the way

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Handheld for Students
I bought myself a Palm M515 after I destroyed the screen on my M100.I have been using the M515 for three years and have had no problems whatsoever.Any student interested in a Palm handheld should give the M515 serious consideration. This device has proven very useful in tracking homework, projects, and tests.Only complaint is no wireless capabilities without the use of Palm's bulky add-on modem (Nearly every school has their own wireless network).

1-0 out of 5 stars While it works, it's really great.
One star for:While it works, it's really great.

Reason it doesn't get more stars:ITS TOTALLY UNRELIABLE! (ditto the other reviews.)Mine died (stopped synching) after a year. That was my 3rd death of a Palm in 3 years.I've now gone back to paper.I hate the paper, but it's reliable.Loved the Palm while it worked. Then it crashes, you waste days trying to get it fixed.Customer support is ridiculous.Best they can offer is ask you to spend $100 to send it in to look at it - with no guaranty they can fix.

1-0 out of 5 stars it lasted less than a year
I had my palm for 2yrs but only had it activated for about 3 months I would not recomend this product to anyone.I liked it when it worked but the durability is horrible.I had my palm stored in the box it came in for about one and half years. When I wanted to use it agian it will not work and palm wants to charge $125 to replace. I wouldnt give them $125 for something that has let me down the way this machine has. I paid almost $400 for it and used it for 3 months ... Read more
