Editorial Review

Small enough to keep with you at all times and ideal for enjoying music in privacy and comfort, Sony's MDREX71SL Fontopia earbud headphones come with two sizes of soft earbuds to accommodate a full range of ears. The buds' closed, Fontopia design reduces outside noise for high-intensity listening, while Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo Circuitry heightens the resonant bass response. So-called "silent caps" prevent sound leakage.

A compact carry case neatly stores the earbuds and headphone cord when they're not in use, and the winding case design itself minimizes cord tangles and lets you shorten the free cord length during use. A detachable extension cord lets you listen at a distance of 4.5 feet from your source. The main cord's gold-plated .125-inch minijack plug ensures exceptional corrosion resistance, superb conductivity, and low noise. Similarly, the high-grade oxygen-free-copper (OFC) cord maintains high signal transmission and low noise. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THESE!!!Cheap Plastic, Exposed Wiring issues
Trust me. Trust me. Trust Me - Do buy these!I agree with all the reviews that say the sound is great and the buds are comfortable and it is cheaper than the higher rank ones. The issue I have with that is that they ARE cheaper, but, if you use them as often as I do, the cables get TANGLED up and are made of CHEAP PLASTIC and the WIRING GETS EXPOSED and eventually they become unusable. So, not I need to get new ones and pay more. Not so chepa after all.Only cheaply made.

I NEVER write reviews unless I feel strongly and I do.I called SONY and complained and got nothing back from them.Splurge for the better ones, because you're going to pay anyway!

5-0 out of 5 stars wow, these really are nice
They're almost a little bit too bassy for me, but they seem to give a really good range of sound. I think I'm not quite used to the bassyness. They're the best earbuds I've tried so far, and my experience is rather limited, hence the 5 stars.

The package also includes a 1m extension cord (approx. 1 yard for you yanks), and three different sizes of earbuds, not two as the feature list of the amazon description says. The review has it correct. (small, medium and large, and they come fitted with the medium).

It comes with two hard carrying cases. One big one which fits all the accessories, and one smaller one for the buds only.

Recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good bass, very comfortable
I just bought these earbuds from Circuit City for $49.99 (with an extra $11.99 extended warranty to protect myself from the day they go out on me). So far, I am satisfied. From a comfort perspective they are leaps and bounds more comfortable than the Apple earbuds.I tried the Apple In-Ear buds as well and they wouldn't stay in, so I finally got these. The sound quality is adequate, nothing too spectacular.I've been spoiled by my Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones so I guess I am a bit jaded. The included carrying case is cheap and useless, so I use my earPod instead. However, the fact that the cord is uneven makes it a bit of a challenge to wrap them around the earPod.The cord doesn't even wrap around the included 'earbud holder', which, in the directions, seems to look easier than it is (of course). It's basically a small plastic bubble that opens up and barely holds the earbuds. It doesn't close very well either, especially if you wrap the cord around it, like the directions show. That's why I give these a 3 star rating instead of a higher one.Sony should have spent more time in R&D on the portability aspect.

I would like to eventually move up to the Etymotic ER6i's but I can't justify dropping $150 on a pair of earbuds right now.I don't work out(yeah, I know, I should, just too darn busy), so I don't know how they perform in a gym environment.Overall, the Sony's seem to do the job better than the Apple earbuds.I'll be testing them on an upcoming flight so we'll see if they are any good there. I have used the Apple earbuds on flights and they seem to hold up pretty well. But, for $49.99 you can't expect stellar design and sound. If you're looking for a step up from the included Apple earbuds, the Sony MDR-EX71SL is a good choice. If you're looking for mind-blowing sound, you'll have to pay more. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars i've seen better
After reading the other reviews I realize that I am lucky in that this player did not start displaying "no disk" until a year and a half down the road (with light use). it is very temperamental and chooses when it is in the mood to play a cd. no complaints with the radio or cassette player, but if you are in the market for a cd player.. keep looking. you can do better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Won't play cd's after four months of use
I have only had this item for about four months-- just past the waranty date. The cd player on it just stopped working a couple weeks ago. I have tried different cd's, cleaning, etc.It continues to display "no disk" and plays nothing.I am now searching the reviews to purchase a new cd player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke after warranty expired
After 6 months of light use in which it sat on a shelf and never was moved, one day the CD player suddenly quit playing a CD and displayed "no disk."

I tried several different CDs and got the same error message with each one. Immediately checked the warranty paper and discovered it was warrantied for 90 days. Not very happy about having to buy a new one. My last one was Aiwa and while the speakers were too tinny, it lasted for about 7 years before the CD player broke. ... Read more

Sony DVP-NS325B DVD Player (Black)

Editorial Review

Sony's affordable DVP-NS325B features built-in MP3 decoding, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW (video mode) playback, and Precision Drive 2 with Dynamic Tilt Compensation for error-free disc reading. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

A 192 kHz 24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats, while a set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's optical digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Sony's TV Virtual Surround (with four surround modes) simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

Playback options include quick set-up, DVD/CD Text, block noise reduction, a digital video enhancer, custom parental control memory for 40 discs, Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes, instant replay, instant search, multi-disc resume (for up to six discs), and custom picture mode. Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a RMT-D152A remote control that operates the DVD player and many brands of television. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this DVD player.
Maybe I should get together with some of the other disappointed buyers of this DVD player. My unit will play DVDs but won't play CDs.I use the term "will play DVDs" loosely because they have to have a pristine surface, or the unit will freeze up and skip chapters. It won't play 85% of the rental DVDs that I bring home.It wouldn't burn me so much if I could use the thing for a transport for CDs and feed the signal to a good digital analog converter, but it won't even read CDs.Brand new, or not.I bought this at Circuit City without doing my homework.I like Sony products but this player is a dog.Even when it plays, the picture isn't great. In progressive mode there are artifacs and it has a gamma problem.Save your money by doing your homework.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible product
Hate it! - I bought my Sony DVD player about 6 months ago, worked great then out of the blue I kept getting "cannot play" errors. It will play music CDs or video CDs but NOT DVDs.Called the Sony help desk, they had me unplug it for 2 minutes, plug it back in, then insert a DVD - same message.Their response was that for 39.99 and shipping they would give me a replacement "refurbished" unit. For that price I bought a Zenith on sale.

1-0 out of 5 stars More than a lemon
I hate my Sony DVD player.Worked great for the first six months, but now I receive the message "Please insert disc" when I put in a DVD.If I can get the player to work by repeatedly inserting a DVD, the player skips from chapter to chapter and breaks apart when trying to read the DVD.I am surprised to find a substandard product from Sony.I have repeatedly purchased Sony TV's and various other products without incident. ... Sony D-FS601 S2 Sports CD Walkman Portable Disc Player
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Electronics
list price: $139.99

Editorial Review

Sony's DFS601 CD Walkman screams "excitement," from its snazzy S2 Sports design to its ergonomic joystick operation and great sound. Ultimate Skip-Free G-Protection technology and a three-way control key on the grip together permit use while jogging or participating in other activities, while a supplied hand strap makes it easier to carry. Though it's not designed for immersion, the Walkman does offer a water-resistant design with rubber gaskets, bushings, and water-resistant seals that help keep out water, moisture, and dirt.

Keep it moving in style with the DFS601
The DFS601 puts the best of the broadcast world at your fingertips, too, with its FM/AM/TV/weather-band digital tuner. Using its 51-station preset memory (seven for TV, four for weather, 30 FM, and 10 AM), favorite stations are never more than a button away. You can even call up stations directly by their frequencies. Sony's Ultimate Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks--up to 10 times faster than conventional systems.

The player delivers 40 hours of playback on two AA batteries (not included) bolstered by Sony's two-position automatic volume limiter system (AVLS), which conserves batteries and guards hearing by capping listening level. This player supports optional Sony Nickel Cadmium NC-WMAA rechargeable batteries or optional Nickel Metal Hydride NH-WM2AA rechargeable batteries, offering great savings and convenience over replaceable batteries. Other features include nine playback modes (among them shuffle play, repeat play, and 64-track program play) and audio CD-R/CD-RW playback. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony is *the* standard of which others are compared.
I don't write many reviews, but sometimes I feel I should chime in with my two cents. I test products for my company, which means I test 20-40 cd players per week if not more. Sony does portable audio right--they build SOLID, well made devices. They do everything right (well more of their players could have MP3 support, but you can't have everything.)

Anyway, not only is this player and other simlar models well built, they sound great--with out a ton of settings the sony fs601 delivers we all are looking for--great sound.

Design--well I recently had a chance to "test" cd players with a four year old child. He fell in love with the Sony 601 and figured out how to change the volume, change tracks, etc. These tasks he couldn't figure out on many of the other players. He didn't care for Sony's headphones, but that was an easy fix. The added bonus? I wasn't worried about him breaking the 601, since they are near unbreakable.

Sony sets the bar that others must *TRY* to meet...I haven't found too many that reach that bar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best discman I've owned.
I've always been fond of Sony's discmen in comparison to similar products made by other companies, and this particular one has been the best I've used by far.

The sound quality is great, with plenty of bass boost (two levels). The radio, weatherbands and TV bands also sound great (when reception is good, of course, as with any radio device) - this discman seems to pick up reception a bit better than other devices I've owned in the past. The only problem I've ever had with sound is with certain CD-R's - I haven't narrowed it down to a brand, but sometimes a CD-R will start sounding fuzzy or muddy. The problem clears up once I stop the cd and resume play - my only negative comment for this discman.

Aside from sound, I LOVE the ergonomics of this discman. I love the thumb control; when used in conjunction with the hand strap, it works beautifully for single-handed control of the discman, for both volume and CD control (i.e. stopping, track FF, etc). the hand strap is also better designed than in previous models so the whole thing fits in your hand better and is a lot easier to adjust since it's made of a fabric rather than rubber.

One thing some folks may not like is the lack of a pause button seperate from the stop button. The stop function acts as a pause in that the discman remembers your place in the middle of a song, so it shuts down the discman, saving battery life, and as long as you don't open the discman, will resume playing right where you left off. But if you're pausing a lot and resuming play, it takes a second to start back up once you've stopped rather than continuing immediately.Me, I don't mind, but I suppose it could be annoying to some people.

Lastly, the skip protection - I nearly forgot about it because it seems skipping CDs have become a thing of the past, including with this discman.

5-0 out of 5 stars You HAVE to gt this Cd Player!

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good for voice, many features. Weak on my music.
Upon reading other customer reviews I bought this tape recorder. It is ok for voice recording and playback, but when I recorded my piano practice the playback sounded awful. Since I had bought it for that purpose I returned it. For voice it has a good tone and the machine noise is less than others I have heard. So, especially considering all the features including cue/review it is a good choice for voice recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Machine
I've had one of these since 1993. It's perfect. It's a tape player and recorder, and that's it.

It never jams on a good tape. It's perfect at what it does.

Being an audiobook lover I use it to listen to my books around the house and it has had a lot of use!

Unlike units that have CD players, the tape is the focus, not an afterthought.

Also, it's far superior to tape units that switch sides for you, because they often switch sides at the least resistance, not necessarily the end of the tape.

In summation, this is the tape audiobook listener's friend for reliable, no trouble, listening for hours and hours and years to come..

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice features, Nice Price, NiceCassette Recorder
This is a very nice cassette recorder, that is loaded with features that most cassette recorders don't have anymore. It has microphone jack, ear jack, tape counter, sliding volume control(on side of unit), built-in very sensative mic, that picks up full-fidelity sound.Uses full-size cassette tapes, has full-auto stop; which means that it will stop in Rewind, Fast Forward, and playing or recording.Speaker produces good sound, with clear recordings.I recently recorded old 78 records, using this recorder, and placing it near the record player. It produced, very clear, full-fidelity recordings; even from scratchy sounding 78 records. It also has cue and review, that let you rewind or fast-forward to selections without pressing stop key.Comes with AC adapter, and uses 4 "AA" batteries.Recorder is simple to operate, but produces good voice or music recordings. It has ALC for perfect recordings every time, without making adjustments. Highly recommend this recorder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How many pictures will it store?
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about.Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The Sony MSA128A 128MB Memory Stick, like most 128MB cards, will store on average 142 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 106 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera,64 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 51 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 40 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product but high price
I got this 128 MB Memory Stick because the one that came with my Sony Cybershot it's only 16Mb (only 9 pics) and this makes me believe that they intentionally give you a small chip so you buy another of their pruducts. My suggestion is to purchase a Lexar or another brand, because works as well and the price is lot cheaper, Any way I got this one and works perfectly, It's only the price why I rated only with 4 stars

5-0 out of 5 stars works as it's supposed to

SONY KP-57WV600 57" 16:9 HDTV Projection Television
Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Electronics

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Blazing forth with its huge screen, Sony style, and myriad high-tech features, the KP-57WV600 HDTV projection television is set to render vivid, smooth, and detailed images from DVD players, digital TV set-top boxes, digital satellite systems, cable television boxes--you name it. Especially nifty is the set's Memory Stick picture viewer. Just pop your Memory Stick media card into the front-panel slot (it accepts 8 to 128 MB Sticks) to view images from your digital camera or personal computer.

And since not everything you watch will be high-definition in origin, Sony's DRC (Digital Reality Creation) upconverts all video signals by replacing the signal's NTSC waveform with a near-high-definition equivalent, doubling the number of vertical and horizontal lines in the process. This gives you four times the density for quality sources like DVD, satellite systems, and digital camcorders. You can select interlaced, progressive, or CineMotion (3:2 pulldown) outputs, and a feature called DRC Palette lets you customize the level of detail (Reality) and smoothness (Clarity) to create and store up to three custom palettes.

Meanwhile, ClearEdge VM Velocity Modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter processes RF and composite-video signals for a sharp, clean picture. This filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricate scenes.

CineMotion 3:2 pulldown circuitry identifies film-based content from DVDs and reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce a movie's original 24-frame rate. This process eliminates artifacts and gives you sharp, accurate full-frame progressive images. The set's HD Detailer wideband video amplifier adds a finishing touch, ensuring nuanced rendering of high-definition and standard-definition images alike.

Using Sony's multi-image driver (MIDX), the Twin View feature lets you watch two programs side by side, with the ability to zoom in one of them. You can watch pictures from two different sources (in 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i) simultaneously (though only the left Twin View window can display 1080i, 720p, and 480p sources).

The KP-57WV600 is loaded with connections of all stripes, including a DVI-HDTV (Digital Visual Interface) input, which channels a pure, uncompressed video connection with your DTV receiver or set-top box. The set also offers two HD component-video inputs and several composite- and S-video connections to accommodate all your home-video components. A set of audio/video outputs (composite-video with one fixed- and one fixed-/variable-level audio) facilitates hookup with an AV receiver and speaker system or other external component.

For audio, the KP-57WV600 offers TruSurround, which simulates an enveloping, surround-sound experience right from the set's two speakers, while Steady Sound maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal--perfect for minimizing abrupt level switches between programs and commercials.

Other features include scrolling index (which lets you preview and select programs from scrolling representative images), favorite channels (from which you can preview and select from among eight of your favorite TV stations), and V-Chip parental control (which lets you block unsuitable programming from younger viewers).

1-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaw
Our SONY KP-57WV600 is either defective or poorly designed. After a year of owning this televsion there are large streaks and circular areas of dust caught under the screen. The TV has not been exposed to large amounts of dust and the room it is placed in is immaculent. Even if I was a bad housekeeper it should not be covered with dust residue. Have had repair person out twice and not even he knows what to do. Finally the company that I bought it from has it at "the shop." Even if they are able to remove the dust is there going to be a guarantee that they have stopped the problem? I believe this is a design flaw and do not recommend this TV to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't access the convergence settings!
sony doesn't allow consumers to access the convergence settings.
It costs almost 200$ every time for a technician to come and do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Television
I have owned Sony televisions since 1980, and I have never been disappointed with any of their televisions. The KV-20FS100 in no exception - an excellent television.I much prerfer Sony's aperature grille CRT over a shadow-mask CRT.I've noted other reviewers' comments on the weight of Sony televisons - an aperature grille cathode ray tube is a bit heavier than a standard shadow-mask CRT.The KV-20FS100's color saturation is excellent and the sound with the standard speakers is quite acceptable.I just wish they were available in charcoal-grey color.IMO, the silver color used in most televisions today looks cheap!

One note on the price: this set replaces a Sony KV-20XBR television purchased in 1986 - and yes, it still works! The 20XBR cost $739 in 1986 dollars, so $250 to $275 I paid for this television is a bargain. It's not built as well as the 20XBR, but the original XBR series was built in Sony's Tokyo's facility and was considered a videophile-level television at the time.

Once you own a Sony television, no other brand will ever be acceptable!

5-0 out of 5 stars great tv
I bought this tv today and am very pleased with my purchase.I compared this model to the next sony 20" FV... model and the sound must be much better because that's the only reason I can find for that model's increased cost, (I believe about $50 more). The FV model is described as compact (good for a bedroom/kitchen) but it has the same dimensions as this KV model (I wouldn't really call either tv compact - the tube still makes it huge in the rear). All the other details seem to be the same too for the most part.I didn't check out the sound on this one in the store to compare it to the FV model, but, I really like the sound on this one.The sound I had before was particularly poor so any improvement was a great improvement. However, I have a good ear and the sound on this tv is quite clear and defined. We watched a dvd episode of Voyager on it for our first viewing experience and all the ship sounds/ special effects were very realistic with depth and clarity.
Other reviewers have complained about the weight (almost 55 lbs) but I have compared this model to 2 dozen other 20"-24" flat screen tube tvs and all the others I remember checking out weighed at least 20 lbs more than this one.I shopped around online to find the best picture and sound for under $300 and I chose this sony KV-20FS100 and am very happy with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not good for watching DVDs
The picture is not bright enough to bring out details in a dark background. Especially when you watch a night scence in a DVD movie, you cannot clearly see the actors' faces. I would recommend your buying a JVC or Panasonic if you want to enjoy movies. ... Read more

SONY KV13FS110 13" Flat Screen Television
Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars

Editorial Review

Sony's compact, 13-inch KV-13FS110 Trinitron WEGA television is lightweight, easy to move, and finished in white to blend with kitchen decor. Equally perfect for bedrooms and apartments, the set's FD (flat display) picture tube helps ensure vivid, high-contrast images by reducing geometric distortions and cutting down on glare from room light that might otherwise wash out the picture.

The tube's fine-pitch aperture grille permits a high number of electrons to reach the screen surface for bright, sharp images, while a built-in 3D digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A high-end component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible satellite receiver or DVD player, while standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players and other video hardware. Hooking up a camcorder from time to time? Use the handy front-panel audio/video inputs. The set offers stereo audio with 3 watts per channel.

You can label the set's video inputs and channels for easy selection, and speed surf and channel jump further simplify viewing. Other video technologies on hand include auto white balance, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation.

1-0 out of 5 stars High Repair Costs
This is the second Sony 13" Flat Screen that I have owned. They both have done the same thing. After about 6 months to 1 year they randomly slip into the "sleep mode" with the red light blinking on the front of the TV.The only way to wake them up is to take them to an authorized dealer for about 75% of the original perchase price. Not worth the price!Too bad, because the picture, when it works, is really great.I'm so disapointed!

Sony KP-43HT20 43" Rear Projection HDTV Monitor
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Electronics

Editorial Review

Bring the multiplex into your home with the 43-inch Sony KP-43HT20 rear-projection HDTV monitor. This extra-large flat widescreen hi-scan set accepts the full 1080 interlaced scanning lines (1080i) from an external high-definition receiver or high-definition DIRECTV receiver. Other features include a 16:9 (enhanced) aspect ratio, 3D digital comb filter, TruSurround sound, MicroFocus lens system, picture-in-picture capability, and 2 component inputs.

The KP-43HT20's Multi-Image Driver enables you to watch two programs side-by-side from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) simultaneously. It has four widescreen modes, including wide zoom (enlarges 4:3 aspect ratio while the upper and lower parts of the picture are condensed to fit 16:9 aspect ratio), normal (4:3 aspect ratio), full (enlarges the 4:3 picture horizontally only to fill the wide screen), and zoom (enlarges the 4:3 picture horizontally and vertically to an equal aspect ratio that fills the 16:9 screen).

It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner, and Sony's Digital Reality Creation (DRC) mode, which doubles vertical and horizontal lines, resulting in four times the density for such high-quality video sources as DVDs, satellite broadcast, and digital camcorders. You do need a separate HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts.

The KP-43HT20 offers a good range of Sony video technology. The Cinemotion 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theaterlike experience at home. The 3D digital comb filter offers 10-bit signal processing that renders superb gradation of grays, resulting in superior picture detail. Unlike conventional line doublers, the DRC Multi-Function feature doubles vertical and horizontal lines, resulting in four times the density for sources such as DVD, satellite, and digital camcorders.

You'll get booming surround sound with the 20-watt dyanamic acoustic chamber (DAC) speaker system. It produces TruSurround Sound with SRS (Sound Retrieval System) 3D audio effect. Two HD-capable (Y/Pb/Pr--1080i, 480p, and 480i) component-video inputs (both at the rear) allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component-video outputs. It also has 2 A/V inputs (1 front, 1 rear), 3 S-video inputs (1 front, 2 rear), 2 RF inputs, 1 center speaker input, and 1 monitor (rear).

Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great picture.spendy stand
I bought this tv a few months ago after a lot of debate.Sony always seemed to be the more expensive product, then it went on sale.13,999 was the sale.after having to buy the necessary stand for 200, the sale price kind of vanished.Keep in mind that you will need some sort of stand for this unit as it sits too low for good viewing angle without it.The picture is great. As most people say, unless you have a good cable signal, the flaws will be very evident. But I bought this for movies.DVD's look awesome!!I only wish it was widescreen as most all dvd's come in 16:9 format.I know, why did I buy a 4:6 aspect then?Well, I don't like how if you are watching normal tv and the picture is cut down.I would definitely recommend this tv to others, but I would warn people to weigh their priorities. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars best TV I ever had
The Sony company should win an award for this HDTV it s the best picture I have ever seen. DVD's are super and HDTV for sports and PBS is fanstatic. BUY IT !!

The only downside was the wait for the stand, and the lack of space for components below.

5-0 out of 5 stars Picture perfect
I had it for more than 6 months with Digital TV decoder. It is perfect TV for the digital TV programs like major prime time dramas and many NFL games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful!!
We've had this TV for a few months now, and the picture still blows us away. There are only a handfull of High Definition channels right now, but watching an HDTV broadcast, makes this set worth every penny. Watching sporting events in HD is like having a seat inside the stadium / arena(This set is a football lover's dream. ESPN HD is the coolest!). We looked at a bunch of different models, including some of the bigger screens, but this one is just the perfect size for us, and the Sony was the most highly recommended by salespeople(they always noted how busy repair guys were with some of the other models). A good store will have HD pumped in on all their TVs to help with deciding which unit has the best picture. The Sony was sharp, the sound was good, and the remote was easy to learn. Also, watching DVDs with the progressive scan is like going to the movies. With the different audio and video setups, multiple inputs(including a convenient front input), and universal remote(included), you'll be very pleased with this set, whether you're watching the latest movie on DVD, catching the playoffs, or watching your favorite show in HD. This one is a good choice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't want to Wait?Get this!!!
Last Xmas, I decided to spend my bonus on something for me.I had been debating a TV for about a month or 2.My wife was having problems with spending this amount of mony on a single TV, but once she got in the store, she fell in love along with me.

The picture quality is great.I hate sitting close to the screen; but close or far away, it still looks great. The PIP is a great function: You can basically make each PIP screen any size you want, which is great for playing video games and watching TV.It is very easy to understand the remote. The only thing I have to add now is a surround system: I mean, I have a screen like the movies, it just needs to sound like the movies now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Goin' w/ Sony
Just purchased the t.v. a few days ago.Originally, I was looking for a 55-60", but quickly my mind became made up.The 65" Sony is sharp television from the inside out.The silver exterior has a contemporary look, able to shine in any home.I love the fact the screen has a protective cover, allowing me to wipe it down as often as I wish (clarity is key). The images projected in both the 4:3 and 16:9 are excellent. This television allows for 4 different color modes, 4 or 5 different zooms, has a phenominal audio system, and is loaded w/ jacks for connections with just about anything. Also impressive is the fact that you can watch this t.v. from 8-10 feet away, and still get great viewing out of it.For the money, this t.v. is definitely worth every penny. No glare, no bad angles, sound quality is excellent, and the picture is the best I've scene before the plasma t.v.'s.I love my Sony. ... Read more
