5-0 out of 5 stars A great value and no problems with breakage
I've had these glasses for over a year now and we've had great luck with them. We always put them in the dishwasher, on the normal cycle, in the bottom rack. Never had one break in the dishwasher or from handling. It may be that we've had good luck because we don't use a heated drying cycle with the machine.

One word of caution: These are leaded crystal glasses. The lead in them WILL dissolve into any acidic liquid you put in them. The quantities of lead are very, very small... you probably get more lead from breathing than you ever would from these glasses, but still, you wouldn't want to leave wine in them overnight and then drink it.

Low price, good quality, and they look nice. For this price, you can't go wrong.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Wash
They are decent glasses at a decent price, but they are extremely fragile. Both my mother and I have a set and we have discovered that we have to air dry them because towl drying breaks them.If you are the kind of person who will forget about the air dry rule don't buy them.I also have a set of Reidel glasses and have not had they same breakage issues, so the Reidel set is probably worth the extra money.

5-0 out of 5 stars More durable than they appear
There's not much to add to what everyone's already said about these excellent glasses. However, I wanted to weigh in on the dishwasher issue. The glasses do seem extremely delicate and I very nervously put one of them in the dishwasher as a guinea pig. I was happy to see it come out unscathed, and since then I have put them all in the dishwasher a few dozen times and haven't had a single problem. As long as you put them in the top rack and arrange them so that they won't bang into each other or anything else, you should be fine. I got mine during the 2-for-1 deal but they're easily worth the full price. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) made his American directorial debut with this stylized thriller about a French hit man (Jean Reno) who takes in an American girl (Natalie Portman) being pursued by a corrupt killer cop (Gary Oldman). Oldman is a little more unhinged than he should be, but there is something genuinely irresistible about the story line and the relationship between Reno and Portman. Rather than cave in to the cookie-cutter look and feel of American action pictures, Besson brings a bit of his glossy style from French hits La Femme Nikita and Subway to the production, and the results are refreshing even if the bullets and explosions are awfully familiar.--Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie
It was only by accident that I caught this movie showing on television. If it was released theatrically, I never saw it.Which is a shame, for this is an excellent movie.Well written and well acted, this is a must-see film for anyone who likes suspense and adventure.

Natalie Portman plays a young girl who is the only witness to a mass murder. The killer is a policeman.Leon, an excellent French actor, plays a professional assassin whose only companions are a green plant and his contact, played by Danny Aiello. His is a lonely life until the little girl comes to him for safety. She doesn't give him much choice in the matter.

Grateful to him, and fascinated by his way of life, she begins to learn his trade, with great alacrity.More than once they are forced by circumstances to move from their apartment, always taking the plant, careful not to damage it.Always in the back of her mind, though, is the policeman who killed her family. Her desire for vengeance and the growing love between her and the assassin, complicate their lives, leading to a final, explosive confrontation.

The characters are well-drawn and sympathetic. The story line is interesting from beginning to end, and very believable.

Viewers who find this movie interesting might also enjoy Gloria with Gena Rowlands.

5-0 out of 5 stars One thing has nothin' to do with the other
And that's almost how this movie goes:Just because Leon is a professional killer, doesn't mean he's cold hearted. This movie just cleverly blended in some intense action with a warm hearted bond.

Leon(Jean Reno) is the bad-@$$ that is a pro, and has been killing since the age of 19.Looking at his apperence, it looks lke he's been doing this for a real long time. But his life of living lonley, blasting for cash, and feeding his house plant(And aw man, he loves his house plant) were about to be turned around when a 12 year old girl(Natalie Portman) comes into his life after her family gets massacared by a crazy dirty federal agent(Gary Oldman), and when he takes his medcian, man he's out of this world.I'm serious, once he starts humming to Beethoven, RUN!It doesn't matter where to, get the fudge away from him!

After the opening action sceenes, you see the heart of this film paulse like crazy. The connection between Leon and Matilida is just heartwarming. When I saw the uncut version I realized alot of stuff changed, like Leon insted of being a father figure, is somewhat that and a lover.I was kinda freaked, cuz a 40-50 year old guy, and a 12 year old girl?!It just ain't right, but this is still the main backbone of the movie.

Leon definitly stapled Jean Reno on the map, and opened up alot of oppurtunities for future stars. This movie has a bit of violence, and one great ending, I'm tellin' you, Leon definitly goes out with a bang.Anyone who likes Reno, Action flicks, or movies for that matter, GET THIS!To me, this, in many ways, reminds me of Ico(PS2)by dragging me in it's world emotionaly. To me, right next to Shawshank Redemption, this is the greatest movie ever made.

    Peace

1-0 out of 5 stars I agree with most of the other reviewers here on one...
...thing about this uncut version on such a masterpiece that "Leon" indeed is; These two version tells two very different stories. But; I wish I had never seen the uncut version having previously seen only the "international Leon" (and make that several times). This version (the uncut) turned the father-figure that Leon eventually becomes (perhaps no rolemodel, but...) in the international version into a "lover" of some kind. Of course, he and the little girl don't have sex -but still I couldn't help watching helplessly the entire movie (both tense and gripping) fall apart! No wonder why the movie was edited in the first place, and I am shocked to read here that most reviewers find this to be the ultimate version of the movie... It's ok to be a fan, but this... was bad! Had I known this I'd bought myslf a copy of "Lolita" instead -so just press your "no"-buttons below here, I'm not trying to act like a saint -but I find no excuse for this perversion!

One star for the uncut-version, four for the international (it used to be five until this ruined the entire image of "Leon").

(Oldman is fantastic by the way, I have to add this!) ... Read more

Don't waste your time on cheaper brands. This shaker will stand the test of time.Unlike other reviewers, my shaker is not too tight at all, though I imagine freezing it would make it hard to pull apart. You can't go wrong here.ZH

4-0 out of 5 stars Great shaker with "Super" tight strainer/lid...
I really like this shaker but wow that shaker is really in place!I suppose it's a pretty good thing too because I have used other shakers and while shaking up the mix the top went flying and the icky-sticky stuff took a trip around the room.I use mine mostly for making Margarita's.I love that you can keep it in the freezer after cleaning so that it's nice and frosty when you are ready to use it.But........you better work out those fingers and hands cuz brother that lid is tight! I've found the best way for me to loosen it's grip is to hold with one hand and slightly twist with the other while pushing up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Shaker
I like this a lot.It is very compact and easy to use. I like the built in ice strainer. You just slip off the cap and pour. No hassles of the top jamming and having to beat it open with a knife. You will need a finer strainer if you want to filter out citrus pulp, for example. But for most cocktails you are just straining out the ice. But I like this one for it's convenience. ... Read more

    PalmOne m130 Handheld
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $199.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Palm's m130 enters the handheld market as one of the least expensive color units available. Basically a colorized version of the earlier m125, the m130's bright backlit screen displays 58,621 colors on its 160 x 160 pixel screen.

It also boasts an 8 MB memory with an expansion slot that accepts both MultiMediaCard (MMC) and Secure Digital (SD) cards for adding both memory and special applications. The SD card slot will also connect to SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) devices, including Bluetooth cards for wireless connectivity, and upcoming peripherals like digital cameras and bar code scanners.

You can also attach peripherals to the base of the unit via the Palm Universal Connector, which enables you to use the m130 with keyboards, modems, and GPS receivers that are also compatible with the i700 and m500 series handhelds.

The universal connector is where the handheld meets up with its USB cradle, which not only serves to sync up the m130, but to recharge its lithium-ion battery as well. On the highest setting (you can drop it down a notch in well-lit environments), the display backlight sucks juice at a moderate rate. But since the battery recharges at each sync-up, it's not much of an issue. Even if you run out of battery life and your m130 shuts down, you have about a week to recharge it before you lose the data on your Palm.

Nicely contoured, with an attachable faceplate that flips up (letting you play Captain Kirk and Dr. Spock, if you're so inclined), the 5.4-ounce m130 rests solidly in your left hand with the right manipulating its standard buttons and screen with the stylus. One complaint we did have with the m130: at the edges, the screen doesn't appear to be as sensitive as in the middle and it can sometimes require a repeat tap with the stylus before it registers.

In addition to the standard Palm Desktop software, the m130's impressive handheld software bundle includes Palm Reader (for taking e-books along with your Palm), DataViz's Documents To Go (for viewing and editing Word and Excel files; Windows users can also view and edit PowerPoint documents), and MGI PhotoSuite Mobile Edition (for viewing images and videos on the full-color screen).

An IR port on the top of the m130 lets you beam contact information, such as your business card, or even an application, to another similarly equipped handheld.

An inexpensive color handheld with a decent amount of memory and lots of room for growth, the m130 makes a great PDA for users looking to add color to their portable world. --J. Curtis

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst customer service for a bad product
I would have given this -10 stars if I could.I had mine for less than 90 days when it just wouldn't turn on.This happened around Christmas, so I couldn't contact them until after the 90 days was up.When I contacted them, they wanted to charge me to talk to them on the phone and wanted me to pay $100 to have it repaired. It took me 2 1/2 months to get them to finally fix it for free.1 month later, I finally got a refurbished one mailed back to me.(They also kept my cover that noone told me to remove)Then about 3 months later, the one that they sent to me died. When I contacted the company again, they said it would cost $100 to fix it.When I complained, the man that I spoke with told me he could give me 1/2 off another one.I then gave their customer service a bad review. No one ever contacted me.This is the worst piece of junk and the company that makes it is even worse. They don't care about making a product that is good, and they don't care about making the customer happy. Also when you call customer service, you can't get anyone in America.I would steer clear of this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mine died!
I bought my Palm M130 less than a year ago and it was great. Then one day it wouldn't turn on.I hit the reset button and it was fine for a few months. Then recently it wouldn't turn on again.I tried resetting it in different ways and no luck. Now i have a dead palm and all my phone numbers and calender info are stuck in my work computer!i wouldn't bother buying this product as i am sure it will die on you too :(

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent PDA with all basic features
I bought this Palm back in December 2002, and so far it has never let me down. Okay, the PDAs standards have developed a lot, but the basic features of this device remain useful: calendar, address book, and the Docs to go.
I am now giving thoughts to get an state-of-the-art PDA, but the bad reviews I've read here at Amazon regarding the Tungsten Chave make me think about moving to a smartphone, perhaps Sony Eriksson P900... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this product! I had originally bought one for my elderly mother-in-law who constantly makes stops to the beauty shop for manicures.(not to mantion for frequent perms) She thanked me very much and mentioned how lovely it was. Then she gave me a sample of it. I was amazed that someone who is 72 years of age who has arthritis in her hands could do this so easily - and beautifully, all with the touch of a button! I later went back to the store and bought one for myself. I now frequently pamper myself with manicures that make my nails grow in stonger and healthier and let my 16 year old daughter use it - escpecially before big dates! Go out and buy this thing now - your whole family will thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars this has good value for the cost
I love this Homedics manicure set, model MAN-300!I have natural nails and do use nail polish occasionally.Since I got this manicure set, I have used it frequently - much to my surprise. An extension cord is necessary because I'm usually sitting at a table or on the sofa when using the manicure set. Before, I'm a little embarrassed to say, I never kept up with my own manicures often enough and now with this machine, my hands and feet are now in the best condition ever because this machine is so easy to use and is effective. And the big filer attachment is great - I'm removing callouses on my feet and it's amazing to feel them so soft.About that other reviewer that said it was hard for that person to insert the attachments - I tried forcing them for the first minute, too, and then realized it only needs to be gently turned in place and it'll go in securely with a solid click.By the way, I now am using fingernail polish more often as my hands look so good these days (I'm filing off some ever-so-slightly unsmooth skin there, too). And I'm proud of the condition of my feet.

    3-0 out of 5 stars Depends ...
This might sound weird, but it depends on what you want to do with it.
    You're probably thinking:"Duh!" but I'm quite serious.

It is NOT a good replacement for your manicurist.

First of all, keep in mind that the cord is about 2 feet long (or shorter) so if you want to use it without facing the wall (it won't reach otherwise), make sure you have an extension cord.
Second of all, not all of the accessories are actually useful.Out of the SIX heads, only THREE were of any use.The other three are either too rough to use or don't reach or act the way it is supposed to do (based on directions in manual).
Third of all, it's too rough on natural nails.I would only recommend it if you have acrylic and need to smooth rough edges or need to fix something and can't make it to the manicurist. ... Read more

Accutire MS-4000B Deluxe Backlit Lithium Digital Tire Gauge

    Editorial Review

Accutire's new, deluxe digital tire gauge delivers precise tire pressure reading every time--and that's important. While manual tire gauges seem flimsy, sometimes stick, and can give inconsistent results, Accutire's digital gauge is a well-made, confidence-inspiring instrument. The Accutire also delivers impressive consistency: in our tests, we got within plus/minus 1/2 psi each time, something that's not likely to happen with a manual gauge. The Accutire's large back-lit LCD screen is easy to read, too, no matter if you're standing in pitch-black dark or in bright daylight. The gauge measures from 5 to 99 psi, in 1/2-pound increments, and automatically shuts itself off after you use it. Built with a rugged aluminum housing, a rubber nose, and tail guards, this gauge also comes with a handy steel side clip, in case you need to carry yours with you wherever you go. And when it's not in use, you can store the Accutire in its felt-lined, snap-shut case, so it won't get beat up rattling around in your glove box. Accutire's digital gauge costs more than a manual gauge, but with its lifetime lithium battery, it's going to last you a long, long time. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a sturdy and easy-to-use tire gauge
I bought this item back in May of 2001 for the two cars in my house. The tire gauge still works very well, and shows its readings in 0.5 psi increments. As advertised, the large digits are easy to read even in direct sunlight (I just verified that last week!).It works fine even as I'm nearing the fifth year of owning this handy item.It even looks brand-new because the case keeps it safe from scratches, dents, and dings that you are bound to get while it is stowed in the glovebox.

One thing that should be noted: people complained that it's hard to get a good seal to get a consistent and accurate reading.I bet it's because the tire's air nozzle was up or off to the side; I find that it's best when the nozzle is around the 6 or 7 o'clock position so that I can firmly press the gauge straight down. This means you have to crane your head a bit to read the digial measurement, but the important thing is to be able to press down straight & hard onto the tire's nozzle.

I've been using this gauge to check the tires more frequently since the season is changing, and also because I am on the road for longer periods of time. If not for anything, checking the air pressure makes me take a good and up-close look at the tires, and make sure that everything seems okay.At every check-up, this tire gauge was easy to use.I'd definitely buy this again, perhaps as a gift to someone who drives a lot, or as a replacement for myself if needed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead at just over a year old
In addition to the previously discussed problem of getting a good seal, I tried to use it the other day, and found it is totally dead. Replacing the button cells did not correct the problem. Seems the lithium battery failed prematurely. Considering the seal problem, I doubt I will bother to pay shipping & insurance to return it to the manufacturer for repair even if it is within the 5 year warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Obtaining Seal is Very Hard
I find it a struggle to get a good seal for proper measurement. My old fashioned mechanical gauge is much easier.
I regret my purchase, it was a complete waste of money. ... Read more

This adorable pair will immediately find a special place not only in your garden, but in your heart as well. Cast in concrete from an original design by Carruth Studio, this piece is exquisitely detailed; the cat's nose appears to be wet. The mouse catnaps on the cat's back--they're quite the odd couple, but the cat doesn't seem to mind. As George Carruth says, "If the artwork you surround yourself with doesn't make you smile... what's the point?" Exactly George, exactly. ... Read more

Olympus Camedia P-400 Digital Color Photo Printer
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $399.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The Olympus Camedia P-400 uses advanced dye-sublimation technology toprint an extremely sharp image on high-quality photo paper. The result looks andfeels like a traditional photograph. The P-400 also accepts a digital camera'sSmartMedia or PC Card directly, and it has USB and parallel interfaces for easyPC connectivity.

Weighing over 30 pounds, constructed of heavy plastic, and accented with metalcontrols, the Camedia P-400 impressed us with its sturdy design right out of thebox. To test the printer, we captured photos on a 16 MB CompactFlash card, placed the card in a CompactFlash-to-PCMCIA adapter (not included), and insertedthe adapter in the printer. (Our evaluation model came with the P-RBN photo inkcartridge already installed, but it is easily replaced through the front accesspanel. Also, our unit did not include driver software, so we were unable to testPC functionality.) Using the menu-driven LCD, jog dial, and arrow keys, wespecified our paper type (A4), input source (PC Card), and output photo size (8by 10 inches). We pressed the Print button, and after 2 minutes and 58 secondsthe P-400 rewarded us with a beautiful 8-by-10-inch photograph.

The Camedia P-400's color was very natural, not neon bright or oversaturated, and its tinting was slightly cool (more blue than red). Resolution was only 314dpi, but the dye-sublimation technology showed no visible grain. The resultswere better than many we've seen from 1,200 dpi ink-jet printers. We alsoprinted a slightly soft photograph and then used the printer's sharpeningfunction in an attempt to improve it. Unfortunately, unwanted pixelationincreased along with any positive sharpening affects. Printing speed was slowbut steady at 2:58 for each 8-by-10 print. Several minutes were required toprint one index/proof sheet of 20 photos, with nearly all of that time spentprocessing the CompactFlash card's data, not actually printing.

With only a casual glance, we could have easily mistaken the P-400's output ascoming from a photo lab. Only close scrutiny revealed minor pixelation, whichreflected the limit of our digital photo more than that of the printer. Theinitial cost is high, and the dye-sublimation ink cartridges and photo paper areexpensive; but if you can afford it, the P-400 Camedia makes a fine companionfor your digital camera. --Mike Brown

    Pros:

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!
Got this printer for $199 new (plus tax). This is the only printer I have ever used that literally is plug and play.No tweaks or fiddling with settings (though the option to do that is available).Right out of the box it prints so good you'd think you were in a Kodak or Fuji lab.I've shot photos with Lumix LC5 and Lumix FZ20 and the prints are spectacular. The trickiest part was loading in the new film, after using up the sample film that came pre-loaded.It took a couple minutes to read the directions.Someone else commented about this and gave the printer a "1" rating.Big deal. After you install the film once, you've got the idea.

I ordered supplies on Amazon.com and the per print cost goes down to $1.58 total.Ya can't do better than that at Costco or Sam's club.Think about it.An 8x10 in 90 seconds for $1.58.Best deal on the market.

Nestled upon my desk between a new Brother HP-1440 laser and a recently purchased Epson 960 CD printer, is a three year old Olympus P-400. Fast high quality text print-outs are routed to the laser printer, and the Epson is used for the specialty printing of card stock, CDs, and DVDs, but all photographs are created from the P-400, whether in color or black and white.

I originally purchased the P-400 for one simple reason; I wanted the highest quality prints possible of family members and for my wedding video service. The Olympus P-400 has never disappointed my highest expectations.

Most of us are familiar with how bubble-jet printers create dotted print-outs, which from a distance may look OK, but when viewed up-close the actual quality is not as good as hoped for. I have used a magnifying glass on print-outs from the P-400, and not only are there no dots, I actually do believe I prefer the P-400 print-outs over normal photographs. The P-400 print quality *is* that good. In my region of the world, film developing businesses on occasion ruin whole rolls of film, and so rather than my investing time and money into developing equipment to ensure quality photos, I can now get the prints I want, the size I want, and the quantity I want at any time I want.

The paper used in the P-400 is thick, very similar to normal photographs, and instead of the photographs having a brand name on the back side such as "Kodak", it reads "Olympus". The finished photograph also automatically receives a clear protective high gloss coating that does make the print feel and appear to be a developed photo. Unless a person has considerable experience with photography, they will not be able to tell the difference between a regular photo and one printed from the P-400. The actual cost per print-out is around $2.00 (paper and ribbon costs combined), which is not bad at all for an 8x10 or four 4x5 photographs. Advertised life of prints is about the same as regular photographs, around 50 years or more, which is far better than just a year or two with bubble-jet printers.

Changing the ribbon and paper is fast, clean, and very easy. Software installation is also quick and uncomplicated. The user friendly printer actually is a `plug and play'.

Though the P-400 has a normal printer parallel port, I highly recommend only using the USB port. The time required to transfer data from the computer to the printer usually only takes several seconds per photograph while using the USB, but it may take minutes through the LPT1 cable. With about two minutes from clicking "print" to receiving a finished 8x10 photograph, the speed is more than pleasing. The printer is fast enough and simple enough that I have not yet found a need to use the Smart Card slot nor even any of the other console controls. Through use of most any photo or graphics program, print-outs are as easy as `view and print'.

The only problem I have encountered was when the printer was new and the plastic ribbon roll rod would occasionally bind in the ribbon holder slot (caused by too tight of tolerances). I was able to trim off the holder's excess plastic to allow the ribbon to turn more freely, and after speaking to the Olympus technical support describing the problem and remedy (of which they were appreciative for the information), surely the new models will no longer have similar minor problems.

Three years ago I paid over one thousand dollars for the P-400 on sale, and I have never regretted the cost. Recently I was able to print-out numerous specially-formatted 8x10 copies of my daughter's college graduation, which if done through a photographer would have cost me more than the price of the printer. Today's prices are very reasonable, enough that my wife has begun saying she wants one for herself. In our high-tech low-cost society, not many items produce true quality results, but the Olympus P-400 is one product that actually does live up to our best expectations. Highly recommended, I know of no better desk-top photo printer than the Olympus P series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great photo printer for the commited digital photographer
I've been printing 3.2 megapixel images on this and they're virtually indistinguishable from a "real" photo, even at the 7.64x10" full size (7.7 megapixel as advertised in the printer information) resolution. Don't believe the inkjet monkeys who tell you that an inkjet can produce comparable prints - they can't.

I chose this printer over the others available because of the size it is capable of printing, the better color-handling (for instance, the sony dye-subs tend to skew towards overly bright and red tones), and the recommendations of hard-core photo people.

Things you should know about this printer: when all is said and done, you can find this printer for under three hundred, and 100 prints are going to run you about a buck sixty five each (for a single 8x10) if you shop around. If you want smaller, cheaper photos, just print two or four up on a sheet, get 4 prints out of it on a sheet for about 40 cents each. Get out the scissors, and enjoy. Horray.

The printer has been having EXTREME difficulty printing directly from a smart media card - I don't like printing two-dollar blank pages - I've only had consistent success printing via USB connection to my 'puter, but it's a lot faster than printing from the smart media card anyway, so no real loss there - just something to keep in mind.

Reviewers have noted that the ink ribbon can be difficult to install. I don't really agree - olumpus' packaging makes this a straight forward procedure - it's just a little more work than the plug-in-the-inkjet-cartridge laziness we've all become accustomed to.

The printer is rather large and heavy, but you have to understand this was really initially intended as a professional's printer. It is solidly built, has a real feeling of quality construction. Just make sure if your living space is small that you've hollowed out a suitably sized location - think of it like a 16" monitor and you're working along the right lines size and space-wise.

For those with a mac (like me - running OS X 10.3), Olympus is seriously lagging on making a compatible driver. I wrote them and got a swift but lackluster response (no deadline for producing a driver). After printing several blank pages directly from my memory card and freaking out, I found the solution: do a google search for "Gimp-print," an open source & free driver bundle for the mac that runs under 10.3, and powers this printer just fine (so far - haven't tested with photoshop yet - only iPhoto, but I suspect it'll do just fine). It's free. Yay. Problem solved, no thanks to Olympus.

For those of you looking at this printer vs the P-440, the newer version of this printer, the differences are relatively minor (though the 440 does do TRUE 8x10 prints). They use the same paper and ink ribbons, so presumably olympus has a vested interest in continuing to make consumeables for this hardware.

Driver bitterness aside, the quality coming out of this printer had me jumping up & down once the photos started coming out. I'm really pleased, and the overall quality of the prints is enough to let me overlook the negatives, which have all been temporary. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

We're definitely taking this along with us the next time we shop for a house. Though it takes a little effort to master the collection of financial worksheets available on the Texas Instruments BA II Plus, you'll be glad you invested the time and money in this fine financial calculator.

The BA II Plus operates in standard calculator and worksheet modes. The standard mode lets you perform common math as well as operations involving the time value of money--that is, applications such as mortgages or annuities in which payments are equal and evenly spaced. You can also perform trigonometric functions in standard mode.

The more hard-core worksheet mode includes tables for amortization, bond, depreciation, and compound interest. If you're not familiar with such calculations, the very helpful user's manual will guide you through the process. All previous worksheet values are stored in memory, so you don't have to retype all the bond maturity or cash flow analysis figures.

The average user who wants to calculate a basic loan payment will be more comfortable working in the standard calculator mode. We were using the BA II Plus tools for calculating basic interest and payment periods within minutes. Still, it's good to know that the more advanced features are available for those who require heavy-duty financial computing.

Finance students and average users alike will find much to like in the Texas Instruments BA II Plus. --John Frederick Moore ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A first look at the New Look TIBA2+
    VALUE PERFORMER GETS NEW LOOK
BA2+ users may like to know that Texas Instruments has released a "new look" TI BA2+ (allow me to call it it BA2+N), which may come with just more than cosmetic improvements over the popular BA2+.

    IMPROVED LCD DISPLAY
I was able to observed from a short distant away that the LCD display of the BA2+N,is clearer and more contrasty than the orginal BA2+ which I own. TI gets a thumbs up for doing this improvement quietly plus giving a facelift to this already highly regarded value for money business-financial electronic calculator.

DID TEXAS INSTRUMENT KILLED SOME BUGS IN THE BA2+?
Although I have not yet been able to test the BA2+N, TI may have also incorporated some improvements and killed some bugs on the popular BA2+. It is also probable that some improvements or new functions incorporated on the September 2004 released BA2+ Professional (BA2+PRO) may also have been also incorporated into the specs of BA2+N.

I would like to believe that some small but extremely annoying bugs of the "original" BA2+ has been quietly fixed on the BA2+N. In particular, I wish to see the "Reset" button nuisance which clears all user input formatting on the BA2+ has been done alway with. Most users of BA2+ would know that an accident user soft reset would return to the default Number of Periods per year P/Y to 12, this would upset the results of many TVM calculations when user has set the P/Y to "1" to use the calculator in "number of periods" instead.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT WOES ON THE BA2+
I was not able to exam a unit of the BA2+N to see if end users would still need a screw driver to unscrew and pry open the BA2+ casing just to replace the CR2032 battery. It would be nice if TI would incorporate a user accessible slide open battery compartment for the BA2+N or future upgrades of the BA2+.

    MY RECOMMENDATION
Would be buyers should get hold of the BA2+N or buy the BA2+PRO if you have a bigger budget. Budget conscious users could see that for the price of a BA2+ PRO, a screw driver and spare batteries, new users could afford to purchase for themselves two sets of BA2+N.

An advantage of having a spare BA2+N set on hand is that users could free themselves from the trouble of carrying a philips screwdriver and replacement lithium batteries to important assignments or to the examination centre.

HOW DIFFERENT DOES THE BA2+N LOOKS? I have downloaded the BA2+N JPEG picture from TI's calculator site and posted it to the Amazon's picture gallery.

IMPORTANT NOTE:I have commented on the BA2+N as an end user and I don't work for TI, HP or any of the manufacturers for the products which I have used, reviewed and posted my comments on the pages of Amazon.com. It is my pleasure to be able to share my first look at the BA2+N with you, thanks for reading!

3-0 out of 5 stars CFA users Choose TI BAII Plus
This review is directed toward those taking the CFA exams. The TI BA II plus calculator is more straight forward than the HP 12C for the range of questions asked on the CFA.The BA II Plus calculates faster than the HP, and is less expensive.

If you need the button quality and durablity of the HP 12C unit, upgrade and buy the TI BA II Plus "professional" - this unit has a brushed aluminum case and buttons similar to a HP 12C and costs around $50 - similar to a HP 12C.

When doing uneven cash flow problems the registers to the TI are all labeled so you can quickly enter data giving greater confidence with improved speed to your answers for NPV and IRR calculations.

I still have two or three HP 12C's around, but they aren't as intuitive as the TI for the CFA Exam.If you are taking the exam - the TI is the way to go.

3-0 out of 5 stars man, this thing's annoying
If not for the fact that this calculator is required for the CFA i don't know why anyone would buy it.
It takes many, many keystrokes to get simple things done, and let's face it, in the real world i'd much rather work out a complex NPV calculation in excel where i can see what i'm doing step by step rather than some arcane series of keystrokes where one mispressed key will screw everything up.
Also, my unit suffered from poor battery life, which i assume is a manufacturing defect.
A word of advice for students who can use a more advanced calculator: get a ti-83 or similar, learn to use it, and you'll be much happier. I find myself using the ti-83 i got in college rather than my financial calculator all the time. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waist your money...
Last fall www.Amazon.com was running a number of Kitchen promotions. They were also running specials on Laura Glass products, when you buy one item, they gave you another for free.I took advantage of the saving and ended up wasting my money.Days after unpacking my oil and vinegar set, I notice a crack spidering from where the handle joined the bottle.Unfortunately I threw out the packaging so I could not send it back to www.Amazon.com.Keep in mind that the oil server was unused and was not broken when it arrived. So, when I received my set of milk and sugar dish, I thoroughly inspected the items for cracks and found none.I ran them through the dishwasher (top shelf if that matters) and when I removed the milk server from the dishwasher, I noticed cracks forming around where the handle joined the body.So I packaged it up and sent it back to www.Amazon.com for a replacement.A few weeks later, when I received the replacement set, I once again washed them in the dishwasher and found no cracks.Days later, cracks were beginning to spider from the handle, and once again, I threw away the packaging so I could not get a replacement from www.Amazon.com.I contacted www.Amazon.com about my problem and they informed me that there was an obvious problem and that they could not send me a replacement until further review.I have not received a resolution from www.Amazon.com, and will not spend another dime on Laura Glass products. ...
