4-0 out of 5 stars A word of caution
Apple needs to improve quality control and product support. The superdrive stopped working when laptop was 6 weeks old.Sent to Apple repair on April 4 and was informed 5 days later after I called that replacement wouldn't be available until end of April. New Superdrive could be quality control problem like permanent white spots on screens and batteries that catch fire of earlier models. Pity, because everything else about the machine is simply superb.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Holy Grail of Laptop Computing
I have a friend of a friend who works at an Apple store and just recenlty he let me play with all the new stuff, some old stuff too and here is my impression of the new, improved 15 inch PowerBook. First off, and I feel like shouting this, but I won't, "It's about time Apple put out a computer that had enough memory in it to actually run it!" I have an old G3, 14 inch iBook and right off the bat I had to buy more memory, bumping it up to 640 megs, so knowing this baby comes with 512 right out the door, will bring a sigh of relief to anybody thinking of buying one.

The screen on this baby is gorgeous, no reading glasses for me here. This machine is svelte and sleek, comes with Airport Extreme built in. Has all the usual ports, plus FireWire 800 and it's crowning jewel, in my humble opinion, is the backlit keyboard. Apple claims it's ten times brighter than the old model. I can attest to the fact that it's brighter, but ten times, I don't know, I didn't see it. However, it's plenty bright enough to work in the dark. This 1.67 GHz model comes with a Superdrive and a scrolling trackpad (which I didn't mention in my other reviews). I found the trackpad scrolling business to be a little annoying, but no matter you can turn it off in System Prefs if you want. However, I imagine once you get used to it, one might find it darned handy.

Compared to my aging, but still working like a champ iBook, this baby screams. And the 80 gig hard drive gives you plenty of room to load up those MP3s to play in iTunes.

This, in my opinion, is not only the best PowerBook of the bunch, but the best laptop ever made. It is truly the Holy Grail of laptop computing. Apple has really gone and got it right this time.

Had to return an hp laptop because it refused to cooperate.ProTools Le was too much for it.
    I didn't want a powerbook, I needed one.
The blend of beauty and pleasure shocked me when I booted it up the first time.
Slipped in the gig of pc 2700 ram with no problems.
    It hasn't complained once.
The superdrive is super-intuitive and easily backed up a full dvd in as much time as my pc would burn files to cd-r.
All my peripherals are compatible with osx.3.8 (which I had to download from apple...breezy.)
I'm enjoying the interface, a lot less clicks and menus to access files.
Got giggly about the zoom feature for the display.
When's the last time your pc made you smile?

In short, my g4 is the perfect houseguest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a painless experience on XP, but I got it to work...
Well, now I'm impressed. It took a while, but I'm there.I can now play music from my computer on iTunes via my stereo, which is rooms away.I'm very happy with this development, so the Airport Express gets 4 stars for its functionality. The experience installing it would get less, if I could split that out somehow.

Everywhere I looked, it said it was easy.It wasn't.I won't say it was hard, just full of guesswork because of the ambiguity of the instructions. The complaints about Apple's documentation in this section are not exaggerated. If you're on Windows XP, the kind soul who wrote the spotlight review on adding the AirPort Express to an existing wireless network deserves major kudos - and perhaps a bottle of wine.

It's really amazing how this has been neglected. There's very little reference to if you have an existing wireless network in Apple's documentation for the AirPort Express. There are two accompanying PDF files (48 and 58 pages in length) that ignore the issue completely, as near as I can tell. One of them is called "Airport Networks for Windows."

The end result is that it's actually easier to pull together a secure home network on Windows XP than it is to add an AirPort Express to that network. That's right, you heard me Mac elitists (and I used to be one of you).I'm also a little disappointed that the cabling didn't come with the unit, cost an extra $40 and includes two cables that I'll likely never use.

Don't believe what a few reviews in this space have said about needing to turn off your firewall.Mine is up and running, and the AirPort Express is fine on my network.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice hardware, but terrible software and documentation
A small wireless access point with the power plug directly attached to it, and an audio-out port to connect to a stereo. That looked exactly like what I wanted.

Well, it turns out to be quite different from what I expected, and very disappointing.

    1. First, you may want to know what this device actually is. The lengthy "manufacturer description" will tell you it is"Driving the Wi-Fi Revolution" and that "AirTunes Unleashes Your Music", but after reading all that advertising crap, you may still be wondering if it is an access point or a router, and how the audio feature actually works. For whatever reason, I assumed it would be a simple access point, and it would be easy to connect it to my existing network. Well, after a lot of research, it is still not completely clear. It does work as a router, but as far as I can tell, it will only work as an access point or range extender with another AirPort base station, in some proprietary mode. If used in an existing wireless network (in "client mode"), the Ethernet port is disabled.

    2. You cannot configure this router through a standard Web interface like all other routers (no telnet either, of course). You must first install a proprietary software for configuration. (Which incidentally also means you cannot configure it from a Linux or other machine. It is Mac or Windows only).

    (...)
    4. You MUST use iTunes to stream music to the AirPort. If you don't like the iTunes player, you are out of luck. iTunes streams a proprietary format to the device ("Apple Lossless Encoding"), which no other player can do.

    5. You must disable any firewall (the Windows XP default firewall or any third party firewall you may have) to enable iTunes to see the AirPort!

    So my conclusion would be:

    (...)
    - If you just wanted a wireless router, there is a huge choice of excellent and cheaper routers, which are easy to set up and require nothing other than your current web browser.

    - If you want a small router to take with you around the world and don't mind disabling your firewall, this compact device may be perfect for you.

The hardware design is indeed very nice: the unit is very small, and the power plug is directly attached to it, but removable. This means you can change the power plug for one adapted to the country you are in. Better yet: if you don't have the right Apple power plug for your country, you can just remove it and use a standard 2-pin power cord, the same type that is used for any non-grounded electronics device.

Too bad they put such crappy software into such a nice hardware, and serve it with completely useless documentation.

4-0 out of 5 stars (Almost) perfect home appliance.
It doesn't get any simpler than that. Plug to the stereo, plug your printer. It works (at least in a Mac environment).

    The defects:
1- The USB connector is way too close to the audio connector. If you use a monster cable with an L-shaped plug, or presumably any other cable with a big plug, you'll end up with the USB connector and the audio plug competing for space and creating pressure.

2- Plugging to the wall? I've not been too happy with plugging the device to a wall socket (okay, so my wall sockets are poor).

    The wish:
I wish I could also connect hard drives on this device. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Apple 23" Cimema Display HD - No Silver lining
In short I returned my 23" Apple Cinema Display and got back the 20" Apple Cinema display I had bought the day before. The 20" was so good, so I reasoned - wow, go get the 23" it will be even better - wrong. The 23" Apple Cinema Display did actually run under Windows XP but the color fidelity was 0/10.It is almost as if the 23" display is built at a lower standard, or that there is no Quality assurance with this product. This was due to 3 things. 1) a pink color cast to all neutral grey/white areas. 2) A noticeable squeeze effect at the edges where the display looked like it an LCD being squashed. In these edge areas the color of white or grey changed to green and was darker.I also noticed a minor shift in hue on many of the grey pixels across the screen from left to right edges.3) A noticeable blur compared to the 20".

My work station area is a mixed Mac/PC affair to maximize productivity and cross platform work.I already run a first generation polycarbonate style 23" Cinema HD for OSX - 2 years now with no drama.I use the PC in Photoshop and wanted a top quality display for scanning Velvia and manipulating large files of 60Mb or more with quick response.I installed a new silver 20" Apple Cinema display to run under Windows XP SP2 using an ATI Sapphire Radeon 9600XT Atlantis 256Mb graphics card and an ASUS A7V8X mainboard. It is a good card for the 20" and the 23" Apple Cinema Displays. The Asus BIOS had to be set to activate the AGP 8x first. The only fault with this combination was that during a hot-restart, the display would remain off (black) and I had to shut down first, then start.Once the display was in this "apple sleep mode - cannot be woken by XP" I could not tell where the XP launch was at and after pressing the restart switch the BIOS would halt at the error report page (I was guessing, the Cinema display was black) so it required a full power-off - disconnect the apple display from the PC card and then start everything again.Otherwise the results were 5 star for the 20" with excellent color accuracy and evenness, brightness and sharpness.I am very experienced with color accuracy in Photoshop and usually have a neutral desktop background so as not to bias any colors which appear on screen around the Photoshop scans I am working on.I found under windows XP that the Adobe gamma panel was not as good as the ATI color panel (right click desktop/properties/settings/advanced/color) where I could make more precise corrections to the lower/mid/upper ranges of the gamma curve by eye.So far the 20" Apple Cinema display was fantastic and I was again marveling at how well Apple engineers can build or subcontract others to built their gear.Time to rush back to the store and get the BIG brother.Wrong - trouble came to town.See 1/2/3 above.I thought the problem was the Ati 9600XT card - so I switched over the display to run as a second monitor on my Mac Ati9000.So now I had the two 23" displays running side by side, one brand new and silver and the other two years old with 60 hours a week under the hood -that's a lot of hours.Well it was then I knew that the NEW 23" Apple Cinema Display was going straight back to the store. It seems obvious that the display was being squashed at the edges thereby changing the colors in a kind of Newton Ring effect you get with a cheap digital watch.

So I am back using the 20" Apple Cinema Display under Windows XP and all is well - 10/10.This is a perfect way to make Windows XP feel like a friend, even when running right next to my old 23" HD in OSX 10.3.By the way the Ati 9600XT 256Mb is very fast in 2D using Photoshop CS.My warning to buyers of the 23" Apple Cinema Display is that you should be very careful.Don't be fooled by the default blue desktop and fancy visuals they run in the retail environment.Check the product in store in a cool and calm way.Open an Application that uses white/grey like Safari and go to google.com.Set the screen to full width, then check out the fidelity of the grey/white at the edges.Interestingly when I reported this problem to the store they did not even question the fault, or open the box, the guy looked a bit sheepish -mumbled some thing which was hard to hear.It sounded like "yeah we have had this problem before".

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware of this product for now (20" or 30" displays are OK)
I have been researching this display on various web sites. It's a beautiful display, but a multitude of people -- on CNET, Amazon, and even the Apple web site's forums -- reported color problems commonly described as "pink casting." The problem is described as pink colors or bars on the sides of the screen, and it does not go away.

One user in the Apple discussion forum, for instance, told of an experience in which their facility purchased ten of these displays. All of them had the same pink casting problem. Those are pretty bad odds.

I should note, by the way, that supposedly this problem does not exist with the 20" or 30" Apple Cinema Displays.

After this research, my decision not to purchase was clinched for me today: I phoned my local Apple store and told an employee of my concern. The employee then put me on hold, spoke to one of Apple's so-called "Geniuses," and returned to the phone to tell me that the Genius said that this is a known problem and that I should probably avoid purchasing the display for now. (He seemed a little embarrassed about telling me this, but told me he wanted to be completely honest with me.) He added that they haven't seen this issue with the 20" or 30" displays.

The strange thing about all of this is that the Apple web site is still selling these displays -- no mention of the pink color casting. But do yourself a favor and check the online forums.

2-0 out of 5 stars Check the return policy on this...
Easily one of the best displays I've ever seen! Unfortunately I've got the color consistency problems, even after Apple has taken the display back for repair.

Make sure that you can return the monitor if you experience these problems as Apple does not yet acknowledge the color problems with this model exist! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The 3-piece Altec Lansing MX5021 delivers full, accurate, THX-certified sound, whether it be a sophisticated cello suite or intense PC game action. Two midrange drivers in each satellite produce extremely responsive sound, while the horn-loaded tweeter offers extra-wide dispersion of those crystal-clear highs. With its auxiliary input jack, you can connect to two different audio sources (such as a CD player and an MP3 jukebox) simultaneously. It has 90 watts of total power (50 watts from the subwoofer and 20 watts from each satellite).

This set also features a control pod for fingertip management on your desktop of bass, treble, and master volume as well as a wireless remote control, a headphone jack for private listening, easy-to-connect color-coded cables, and shielded satellites for use near video monitors.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Design & Power, But Highs Can Be Peircing and Shrilly
I had bought the Altec ATP3 a couple years ago, and since having such a pleasant experience with Altec Lansing hitherto I thought it would prove wise to go out and buy the MX5021.

The build and design is utterly astounding for the price; the satellites complete with high gloss finish, sexy curves, and silver cones rimmed with black. The subwoofer however does not have the piano-quality gloss to it, but I could hardly care as I hardly ever look beneath my desk anyhow. But nonetheless the subwoofer is by no means unattractive.

The subwoofer complements the overall power of the system perfectly. It yields to the challenge of almost all classic rock tracks, though I am not sure about other genres--but I am sure it performs just as eloquently.

However, I do have one glaring gripe about this otherwise flawless speaker set. The high's can become utterly piercing at times--even lowering the midrange spectrum with an equalizer does not help the matter but merely makes it only bearable, though overtly uncomfortable. I find this strikingly odd as the set is THX certified and it should by all means not have blatant offshoot like this. However, I have noted a couple online review sites had taken noticed of this but only passed it off as a marginal, "fixable" annoyance. Perhaps, giving the benefit of the doubt, that I am placing the speakers to close to my listening vantage (about 2/3 of a metre at least) or the room I have them set in is too small. Though I have tried distancing myself as far as I could from the speakers, the highs were still noticeably shrilly to my ears. Nonetheless, Multimedia speakers SHOULD be designed in a way that they are suitable to be placed relatively close to the listener. I am very disappointed about this aspect of the speakers that otherwise mars a perfect audio system.

Future buyers beware, have a good listen to the system at retail store before buying--you may just be wasting your time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful System Marred By One Flaw
It's too bad I had to take this computer speaker set back to the store I bought it from.I was in love with every aspect of it's design. But the Altec Lansing MX 5021 had a problem I just couldn't ignore.

First let me explain that I went through a great deal of effort researching the perfect speakers for my computer. This seemed like the best set in my price range. The speaker wattage amount was far above average. The subwoofer had enough power output to satisfy me.The smooth, black finish on the surface of the components looked professional.Even the little blue lights on the control device were pretty.Everything about this system was excellent.

Except there was a significant amount of hissing coming from the satellite speakers.Hissing is the sound you hear from any speaker that is on but no audio is coming out at the time. You usually have to put your ear right up to the speaker to hear it.But with this set, it's loud enough to hear from 3 feet away. That is totally unacceptable to me.Speakers should be dead silent if no audio is being played.Otherwise it becomes a major distraction, at least for me.

I'm an audiophile with sensitive hearing, so I'm guessing that's why nearly every other reviewer here doesn't mention the hissing problem. After I took the set back I listened to another Altec Lansing set that was on display. It had the same abnormally loud hissing!Draw your own conclusion from that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all, but COME ON people, stop exaggerating!
These "sound like $1000 hi-fi speakers?"They're "as good as hi-fi speakers with separate components?"My cereal almost ended up all over my monitor when I read that one.Either that reviewer has never gone anywhere NEAR a thousand dollar speaker set or they're new hires in the Altec Lansing PR department and are pushing really hard for that corner cubicle office!

My officemate has these at work, and while I do enjoy them (since he always plays music during work hours, luckily we have similar tastes) to call them anything more than "very good computer speakers" would really be insulting to true hi-fi speakers that do cost several times more.

I like the fact that these do have two drivers on the satellites unlike my one-driver Logitech Z-2200 satellites---the extra driver does afford a bit more finesse and clarity, though of course these cost twice as much as what I paid for my Logitechs. Are they really TWICE as good?Hmmm, I don't know about that...

The downside to these is that they can't match my Logitechs' power, they have about half the RMS.So at moderate levels they do sound crisper but as soon as you crank them you will start to hear clipping and distortion at above 60% volume. The subwoofer on the Altec Lansing is also muddier and slower than the one on my Logitech, on bass-heavy jazz tracks I can hear the low end lagging behind a bit there.

I also like the more refined, conservative styling of these speakers as opposed to the funky, space-age look of the Logitechs.Still, for all the extra cash I'd expect at least equal power and a better subwoofer than the Z-2200.For that reason I'm giving this one a 3, if it were about fifty bucks less I'd give it a 4 easily.

Either way both this and the Logitech 2.1 system are far smarter and better-performing choices than those hideously overpriced Bose speakers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars get this printer!
My PIXMA ip6000d arrived yesterday, and I have only printed three photos so far--two from a digital camera and one from a scanned print. But I am ecstatic and amazed at the quality I see. These photos are better prints than I have received from photo labs recently! The clarity of one image of my pet cockatiel on my shoulder is so detailed, that the texture of my t-shirt fabric is visible!Absolutely astounding!

Two of the photos I've printed were both taken with a Canon digital camera, but the third was from a B&W print scanned to my computer, and I can't tell the difference from the scanned print-out to the original photograph. In this case, I feel that regardless of your brand of digital camera, quality will still be outstanding.

My plans are to use this printer specifically for photo printing, so right now, I can't speak for document quality, but if you're looking for a photo-only printer, go no further.I can't recommend this printer highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget Epsons!!
I've had many models of the Epsons in the past. Luckily, I purchased the additional warranty from the store I purchased them from. Within a few months, I was always bringing my Epson back to the store for malfunctions such as ink splattering, cranking noises, ink clogs, and the paper feed was just rediculous! Everytime, the store told me that I was able to just get a new printer from the shelf in exchange, and I always picked an Epson because of all the hype about how wonderful they are with photo printing, and how they're "supposedly" the best photo printers on the market. So with the last one, I decided to go with something other than Epson and came across this Canon. I couldn't be happier!!! Pictures turn out fantastic, its fast, color quality is faboulous, not noisey, and the ink doesn't clog or splatter. I love it so much that I purchased one for my mother so she can start printing.Overall, a fantastic printer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great printer!
I purchased this printer to use with my Kodak Easy Share camera back in November.I was surprised at the quality of the photos.I would recommend using Canon photo paper as the pictures looked the best on that.HP paper works well too.I also agree with the reviewer who said not to use Kodak photo paper with this printer. The pictures are very dull.I have printed more than 100 4 x 6 prints on this.Mostly, I print by inserting the memory card, but I've printed photos from the computer and directly from the camera.I couldn't see any difference in the quality. I printed an 8 x 10 print right from the memory card and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of that as well.I also like the fact that it has 6 ink tanks.I've just had to replace the two original photo inks, the regular inks are still going strong.Replacing one or two at a time is much easier on the pocket book!It is also nice to be able to print photos without having to power up the computer.Over all I'm very pleased with this printer and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys photography as a hobby. ... I have always been skeptical of printers - it seems that whenever you need them most they malfunction. This is not the case for the HP LaserJet 1160. I have waited over 1 month from purchase to do this review just to make sure that it continued to deliver its fine performance... and it has!

What I like about the 1160

    - VERY fast - even the most complex documents are printed in a matter of seconds.

    - Extremely Quiet - the 1160 runs almost without any type of noise... just a low hum and *poof* your document is printed.

    - To date (knock on wood) I have not had a single jam! This is unheard of... no paper jams!

    - Great value - with the rebate the 1160 cost about $250, which seemed like an exceptional value.

    - Setting-up and connecting to my laptop was a breeze.

In short, in the one month that I have owned the 1160- I do not have a single complaint. Trust me... I NEVER thought I would say that about any printer. This is the one printer you can buy and not have to worry about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Value
I'm delighted with this printer. It's wonderfully compact and fits in tight spaces. The printer quality is excellent and it really feels solid. I expect it to be as reliable and long-lasting as my previous printer, an HP LaserJet 6MP. This printer worked right out of the box with my Macintosh running OS X 10.3.x and I suspect that setup for Windows is equally painless. Yes, it's a little more expensive than comparable laser printers, but I think that over time the slighly greater inital investment will have been worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent SoHo (Small office/Home office) Printer
    Pros:
    - Dramatically improved design
    - Improved print quality
    - Speedy output
    - Small footprint
    - Solid paper handling

    Cons:
    - More expensive than competitors
    - Cryptic LED status lights
    - Does not accept higher capacity toner
    - Flimsy single-sheet multipurpose input tray
    - Poorly written printer driver and installer
    - No printed manual (only PDF file on the CD)

HP LaserJet 1160 is a feature-stripped version of LaserJet 1320, replacing LaserJet 1150 and LaserJet 1300, respectively. 1160 and 1320 share the same engine and chassis (1320 features white-with-black-accents whereas 1160 is all-white). Perhaps the most dramatic change from 1150 and 1300 is a redesigned chassis. They no longer resemble DeskJet's L-shape box with protruding input paper tray, infamous for causing paper to curl up if many sheets are stacked on its output bin. Both 1160 and 1320 now look more professional and spiffier, all the while occupying even less desk space.

More subtle but just as dramatic is improved print quality. 1150 and 1300 were criticized for worse print quality than their predecessor (LaserJet 1200). 1160 restores the former glory with improved print quality. Graphics and photo outputs look noticeably smoother than LaserJet 1150 and 1300 with less noticeable dithering. Text looks sharp, and it looks slightly better defined in 600 dpi with FastRes 1200 turned off (graphics look far better with it turned on, however).

If you need more reasons to justify 10% price increase over 1150, how about 10% faster print speed? With double the memory (16 MB vs. 8 MB) and smaller footprint (measures about 14 inches by 14 inches vs. 16 inches by 19 inches), 1160 represents a superior value.

That said, 1160 could've been better. 1160 loses 1150's 10-sheet multipurpose input tray (1160 accepts only 1 sheet at a time). And multipurpose single sheet input tray feels a bit flimsy, although 250-sheet input tray feels very sturdy and should last a long time. And according to HP, 1160 can accept only the standard capacity toner (prints 2,500 pages at 5% coverage). Also disappointing are LED status lights (LCD alphanumeric display would have been more informative).

I have 1160 connected to Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (via USB port) so that I can print wirelessly. Apple PowerBook G4 (Mac OS X 10.3.5), IBM ThinkPad A31 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2), and Compaq Presario X1000 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2) notebooks share the network and printer.

Included Windows installer did not make installation process any easy. If the printer is NOT directly connected to the computer via USB or parallel port, it will not let you install the driver (Mac OS X installer is more forgiving). Network detect feature did not work and I suspect it works only with JetDirect option. After reading the manual on the CD, I have discovered a workaround. Manually add the printer as a local printer, create a new TCP/IP port and specify wireless router's IP address (10.0.1.1 in my case), then click "Have Disk" to install the driver manually. The manual points to wrong directory path. The correct path for English-based Windows XP driver is English\Drivers\Win2003_XP\PCL5.

The driver is not any better. It is not that printer driver itself is that bad (although I have found few minor bugs). My issue is with hp toolbox, an application that supplements the driver. It is written in Java with embedded Apache web server (talk about bloated!). It feels rather sluggish with ugly interface.

That said, the printer works well and hp toolbox should not detract you from using the printer to full potential. And Mac OS X support is nice. When you print, a photo realistic LaserJet 1160 icon appears on the dock showing which page is printing.

If you are looking for true 1200 dpi printing (1160 prints at 600 dpi, only emulating 1200 dpi via REt and FastRes technologies), expandable memory, PCL 6 and emulated PostScript 2 compatibility (1160 supports only PCL 5e), automatic duplex printing, and higher capacity toner compatibility (6,000 pages at 5% coverage), consider 1320. ... Ok, it looks nice. Sadly, that's all I have good to say about it. On the flip side of the coin:

    1) it feels like mush - if you type a lot, don't get this thing
    2) it eats batteries - I type about 5 pages a day, it goes through a set of four every month or so
    3) it collects dirt - all keyboards do, but this one has an "open top" that makes it happen a lot faster
    4) it stops working - mine's been dead for a few days now, it simply won't sync up

Get an iceKey or an MS Internet Keyboard. Losing a single wire isn't worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Apple Wireless Pro Keyboard Review
I think this is one of the best keyboards on the market. I can type really fast on this and my fingers don't feel tired out after I'm done. Sometimes the wireless connection gets messed up and it doesn't work but most of the time it does. Wireless is awesome on keyboards and I think every computer manufactuer should give their consumers wireless keyboards. You should get a wireless mouse too because you neeed the whole package if you purchase this one. Wireless is good in some ways by that you don't clutter your office with all those wires. This keyboard looks attractive with that top notch Apple design. If you have an Apple computer I would recommend this keyboard instead of the standard USB one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bluetooth Keyboard I've found for Windows XP
I love Amazon.I had bought this keyboard from another computer store because it just looked so cool. Knowing about the way peripherals work, I figured it would work with Windows.I asked the Sales rep and he confirmed my thoughts and said it worked fine.Got it home and the computer recognized it, but I never got any response from the keyboard.Having had Bluetooth difficulties before with Windows, I was resigned to failure. It was sitting on the floor by my chair until I logged onto Amazon and looked it up.After reading the reviews on here, I realized you had to have a passkey for it to work.So I let Windows chose a passkey,I typed it in and hit the "Return" Key and BINGO! It Works perfectly with Windows. I can even use my RF keyboard as a backup at the same time. It is the fastest and most fluid keyboard I've ever used.I type really fast and I always got annoyed with my RF keyboard dropping letters sometimes, but not this keyboard.I can fly on this thing. The range is great, the size is great, the response is great, and to top it all off its very stylish. Not only did Apple include batteries, but high quality Engerizers no less!Kudos to Apple for another well designed product!Maybe one day I'll be able to migrate over all together. ... I had purchased a mini vbluetooth mouse from Iogear. And it kept loosing my signal or not charging. So I returned it and got this mouse.AWESOME. I have had no problems. And since my laptop came blue tooth enabled, I don't need to use the hub, except for to charge the mouse, so i conencted the hub to my other computer so that my laptop and "server" could communicate a little easier.Works Great!Never have any problems with it. EXCEPT.If you don't use the hub to connect your mouse, you cannot use the "switch windows" button on the mouse. Or the quick scrolling buttons, but the side forward and back buttons do work. And they even work in window XP windows, not just on the internet.Even in my Microsoft Money account!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, but Not Excellent Bluetooth Mouse
Pros: Comfortable, precise, and lots of buttons

Cons: Will not fully work without the hub

    Full user opinion
I had no problem conecting to my Dell Inspiron 6000 with built in Bluetooth.

When I installed with the hub connected evertything worked properly. After disconecting the hub you loose some features.

One of the buttons will not work without the hub. You also loose the Mouse properties screen.

It would be nice if everything worked without the hub, but it still works with no wires attached.

I wanted to have a mouse to utilize my bluetooth card, and this does the job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great with 20" iMac G5!
I bought this mouse because I needed a wireless multi-button bluetooth mouse. This mouse works great right out of the box with my Mac.I didn't need to install any software! I love the form factor. The mouse seems to be made specifically for my hand and that gives it a wonderful feel.
The only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is because the mouse is a little heavy and will take some getting use too.Other than that the mouse works as advertised. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality, 100% Accessible, INCREDIBLE RESULTS!
When I was first looking for a new video camera to make my films on, I wasnt even looking at MiniDV. I was actually looking at the $3,000.000 Canon professional DV camera. After hours of searching online, I finally found a video camera that I didnt even expect to buy. The DCR HC90. And, man, am I glad that I bought it! I was really looking for something sleek and professional, with exceptional quality. So I knew that I had to go with Sony. I read previous reviews for this camera, and I was wondering how such amazing quality could come out of something so small. And I didnt even totally realize how small the camera was until I recieved it. I have relatively large hands and the camera is the size of my palm! The camera has a very durable and sleek look to it. If this were a cell phone, it would be like Motorolla's RAZR v3 phone. It is so tiny and compact! The supersteady shot is AMAZING! I was thinking I was going to need a dolly for the set of my new movie, but it turns out that I didnt need one, because the steady shot is so perfect, it naturally looks like I'm panning and dollying. IT'S SO PERFECT! The LCD screen gives off ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURE! And its in TRUE 1.85:1 Widescreen! Which is very helpful for me, considering I am making professional films to send out to big time festivals. The special lens, which does auto focus for you, is absolutely INCREDIBLE! When I hooked my camera up to my TV (which isnt even a hi-def tv), I was blown away with how crystal clear the picture was, and how perfect the focus was. When I was watching the video footage I filmed for my new feature, my friends walked in, and asked me what DVD I was watching because the quality is so unbelievably perfect! All of the features are listed on the camera's LCD touch screen, which impressed many of my cast and crew on the set of my film. (I reccomend a screen protector, just because you are going to constantly touch the screen.) The touch screen is 100% perfect with no flaws! It even has little cartoons that show you what the camera will do! Absolutely stunning! I also bought the compatible 4 channel wide stereo microphone. THE AUDIO IS CRYSTAL CLEAR! YOU COULD LITERALLY HEAR A PIN DROP! The compatiblity between the microphone and camera is exceptional! The camera lets you choose what type of audio you want to record, and records it in its original, pristine condition. It sounds EXACTLY like if you were back at your filming location. And looks exactly like you ARE THERE!
This camera does EXTREMELY well with computer hookups for digital editing. My previous camera lost alot of quality in the camera to computer transfer, and with the HC90, I dont lose one speck of color, or one beat of sound! ITS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! THIS CAMERA IS A MUST BUY FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A HIGH QUALITY, EXTREMEMLY EASY TO USE, AND REWARDING VIDEO CAMERA! My new film actually looks like it was filmed on 35mm, and it is impressing many people when I pull out the camera, they are blown away with the exceptional quality of this little camera!
    WORTH EVERY PENNY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Camcorder Works Like a Dream
I picked this little gem up at the Sony store less than a month ago. They had all their camcorder models lined up on the shelf and the HC90 stood out like a Beauty Queen on a Catwalk. The overall design is an aesthetic masterpiece and fits ever-so perfectly in the palm of one's hand. It is super light weight and you can carry it around effortlessly for hours (it is compact enough to fit in your trouser pocket). All the basic controls are easily accessible to thumb and fingers, and it couldn't be easier to operate.
This is my first camcorder so I was under the impression that I would have some intensive study of the included manual ahead of me. I was mistaken. All I had to do was skim the first few pages and I was off and running (albeit in Easy Mode).
I have read some critical reviews of Sony camcorders bemoaning their compatibility with third party components, such as PC's. Nothing further could be from the truth! I own a Mac Powerbook. I took a few snaps in Picture Mode and the USB cable loaded them seamlessly into iPhoto. I picked up a cheap 4 to 6 pin Firewire cable at RadioShack, connected the device to my Powerbook and iMovie instantly downloaded the widescreen video footage without any prompting. And it was the same ease of operation in connecting it to my TV, my VCR and my DVD player. I can honestly say that I have never encountered a piece of high technology that operated with such ease and joyful simplicity. I have already shot hours of video without further consulting of the manual and the included software disc remains in its sealed envelope. This little gem seems almost organic in its construction and operation.
At 3.3 MP, the still photos are quite excellent and the panoramic option is a real cool feature. The video is superb. I live out in the forest and I can only describe the image quality as true to life. The built in microphone is excellent. When I reviewed some footage shot out in the swamp it was as though the bull frogs were singing right in my living room! The only drawback is that it amplifies anything stronger than a light breeze, but I found that this can be minimized by closing the LCD display and taking advantage of the camcorders sleek exterior design.
The battery life can also prove irksome if you like extended shootings. But for a modest investment you can purchase a battery with twice the life.
Do I like my new DCR-HC90 Camcorder? No! I absolutely LOVE it!!!It is so portable and easy to use that you can just take it everywhere without even thinking about it, and it attracts looks of admiration and envy wherever it goes.
The one I bought was the last one in stock. The salesman whom attended to me said the model was selling like hot cakes, and even though it was the priciest item on display, they were literaly flying off the shelves into the eager hands of happy customers. It is easy to see why.I have a Canon G6, a fine device in its own right. Since I acquired my HC90, it is more or less collecting cobwebs in a forgotten corner of my cabin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, HI Res., 16:9Camcorder
I did quite a bit of homework before purchasing the HC-90. I wanted High quality DV in a 16:9 format. I own a 42" Sony LCD HDTV and I wanted sharp, high quality performance.

Other factors for me: Solid build (exterior), and good quality parts (interior). Firewire, size, ease of use, MiniDv, and price.

Things that I got but didn't expect:

size- When the package arrived, I was surprised at the size of the box it came in. It is small. When I opened the box, I was even more surprised at the size of the camera. I was expecting something compact but this little camera is small. I own a JVC MiniDV camera and it is about twice the size and 4 times as heavy. I wanted a small camera but thought that I would have to sacrifice some functionality for size. Well, I didn't. I don't think that I would want a smaller camera or it would start becoming difficult to push the correct buttons without looking around the camera first.

Still shots- I have read some comments that this camera doesn't take quality still pictures. I didn't buy it for that but this camera takes really nice photographs and in 16:9 format so it is just like having a wide angle lens. If you email your images or make DVD slide shows, this camera can take some quality shots. I have email some of the pictures to family and I had to resize them all to make them a lot smaller in dimension and subsequently, the images became sharper and details stood out. The flash works just as well as any other still digital camera I have owned. More than adequate for emailing or sharing on the web. I will be leaving my Olympus still camera behind on family outings because the HC-90 can take its place.

Motor function- I was simply amazed at the motor and function of the motorized parts in this camera. This thing is fast. Really fast. My JVC is a 3 year old piece of clunky crap compared to the HC-90. When you are playing back a movie and want to scan forward quickly, there is no waiting around for it to change gears, it does it instantly. The push button LCD is very responsive and the camera will take commands without clunking and whining. It rewinds very quickly. It sounds solid and it performs. I am most pleased with this surprise.

    Things I expected (the good)

The video quality- So far it has been awesome. As I said earlier, I own a 42" Sony Widescreen and to see the entire screen filled with video is a delight for me. The colors are rich and the details are fine enough to satisfy me. The camera seems to handle 16:9 perfectly. My wife was astonished at the quality when she first saw it. I used the camera in low light mainly. Dimly lit rooms with lamps. The steady shot works great, giving a flowing look to video when you are walking around. The colors remained bright in low lit areas and in the sun, colors are rich. I messed around with some of the features and they all look good. My wife is a point and shoot person and I taught her to push the easy mode button and she was off. No teaching her how to use it. Common sense is all you need.

Dumping DV to my MAC G4 PowerBook- I plugged it in via firewire, IMovie picked up the camera instantly and I began dumping DV as well as editing. That was all there was to it. I haven't even looked at the software that Sony sent. IMovie also recognized the 16:9 ratio and set up my project accordingly. Quick Time and the Sorenson 3 codec had to be fed the aspect ratio manually. I have to figure out pixel sizes with a calculator. I plugged in the USB cable to the camera and my MAC and the MAC mounted the volume and imported my images flawlessly. I also did the same with my WINXP PC. Just plugged in the USB cable and Voila. It showed up as a new drive in My Computer.

I also used the HC90 for ICHAT on my MAC laptop. The guy on the other end said he got great video from me. The chat session was between Hawaii and Ireland.

Build Quality - Awesome. There is NO creaking (like my JVC). The camera is ergonomically great for my hands and my wife also agrees. All of the buttons are in the right place. The touch panel LCD is wonderful for me. It is solid and I don't worry about it ripping off when opening it and when you close it, it makes a satisfying thud like it was meant to be slammed shut in a hurry. The top loading of the tapes is great. No need to lay the camera on its side or anything like that. I can change the tape while the camera is plugged in to fire wire and the power simultaneously. The camera is very light but built very, very well. I am totally pleased with the build quality. It feels like a Sony. The zoom button is light or easy to manipulate but it can either zoom slowly or very quickly. It is quite sensitive and took a little getting used to. My old JVC felt like it was going to crumble in my hand and the mechanisms seemed so fragile but this camera feels like it can be handled with less apprehension.

Things that could be an issue but not as of yet.

The pry open plastic doors for cable plug in access - To charge the battery, you have to pry open one of the plastic covers to access the inputs. I can understand that these covers protect the jacks from dirt, etc. Some have said that they may easily become detached in the future. I beg to differ. My JVC has the same type of protective covers and I have not broken them off in 3 years. I was always prying on them because I am always plugging firewire, etc in to the ports. They never broke and most likely never will. I think the hinge is that annoying plasic that never breaks no matter how much you flex it. The more you use the covers, the more plyable they becaome and easier to access. The sony covers are good quality and I doubt these will ever be an issue. It is somewhat inconvienient to charge the camera because you have to open the cover first. The stand alone chargers are not that expensive and I purchased a spare battery so it might be worth getting the charger.

Memory Stick Pro - I spent a bunch of money for a Memory stick original for my Sony Still camera and it will not work in this DV Camcorder. The little one that they sent in not adequate. Looks like I will have to buy another one soon. I wish I did not.

Lens cover - This camera has a shutter that opens when you turn the power on so that you don't have to fiddle with lens covers. I absolutely love this feature but, dirt, sand, crap can collect in that area even though the lens will be protected. There are threads there for lenses and filters. There should have been a plain glass lens there to occupy and protect that area from the elements. I will most likely get a cheap filter to screw in there and protect the fine threads.

All in all, I love this little camera and I am sure that my family will enjoy it for years to come. Between this, my 12" MAC PowerBook, my 42" Sony HDTV, and living in Hawaii, I think I have what I need for ample amounts of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dual purpose camera for pictures and videos
I am not going to write a long review since the others have done an excellent job with that.

I just want to point out that with this camera you don't really need a handycam video camera anymore since it takes very good videos with sound at 640x480 resolution at 30 frames per second.Using Windows Movie Maker you can create your own movies and email them in compressed format to your friends. That is much more versatile than working with a Handycam.

The main drawback on the video function is that you can't zoom while filming. So I suggest taking several clips and stitching them together later with Windows Movie Maker. With that software a 1 minute video is only 5 MB in wmv format (or whatever size you want), so it can be easily emailed alongside your pictures.

I suggest getting a 1 GB SD Card with it if you plan on taking lots of movies. They really have come down in price.Make sure you get a "high speed card" (45x or faster).Compared to similar Sony cameras, the Canon uses much cheaper non proprietary SD memory and has a viewfinder to save batteries.

This camera is so small that you can carry it with you at all times taking pictures and video anywhere you go.What good is a camera if you don't have it with you when the perfect Kodak moment is in front of you?

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this camera!!!
I have always had Canon's for my digital cameras, and recently received the Sd400 as a gift to replace my digital elph.I have nothing but good things to say about this camera. The size is amazing. The shutter speed is fantastic and I love the new version of the ZoonBrowser. The movie feature works fabulously.I can't wait to get a bigger SD card to start taking more pictures. The 16 MB one that comes with it isn't even worth the cost of making it.Your going to have to get a bigger one, obviously.I would highly recommend this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, recommend to everyone
No other camera can come close on the color accuracy and quality in this price range. This just has to be the best pocket-sized camera on the market. I tested Everything, and the only other camera that caught my eye was a larger Kodak (Z/DX)7590, but that one is much larger. Armed with a large SD card (gotta love those things better than CF) and a LI battery (too bad they make you buy them extra), this just has to be an unbeatable camera in it's class. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I waited.
I have wanted an iPod for a long time, and was planning on getting the 20gig B&W.Not that there's anything wrong withthe 20gig version, but for just a few dollars more, you can get the 30gig version.I have not put any pictures on the iPod, but its nice to know you have the capability of doing so.I apprecite the color screen, even if it is just for making the music slelection. The include iTunes software is pretty awesome. It took a little time to copy almost 300 CD's to my computer, but the iTunes interface between the computer and the iPod always updates the iPod with no hassles.I have used about 17gog, so, with the 30gig iPod, I will never have to worry about running out of space. The iPod is also very versatile.I hav an adaptor to play it through my boom box, and an adaptor to play it through my car's cassette player. It makes long drives very bearable. Finally, I like the way the iPod autmatically organizes all of your music, by artist, composer, genre, album, etc......The shuffle function, and the playlists are also great. This is one of my best purchases.

5-0 out of 5 stars iPod Photo: near perfect
I have used three different iPod models since they were released a few years ago. They keep improving with age and iPod Photo is almost flawless. What's great about this model:
    1. previously, I had problems with battery life dissipating after a month or so of use (and I use mine hard; it's on at least six hours a day), but that hasn't happened with this one. I find that I get right around 18--eighteen!--hours of battery life on a charge. However, if I go two or more days between use, the battery runs itself down to almost nothing;
    2. the vibrant colors are a wonderful change. Compared to the iPod Photo, the old black-and-white models look positively antiquated. The font on the Photo is updated as well;
    3. to my untuned ear, I cannot tell the difference between what I hear on my earbuds and the CD the music came from. Sound quality is, as always, excellent;
    4. the price drop. I paid $399 for my last 40g model and $349 for this 30g iPod Photo, a superior product; and
    5. picture quality on the iPod is quite (surprisingly) good. It's like carrying an entire photo album with me. I have over 2,200 songs and 1,300 photos stored on my machine and it's still more than half empty.

    What I'm not crazy about:
    1. I'm not sure how the album art is stored; namely, why some have it and others don't. Anything downloaded from iTunes will have it, and some stuff from my own music collection does, too, but I can't figure out a pattern and have been too lazy to research it. Less than half of my music has album art to display;
    2. I know that the "random" feature is the result of a complex algorithm and has, in fact, been proven to be truly random, but my iPod has a propensity for picking certain tracks while never playing others;
    3. to lower the price, Apple's skimped on the accessories that come included with the iPods. In this model, no dock or case as were provided as when I bought my 40g b-&-w model;
    4. the display on iPods scratch ridiculously easily. I recommend picking up an iSkin which is a colorful jacket that fits over the iPod and comes with a screen protector that works really well. Apple sells these for about $30 but they can be had on eBay for a third of the cost; and
    5. no way to delete songs directly from the iPod and no way to load photos onto the machine. Both of these things must be done from a computer.

A quick word on Apple's customer service: if you register your iPod with them, you can request repairs or replacement parts for accessories at (usually) no charge within a year of purchase. So when your earbuds begin to fray (and they will), you can get a new pair simply for asking. I've done this four times with no problems, free of charge. They even ship new parts for free via FedEx. Whoa.

I love my iPod Photo and am seldom without it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware ofiTunes - Poor Quality and locks you to Apple
Previous reviews describes the HW. Not much to add here: Slick design, easy to understand, undersized screen for photo but the colors are nice.
The problem with Apple is the iTunes SW. Unlike other MP3 software I have seen, this one works only with iPod which gives you two problems: You will be locked to iPod and it may not work.
    - If you have loaded 10.000 songs (no small task)onto iTunes and want to use it with another player then it's back to reloading. It will not work with other players. Also, Playlists are to be maintained multiple places etc.
    - iTunes has sigificant quality problems so your perfectly working computer may not work with it. Go to http://discussions.info.apple.com and check it out - and note how many problems are unsolved so folks are sitting there unable to load, burn and play and the proprietary nature of iTunes means that there are no alternatives. Customer support is at best random

    Editorial Review

Portable audio takes on fresh life with quality headphones, and Sennheiser's folding, lightweight, closed-ear PXC 250 is designed to keep outside noises out and headphone sound in--perfect for use in busses and libraries alike.
Increase the peace! The PXC 250 features a noise reduction unit
    that cancels out background noise.

When engaged, NoiseGard active noise reduction drops steady-state low-frequency noise (from about 500 Hz and below) by 15 dB--which the human ear perceives as more than halving the noise--thus enhancing the clarity of your music. The noise reduction circuit requires 2 AAA batteries (not included), but the headphones work fine without the circuit engaged.

Sennheiser's fold and flip design lets you turn the ear pieces 90 degrees and fold the headphones closed. Their ported design lets them move more air for greater bass response.

4-0 out of 5 stars Functions well. Ugly design.
The noise reduction works well. On my back deck it subtracts
out all of the lawn mowers, traffic, and most of the flights
overhead, leaving only the birds and the rustling of the leaves
    in the wind.

I also like how the headphones fold up. They are a practical
size for slipping in the already overstuffed laptop bag on
    flights.

But these headphones are ugly. Not just ordinary ugly: butt
ugly. Sennheiser needs to hire an outside design firm for the
    next release.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's good but not the best !
I am writing this review while using this product for the first time ;-). I have great expectations for this product by seeing the reviews. It's good but not exceeded my expectations (with this price).

As a headphone good. As a noise cancellation it's AVG. Because, it never cancels all the noise around you. That's for sure. Only say 65 to 70% of noise.

Final suggestion, if you are looking for only noise cancellation there is no other option than this (BOSE is there, which is too expensive). If you are looking for a decent headphone go for a 10$ one next door.

    Good luck,
    Ram

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet Trade Offs
When turned on but not plugged into an audio source, the Sennheiser headphones reduce white noise, such as jet engines and road noise, by about half (best estimate). It is enough to provide some relief but it does not reduce sounds like talking or clattering, so you will be disappointed if your goal is complete sensory deprivation.

The competing Bose headphones that I tried in stores provide better isolation but cost more than twice as much, are less compact and block air flow around the ears. The Sennheiser headphones allow ears to breath better and are comfortable enough to permit resting on a headrest or pillow while traveling in an airplane or automobile.

The headphones fold and store in a 4" x 7" x 1" case with a main pocket and front pocket that holds the converter jacks for old-style large audio jacks and airplane jacks with two prongs. I have enough room in the case to carry the extra battery pack from a digital camera and a USB flash drive.

When the noise-canceling feature is combined with an audio source, the sound is enhanced and is noticeably superior to regular headphones (especially the junk passed out on airplanes). I use them only once a month so their cost seems high but I am glad to have them when I am trying to hear or tune out sounds on a long flight.

The two AAA batteries lasted about ten hours before showing signs of fading. The battery pack is in the middle of the cord and can be clipped on a belt or kept in a pocket, leaving enough cord on either end to reach the audio jack and the headphones. Often, however, I find myself wishing the battery pack was at the plug end of the cord so I would not have to juggle it in my lap or lay it on the seat next to me.

I concluded there were no perfect headphones when I was shopping and opted for the Sennheiser's features and price. I may have chosen differently under different circumstances.

FYI: The headphones I bought in July 2004 were made in Ireland. Lately, I have seen on packages in stores that production was moved to...guess where...no, not Switzerland, keep going east... Chinese quality seems to be improving but they should have passed some of the cost savings along to the customer for a product that has been out for quite a while. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Discus 3.0.4 upgrade Label/Jewel Case Software is Tops
I own Toast 6 with two upgrades. (6.0.5) Using OS X 3.4 I needed a software update for my LaCie Burner.
The Technical Help is quick and fast at Toast/Roxio. They told me to download it and gave me the link.
Last night I Toasted some CD-ROM's for training Case Managers. I burned Six CD and Printed Labels and Jewel Case Inserts and Tray liner in a half hour.

The extra $20 to upgrade to Discus 3.0.4 is well worth the Time and Money. (Newer Software and Full artwork) Real Pro looking Artwork and Label from a great Library. You can use any brand of Paper (Avery, Neato, Memorex etc.) and even nudge 0.5 mm adjustment if necessary. Memorex tray liners got an adjustment and it work for all futures use of that paper. This software lets you import for iTunes and Toast what you are Toasting for a list of software or Song Lists etc. Software so easy, I did NOT read the directions. Just do what you want to do the MAC way. I Like the Neato Jewel case booklets for Training instructions (Music Album Notes) and Memorex tray liners. I have one software and Four brand of paper
You can even print business cards on which I ton of good comments. "What a Beautiful Card."
Spin Doctor takes out the starches on old LP's for converting to CD's.
I was so happy with the Toast 6 package I did not take the rebate offer. I also used Toast 5 Lite that came with my LaCie.
A New feature lets you Toast to a burner over the internet which are great for Training DVD's to people 15 miles away.

Give the Package Bundle five stars

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for any Mac owner!
When I bought my eMac, this was the first software I HAD to buy.I make a lot of CDs, so I decided that this was a must, and I've owned Easy CD Creator for the PC, so I knew that it would be easy to use and feature most of the functions I would need.

It's true that it meets most of my needs and with a simple, clean interface.I can make a music CD and store files in no time and it can even create Video CDs and DVDs with menus.

Of course, to many, Toast may seem redundant, as Mac OS X can handle most of your burning needs natively, but I prefer to use 3rd party software for those things, as it was created specifically for that purpose. However, the two things that Toast can do that Panther cannot are create Video CDs and burn DVDs directly from MPEG and Quicktime files without the need to demux audio.

I get some Japanese TV shows from friends in Japan in MPEG format and I like to watch them on my TV, so it's nice to be able to burn them into VCD or DVD format for viewing and backup. If you do a lot of video downloading, this really can come in handy. Also, it works GREAT with EyeTV (sold separately) for the Mac, so you can record your favorite TV shows and put them on CD!

My only complaint is that the DVD/VCD menu option stinks. There is only one menu interface and you cannot choose layout, music, background photo or anything. It's just a plain blue screen with a thumbnail of the video and text titles. And the thing is, it's not very nice--it's borderline gaudy and not what I'd choose for a standard menu layout.

But, with that aside, this is a product I can wholeheartedly recommend for any Mac user with above-average burning needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Burn Baby Burn!
Macs come with quite a robust burner in the Finder and the new iLife '04 goes even further than before in giving users more options to customize their discs. So what exactly does Toast do that the Mac OS can't do on it's own?

    - Multi Session Burning
    - Encrypt data discs with a password
    - Burn exact copies of a disc
    - Choose which OS the disc will be compatible with
    - You can save a burn project so you can burn it again at a later date

These features alone make Toast a very tempting purchase.Thankfully though, it can do much more and it pulls it all off with ease.Drag and drop is about as complicated as the interface gets, but the results are that you have discs burned the way you want that work the way you want.Toast is a powerful, well-rounded, fully featured burning software that just about every user will find useful.

As a bonus you get Discus (for making labels for all those discs you've burnt) and Spin Doctor 2 (for taking out pops and hiss from imported music from records and tapes). ... Read more
