4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant joystick!
I just bought this joystick used from eBay, so I'm not hired by someone to say this, but i think this is a fantastic joystick. I had no problems whatsoever to connect it to my PC (Win XP, SP2). Yes, it is a nuisance and true that MS doesn't offer support, but none was needed either, so there. I even installed the Win 98/2000 drivers, which worked fine.
Apart from that the jostick feels great, does the job well and when you stroke it gently it gets itself into position. What more could you want, really?

4-0 out of 5 stars A fine stick for XP
This is a good joystick for casual flight sim and mech-combat games. It's fairly responsive, it has eight buttons plus an eight-way hat and a throttle. It does not have the shift button of the original MS Force Feeback Pro, but it also does away with that sticks oversized power brick.

It lacks some specialty features available on other sticks. Many games demand more buttons. For these, you may require an additional throttle or button-brick. It also lacks the extra dimensional controls of sticks such as the Gravis Xterminator, which are useful for some sims.

Overall, this stick is worth picking up if you can get it for a price in line with other force feedback sticks, but the current market has inflated its price beyond its usefulness.

I feel obliged to comment on XP support, as several others have disparaged it:
This stick works consistently without additional software on each machine I have tried it on with XP Sevice Pack 2. I don't know if there are problems without SP2, but I can't find the forums other reviewers have mentioned, so I'm inclined to think the problem has been resolved.

1-0 out of 5 stars wont work with xp, microsoft discontinued support
I really have to wonder about some of the recent reviews on this sidewinder. I wonder if they are written by people selling this unit (no authorized dealers sell the sidewinder for a year, it is only third party sellers).

Microsoft discontinued this a year ago along with ALL support. It will not work with with XP. just google sidewinder, usb and joystick and you will see many many people who are having problems. I am not talking about n00bs, but experts on various gaming and flight sim boards.

It will work one day and not the next, you need to do some pretty serius registry hacks once a week.

and as I said microsoft will tell you they have nto supported this joystick for a year, and have removed all their supporet pages. If you mention this joystick and xp, they will say, sorry, can not help you at all. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for Entry Level Sim Racers
This wheel is ok if you have never raced a driving sim before. BUT, and a BIG BUT, if you are in it for precision driving, as required in titles such as Nascar Racing 2003 or F1, you better be prepared to pay a little more. I have found that with endless calibrations of the wheel, it still jumps side to side when near center. (ex: Straightaways, it will not hold straight)

    Return to Castle Wolfenstein

    Editorial Review

It's been nearly 10 years since Wolfenstein 3D foreverpopularized the first-person shooter, and at long last everyone's favorite Nazikiller, B.J. Blazkowicz, is back in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Setduring World War II, Return to Castle Wolfenstein finds the Nazisdabbling in the black arts in an effort to create an army of supersoldiers.Naturally, Blazkowicz is the only thing standing in the Nazis' way, so he's setbehind enemy lines in an effort to end the madness.

On the surface, the single-player game seems like pure gold--after all, everyoneloves killing Nazis. But the story jumps all over the place, the enemy AI isless than impressive, and most gamers will be able to finish the game in a mere10 to 15 hours. The single-player game falls short of the standards set bytitles such as Half-Life and No One Lives Forever.

In fact, the best thing about Return to Castle Wolfenstein is itsteam-based multiplayer mode. Each multiplayer adventure features Axis vs. Allies, andboth sides offer four character classes: engineer (removes obstacles), medic(heals and revives teammates), lieutenant (calls in air strikes and replenishesammo), and soldier (only class able to use sniper rifles, flamethrowers, andother unusual weapons). The game includes only eight multiplayer maps, but theyare all perfectly designed, and in order to be successful teams have to worktogether. The result is a great gaming experience that fans ofCounter-Strike or the Day of Defeat mode for Half-Life will reallyappreciate.

Graphically, Return to Castle Wolfenstein looks amazing. It uses thepowerful Quake III engine to great effect, and the character models, explosions, and lighting effects are all perfectly done. Alas, pretty graphicsand a great multiplayer game don't quite make up for an exceptionally averagesingle-player experience. --William Harms

    Pros:

    • Amazing graphics
    • Great level design (including secret passages)
    • Awesome multiplayer mode
    Cons:
    • Lackluster AI
    • Single-player game is very short

    4-0 out of 5 stars Guilt-free genocide
I suppose if there are two groups whom it's acceptable and almost encouraged to slaughter, it would be Nazis and zombies. It's the only time a defendant could be on the witness stand and confess to his own benefit "Your Honor, they were really asking for it." Which is what makes Return to Wolfenstein so much fun. It's a historically accurate gothic WWII supernatural FPS. One of those rare combinations you throw in a blender and it comes out all yummy.

I'll briefly echo all the other compliments here: nearly photo-realistic graphics; pinpoint control, targeting, and collision detection; silky smooth operation in XP. Voice acting is believable. Weapon and explosion sounds are appropriately metallic and jarring. And the undead are scary as hell. I've played many of the good survival horror franchises, and none except Silent Hill 1 freaked me out like the zombies in Wolfenstein. It was a rare stroke of genius to introduce the Nazi grunts as sympathic victims of the undead hordes, showing scenes of your enemy's enemies devouring them alive. This creates a real hesitation and apprehension about the player's role that exacerbates the fear. In other words: me scared, good job.

So, if it rocks so hard, why not five stars? Well, this little revelation hit me about halfway through the game: instead of being the best Castle Wolfenstein it could be, id decided to make a very good cross between Medal of Honor and Wolfenstein. Which is a very good thing, but remember what set the first Wolfensteins apart from the rest were the exploration and "secret area" goodies. RtW would have been great if every level had been more like Paderborn (the best stage of RtW): more dungeon crawling, deeper and more inventive secret areas. I'm imagining innovative and useable secret goodies that enhanced gameplay, hidden by new concepts of concealing secret doors. You know, play to your strengths rather than copy someone else.

As it is, Return to Wolfenstein is a fun, pretty, and often scary offbeat shooter that's just a hair below the best of the more traditional WWII FPS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compatibility problems
I have this game, it used to play on my win 98 but since I upgraded to win xp it doesnt work anymore. Does anyone know why? How can I fix it? I doesnt help changing the compatibility settings.
    Thanx a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Milestone in Gaming?
As most of you are aware, the video and PC gaming industry loves to hype games. In the last six years or so the games that got a LOT of attention prior to release include Unreal, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal 2, Black and White, and of course, Doom 3.As you can see from this list, not all of these games lived up to expectations.Considering the tremendous amount of hype that heralded the return of Wolfenstein, does Return to Castle Wolfenstein live up to expectations?

Mostly yes.The graphics in this game are definitely good, and they seem to approach photo-realism in some ways.It helps to run this game with a good video card, and I can tell you that although Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released in 2001, my Radeon 9800 graphics card still strains a bit if I turn all the settings up.The sound, level design, weapons, and enemy AI all are very good too.

Nevertheless, most gamers would agree that this shooter was not the milestone it was expected to be.Some complained that the single-player adventure is mediocre, but I thought it was quite good.I guess there's only so much you can do with a first-person action game, and if the previews in the PC gaming press get too exciting, one should expect a let down.

So should you buy Return to Castle Wolfenstein? If you like playing action games on your PC, then by all means get a copy.At the price, you'll get a really good value because this game is as good or better than many of the newer, more expensive shooters. Moreover, playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein can lend you an idea of how games evolve and how gamers react to them. ... Half-Life Platinum Collection
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    CD-ROM (14 November, 2000)

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Half-Life: Platinum Collection contains all the great action that earned Half-Life Game of the Year honors from over 50 publications and had Imagine Media's PC Gamer magazine calling it the "Best PC Game Ever" (November 1999). This package contains the core Half-Life game as well as both Half-Life expansion packs and the two most popular Half-Life mods: Team Fortress Classic and Counter-Strike.

In Half-Life, you play as Gordon Freeman, a research associate at the Black Mesa Federal Research Facility. An experiment blows up in your face, and suddenly aliens and a military death squad surround you. Half-Life: Opposing Force takes place during the events of Half-Life, but casts you as a lieutenant of one of the commando squads sent to kill Freeman. Half-Life: Blue Shift also takes place during the same time as Opposing Force and Half-Life, but this time you play through the Black Mesa disaster as a lowly security guard. Team Fortress Classic is an online action game featuring a wide array of WWII-themed character classes for a team warfare bonanza. Counter-Strike brings the action of Team Fortress Classic into the modern age: it's an online war of terrorists versus counterterrorists in modern team-based combat. All five award-winning programs are included in this one box. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME
Couldnt get over the fact of the characters adaptation to the environment... its crazy. loved ever minute, second, hour and week i played... riveting. recomend to everyone

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont buy this, it isn't a complete set
This compilation of 4 great Half-Life based games is a somewhat bastardized version of the superior title which was released under the same name a while later. If you buy this version, you are not getting the entire collection. The new version contains yet another expansion to Half-Life that is worth playing.

      The original Platinum Collections contain:
      1. Half-Life (The original, which started it all, a great game.)
      2. Half-Life:Opposing force (1st official expansion to Half-Life)
      3. Team Fortress Classic (A mediocre multiplayer mod from Sierra)
      4. Counter-Strike (The ultimate multiplayer game. This alone is worth the entire price, although you can get it for free if you own Half-Life, which you will if you buy this collection.)

The new version contains an expansion to the original called Blue Shift. In this expansion you play as a security guard in the Black Mesa compound (the same area as the original). It is just as fun as the original, but shorter.

You can usually find the newer pack (it is grey, not platinum or silver, and says 5 games in one on the front) at any large chain retail stores such as Target, Wal-Mart,or K-Mart. Hope this review can be of some help.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you still don't own Half-Life...
And you own a PC, shame on you!

Alright, here's what you need to do. Look up "Half-Life: Platinum Collection" and put it in your shopping basket. Check out. Here's what you get.

Half-Life: The original and although somewhat dated graphically, it is still a cracking good FPS. The game is just fun to play from soup to nuts and loaded with atmosphere. The levels are more innovative than anything before or since.

Half-Life: Opposing Force This game got a 93% courtesy of PC Gamer and that is absolutely remarkable considering this is basically just a Half-Life mod, although a bloody creative one! You'll love the boot-camp sequence and hey, R. Lee Ermey is in it! What more do you need?

      And you also get...

Counter-Strike: Still the most popular online FPS.

      and...

      Team Fortress: Classic

      Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
      CD-ROM (24 March, 2000)

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

      Editorial Review

Satisfying the fantasies of envious driving fans everywhere, the latest Need for Speed focuses exclusively on the popular exotic car, the Porsche. In Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, players are immersed in over 50 years of Porsche history and cars.

Focusing on just one company limits vehicle-selection type, but the game offers variety by reaching into Porsche's past. With Porsches ranging from the 356 Coupe Ferdinand (1950) to the state-of-the-art 991 Porsche Turbo (2000), car aficionados will have plenty of luxury joy-ride choices. Diverse game modes and a crisp physics model complete yet another winning driving experience from Electronic Arts.

One of the most exciting new modes is called Evolution, where drivers purchase an early-model Porsche and compete in races to earn money so they can acquire upgrades, repair damage, and tweak performance. The contrast in both look and feel, from the antique models to present-day roadsters, is captured magnificently by the graphics engine and physics model. Each vehicle handles differently and offers a unique driving challenge.

Graphics are simply breathtaking, though not a significant enhancement over last year's impressive version. Realistic weather effects, rolling hills, and animated scenery all add to Porsche Unleashed's near visual perfection. Over a dozen tracks take you through grassland villages, autumn forests, and mountain roads. A wealth of Porsche historical information makes Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed a well-rounded package that should excite those looking to sample the open road in dozens of exotic sports cars. --Doug Radcliffe

      Pros:

      • Striking landscape graphics make each track a feast for the eyes
      • Focus on Porsche delivers a large and quite interesting historical section
      • Addictive Evolution mode spans the early years of Porsche to the present day
      • Still the best arcade racing game on the market
      Cons:
      • Not a significant enhancement over its predecessor
      • Omits some gameplay modes included in earlier versions of Need for Speed

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply incredible, the best Need For Speed ever
This game is simply amazing. It has shocking detail in cars, courses, everything. Evolution mode is possibly the coolest thing to ever be in a racing game, as you start in the 50's with the first Porsche (356) and end up at the 2000 911 Turbo, with stops at every model in between. You get money for winning, need to repair cars, and buy specific upgrade parts. This is the games neatest feature. They aren't just "suspension upgrade", or "Engine upgrade", It is "professional racing struts" and "stage 4 turbo kit". Of course, there are replacements for almost everything in the engine, body, etc. If you are into cars, it is a dream come true. very technical. I love it. Definately reccomend it. At this price, it is a steal.

5-0 out of 5 stars I hunger for SPEED!
Out of all the "Need for Speed" games, I consider Porsche Unleashed the best (ahead of Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground).Instead of racing different cars from different manufacturers, like other racing games, this game is entirely devoted to the Porsche lineup. There are Porsches from the old 1950s to the modern GT series race cars to drive. The trademark quirky handling of the Porsches are so evident in this game. The more modern cars are less likely to "fish tail" around, but the 2.7 RS is an annoying fish-tailer.But once you successfully manage to control that beast, it becomes so fun power-sliding around.

Graphically, this game is stunning, from night-time driving to driving in the Alpine snow, you got everything. The graphic doesn't need a very robust CPU, but try to get the best 3D graphic card you can afford (anything better than a Voodoo 2).I was able to run this game with a 800 Mhz CPU with Voodoo 3 and it was fine.Sound quality is also superb, and I especially like the sound of the older 911 - very raw and throaty.

I would like to address some issues that others have pointed out (either here or in discussion sites). One is that Porsche Unleashed works horribly with XP and Windows 2000.EA-sports technical support doesn't have much to say about this.If you search the web, you should be able to find some answers to fit this problem (with a patch or some figetting around). The second problem is that Porsche Unleashed doesn't seem to like some newer version of DirectX and the Nvidia Denotator Drivers. For example, my mouse would freeze (hard crash) at the start-up screen.I was using DirectX 9.0b with the latest Nvidia drivers. To "fix" this, I eventually had to rollback the DirectX version to 8.0 and use an older version of Detonator (version 30.82 for win98SE) and everything seems to work okay.So hopefully this could help those who have problems. This is a great game and I think it is worth the trouble I listed to play it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The NFS Game.
The stories of NFS Hot Pursuit II coming out, The NFS Underground, all cannot beat the magnificence of this sheer driving pleasure game.

There are no Yellow Ferraris, No Black Diablos, No White F1s, No Green Astons, No Blue Lotus' No petty Mercs and BMs....Only Porsche. This game, from its absolutely stunning high-end graphics in the game menus, not to mention the actual game, is simply a bliss to be in. From the 1950 Coupe Ferdinand, named after Dr Ferdinand Porsche, the Creator of Porsche, to the GT1s, GT2 Cup, GT3, 959s (Only 200 in the world), 928 GTS, The 550 A Spyder (James Dean became immortal after he died in this car), and not to mention all those Carreras, the Moby Dick, and 911s. There are 81 different Porsches and not counting the bonus cars which you download.

You have 3 Different Types of Games to play, the Evolution, which is the heart of Porsche Unleashed, and the Factory Driver, whereby you undertake little missions to qualify as a Authentic Porsche Factory Driver, (There is a Rolf who first is introduced, reminicense of Dean's personal Porsche Mechanic, Rolf Wutherich) and normal Original NFS Games featuring some of the Factory Cars to play Quick Races and Knockout Rounds.

The Evolution. This is a game that is to have you on your Racing Wheels for a very longtime. Starting from 1950, moving from the Classic Era, to Golden, to the Final Modern Era, you have to win the Tournaments to make your way up in the Timeline, you will earn money, sell cars, collect cars, paint them, tune their gears, adjust tire pressure, shock level, shock travel, the toe-ins, brake balances, and most importantly, the Downforce. You get to choose your own Rim style for your Porsche, buy Slicks, or Rain tires, open up the boot, the door, look inside the car, take it for a Testdrive in the infamous Autobahn, go to Corsica, the Cote D'Azur, Pyrenees, the Alps, Normandie, and so on. After you finish each tournament, you get to play the Club races, which offer a wide range of every kind of prize money, and every kind of difficulty.

The most important aspect of the Porsche Game is that the Porsches get very hard to control as you advance. Some cars, like the 944s will be easier than the Carrera 2.7 RS Models, or the 911 Turbos. You will have to take in consideration every little information you can find. You will have to practice to be able to qualify for the next round. After a while you would be familiar with words like 'loose' 'tail happy' 'toe-ins' 'add more rear down pressure' 'buy the low-speed gear box' 'add the whaletail' etc...After this game, literally, you'll know more about Porsche the cars and their History a lot more than anyone else. Although not every single car that was made production is available, such as the 912s, featuring 81 cars in a game is not bad don't you think?

I wasn't much of a Porsche lover, but after this game, every time I see a Porsche, I can tell exactly what model that car is or what year it was made. For example, the difference between the Carrera 2 and the Carrera 4. Its obvious to a lot of people that the Carrera 2 came before the Carrera 4, but intruth, Carrera 4 is an All-Wheel Drive and Carrera 2 only drives on the front 2 wheels....its these little information that will make you interested in Porsche a lot more. Driving the infamous "Little Bastard" driven by James Dean, will give a much different perspective of Porsche and James Dean both...and driving the GT1 or the Moby Dick 935, will let you be able to feel the power of the speed which goes over 280kms an hour.

If you have 2 Million pictures of the Ferrari, met the Ferrari President, dream of owning the Enzo, know all about Ferrari and their 356GTs, Maranellos, F50s, love your Lambos, seen the Murcielagos, know what the VT stands for in the Diablos, Know the first name of Lamborghini, what happenend to the company, IT DOESN'T MATTER. Even if you hate Porsche so much you'd like to scratch a reallife car when you see one, this game....this game has to be played.

With Force Feedback ofcourse. ... Read more

      Editorial Review

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002, Professional Edition is the latest version of Microsoft's highly realistic aviation simulation--the top-selling PC flight simulation ever produced. FS 2002 Pro introduces many exciting features, including interactive air traffic control (ATC) and auto-generated scenery, plus challenging new aircraft and stunning visual enhancements that truly make Flight Simulator 2002, Professional Edition "as real as it gets."

Flight Simulator 2002, Professional Edition includes a wide variety of aircraft for you to fly--from a new Cessna 172S single-engine trainer and a Caravan floatplane to the Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet. You can splash down in a lake, hover in the Bell 206B JetRanger III helicopter, or practice aerobatics in the Extra 300S. FS 2002 Pro includes 16 aircraft, four more than in the standard edition.

Features exclusive to the professional edition include tools for creating your own planes and buildings, and a multiplayer "instructor's seat" capability. The most dramatic new features common to both editions are the interactive air traffic control system, crowded skies, and auto-generated scenery.

The interactive air traffic control feature adds a new dimension to Flight Simulator. Now you can ask for takeoff clearance, get vectors for an instrument approach, and hear other traffic as you fly. In fact, the "other traffic" is itself a new feature: a new artificial intelligence system generates air traffic around and between airports.

It'll be hard to pay attention to the air traffic, however, as the scenery in FS 2002 Pro is so attractive. As you fly above cities, towns, farmland, and dramatic landscapes, Flight Simulator adds buildings and vegetation appropriate to the terrain below. Office buildings, factories, homes, farmhouses, and trees smoothly blend in on the horizon and fill the entire area with detail that adds unprecedented depth and reality to the game.

Other features include more than 21,000 airports, multiplayer capability, improved weather effects, a moving map and GPS system, in-depth flight analysis, and more. ... Read more

      - To Fly is all i have wanted since i was little andgame was right for me. Last christmas i got this simulaor and a sidewinder joystick. This game is so real i find myself yelling in my room because im doing barrel rolls in the extra. i play this simulator every day when i get home from school till i go to bed.You never will get tired of this simulator

There are so many things to do on this simulator including:

-Select a flight-where you choose a flight already made.
-Create a flight-you can choose your own plane, choose anywhere in the world you would like to fly and all the conditions of the flight
-Learn to fly-take lessons from instructor,Rod Dimacho, and earn your private, instrument, commercial, and airline transport Licenses.
-Multiplayer- Fly with other aviators online
-Library- You do not go to the local bookstore anymore! Get your charts, Ground school handbooks, and many others.

The only bad thing about this simulator is that the graphics arent the best. You may be thinking that if you fly off in your town that you can see your house but thats not true. Also you cant get the exitement of crashing out of this simulator, all it does is stick the plane in the ground and if you do not want to crash just turn that setting off and you will just bounce off things.

If you dont have enough money tot ake lesson or you just want to practice this simulator is for you.My uncle is a pilot and he is amazed on how i can fly just by playing this simulator.

      Hope you liked my review!

      Editorial Review

Combat Flight Simulator 2 is a dream come true for historicflight sim fans. Excellent graphics, great sound effects, and adjustablerealismsettings make CFS2 a thrilling and accessible sortie into theunfriendlyskies of the South Pacific during World War II.

After choosing to fly for the Japanese or American forces, you can pick from aselection of seven ultrarealistic aircraft. Experienced flight sim fans willdrool over the plane models, accurate down to the number of rivets. Newbieswillappreciate the excellent flight and landing tutorials.

There are over 100 missions to fly, many based on historic missions from thewar. This unusual level of realism and attention to detail comes from the gamedevelopers' personal love of flight: many members of the CFS2 team arepilots. Their extensive research included interviews with Japanese and U.S.acesfrom the real war in the Pacific. The missions themselves are lengthy andoftencomplex, and are just as accurate as the planes; players take part in history, but cannot change the outcomes of battles.

Because the action takes place in the South Pacific don't expect to see a widevariety of ground scenery. Not that you'll miss it: the water, small islands, planes, aircraft carriers, and battleships are always very sharp and detailed. However, if you expect to play with the graphics at their best settings, beaware that you'll need a blazing fast machine with a fast video card. Onlessercomputers, the graphics in Combat Flight Simulator 2 start to degradefrom stunning to merely ordinary.

The between-mission story arc is told through 1940s-style comic book panels.Theartwork does a good job of moving the story along while giving the feelingthatyour character and his fellow flyboys are aware they're never far from instantdeath. That the game also allows you to fly the full Japanese side of thecampaign gives the player an interesting glimpse at the Japanese perspectiveofthe war.

While the game does include such famous planes as the U.S. Corsair, Wildcat,P38F Lightning, and Japanese Zero, its mere total of seven craft left uswantingmore. We were impressed with the vastly different handling of each plane, butthe lack of variety is disappointing.

But this is a relatively small shortcoming in an otherwise deep and involvinggame. If you have a powerful enough PC, Combat Flight Simulator 2 is adelight, and is sure to please both war historians and flight simenthusiasts.--Mark Brooks

      Pros:

      • Easy to get into, but can be adjusted to become very difficult andrealistic
      • On highest-quality graphics settings, the game is simply gorgeous
      • Plenty of missions and great tutorials
      • Full Japanese campaign adds depth and historical balance
      Cons:
      • Only seven flyable aircraft
      • Steep system requirements

5-0 out of 5 stars Great flying and graphics.
As an avid flight simmer, I was really looking forward to this game, but also with a lot of doubts. The game itself is incredible; graphics are the best I have seen from any flight simulation. The concern when I first got it was, the same thing that disappointed me with FS2000, the frame rate. I, by no means have a fast computer (PIII 600, 128 MB RAM), but I am consistently getting a pleasing 25-30 frames a second from CFS2, and that was with the detail turned on full blast and 4 planes buzzing around, I was overwhelmed. The only way I could get that good of frame rates from FS2000, was to fly at night over the ocean.

The detail put into this game is great, everything from seeing the ripples in the water as a ship is sunk, to the sounds of the ships motors as you fly by, flying through the flak, oh and of course the damage of the planes being shot.....very nice. There were a few disappointments, one being wingman commands....they are very limited, and the limited amount of planes you can fly, I would have liked to fly a B-25 and drop 3000 lbs of bombs on a tiny island, overall its a outstanding game, 1 step above CFS Europe.

Also, I bought my first FS software to fly the number one freeware aircraft simulator on the Internet - The TR-3B Flying Triangle.I flew fighters for the Air Force in late Vietnam, specifically the F-111 and am rated commercial also. The TR-3B Flight Simulator for Microsoft's Flight Sim, is based on the writings, lectures, and TV interviews of Edgar Fouche who wrote "Alien Rapture." (See amazon)

Why? This is what the genius who developed it wrote: "For the experienced flight simmer on FS2002 PRO, I have developed this complete exotic amphibian TR-3B package, which is now available as freeware for download. It includes 3 models - the purple Astra, blue Locust and white Hellas - and as an extra 4th model the TR-3X with its own speedy attacker flight dynamics. The package includes TR-3B panel & gauges, noise cancellation sounds, fsuipc and special lights effects.

This TR-3B is a heavy tactical reconnaissance aircraft equipped with a magnetic field disruptor that reduces the weight by 89 percent (it is not the same as anti-gravity, though). It has been created for Microsoft Flight Simulator. All gauges are included.

The TR-3B can float like a speedboat at Mach 1.5 over water, fly like a heavy helicopter, like a bush plane, a business jet, like a military jet and lift like a rocket. Cruise speed is approx Mach 4.7 at FL340 and above, and approx Mach 2 at sea level. Service ceiling approx 69,000 feet ASL. Super stable.FSFREEWARE, SURCLARO, FSPLANET aircraft simulator sites have reported as many as 5000 downloads in one week!

I searched and read many many web pages about his book and the author, Edgar Fouche including; startfinish(put in the dot com.)biz/wiseClick on links for Fouche and Flying Triangle. You will find his full presentation, and the download links for the TR-3B. Get the Great TR-3B Top Secret aircraft simulator and X-Plane, which I highly recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Paper
Unless you own FS2000 or FS2002 this book is junk, and I mean that literally. The author does not even use the CFS2 key codes but in some esoteric fit of idiocy he decided that the so called FS "standard" keys would be his reference.CFS2 manual which has to be printed from the disk is 196 pages of your ink and paper long. Nowhere is there a complete list of key codes, just two partial lists, one long one short. It's a waste of time, and this book recomended by MS is also. Typical of MS, absolutely typical. The operation of all their software has to be a big secret!Don't waste the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good fun for its time
I bought CFS2 when it first came out, and it has given me much pleasure over the years. It remains my favorite of the CFS series, with good graphics and an enjoyable player interface. Runs well too, especially on today's computers. There are a host of free and commercial add-ons that enhance every aspect of the game. I have to say that since the advent of IL-2, it has been outclassed as a combat flight sim, but it can still offer the user a lot of enjoyment. ... Read more

In Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, you command four futuristic battle cruisers and a band of revolutionary pirates in an all-consuming battle against impossible odds. The setting is the Badlands cluster, 100 years after the first Independence War. Corporations killed your father for a bad debt, and you've spent 15 years rotting in jail for trying to get justice. Now it's time for vengeance. Turn back the corporations before they corrupt the entire universe.

Independence War 2 features an innovative user-friendly interface--90 percent of the functions can be programmed on the joystick, keyboard, or both. Get online multiplayer support for up to eight people. Play deathmatch, capture the flag, and various other unique scenarios. This game utilizes the revolutionary Flux graphics engine, is Microsoft Direct3D compatible, has surface effects such as rust, decay, and wear on the ships, and features stunning fire and flare effects. All ships in the game are modeled using the textures and details from the ships created for the CGI movies, and use a Newtonian mechanics simulation, moving according to the same rules as real spacecraft. This includes a simulation of both linear and angular momentum, inertia, and rotational moment of inertia. Ships can use either a free-flight mode or use computer-assisted fly-by-wire flight controls.

Team up against the enemy with detachable fighters. Keep them onboard as murderous gun turrets or order them to attack as wingmen. Nonlinear gameplay spans 16 star systems. Interact with dynamically created space traffic. Command four flyable ships and more than 30 weapons and ship accessories that you can use in near-infinite combinations. Get to know the locals, including taxicab ships, freighters, space patrols, and pirates. Watch the space opera unfold through a rich story line in four acts. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good potential but....
Started off great, fantastic graphics and the ships were good fun to fly. The problem is that you never know where to go or what to do. You're supposed to go out in to the universe and find "jobs" to do but with no direction or idea as to how to go about doing it. I went from one planet to another, nothing happened but I enjoyed the view. Too bad the game cheat manual is out of print.

4-0 out of 5 stars I-War 2: EoC/ For the Space Sim Fan
A decent storyline, upgradeable and customisable ships and a realistic physics engine. If you like I-War, you'll want this.

The learning curve on this game is a bit steep, especially on multiplayer but well worth the effort IMHO.

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated game
Rarely do you find a game these days that has the two qualities that make a great game. Graphics and gameplay. Far too aften it's one or the other. These days the plot usually has to suffer because developers spend way too much time trying to visually impress the gamer.
This is not the case in I-War 2. From the main menu interface, the music, just the presentation in general upon first installing the game it's hard not to initially sit there with your mouth open in awe. Though far and few between, the cutscenes in this game are nothing less than spectacular. Don't be fooled though, the learning curve on this game is very steep. I knew this from the get go and I decided I was going to finish this game. I started playing Sep 02, I finished it in around April 03. I don't have the time to play 10 hr marathons, but everytime I did sit down, I played this.
One of the downfalls in the game is that there are a few problems with the in game scripting, in laymen's terms sometimes parts of the script won't continue if certain things are done in a right order, and it can be very frustrating, especially because there's no way to know. With a very small amount of time there are fan websites that can help guide you or show you what your doing wrong. Plus through patches about 95% of these "holes" have been fixed.
Another reason so many found the game difficult is the physics of the game, it is a sim so it uses zero gravity, meaning once you start accelerating unless you accelerate the other direction you'll keep going that direction. It makes combat very interesting and very difficult to master.
I can't recommend this game enough, the story kept me going to the end, the music and sound effects are beautiful, top notch graphics, exciting epic space battles, a true space sim in every aspect. ... Read more

Tough polypropylene handles with full, visible tangs and thetraditional three rivets distinguish Classic knives from Wüsthof'sother cutlery lines. Otherwise Classic knives are identical to otherWüsthof knives, embodying all the virtues that have earned theGerman manufacturer world renown. The principal parts of a Wüsthofknife--blade, bolster, and tang--are forged from a single piece ofhigh-carbon stainless steel, and the blade is precisely tapered frombolster to tip and from back to hand-honed edge. The blades andbeautifully formed bolsters are not as thick as on some knives. As aresult, despite their heft, strength, and durability, Wüsthofknives are pleasingly delicate and marvelously balanced in action.

This set equips a serious cook with nearly every cutting edgeimaginable--there are 14 kitchen knives and eight 4-1/2-inch steakknives--plus a 10-inch sharpening steel to keep their edges aligned, tough kitchen shears, a 6-inch serving fork, and a 25-slot oak block tostore everything on the counter within reach. 5-0 out of 5 stars Cutco redux
I own most of the knives in the set and use them daily. I also used Cutco extensively once upon a time when I was young and didn't know any better. All I can say is that anyone who can sit there and say that Cutco is in any way comparable in quality to Wusthof is either a Cutco salesperson or delusional. If you're not willing to take the extra minute per night to hand wash and properly steel a Wusthof (or any other fine forged blade), by all means, get the Cutco or K-Mart specials or whatever. Otherwise, comparisons are simply unfair. You need to use a Wusthof to fully appreciate the difference. I did, and I couldn't retire my old knives fast enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Web Solicitors
Just to let you guys know, Cutco hires what they call "web solicitors" to hype up their products on sites like this. Also, Cutco is sold through demonstrations by Cutco salespeople only and these salespeople have an interest in bashing other knives on the net. Master Chef Wylie Dufresne told GQ magazine "I have plenty of friends whose parents have Cutco in a knife block. You pull them out and they're all as dull as can be." Norman Weinstein, a nationally recognized kitchen knife skills instructor was quoted by the Baltimore Sun newspaper as saying this about Cutco: "Why, why, would you buy such a knife?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Cutco?
Are you kidding me?To compare Cutco to Wusthof-Trident is like comparing a Chevy to a Mercedes-Benz.Wusthof Classic knives are forged and well balanced, prefered by professional chefs.Cutco knives are stamped and WAY overpriced, prefered by "country bumpkins" who bought them from their sons or daughters. Please take reviews praising Cutco with a grain of salt. They are most likely Cutco salesmen pushing their inferior product. Why else would they be mentioning Cutco on a site that does not even sell it? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the game of stratego
i think this game fills you with interest. Using strategy this game is like a army game.you have players and the wapons you need. Bombs, a spy are the traps youyou need to destroy the best player. This gameis great and the best! also, the best part is the STRATEGY.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great find
I play this game with my almost 6 year old. I know he is a little young but he has figured out which piece is higher, the bombs, how and who can move, and basically the concept of capturing the flag.although his is a bit young to fully stratagize he is able to think about it which I believe is very educational.Although he is not able to fully stratagize we still have fun getting to the point where one of our flags are captured. And even if this happens he wants to keep playing. This game is great for now and will be even better as he gets older and can think on a more mature level.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!
Combine the simplicity of checkers with the suspense of clue and the moves of chess, and you have Stratego.
This is an awesome game, and I am normaly not a board game finatic.
The object is to capture an enemy's flag.
You have different ranking pieces (10 beats a 9 etc. only a spy beats the 10)
Which you attack the enemy pieces with.
Have a good setup, or just good strategy, and you might get past your opponent's bombs and avoid their powerful pieces ( Namely the 10 9 and two eights)
And you might just capture the enemy flag.
This game is incredibly easy to learn, but hard to master.
Overall, it is one of the best games I have ever played. ... Read more

Garmin Talking StreetPilot III Vehicle GPS Receiver (12 Channel, Map Compatible)

        Editorial Review

You don't need to buy a luxury car or spend thousands installing a multipart system to get advanced GPS navigation capabilities in your automobile. Garmin's StreetPilot III delivers all the high-end features you need--from detailed street maps and sophisticated auto routing to voice prompts and a color screen--in a compact, inexpensive, and portable package.

Setting up the unit was surprisingly simple. First we installed the software from the MapSource City Navigator CD onto our PC and connected the card reader, with the 32 MB data card, to the USB port. Then we went online to unlock one of 10 detailed coverage areas included on the disk; for instance, area 1 covers California and Nevada, area 7 covers New England and New York. After that we downloaded detailed maps of our city (San Francisco) and surrounding areas to the data card. We also downloaded waypoints--locations like our home, office, and other places we often visit--onto the card and inserted it into the StreetPilot III. If you don't have a USB port, you can also use the included serial cable to connect the entire unit to your PC.

The physical installation went just as smoothly. We affixed the plastic base to the top of our dashboard with the included adhesive mounting disks, snapped the StreetPilot III into place, connected it to the cigarette lighter for power, and extended the small fold-down antenna. The dashboard mount's quick release makes it easy to store the StreetPilot III when not in use or, if you purchase a second mount, lets you use it in multiple vehicles.

We turned the unit on and in less than a minute it locked onto the GPS satellites and displayed a map of our current location on the clear, bright, easy-to-read color display. As we drove along, it displayed our position and direction on the map, the name and address number of the street we were on, and even the name of the upcoming cross street. The two zoom buttons let us get a very detailed street-level view or a broad overview of our current position, and the menu button allowed us to customize the display.

The fun really started, though, when we used the StreetPilot's routing capabilities. Using the arrow buttons, we input the intersection of a store we'd never visited, and within a minute it calculated the most direct route. The voice navigator told us where to go and when to turn, and it was simple to monitor our progress both on the map and on the text display. For our next stop we knew the exact address and entered it into the unit. The StreetPilot then guided us onto the freeway and successfully to our second destination, telling us exactly where to stop along the street and even on which side of the street the store was located. To get home, we just accessed a waypoint with our home address that we'd preprogrammed on the PC.

Even if you don't know exactly where you're going, the City Navigator maps include points of interest, like restaurants, shops, and parks. This allows you to tell the StreetPilot to find the closest fast-food restaurant and then be presented with a list of nearby options.

Testing in San Francisco, we did lose satellite lock a few times in extremely hilly areas or in areas with very tall buildings. We think this was due mainly to the fact that the unit's antenna is inside the car; an external antenna option is available for less than $100 that should solve the problem.

Once you use the StreetPilot III for a while, it's hard to imagine driving solo again. Whether you're a salesman always heading to new locations, planning a road trip, or just need help getting around town, it's an extremely helpful companion that's cheaper and easier to install than anything else available. --Ken Feinstein

4-0 out of 5 stars Great GPSR for driving anywhere!
I've had my SPIII for about two years now, during which the pricing has come down some and the package offerings have increased, so this review may not match the exact contents Amazon offers here. My unit came with a 32MB memory cartidge, the serial port connection cord, the USB programmer cord, the 12V power cord for the cigarette lighter, the "sticky" dash mount, and a MapSource CD with codes to unlock one region (the US and Canada consisted of 5-6 regions, IIRC). I have since bought the beanbag dash mount and a 128MB card and purchased the "unlock all regions" option for City Navigator--probably already included items for a new purchase in today's package. Additionally, I downloaded the "British" voice package from Garmin's website to replace the default "American" voice--the British lady's voice seems less harsh and less like a drill sergeant when giving directions!

I love this unit because it makes navigation so easy--isn't that the idea behind a GPSR? With the CityNav map information loaded into the memory card (and with 128MB it fits all of PA, DE, MD, and D.C. and good chunks of WV, OH, NY, and NJ) I am able to get turn-by-turn directions to nearly any street address. If you ask it to route you to a given destination, the unit actually tells you when a turn is coming up, e.g. "In point two miles exit right," or "In 500 feet turn left." If you are driving without a destination selected, the unit will display the cross streets by name as you approach. You can zoom the map in for street detail or zoom out to see more of the countryside. If you have a destination selected, the unit will zoom in automatically as you approach and zoom in even more for a detailed overview of approaching intersections as you near a turn.

If you are in an area for which you do not have the MapSource detail loaded, the unit still has an internal base map that contains cities, highways, interstates, and major bodies of water, so it can still route you from city to city using the major roads. This makes driving long distances cross-country feasible and you can load up the memory card with the areas you expect to spend most of your time in if you don't have enough memory for the entire route.

However, in those areas for which you do have the map detail loaded you can get turn-by-turn directions to an address or even select various destinations (restaurants, attractions, banks, shopping centers, etc.) listed by name and/or distance. The unit also displays address and phone information for those destinations, which is useful to call ahead and make reservations or check for vacancy if you're the spontaneous weekend tourist like I am.

The 16-color display is beautiful--major routes are in red, arterials in thick black, minor streets in thin black, rivers and lakes in blue, parks and golf courses in green, and the background will change at sunset or sunrise to yellow (daylight) or black (night) as appropriate (the black streets will also switch to white at night).

Please note that the map detail, which includes streets and popular destinations, is a feature of the map software, not the unit itself. Garmin seems to issue updated map software on an annual basis, but you must pay for those updates. I'm still using CityNav 4.1, although Garmin's website states that 6.0 is coming out this summer. The new 6.0 software will probably contain more business listings and reflect more recent road construction, but I'm doing fine with 4.1 and don't see a need yet to pay for the upgrade. One reviewer complained about the lack of Starbucks locations with his map, and I expect Garmin will be adding more and more types of businesses like that as time goes by.

Enough babbling--in summary, here are some pros of this unit:
o Cheaper than most in-dash GPS systems
o Portable, so you can share the unit with your "fleet" or take it along in a rental car (and you'd best hide it or take it with you when parking so it doesn't get stolen)
o Voice navigation, so you can anticipate an upcoming turn without having to take your eyes off the road
o Color display--so much better than a gray scale map!
o Accurate and helpful when driving somewhere unfamiliar
o Automatic route recalculation if you miss a turn or have to detour
o Address and phone info for listed businesses/sites so you can call ahead

        And the cons I've experienced:
o Voice navigation could be somewhat improved for confusing intersections--do I take a right or sharp right at this five-way?
o Eats batteries--but this unit is too bulky to walk around with, so there is no reason it should ever be used without being plugged into your cigarette lighter.
o Awkward interface--entering street names or address numbers is awkward with the rocker button
o Loses signal in built-up areas with tall buildings--usually when you are downtown and *really* need directions the most, unfortunately! However, this is a problem with all GPS receivers and due more to the nature of the GPS system than the unit itself.

All in all, I love my SPIII. It has all the features I really need. There are units out there that are newer, have more features, and may be easier to use, but they're also more expensive. As long as Garmin keeps releasing updated map software compatible with the SPIII, this unit should serve my needs for many more years.

4-0 out of 5 stars StreetPilot III Review
Pro's:Overall good unit.Great color, well built, very detailed.

Con's:I live in a new development and my home street is not on the map.Software updates to the unit must be done with a serial port (included in box). The problem is that my new laptop does not have a connector for the included cable.Had to spend an additional $13 on a USB to 9 pin serial cable and Garmin said its only a 80% success rate that it will transfer the neccessary data. The Mapsource CD's which contain detailed information on cities can only be used one time.In order to use the CD's initially, you have to go to the Garmin website and get an "unlock" code. Therefore, if you purchase a newer computer, you have already used your unlock code and would have to purchase an addition code and these can range from $80-$100.
Since installing the Mapsource data, my comp has crashed 3 times.I do not think it likes Win XP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but a VERY worthwile investment!
Please allow me to preface this review with the fact that I have absolutely no sense of direction. For those with excellent sense of direction, this may seem like an extravagant purchase until they come down in cost.
I had to travel to California recently (I only lived there my whole life before 1999), but since I had never driven in California before, I was quite nervous about doing so.The rental car had a GPS very similar to the Street Pilot, and using that gave me a great sense of confidence in driving around.
Shortly after my return I realized how badly we needed a GPS in our car.The Street Pilot was the best option for us because it has all the features of a factory-installed auto GPS, but the added convenience of being portable- now when I head out of town I can take the Street Pilot rather than having to rent a car with a GPS.Not to mention the Street Pilot is about 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost of a factory-installed system.
Some of the other reviewers have complained about how long it takes the Street Pilot to recalculate a route once the vehicle has gone off-route.I have intentionally gone off-route several times just to see how it performs, and I have been very pleased. It does take a few seconds, but from my experience it did not take so long that I got any further off-course than I already was.
A feature that I found to be very helpful in the Street Pilot which was not in the rental car's GPS is a search by company name.If you're looking for a department store, but you can't remember its address, just search by the name, and the Street Pilot will navigate you to the closest one. If you're looking for that great Chinese restaurant a couple of miles away, but you can't remember the name, you can search for Chinese restaurants in your area and find the correct one based on its address.Want to order ahead, or put your name on the seating list?Once the Street Pilot finds the restaurant you're looking for, it displays their phone number on the monitor as well.
About the only two complaints I have about the Street Pilot are very trivial. On the rental car I used, the GPS would automatically lower the volume on the stereo when the GPS needed to announce an instruction.Being an external unit, the Street Pilot does not have this luxury.Since I tend to listen to music, well, at ear-splitting volume while driving, it does take a little getting used to lowering the volume when using the Street Pilot around town, but again, this is a very minor complaint given all of the positive features the Street Pilot has.
My other complaint is that occasionally it does give directions which are not the most direct route.I used this on a trial basis in areas I was familiar with just to see how it performs, and I did find myself thinking on occasion "why is it telling me to go this way, when that way is much more direct?"Especially since I live within a half an hour of Garmin's world headquarters, it would seem to me that they would at least know the most direct routes around here! But even at this, the Street Pilot DOES get you to the correct destination every time, even if it sometimes takes an indirect route.
I noticed that the package includes both a beanbag mount and a permanent dashboard mount for the Street Pilot.Since Street Pilots have a way of being swiped, my suggestion would be to always use the beanbag mount, since a permanent mount could cause thieves to break into the car to find the GPS that is no longer in the car.I drive a new Jetta, and I did not want to get sticky stuff all over my dashboard, so I chose to try out the beanbag. It does not slip, even when making sharp turns.I suppose if I were in a collision this would not be the case, but in normal driving, the beanbag is great.
Of course, as others have advised, do not leave your Street Pilot in the car unattended for any reason. But given the fact that you're going to be spending around $1G for this puppy you probably already knew that.
And one other safety feature that I think is great, but others might be annoyed by it: once you are driving, you cannot change the destination; it goes into a secure mode.To change the address, you need to stop the car. This may be a nuisance to some, but given how badly people drive while talking on cell phones, it's probably best that Garmin tries to curb people from pressing all sorts of buttons on their GPS while zipping down the road at 75 MPH. ...
