4-0 out of 5 stars This is what makes it what it is.
Ok, For all thoes people who put bad reviews about the music Quality, it is fine. This thing is a HARD DRIVE, the quality is EXACTLY THE SAME as the quality on your computer, unless you changed some options in the software to increase Transfer speed/Storage memory on the unit. If you have low quality music on your computer, you will have low quality on the mp3 player. Also, it may be the headphones. I found nothing wrong with this unit, it is cheap, and not all show like the Ipod's are. I upgraded my Archos Jukebox by puting in anew 120 gb hard drive, that you can get for $80.P.S. By opening you'r unit, you will void you'r warrenty. Do not do that unless you know what you are doing. Also, find instructions on a web site. I or Amazon can not be held responsible for what ever happens to you and/or your hard drive and Archos Jukebox.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
I recently bought an Archos off of Amazon.com and recieved it in its alotted shipping time. I was very excited at my new purchase from good reviews and amazing specs, especially for the price! unfortunately, I took the system out of the box and charged it overnight, just as the instructions had said. I took it out the next morning, hoping to put on new music and enjoy my purchase before a n upcoming vacation, but instead, the music turned on for about 30 sec. and shut off. I tried this several times until I relaized that it would no longer turn on at all. I tried to re-read the instrutions and even check the archos website but nothing helped. Eventually, I realized that my batteries would not hold a charge (certainly not rechargable) and even for the time (30 sec.) I did listen to the music, I was disappointed by poor quality. I sent back the product to amazon.com to get a new one and try my luck again. After a prolonged period (and a vacation with no MP3 player) I contacted amazon.com to find that I would not get a new one, but only a refund. I was at first a bit upset, but then realized that after all, wouldn't a refund be better than the hastle of dealing with such a worthless machine again and disappointing myself for the second time?
I still have not found another system with the same specs and storage ability for such a price, but I figure that if I must pay an extra $50-100 for an Mp3 player that works and has better sound, then so be it. I hope we have all learned something; this archos system has sourl disappointed me and I hope you will not make the same mistake as I have.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit but poor battery
I picked this unit up for my son 2 years ago, he enjoyed it a great deal, until the battery would no longer hold a charge. That happened about a year after he got it.I was just looking into getting a new battery for it so he could use it again and went to a battery store. They checked and an aftermarket replacement cost $49+ plus $5 S&H so I'm still in search mode on that.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the worst PDA I have owned
DON'T believe the hype. I am pretty techno-savy and this unit did not do what it claims to do. The hot-synch did not work properly, the battery had below average life, difficult to reset, poor help files. Oh, did I mention, Sony never sent me the rebate they promised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Economy & Power
This is an attractive, compact, useful, easy to use, durable PDA.I had been using a Palm III and really enjoyed the high resolution of the Clie's 320 x 320 screen.Using the backlight drains the battery fairly quickly, but it's necessary for ease of reading, unless you are in an ideal lighting environment. After about 14 months of use, the battery stopped holding a charge as well as it was supposed to, and needs to be recharged about every two days. One of the few design flaws is an adapter required for either recharging or hot syncing. If you recharge in one location, and hot sync in another, you need to keep carrying the adapter around with you.My rebate came in the form of a free leather carrying case.It was so small that it's an ordeal to get the PDA in or out of the case, rendering the case virtually useless. However the protective flap works well and has an attractively accented logo. The jog dial is great for one-handed navigation. The "back" button is handily located on the side, but does not work in many applications, and just returns to the desktop. The search function became unreliable in later months, generating frequent fatal errors. The geek squad "fixed" this with a hard reset, but once data was restored via hot sync, the same problem immediately reocurred.Despite these shortcomings, this is a great organizational tool at a modest price. ... Sony DSCF707 Cyber-shot 5MP Digital Still Camera w/ 5x Optical Zoom
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $1,099.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Stay ahead of the digital curve with the Sony DSC-F707. Showcasing superb functionality and some of the most advanced technology currently available, the DSC-F707 combines a 5.24-megapixel CCD, a swivel Carl Zeiss lens, hologram AF laser focus assist, and Sony's NightShot technology, which enables you to shoot infrared photos.

    Optics and Resolution
The Sony DSC-F707 features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens with 5x optical and 2x digital zoom (for a 10x total), an f2.0 maximum aperture, and a focal range of 9.7-48.5mm (equivalent to 38-190mm). It contains a 5.0-megapixel (effective) CCD, or 5.2-million gross pixels.

    More Features
The DSC-F707 uses Sony's NightShot technology, the same feature seen on Sony's camcorders, which uses infrared illumination and an infrared filter to take photos in complete darkness. The night-framing system provides infrared light as a composition assist, and utilizes hologram AF focusing and preflash exposure metering for consistently great shots even in low- or zero-light conditions.

Picture quality is enhanced with clear-color NR (noise reduction) that reduces color noise and slow-shutter NR that captures and subtracts CCD noise from long time exposures.

    Movie Mode
In movie mode, the DSC-F707 produces color digital videos in multiple creative formats, including 320 x 240 (high quality), 320 x 240 (normal), and 160 x 112. You can fill up the Memory Stick with digital video, but you are limited to 15-second movies with 320 x 240 mode. Another movielike feature is called ClipMotion, which will take 10 images and put them into an animated GIF.

The limited resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative.

    Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on Memory Sticks, Sony's proprietary memory-card format. The included 16 MB stick holds approximately 11 images at the camera's standard 5-megapixel setting (2,560 x 1,920 pixels). Memory Sticks are reusable, but if you tend to take more than 11 images per outing, then you'll want a bigger card. A 128 MB stick is a great size for this camera, storing around 70 images.

To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera--your computer should automatically recognize the camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. If you own a Sony desktop or laptop, your computer may also have a built-in Memory Stick reader, which makes transferring as easy as reading a floppy disk.

    Power
The DSC-F707 uses a proprietary rechargeable Infolithium battery (model M).

    Size
The DSC-F707 measures 4.75 by 2.75 by 6 inches and weighs 25.06 ounces with battery, Memory Stick, lens cap, and shoulder strap attached.

    Other features include:

    • Through-the-lens (TTL) preflash metering and red-eye reduction, cold-shoe and accessory terminal for HVL-F1000
    • Twilight, portrait, and landscape mode autoexposure
    • Multipattern measuring exposure system
    • 46-step shutter priority (30 sec to 1/1,000 sec)
    • 13-step aperture priority (f2.0 to f8.0)
    • Full manual exposure
    • High-speed scan autofocus
    • Manual focus ring with LCD magnifier

    Contents and Recommended Accessories
This package includes the DSC-F707 digital camera, Infolithium M battery, AC adaptor/in-camera charger, AV output cable, USB cable, shoulder strap, lens cap, 16 MB Memory Stick, printed manual, and CD-ROM featuring MGI PhotoSuite and drivers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want Rolls Royce performance on a Toyota budget...
Then this model is the camera for you :)!I got mine one week before the 717 came out and paid around 800.The drop in price w/in 30 days got my 110% difference return, so I actually got the camera for around 550!!I have since taken over 20,000 pictures, both work and home in all formats. This camera is a work horse!!I have used both the 707 and 717, and actually prefer this camera because of several small features (such as placement of the zoom button)

The focus engine and the Zeiss lens are the main reason to get this camera. Most of my pictures match what I could do with an SLR.The one problem I find is reds and purples... don't trust auto focus on these two colors.

I see a lot of folks upgrading and getting rid of these cameras and have not seen any that have "worn out" yet.Sony did a great job of engineering with this camera!!!

For examples of my pics... you can check here: http://community.webshots.com/user/houpdMost of the pics were taken with the 707..

I would personally value the camera around 350-400, but as they say.... "The more you pay, the more its worth!!"

Good luck and take lotsa pictures!!

    Jay

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Even though the camera has been out for a couple of years, don't let that make you think it's out of date. This camera is such a breeze to use that it is a joy to take pictures with.Having a pivot joint allows you to take pictures that you would have to lay on the ground for otherwise. The time between pressing the button and the picture being taken is much faster than my old Sony digital camera. All the buttons are well placed, extremely good ergonomics. This was a $1200 camera when it first came out for good reason. It is a must have for anyone looking to take quality pictures and do it with ease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome camera
This is my first camera i ever purchased. It's great! I haven't had any complaints. It shoots great pics, the zoom is phenomenal, and the features are great. Its a quality camera ... Read more

The DSC-U20 offers a fixed-focus 5mm f2.8 lens (or a 33mm equivalent in a 35mm camera) that has no optical or digital zoom capability. It features a three-area multipoint autofocus and four-step manual focus with automacro.

    Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on Memory Sticks, and an 8 MB card is included, which will store approximately 15 images. 5-0 out of 5 stars Major fun camera
I have had it for about a year. It is my constant companion. We ditched 35mm in favor of this baby. Results are not perfect, but for the size & price, it's wonderful. And don't forget that it uses AAA batteries!

Having said all that, I am hoping to get a DSC P92 before our next family vacation...

5-0 out of 5 stars Tough, small, great shots
I took this to Iraq in order to have a camera I could keep with me at all times. For 6 months I lugged it around wherever I went.Despite the lack of a zoom, it took great shots, and with a large (128MB) memory stick, I was able to store many pictures and download them when I had the opportunity.Just what I was looking for!

4-0 out of 5 stars TOOK A LICKIN & KEPT ON CLICKIN!
Though I've not had experience with this U-20, I can comment on its predecessor, the U-10, which is a 1.3 megapixel version of this camera.

When our son in law was deployed to Iraq in Feb. 2003, I wanted to send a digital camera with him. It needed to be very small and lightweight, but also needed to withstand the rigors of life in a fox hole. The Sony Cybershot DCS U-10 really came through! When he returned 8 months later the camerahad been dropped many times and had a lot of scratches and dents. It was very dusty and gritty and even the memory card inside felt gritty. I was afraid the data on the memory card wouldn't be readable. But also, the little Sony had takin a lickin and kept on clickin! The pictures were very very good for a 1.3 megapixel. The photos taken inside the tents were a tad dark because the flash only goes about 6 feet, but overall they were good. The photos taken outside were wonderful. If I had to send another camera off to the Iraqi desert, I'd stick with the Sony and choose another Cybershot U.It may have its limitations but it was perfect for the need we had. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I've had this printer for a lot of time. It's really cool and really econimal because no matter the cartriges are almost empty it will print like if the cartriges were new.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
Good looking printer. After warranty expired it's the only one positive thing I can tell about it. It doesn't work properly, prints have no straight vertical lines, some strange noises are coming from it, no way of printing photos. It visited service twice. I had a DJ690c in the past and after 5 years of use the only thing to replace was one small thing in paper feeder. DJ5550 is a piece of junk.

2-0 out of 5 stars Died after warranty expired
I previously had a 722c HP Printer that worked like a miracle. It lasted forever. Actually it still works, but it just got too slow so I bought the 5550. It worked great initially, but just shortly after 1 year, it went nuts. All its lights would flash and nothing was working properly. So now its just sitting there in my room. Its pretty disappointing since I expected all HPs to be of the same quality as the 722c. Too bad. ... Read more

    Panasonic SVAV10 MPEG4 e-Wear Digital Camcorder w/ Still Mode/MP3/Voice Recording & 64MB SC Card (Silver)
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $449.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The Panasonic SV-AV10 is one of the many new convergence devices on the market today. This particular device captures digital stills, shoots MPEG-4 movies, acts as a voice recorder, and plays back MP3 and AAC files. Plus, the machine itself is about the same size as a Motorola StarTac cell phone. The package includes various software to support the multiple functions, an SD card reader-writer, and 64 MB SD card.

    Initial Impressions
Small. This thing is just small. Really small. It's the first thing people mention when they see it for the first time. Cute is usually the second word applied. And it's both of those things. It fits easily in small hands, and I was using it to make a quick movie and shoot some stills within minutes of picking it up.

    Interface
The SV-AV10 is essentially a big battery with a lens and SD card reader-writer. As such, the control system is rather limited, consisting of two buttons and a rocker switch on the back, and a large trigger button on the top. On the back, the menu button doubles as the power button. The power won't turn on or off unless you hold the button for two to three seconds, making it hard to accidentally turn on the phone while it is in your pocket. Upon powering up, you're confronted with the various modes (movie mode, still mode, etc.) for recording or playback. You use the rocker switch to choose between them, and the mode button to switch between the playback and recording menus. Whatever recording mode you're in, the trigger switch at the top starts and stops. In playback modes, you rely heavily on the rocker switch. Depressing the switch performs multiple functions, and makes me wish they'd added another button. The system works well for the most part, however, and is relatively simple.

It's clear that Panasonic intended the user to manage files by using the included software and memory card reader. It is extremely difficult to delete individual files, and to actually playback items is a bit cumbersome, as the SV-AV10 only displays a list of files stored, requiring you to pick blindly (file names are automatically generated, and usually appear similar to this: MOL001.ASF). The only exceptions are the MP3 and AAC files you transfer to the memory card, but those file names are truncated after 17 characters, so you need to be concise.

    Movie Mode
I'll admit, I was quite excited about the promise of an MPEG-4 in such a small package. This new codec stuffs really large video files into exceedingly small spaces, and is being used by entertainment companies to provide new video-on-demand services over the Internet. And, the codec is so efficient that even in the "fine" mode, you can store about 20 minutes of footage on the included 64 MB SD card. Unfortunately, the footage you get from the SV-AV10 is jerky: the frame-rate is probably about 15 fps, far short of the 24 fps that movies are shot at, or television's 29.9 fps. What it is good for, though, is sending e-mails to friends, and making little mini-movies for fun. I'd hoped for a little more than this, as Kodak's MC3 supplied as much a year earlier (with a smoother frame rate). Similar to the MC3, you can shoot until the card is full (about 20 minutes with the included 64 MB card), whereas most digital camera movie modes have a 30 or 40 second time limit per clip.

Frame-rate limitations aside, the SV-AV10 is a fun toy. There's a certain amount of kitsch value with something like this, but the price might end up being too prohibitive for some.

    MP3 Playback
There's not a whole lot to discuss here. Once you've used the included software (RealJukebox) to transfer files to your SD card--digital-rights management is in effect, so you need to check music in and out--you place the card back in the SV-AV10, go to the MP3 playback mode and go. There's no EQ, and the headphones that come with the machine are of the cheap earbud variety, which means you'll probably want to use a better set. Obviously, the machine's not geared toward audiophiles, but it performs its functions admirably.

    Digital Photo Mode
The SV-AV10 is fine for taking lower-resolution snapshots. In that respect, it's kind of fun to use. The lack of any sort of zoom hurts you here; you'll have to get in close for most shots. Once you turn the flash on, you'll blow out most of your subjects, so use it sparingly.

    Software
I was disappointed in the software that came with the SV-AV10. RealJukebox was fine, albeit not the most current version, and I was happy with how it worked. It was the Panasonic SD-MovieStage software that gave me nightmares. The software was good for pretty much one thing: viewing your movies on a computer. Trying to do anything else was problematic, and extraordinarily difficult to figure out, even with the manual's help. It's not particularly adept at making cuts, or editing together various movies, but then, I'm not sure most people will want to do that with this particular machine.

    Final Analysis
The Panasonic SV-AV10 is a unique device with a lot of appeal for those who need a camera that does a lot of things. While it isn't a high-end digital camera, MPEG camcorder, or MP3 player, all the functions are performed adequately or better. The one thing you'll want, particularly if you have an interest in MP3 playback, is extra memory: high-quality MP3s eat up your memory quickly. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This camera is good depending on what you want it for...
I carry this camera everywhere.I bought mine when it was still pretty new and I didn't really know much about other cameras.

The size is definitely convenient. As a few other people said, it definitely impresses people because of it's size and design.

I was also impressed with the sound recording, but the quality of the pictures and video isn't at all near great.

If you care about picture quality, DO NOT get this camera. For the same amount or a little more, you can definitely get something better.

I've owned mine for a while and the screen has developed two little black dots in it, and I've never done anything to it to cause it.I've also noticed that some images seem to be domed or curved. The flash also will wash anything out if it is too close, and not help that much at all if the subject is sort of far.

If you just want it for random snapshots, I think you could definitely find a different cool, small camera that has the same calibur resolution for possibly for less.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the $ if you're doing more with your camera later
This camera may look ultra cool, but believe me, it's not. Unless you don't care much for how your picture quality is, then this camera may be ok, but if you do or eventually will, you are better off getting a better quality camera.

There aren't many options for your pictures that you're taking meaning you can't change the lighting effect (inside, outside, cloudy, snow, night, etc), size, picture type (black & white, etc) or many of the other things that you can on other cameras. I found that when pictures were loaded onto the computer, they looked grainy and dull, and if you used the flash, that also seemed to ruin the effect of the picture. There is also no zoom which is one thing I forgot to check out when purchasing this camera. I was not happy with this camera at all after a couple months when I needed better quality photos.

The video recorder of the camera was also a disappointment to me. The recording was very choppy and colors again were poor. On the bright side, it recorded the sound well.

I had no problem with the MP3 player or audio recorder, they both worked fine and were the quality that one would expect.

I now own a Sony Cyber-Shot camera which I am VERY pleased with. Basically you really need to think about what type of pictures you will be taking with your camera and if you want them to be the best quality possible, or if it simply doesn't matter to you to decide if you will be happy with this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not professional, but not that bad either
Ok, it may not take pictures/movies like professional digital cameras can, but it's still a good camera if you looking for something to do for fun. It's small enough to carry in your pocket, you can operate it on the fly when you need to, so its pretty reliable there. You have to mess around with the software a bit, and experiment with the camera a bit too but once you get the gist of how it works, you wont regret buying it. However, this camera is NOT worth paying full price for($200-$400). I bought a used one at Circuit City for only $125, I've had it for about a year and it still works great! ... Read more
