Gran Turismo 3: A Spec Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (13 July, 2001) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $19.88 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The PlayStation2 takes the Gran Turismo franchise to new heights in thethird edition of the venerable racing series. The graphics are sure to grabyou--the cars and tracks are awe inspiring, and there are some incredible lightingeffects. This game is much more than eye candy, though. The gameplay in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is the same as its predecessors;fans of the previous games will feel right at home, while newcomers will be ableto pick things up easily. There are more than 150 cars from which to choose, andplenty of tracks upon which to race them. Arcade mode works well for a quickfix, while simulation mode provides outstanding replay value. The sound effectsare impressive--each engine has a unique sound, and tire screeches fromdifferent cars sound noticeably different. The soundtrack is a good mix oforiginal compositions and a wide variety of recording artists, including MotleyCrue, Raekwon, Jimi Hendrix, and Snoop Dogg. One minor flaw with the game is its relatively predictable artificialintelligence. Computer-controlled cars follow distinct lines, and you'll be ableto pick up the patterns after a few races. Considering how far the graphics havecome since the original Gran Turismo, it's disappointing that the AIhasn't progressed similarly. Despite this, GT3 remains an outstandinggame. Few games offer its combination of high quality and immense variety.--Raymond M. Padilla Pros:

Time Splitters 2 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (11 October, 2002) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $29.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review When Rare made GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set up their own company, Free Radical. Their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch) TimeSplitters, but this sequel is polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year. One of the main problems with the original TimeSplitters was its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel, with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons, and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully theyve kept the wicked sense of humor from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage to GoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level, along with pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game. The real reason for TimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This is GoldenEye to the nth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons, and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks, such as remote-control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope of Halo, but in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as the Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins, Amazon.co.uk ... Time Crisis 3 Average Customer Review: Video Game (24 October, 2003) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (22)
STORY 7/10 This is the best story any of the Time Crisis games could offer. Usually, the story is pretty linear and retarded, but now the story has some twists. for example, on rescue mission mode is based around the character Alicia, who is on a mission to rescue her brother. Along the way, Alicia runs into one of her brothers comrades, which to my actual surprise, pulled a gun onto Alicia. The actual plot is that two of V.S.S.E's best officers were sent into the once-peaceful town of Astigos to stop the Zagorian forces from launcing tactical missiles towards Lukano. Along the way, they meet up with Alicia, the sister of a leader of the lukano troops, who joined up with them to rescue her brother. Enough of this though... SOUND AND MUSIC 9/10 This is the best music i have ever heard on any of the Time Crisis games. It is VERY catchy, and will force you to pause the game and listen to it. There is a problem with the music however. During the cutscenes, the music is so irritating that i want to bash the skull of whoever made that music, as it is very lame, not catchy, and makes me want to vomit. As usual, the Sound is top-notch on this game, as the gunshots sound like gunshots, and the enemies grunt and scream when you shoot them. Helicopters sound real, you can hear the engine in the jeeps, and so on. GAMEPLAY 10/10 The most fun light-gun shooting game available. this game portrays many challenges, such as helicopters, enemies shooting from jeeps, or the flamethrower enemies (ohhh those guys piss me off). A VERY fun and challenging item that they added onto this game are shields for the enemies. what I am talking about is that it doesnt take one shot to kill one enemy, but certain enemies have to be shot about 5 times to kill, making the game longer and more enjoyable. Another add-on that Namco produced was the weapon-select system. this system allows you to choose from four different weapons: The Handgun (unlimited), Machine Gun, Shotgun, and Grenade launcher(last three are limited). In order to receive more ammunition for the limited guns, you have to search and destroy certain yellow-armored soldiers. This new select system is very fun, and if for some reason you get angry at this one section, you can just shoot a grenade at all of the enemies, making you happier, and clearing that area. The one thing that I think that Namco should have left on from Time Crisis 2 is the double-gun mode....That mode was superfun. Namco created more Crisis missions, even harder and even more than before. Also, after you beat Arcade mode, you unlock a mode called the rescue mission mode, where you play as Alicia on her way to rescuing her brother. along the way, you can play a new feature: Sniper combat, which is pretty fun. GRAPHICS 10/10 top-notch. that all I have to say REPLAY VALUE 10/10 I, myself, play this game many times over again, as it is a very nice challenge with lots of fun in it. I recommend you buy this game with a guncon 2 (about 60 dollars. I know it is expensive, but you'll get over it) ... Read more Asin: B0000D8MBA |

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (08 November, 2002) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Set in the year 2008, Ghost Recon is a Tom Clancy-inspired war game that puts you in command of a Special Forces unit pitted against Russian ultranationalists trying to rebuild the former Soviet Union. Although the story arc is grand in scale (in keeping with Clancy's style), the game doesn't involve you in the war's major battles. You'll actually spend most of your time behind enemy lines--rescuing downed fighter pilots, knocking out enemy patrols, ambushing armor columns. You control a six-man squad, divided into two teams, and you have the opportunity to handpick your squad members (and their equipment) after each mission briefing. You can switch your point of view to any of the six active soldiers--the soldier you control automatically becomes the leader of his team, while the other team operates according to orders you give via a map interface. Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, then lead the other team in to reach your objective. Or, break up your squad and try to achieve two objectives simultaneously. The level of detail and realism is incredible, right down to the way the soldiers communicate in hushed tones and with gestures. The complexity of the game requires an elaborate controller setup that takes a while to get used to (luckily there are plenty of training missions designed to help you learn the multitude of movement, weapons, and command functions). Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's worth the time spent in boot camp. --Maile Bohlmann Pros:

Vampire Night Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (16 November, 2001) list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (14)
Apart from the lack of longevity I have a few other complaints about the game.Firstly the shop systems, basically the point is to collect ingots of silver hidden in boxes and crates throughout the game and use them to by things like weapon upgrades extra credits and stuff. My friend finished the game and still didn't manage to collect enough silver to buy a single item! What's the point of having these things here if you don't need them or never use them? Secondly I was a little disappointed with the graphic quality. The colours and polygons don't really seem to make use of the PS2s enhanced capability when compared to games like Smackdown of FFX.The final story sequence after you have clocked the game is particularly poor. Overall definitely not a game you should go and buy.Your thumbs will probably never forgive you for the endless, frantic, button tapping firing off endless rounds of ammunition. Really if you want to play a game like this go to your local arcade and drop a few bucks in House of the Dead.

Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (18 November, 2001) list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette, sequel to the hit arcade game and 2000's pinpoint targeting title Silent Scope, asks players to resume the role of an antiterrorist officer and engage in intense battles featuring two-player modes, movielike cinematics, and enhanced graphics. The suspense begins in the U.K., where a terrorist group has planned a deadly attack on an unsuspecting city. Taking on the role of an antiterrorist operative employed by a government-run peacekeeping agency, the player is tasked with tracking down and apprehending the terrorist group. Missions take place in a myriad of European environments, from London's River Thames to snowy Swiss mountain ranges. Featuring a unique targeting system and new enhancements such as the Thermal Vision Scope and the X-Ray Scope, players can skillfully zoom in and take out enemy targets. It is crucial for the player to complete each mission quickly and effectively, as it is timed and scored for accuracy. With the option of playing in two-player competitive or cooperative modes via a PlayStation2 network cable link, players will find themselves immersed in a mission like no other as they work to prevent terrorist attacks. ... It is challenging, but it grows on you in a matter of hours! I just keep getting better and better! The only part of this game that I really hate is original mission mode, believe me, except for the boss battles, stick with the arcade mode. Plus, it has a HUGE options menu to fit your every need! Konami's done it again! (I'm a big DDR freak!) All in all, a great game, and espically for the price!
