    Editorial Review

The Palm m125 is similar to the Palm m100 and m105 in its shape and classic, powerful Palm organizer functions. But it also offers several features that elevate it above the other two models--a memory card expansion slot, bonus software, and compatibility with peripherals for i705 and m500 series models.

The curved base of the Palm m125 fits snugly and comfortably in the palm of your hand. It features a protective cover that flips up and is flexible at the end--a nice touch to prevent damage if you scrape it against anything while opening. It also has a window on the cover that lets you check the time by pressing the button that pokes through.

Like other Palm handhelds the Palm m125 doesn't have a keyboard. Instead, you write shorthand-like strokes on the special writing area at the bottom of the backlit grayscale screen, which the m125 recognizes as letters. You can also tap with the stylus to type letters using an onscreen keyboard, as well as open menus and select icons. (For more keying power, you might consider the optional Palm portable keyboard.)

The Palm operating system (OS) is very efficient, so the 8 MB memory is enough to store a lot of data and quite a few applications, too. If you want to add more applications or content, you have two choices. First, you can find applications and e-books on the Web, download them to your desktop or laptop hard drive, and synchronize the data using the USB HotSync cradle, which attaches to the Palm universal connector at the base of the handheld. It's the same connector as on the m500 and m505 and Palm has promised to support it for three years, so there should be plenty of peripherals available.

Your other option is to use the expansion slot on the side of the handheld, which accepts Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) memory cards. Palm offers a number of expansion cards with content (such as e-books and Lonely Planet travel guides), applications (the PalmPak language translator, for example), and games. You can also store applications and content on memory cards (such as those from Viking or SanDisk) without sacrificing any of the Palm m125's 8 MB memory.

The Palm m125 comes with Palm OS 4.0, which has new e-mail and Web browsing software, and enables you to send SMS (Short Message Service). You can use infrared to connect to your cell phone for a wireless connection, or add an optional modem to connect to a standard phone line.

In addition to the standard built-in utilities and the Palm Desktop application (for both Windows and Mac), you get extra software including an e-book reader, Documents To Go (for viewing and editing Word and Excel documents), and AvantGo (which downloads Web content, such as news from BBC or the latest soccer scores).

For a budget PDA, the small, light Palm m125 has some nice design touches, is loaded with software extras, and can be customized with thousands of available Palm OS applications. It may not be the most powerful PDA on the market, but its expansion capabilities certainly kick it up a notch. --Mary Branscombe and Agen G.N. Schmitz

5-0 out of 5 stars It's doing exactly what I need it to do
This is my first PDA. I'm not someone who is using it all day to read email, play games, or browse the web. I need something I can keep comfortably in my fanny pack, that lets me organize my appointments (very few) and address book (not that many). I also need to keep multiple to do lists and write the occasional note. That's pretty much it. Oh, backlighting and something to protect the buttons from being pushed in my fanny pack. Pretty basic stuff.

I bought the m125 over the m100 or m105 because of the ability to use the expansion card (I'm not using it now but it's nice to know it's an option) and so I can use the USB cradle with my Mac (the OS X beta of the Palm desktop is working just fine, BTW). I am VERY happy with my purchase. The batteries are holding out well, too (I've only used the backlight a couple of times and I'm good about shutting it off--even though the power saver works great, too).

If you need something basic, the m125 will suit you just fine. If you need to go beyond basic, you shouldn't be looking at the m-series to begin with, right?

4-0 out of 5 stars A good start
So i bought the Paml M125 2 days ago.. Its my first Palm and im feeling pretty good about it. Its a nice size and fits in a pocket very nicely. The hot sync option is great cause, you can "get in synch"With the Palm program on your Pc and they share the info with each other . So if you enter an address on your PC, when you perform a "hotsync" your Palm gets the new info and viceversa. It has a card slot for extra memory or more programs or what have you. You can always get extra pograms for free from palm.com and other sources. It's also customiseable to the point of getting new face colors and all kinds of different cases. If you need internet access you can get it by purchasing a Palm pilot modem. They now come in wirleless form. Its definetly a positive product.
I do have a problem with the fact that the date book does'nt let you schedule past 12 am..I work in retail and have crazy shifts..Sometimes i work 4pm-1am and it can't be entered because its odviously past 12am which is the latest the hour in the program. That isnt the problem for most people's schedule but its a big thing for me.
    Well hope this helped you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great features - Short Life
Until yesterday when my M125 died for no apparent reason, I was happy with my m125. It was small and relatively light, and was comfortable to hold. It was a replacement for my old Palm III (Which the new owner tells me is still working) so learning Graffiti was not a problem. Call me crazy but I expect the product to last more than 17 Months. Yes it was bought new, not a refurb. The SD card was nice to hold large documents.

If you do get this model, make sure you do a hotsync before you change the batteries. If you fumble with a battery for a second, the changeout will take too long and you will have to restore from backup. I average 1 set of AAAs a month, so I have no complaints about battery life.

With the service fee being $100, it was not worth repairing beyond the online try this first FAQ on the palmone site.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works... what else is there to say?
Viking cards always work. Heck, you can leave one in your pocket and do the laundry and they'll keep right on working most of the time. (Yes, I've done that.) What else is there to say about a memory card?

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great!!
Bought the card for my Palm Tungsten T. So far so good. Have been using it for music. I love it! Also, fast shipping and smooth transaction.

1-0 out of 5 stars rebate not honored
I was disappointed that "Viking" would not honor the rebate as they said I did not send the UPC code from the package. I felt that I sent all they needed with the Amazon bill? I sent the cut out from the wrapping with a UPC code? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a chew toy
The SD card worked great until my Boston Terrior decided to find it on the floor and used it for a chew toy. It is now a mangled mess.

5-0 out of 5 stars First SD card for my Palm m515
This is the first expansion card I've purchased for my
Palm. Its everything I've anticipated. Its easy to insert,
    the memory access it fast.

The price for the 64MB cards have come down alot. I've
tried to do research on the different brands of SD cards.
I found more positive comments about Viking cards rather than
the SanDisk card. I'm sure SanDisk work fine, but I've not
read as many positive things about it.

All things being equal. The Viking was a few dollars cheaper,
and IMHO is a visually better looking SD card. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Viking 64 MB MultiMediaCard
I bought four of the Viking 64 MB Multimedia cards for my Compaq IPAQ (a portable MP3 player). Each worked flawlessly. They performed as well as the San Disk 32 MB cards shipped with the IPAQ mp3 player, but the Viking card had twice the memory capacity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better....
The 64 MB multimedia card is fantastic. Small size, weight, secure file transfers, rips up Compact Flash. Compact Flash's little golden rods sticking out of the back can degrade over time. MMC is perfect. If buying for an MP3 player, it NEVER skips like a compact flash will. MMC is the future. It may nto be big now, but wait until it storms in from asia. and you know where all of your electronics were made right!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality and cheaper than many
This card holds many pictures on my 2 megapixel camera and they are of great quality too. ... Read more
