    Editorial Review

What would Late Night be like if David Letterman was replaced by a superhero? That's the question posited by the Cartoon Network's original series Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the answer is: truly odd and frequently hilarious. The series took '60s-era animated crime fighter Space Ghost and reinvented him as the slightly addled host of a celebrity gabfest. SG's awkward chats with guests like David Byrne, Hulk Hogan, and the Ramones were frequently interrupted by his old foes Zorak (now the show's bandleader) and Moltar (director). Deliberately stilted and proudly absurd, the program was a strange but often dead-on parody of hollow celebrity worship, and garnered a loyal cult following. However, those diehard fans may be disappointed by this two-disc set, which features only 16 of the 22 episodes from the first three seasons (a clip from one missing episode, "A Space Ghost Christmas," is included in the supplemental features). Also somewhat of a letdown is the commentary from the show's creative team, which is amusing but rarely informative. --Paul Gaita ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst Material of the Series
I'm sure the numerous other reviews here can give you a general idea of what the show is about: old cartoon cells matched with clips from celebrity interviews, hilarity ensues. The concept is great, however, the first series of the show is undeniably the worst bunch of episodes they have ever produced.I'm a fan of the show, but when you've seen some of the later material you realize that they haven't gotten into their groove of humor yet, and if you haven't seen any of the later material I don't think you'd be compelled to watch any more of it.

Added to this is the fact that the commentaries are useless.Instead of providing any insight whatsoever into the process of making the show - which is what I, as a fan, was looking for - the creators sit around and joke about things that are barely relevant to the show.It is quite obvious that these commentaries were produced in a single take and that no thought was put into what to say before recording: the people who happened to be around talked over an episode and someone else recorded it.

Technically speaking the DVD is fine. The shows look and sound as good as you could expect them to.

Overall a dissapointment.I wouldn't reccomend this DVD to anyone who wasn't already a fan of the show.If you're looking to get started, jump right in to the later seasons of the show, and maybe check these episodes out later with a grain of salt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome back, stupid viewers! You'll watch anything!
Space Ghost has received a phone call from his wife, Björk

Space Ghost: Uh, hey, honey, how are you?
    Björk: Do you like sulfur?
Space Ghost: Sulfur? Sulfur's my favorite food, honey, you know that. Is that why you called me?
    Björk: Yeah.
    Space Ghost: Oh, great.
Björk: Can I sing in Icelandic?
Space Ghost: Uh, not now, honey, please, I'm right in the middle of, a, um... giant space war.
Björk: I... I enjoy talking to you.
Space Ghost: Uh, yes you do, but like I said, this, uh, space war, what can I do?
    pause
    Space Ghost: ...aliens.
    Björk: Yeah?
Space Ghost: Yeah, so, you have to go now.
    Björk: Okay.
Space Ghost: Okay, so... I'll talk to you when there's... peace. In space.

    That about sums it up...

4-0 out of 5 stars Train wreck.
This show is best the very first time you see it.I remember discovering this show on Cartoon Network years ago.My initial reaction was shock and bewilderment, but this was quickly replaced with amusement. It's a carefully constructed catastrophy of a talk show that is absurd, silly, caustic, and ultimately, inane.Somehow, it manages to lampoon talk shows and celebrity in a completely original and subversive way.

The best thing about the show is the timing.Much of the humor is found in the long awkward silences and stone-faced expressions.

I prefer Cartoon Planet because Brak became a permanent fixture.I can't wait for that show to come out on DVD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They finally star in a game, and it's good too
One could very rightly say that there is sort of a rivalry between the Mario Bros. Mario has starred in big games like Mario 64, Sunshine, Mario World, Mario 3 etc. Luigi however doesn't really have great games. He was in Mario is Missing and Luigi's Mansion and he only has co-starring roles like in Mario Party or Mario Kart. So finally they pair up and even then they reference the rivalry in the first game in awhile they star together in.

Story: Princess Cackaletta is bringing a gift to Princess Toadstool only she steals Princess' voice and replaces it with explosive vocabulary. Her words are literally bombs that explode. So off Mario and Luigi, a reluctant Bowser and some other cameos are along for the ride(sort of) has the Mario Bros try to rescue the Princess' voice.

Graphics: Some find it ugly, others say it fits perfectly in this context. I say it's both. It's not incredibly animated like Golden Sun and even one could say Mario RPG from the SNES looks better than this but it fits the atmosphere of the game.

Sound/Music: The ever popular Mario theme returns, as usual remixed too. There is little to no voice acting besides Mario's "let's go!" or Luigi's "alright!" and some other things. Mario games tend to have very little voice acting anyway.

Gameplay: You ONLY control the Mario Bros. This game is the spiritual successors to Mario RPG and Paper Mario, games where you controlled not just the Brothers, but here it's strictly a family affair. And so of course gameplay and battle screens A controls Mario and B controls Luigi always. It's kind of confusing at first, especially since RPG's were always one button for action commands but you'll get the hang of it.

The Brothers can team up on both play areas. Let's say that that platform is too high for them to jump. Put Mario in front and activate Luigi's power with the L and they can do a high jump. Likewise, substituting Luigi for Mario, they can do a Spin Jump which allows them to travel platforms too spaced out. Other abilities come your way like shrinking Mario or pounding Luigi into the dirt.

The game has a light-hearted feel with the dialogue and while not as sharply written as Paper Mario: TTYD, it's still enjoyable to read, especially to the nods to past Mario/Luigi adventures.

The game can be slightly challenging to the young-uns but then again even some stages in Super Mario World will drive anyone nuts but at least it's forgiving here and it's a good game too so it won't hurt to pick it up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a Dream Come True! The top of the game pyramid!
I really mean FUN with this Mario Luigi game! I never knew about this game until I got it with my GBA SP (See my last review for info about GBA SP). It's a mix of fantasy, RPG, and wits! You keep doing RPG things. BUT.... You can press buttons for defense, attack, and many new attacks that you learn along the way. I remember playing on of the old Mario games on my Gameboy, This is a revolution for GBPs (Gameboy Packs) (Which means games to play on GB).

You are supposed to rescue not the princess, but her "VOICE". They were stolen by some wierd looking bean guys. You travel with Bowser and try to rescue her voice, but you got separated by him. Mario and Luigi must go to the Beanbean kingdom where the new enemy plans some tricks up her sleeve! This is easy with action, but you need to think in order to finish it. No brains, you won't even finish a level! Oops, gotta play Superstar Saga, I would like to say more, but that's all I'll say. Bye-bye!

You may read no longer of my review......

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure joy
I have a theory about games like these. My theory is that their developers have secret access to a mysterious element called Happy, which they tuck into the microchip before shipping the game. This causes the strange effect of players not being able to cease smiling as they play the game. I have fallen under the effects of Happy, and here's why.

I loved the look of this game. Clear, sharp, and colorful, with gorgeous animation. I highly reccomend that you play it on a DS or GBA SP, as the extra light heightens the graphics to glorious levels.

The battle system is wonderful. You may not be able to believe that the superb Paper Mario combat system would translate well to a handheld, but ah, how wrong you'd be. Timing the button presses takes concentration, but is never frustrating or boring. You can use hammers, jumps, or even magical powers to attack, as well as an array of fun items.

Then there are the puzzles. This is where the Happy element is in its strongest form. As you progress in the game, you'll earn new abilities, and each and every one will help you solve the near-perfect puzzles. Use your hammer to whack the brother in front of you into the ground...light your partner's pants on fire to make him dash...or jump on his head to reach a high ledge. Whatever it is you have to do, it always makes sense. For this reason, I would reccomend playing without a strategy guide, since using one would ruin the fun of figuring the puzzles out.

The story, which is beautiful in its simplicity, has many twists and turns, so you never know what you might be doing next. One minute you could be hunting for beans to make Yoshis lay eggs, and the next you might be strategically using your hammer to help a fashion designer dye her clothes. This keeps the game fresh and exciting at every turn.

RPG elements are integrated masterfully. You can gain experience, level up, and even buy new equipment. These features add to the game, but never become a pain.

From the beginning, which features Mario running around in his underwear, to the end sequence, wherein Bowser is tied to the back of a plane in a gigantic gift box, this game is pure joy. So play it already. Feel the Happy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The love of money is the root of all evil
Once again, Tezuka Osamu serves up a hefty moral lesson, this time on slavery and greed, and how the lust for material gain can twist human beings into something ugly. Each of the four stories is entertaining, and surprisingly deep considering the simple style of art.

In the first story, Astro Boy seeks the mysteries of Robot Land, a fantasy robot theme park where robots act as characters from history and adventure. If it sounds familiar, Tezuka's story came out 10 years before Yul Brynner's similarly themed film "Westworld."However, the robots do not turn bad, but are rather being kept as slaves by the greedy Dr. Haido, who uses Robotland as a cover for his illegal gun smuggling operation.

The next tale, "Ivan the Fool," sees Astro Boy and some others on a trip to the moon. When they discover a valley of diamonds, and an ancient Soviet robot Ivan, the greed of one man and the incapability of someone who follows orders threatens to destroy the whole group.

The short story "A Day to Remember," a special day in future Japan where robot versions of dead family members come back to visit for a single day, in the tradition of the Japanese Obon festival. A time machine and a dead little boy who looks just like Astro Boy lead on to adventure.

Finally, in "Ghost Manufacturing Machine" a Hitler-like villain uses a machine to create an eternal ghost of himself that can live forever and inflict his evil on the world.Astro Boy and local hero-robot Platinum must fight against this unstoppable foe.

As with all the volumes in the Dark Horse Astro Boy series, the individual stories are not collected in any particular order, but do contain a brief introduction from Tezuka himself explaining his story, and what he thinks of it. ... Read more

Ready ... aim ... Crossfire! This shootout game gets the adrenaline pumping as two players fire small metal pellets across the board, blasting their opponents' pucks ever closer to their goal. Plastic shooters attach to each end of the Crossfire board. Players load 'em up with pellets from a tray. The pucks spin and move easily on bearings as pellets hit them from each player. The trick is to load quickly and shoot accurately to hit and push your puck into your opponent's goal as often as you can. With a setup time of only minutes, Crossfire is instant fun and there's no need for batteries or electricity, so it can travel and be played anywhere. Game level can be adjusted quickly by changing goal guards. The playing surface is less than 2 feet long, making it a great tabletop game. --Lee Strucker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good system, not quite the best
But you can't blame Sony. A vast library of games could be found. Now they've got the new PS2. Slimmer and better than the original PS2. Speaking of original, many games began on a Playstation. Though it has longer load times compared to Xbox, it got a head-start on games. Something that makes it better than Xbox is DVD. Unlike the Xbox, you can play DVDs WITHOUT any extra equipment required. But Sony is like Nintendo and Microsoft, making their games, for their system(why not?). PSOne games can be played on it. Maybe... about 8 PSOne games aren't compatible with PS2. Sony hasn't given in though. It's still the most prefered console.

    5-0 out of 5 stars PS2 overall
For christmas about 3 years ago i got an XBOX well that night when i was playing it something went wrong it told me the controller wasnt plug in when i knew it was so i had to returned it.After that i got a new XBOX and over the time frame i had itkept saying to sendit to microsoft but i never did. so about a year ago i bought a gamecube well that thing just sucked it had no gamesi hated it. so finally about 2 months ago i traded my XBOX,GAMECUBE and GAMEBOY SP in for a PS2.And let me tell you the PS2 is the real deal this thing has so many games has no problems . Every week i go out and buy a new game and the controller is so easy to use. so if you dont know what to buy im telling you i give PS2 4 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Time to choose
My review is about which system you should pick- X-Box or PS2?
Well first of all x-box has way better graphics. but the thing that really matters is games. PS2 games to me are for five year olds. For example, Sly 2. What 11 year old kid wants to play as a raccoon? My point is that kids today are different. WE LIKE VIOLENCE!!!!!!!! So if your considering a PS2, you should think of the person who will be playing it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NBA JAMS are the best on SNES.
This sequel to the first NBA JAM was a huge upgrade. More players to choose from, player substitutes, more modes, new dunks... I have nothing bad to say about this game.. but there is just one thing I wish it had have had from the first game... and thats the breaking of the backboard. It was so much fun to try to be the first to smash that backboard in the first game.

Still, I cant say wether this game is the better of the NBA Jam games or not, but the SNES defintly produced the best NBA Jams, so this game, or the original are the best fun for an NBA slammin', jammin, slam dunking good time.

The code to dunk from anywhere on the court is great fun to annoy your friends with. And the unlimited fire code works aswsome too.

Sony D-NF610 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman with Digital Tuner
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $129.95

    Editorial Review

Get the most from digital music with Sony's DNF610 portable CD player, which includes SonicStage CD Simple Burner software so you can take advantage of ATRAC3plus, Sony's proprietary music-compression technology when making custom MP3 CDs on a computer. The DNF610 puts the best of the broadcast world at your fingertips, too, with its FM/AM/TV/weather-band digital tuner. Using its 51-station preset memory, favorite stations are never more than a button away. The player also includes Sony's popular Jog Dial control for easy folder navigation, a two-line dot-matrix display, and achieves up to 40 hours of continuous playback on two "AA" type batteries (not included).

ATRAC3plus is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space (you'll get around 490 songs per disc at 48 kbps). The player comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with ID3 tagging and most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from a PC's hard drive and burns them to a CD using ATRAC3plus compression.

Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. Bookmark playback lets you program favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and CD Text support displays artist and title information with compatible commercial audio CDs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bang For Buck...
i got this player 2 years back from singapore where its sold as DNE-611 and i have no regrets at all, this player simply rocks.i have used the player extesively for jogging and have not had any problems with song skipping and not to mention the radio reception which is pretty good. This player is top notch as far as build Quality goes and would recommend this player.I dont use the atrac format although its a superior format and saves space,I'd rather burm my mp3 cds than convert them to atrac and use them...I saw a reviewer saying that he is reducing the rating by one star as its made in malaysia, this is stupid coz sony manufactures in malaysia and so does AMD,Intel and the most electronics manufacturers...

3-0 out of 5 stars Good CD Player, But Has Some Flaws
I recommend this cd player. One thing that irritates me is when I burn an MP3 cd, it ocassionaly comes up with the song ID and then doesn't play it. It then skips to the next song. Another thing that irritates me is when I place an MP3 disc into the cd player and close the lid, it takes forever to load the disc, and it makes a lot of noise while it's doing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CD player i've had!!!
I bought this Cd player, not knowing what it had. I knew it had a player, radio, weather, and TV, but there is a feature thatmade me love this thing. The feature is the Atrac3plus. It lets you put on like 500+ songs on one cd, all you need to do is download it on your computer and put all your cds and mp3 stuff on one cd. Its awsome and no one really cares or trys it.
Well besides that, this player is awsome. It like I said, has a cd player, radio, weather, and TV. Its also a mp3 player. This player has such clear sound, I heard things I didnt hear on my old panasonic. It also has 3 different bass choices, none, medium, and alot. It of course has the different modes like shuffel, repeat, etc....It has 3 different displays, normal, wich is how much time the song has beed paying, Time left, and the song # out of all the songs. It also has a jog dial where you just spin the dial and push in to choose a song, and it helps when you got 200 songs on one cd so you need to use it to look for your song. Also you can turn of the player and it will go to the exact spoyt where u stopped.
The only probably is that when you pause it, it makes an annoying beeping sound, but i got used to that.

Altogether, you need to buy this cd player. ... Read more
