5-0 out of 5 stars Very fast laser printer for the home office
I have small 3-PC network at home. I originally bought a Brother laser printer. It had a problem with paper tray sensor. Although it was cheaper, I'm glad I put the extra money for the HP 1200. My old printer was a Canon BJ-4300. Inkjet text quality doesn't even come close to laser technology. Of course, I'm keeping the old printer if I need to print in color.

Setup was very easy. Pop in the CD-ROM, run the program and it configures everything automatically. It was a bit unusual where they placed the parallel port. There's no power button but printing the demo page was a snap.

I bought this printer very recently. So far, so good. Standard cartridge prints average 2,500 pages with 5% coverage. They also have the high yield ones online which average 3,500 pages. It costs about $60-$65 per cartridge but this averages out to about 2 cents per page. Getting the high yield cartridge would be a better option. It's slightly less than 2 cents per page if you can buy the toner cheap.

Laser print quality is 1200 x 1200. I'm very impressed with laser quality. For black text printing, this is an excellent printer, and it does a good job when printing black and white graphics. If you don't print color or only print occasionally, I highly recommend buying a laser printer. It'll save money on the cartridges you keep having to buy with inkjets. Manufacturers and web sites will not tell you the average pages you can print from one cartridge. You end up paying more in the long run with the inkjet and get above average quality text.

4-0 out of 5 stars Affirdable HP Print quality & Dependability
I purchased my HP LaserJet 1200 printer because I was frustrated with the Epson 870 InkJet printer that I also own (the Epson is nothing short of a *RIPOFF*).

My HP 1200 is working it's way through it's third ream of paper since I purchased it. It is still using the original cartridge the printer came with.

*Print Quality Has Been Flawless*...even the ones I print in Econo Mode!

First print out in 10 seconds is *Great* and there have been No Paper Jams!

The only reason I didn't give this printer 5 stars is because it was slow printing big documents or complex graphics BUT that was easily fixed...$$$!!! bought me 32 megs of additional RAM. Now my printer shoots out my documents.

5-0 out of 5 stars HP 1200's Rock!!!!
I noticed this machine in Circuit City when I was there to pick up a laptop. I knew they didn't sell this machine there. They had it set up to print information off their web page from a computer they have in the store. I was very impressed with the speed and quality of the printout and wondered why they don't sell them. It also impressed me that they chose this particular machine to get such heavy use. I printed out over 20 pages with it myself and there was already a stack sitting in the out feed slot. A few weeks later my Canon BJC-3000 [pooped] out on me. I turned it on to print a letter and my computer wouldn't even recognize it. I changed USB cables and still got nothing. I fiddled with it for another hour before I determined it was dead and gone. So I scrapped it, picked up the HP 1200 and I'll never look back!

It was simple to setup. It took maybe 5 or 10 minutes total with zero hitches. I'm running Windows XP by the way. The toner cartridge just slips right in the front. It takes plenty of paper and I like the way it has a decent enclosure to keep the dust off. Right away I printed a letter on it and was thrilled with the output speed and quality. People at other review sites have complained about paper curl. It does curl ever so slightly but it also flattens right out. The curl is insignificant. This is a great printer at a good price. You have to be pretty darned whiney to find something to complain about with this printer.

I also printed out an envelope, which is usually a major stumbling block for printers. The HP 1200 has what's called a "priority slot" so that you can run oddball-sized objects through the printer without having to empty your paper tray or go through other aggravation. Word 2000 seemed to automatically detect the configuration and the envelope went right through and printed beautifully.

This is my first laser printer. I had an HP DeskJet 520 printer that lasted over 14 years before I sold it and I have no doubt this one will perform similarly. I can tell you I'll never buy a Canon again. It started giving me trouble right after Circuit City's 14 day return period ended and got worse and worse from there. I was able to hobble it along for just about exactly a year. It worked so badly I only used it when absolutely necessary. I don't think I even printed more than 500 to 750 pages with it. One year of lousy service is despicable. I won't use some of the expletives I have on the tip of my fingers about Canon products. I'll just say avoid Canons. This HP 1200 is like a breath of fresh air in comparison. I also know I can print to my heart's content without worrying about it giving me headaches. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked as advertised
It feels weird giving a rating to something like this, but it worked when I plugged it in and I have had no problems with it.
