    Editorial Review

Jim Carrey is getting smarter and smarter. The crude, rich clown took far less than the $20 million he could have gotten in order to star in Peter Weir's film The Truman Show, which made the covers of Time and Entertainment Weekly as "The Year's Best Movie." Carrey plays Truman Burbank, a man whose entire life has beena hit TV docudrama without his knowledge. This screenplay (by Gattaca author Andrew Niccol) is requiredreading, and the 35 good-quality color stills from the film in the photoalbum at the center of the book are nicely laid out with helpful, intelligent captions.

But The Truman Show: The Shooting Script also offers something not found in theaters: the back-story to the script, written by director Weir, who has never been weirder. It was so important to the creation of the movie that Weir actually hired Harry Shearer to help create a "mockumentary"--a documentary on the making of the movie. The mockumentary was scrapped, though a few scenes wound up in the finished film; what Weir gives you here is the whole prequel, "A Short History of The Truman Show." It tells how Christof (played by Ed Harris in the film), a promising, idealistic, Oscar-winning documentarian concerned with homeless people, conspired with shady ex-NASA operatives and the terrifying Omnicam Corp. to create a fake town full of actors and imprison the unsuspecting child Truman Burbank in it by messing with his head. For instance, they made Truman afraid of water so that he wouldn't swim away from his "home." It's a trip--and it just might provide a peek into certain dark crannies of the mind of Oscar-winning director Peter Weir. Just because you've seen The Truman Show, you don't know everything in this book. --Tim Appelo ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Script satire and TV satire
What a great "mockumentary" of the ultimate reality show.Full-color photographs and a satire treatise on the history of the Truman Show complement a truly brilliant script.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This is one of the greatest movies ever, mostly because of the brilliant script. It is pretty touching, creative, emotional and it really makes you think about how privilegded you are with your own privacy.
Christof tries, or better say he still did, to create a „perfect world" for Truman. A life, without any real emotions and "the best human actors". But the movie shows that a life without any emotions, including sadness, fear or pain, could never exist.
But nevertheless, sometimes I was wondering, how realistic und plausible it seems. You begin to ask yourself what if this all happens to you!?
I think this movie is open to many interpretations, which is what makes it so interesting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Filling in the holes...
As this is a review of this particular book, I won't spend time going into the details of how much I loved the movie, how I found it to be an allegory for life itself, how I nearly started a master's in Literature to be ableto write a thesis on it, or why I think some of the creepiest moments inHollywood can be found in this brilliant movie. Instead, I will recommendthis book, because it gives the reader some background details on Trumanthan help explain some of the more obscure scenes in the movie.Inaddition, the reader gets to see where Carrey made changes to the wayNiccol had originally pictured the film, and how these changes helped bringthe movie to greatness. The book is also handy to have around the housewhen the VCR is broken. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Discover the meaning of life... or whatever.
"Igby Goes Down" is the sort of first movie that most directors dream of -- cast of stars (Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Ryan Phillipe), sharp polished story, and just enough surreality to keep it from being dull. This warped coming-of-age tale is shown in its original screenplay format here.

Igby has flunked out of virtually every prep school his elite, rich family has sent him to. Now he's being sent to military school -- but he has no intention of staying. So he flees to the heart of New York, living in the loft where his godfather's mistress lives and hanging around with a beautiful college bohemian called Sookie. But Igby's life begins to unravel when his secret is found out, and Sookie falls in love with his brother.

Burr Steers certainly had a good thing going when he wrote "Igby Goes Down." It's a bit hard to follow if you haven't watched the film, since the movie has only a vague sort of plot. But Steers keeps it interesting with lots of witty dialogue and intricate details (he even describes what kind of shirt Sookie should wear in one scene). It's hard to believe that this was his first screenplay -- the end result is that polished.

That isn't to say that the screenplay really comes alive by itself. Without the vibrant sullenness of Kieran Culkin, Igby seems a lot less interesting and sympathetic, and Ollie seems much less cold without Ryan Phillipe's deadpan performance. And there are some scenes (like a freakish dream Igby has about Mimi) that never made it to the screen.

Adding to the interest is a series of black-and-white stills from the movie, and some production notes at the back. The notes include the origins of "Igby Goes Down," information on Steers, and what the actors have to say about their characters. It makes for interesting reading.

Lovers of teen rebels will probably like "Igby Goes Down," and people who loved the film will enjoy getting a behind-the-scenes look at the screenplay and production.

Nice movie. This book has the script (118 pages), a few pages of black and white stills, and the production notes. There's also a two page intro by the film's writer/director, to tell you what it's about, in case you don't get it. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

"I read the screenplay and nearly fell out of bed. I thought I better meet him quick before someone else read it."--Kevin Spacey

Actors and critics alike have praised Alan Ball's first feature film screenplay, which tells the off-kilter story of a midlife crisis suffered by Lester Burnham (played by Spacey). For fans of the film's dialogue--and there will be many--the screenplay allows Ball's words as well as the film's inventive imagery, from flying rose petals to a dancing plastic bag, to be savored.

Unfortunately for those wanting the inside scoop, this text is not the original shooting script but rather the screenplay of the final cut. But the script is so impressive, that's a minor quibble. The accompanying notes from Ball and director Sam Mendes are quite insightful, hinting at a different original ending and revealing Ball's odd inspiration for his idea: the tale of Joey Buttafuoco. Ball's TV background has made him an expert technical writer, and this book would serve as a great template for the fledgling screenwriter. It includes 20 black and white photos and a cast list. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great companion to the movie!
I loved the film, American Beauty. It is, quite simply, my favorite movie of all time! This screenplay is just as captivating as the movie...Because, in many ways, it is the movie!Alan Ball's script is really what made American Beauty the film that made jaded American moviegoers stand up and say "Thank you!"We can only hope that future filmmakers are taking note...Simply put, it is destined to become a treasured piece of modern Americana. :-)

3-0 out of 5 stars ***** for the text, * for production values of the book
If you have seen the movie, and were deeply touched by it, as seems inevitable, owning this screenplay is definitely worthwhile. Without having to put on the DVD, you can relive particular moments by just leafing through the pages. Alan Ball's script won multiple awards, and rightly so: it is a masterpiece of dramatic writing, merging the comical, the tragic and the spiritual in ways rarely seen in present day (American) film.
Yet this book isn't all it could, and in my view should, have been. It really offers very little besides the literal text of the final movie version (including some of Annette Bening's and Kevin Spacey's improvisations). Other film scripts I own include in-depth information about genesis, casting, production etc., loads of good still and behind-the-scenes photography, as well as discarded scenes and earlier versions of scenes. None of that here, even though several parts of the film were drastically altered during the filming. There is a 2-page intro by Mendes that adds nothing to the information contained on the DVD, if you own that; and the same goes for the even shorter afterword by Ball (who, on the DVD commentary track, isn't able to get a word in edgewise with Mendes, and so remains something of an enigma). Then there are a few grainy black and white stills that are an insult to the brilliant cinematography of the movie - and that's it. For makers of a film so ostentatiously concerned with the relativity of material things, it does seem like a rather cheap way to squeeze some extra bucks from it...

rick moody taps into the part of the world you only notice when you're really looking.he's funny and he's sad and i would hang out in this book forever, because the way the characters see things makes total sense to me.
"Blundering into the kitchen, he felt sure that it would always be this way, this blunt little diorama of a life with its cessation of miracles would never change--except that it would get worse."

    4-0 out of 5 stars A well-written, not-nice story
In the late fall of 1973 I was a twenty-nine-year librarian in Dallas, cheering on the downfall of Richard Nixon and learning to write book reviews. As Moody says, it was a very, very different time -- so different I doubt anyone under thirty-five can even imagine it. No call waiting, no cable TV, no AIDS or HIV, no laser printers, no CDs, no Reagan Revolution. The names Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin still meant something. We knew who Rose Mary Woods was, too. But still, New Canaan, Connecticut, was a very different place from north Texas. That fall, Benjamin Hood and his wife, Elena, took the final step toward the break-up of their shaky, unhappy marriage. Wendy Hood, age fourteen, was becoming known as a slut, though she wasn't a bad kid and it wasn't entirely her fault. Her brother, Paul, wasn't having much fun as a seventeen-year-old preppie, either. It was the year the key party came to the upscale suburbs. None of the characters in this painful-to-read novel are particularly likable. You might feel sorry for them, at least some of the time, but you wouldn't particularly want to spend time with any of them, or at least I wouldn't. But Moody keeps you reading, wondering how they're going to screw themselves up next. Making an engrossing story out of unpleasant people and distasteful situations isn't easy, but he manages it.

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting read
I feel that while it's useful to compare novels to films, it's wrong to just say that one or the other is better. So my review will be simply based on what I thought of the novel.

I liked Moody's writing style, especially the straightforward depictions of topics that are often somewhat muted in literature, such as sex and drugs. Though some parts of it seemed slow and artificial, overall it presented an interesting picture of the life of a troubled family in the 70s. I think it provides a good example of a family dealing with a crisis and avoiding breaking apart by keeping closer together. I would recommend the novel to those willing to experience some disturbing and thought-provoking moments. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

At three hours long, Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia qualifies as an epic, with a broad scope of characters whose lives become entwined over the course of a day in the San Fernando Valley. Despite its vast canvas, though, this is probably one of the most intimate epics you'll ever experience, because Anderson and his cast of actors delve into their characters so deeply that you feel you instantly know them. Anderson's screenplay of Magnolia is similar--a few pages in, you'll be hooked by the story and the characters. Numerous critics have derided Anderson's talents as a screenwriter while praising him to the skies as a director, but the screenplay for Magnolia shows a filmmaker at work with a keen eye for character development and a penchant for both brilliant monologues and amazingly deft one-liners. And unlike most published screenplays (which bill themselves as a "shooting script" but are in reality just a transcript of the finished product), this screenplay is truly the working script, complete with typos and scenes that didn't make it into the final cut of the film. Reading the screenplay, you'll see Tom Cruise's scenes with Jason Robards become more fleshed out, more scenes from Cruise's motivational workshop on "Seduce and Destroy," and most significantly, a subplot involving whiz kid Stanley Spector and the mysterious character known as "the Worm," who pops up only briefly in the film. Also included are some stunning color photographs and a great interview with Anderson, where you'll find out who gave him the idea of the rain of frogs, which character in the film is his favorite, and why he used a game-show milieu for a large part of the film. Truly a companion piece to the movie, a testament to the vision of a filmmaker, and, as Anderson puts it in his introduction, "an interesting study of a writer writing from his gut." --Mark Englehart ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent film but the script????
I have to say when I first read the script I was kinda of disappointed because there are changed lines in it like the scene where Frank meets his father for the first time its almost completely changed but I'm not mad its cool reading stuff from what Anderson wrote first But disappointing there are so many great stuff that are in the film but not in the script thats why I'm disappointed. Its a very well done script but changed.

See Magnolia first and then read the screenplay.

    Matt

5-0 out of 5 stars Operatic
In the bonus features of the Magnolia DVD, Julianne Moore calls the screenplay she's been reading for the last few minutes operatic, with big emotions that require sincerity to work. "Otherwise they wouldn't sound true," Moore says. That earnest praise is on display in PTA's astonishing cinematic masterpiece, but the film works so well not only because the director ensured sincere emotions from his actors, but because scope and power were already there in the script. PTA as a screenwriter , in my personal view, is more attuned with the charisma of cinematic medium than PTA the director. This screenplay, unconventionally, verbalizes the complex mechanics of a shooting script in advance, so here you will find everything on how the camera ought to maneuver, symbolic layers ought to be folded--from most superficial to the most arcane written out in advance--and it's a pity that not all of those details find their realization in the movie. The script is therefore more illuminating in terms of visual storytelling than even the movie by itself. When held next to one another, each one points out to the dissonances between the realm of the imagined and the realm of the possible. Magnificently grandiose, operatic screenplay--I recommend it to every moviegoer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gold

5-0 out of 5 stars Great in depth exploration
As a rule, don't buy shooting scripts if you want to write a screenplay.Shooting scripts are finished products.

That said, screenwriters can learn from this exploration of the classic movie (yes, folks, it is a classic, it's been shown a billion times on TNT), by reading the deleted scenes (my personal favorite is one about the publicity of Warden Norton's prison-to-work scheme, in which Heywood, played in the movie by William Sadler, gets his best and sharpest lines for someone who's supposed to be the dunce of the movie), the storyboards, the explanations of which scenes were kept, etc.

And for people who just love the movie, it's a must-own.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great buy for any film student or "Shawshank..." lover
As Frank Darabont says in the introduction of the book, who else would buy the screenplay unless they really want to know more about the film? Sticking to that idea, Darabont has given the film student/buff, and those who simply love the movie, a real treat with this book. Not only does it contain the screenplay, it's the screenplay (I emphasize) AS IT WAS WRITTEN BEFORE FILMING. He's published it exactly as he wrote it when he adapted it from King's novella. I point this out because, as Darabont himself points out in the intro, so many screenplays that are thrown out by merchandise wizards are nothing but the finished movie transcribed. And really, what good is that to someone who wants a deeper knowledge of the film?
Not only does he give us the original screenplay, he gives us a scene-by-scene comparison of the screenplay vs. the finished film, and why things got changed/added/left out. This, in particular, says a lot about Darabont to me. This is a man who wants to use his work not only to be what it is (a GREAT film), but to educate as well. This book inspires. He includes storyboards, as well (including a storyboard for a deleted scene- oh, goody, goody!) and introductions by both himself and Stephen King, and a summarizing bit of advice to budding filmmakers and screenwriters. I devoured this book in short time (one night), lol, and found myself going back to the film to compare and analyze- if you don't do the same after reading it, I'll eat my foot.. okay, maybe not. But something drastic, I warrant you. If you are at all inclined to learn about filmmaking, writing, or even if you just love "The Shawshank Redemption" (which is what lead me to the book in the first place), this is a real must-have. It's worth the price alone just to read what he had to say about filming Freeman's scene walking through the field after discovering Andy's message. Trust me. By the way, fellow "Shawshank..." lovers are welcome to ...discuss it. Enjoy this book, everyone. It's a real find. And I'm SO glad I chose to buy it. The ONLY reason I give it four stars as opposed to five is because, personally, I would have liked to have seen more storyboards.

5-0 out of 5 stars It just doesn't get any closer than this...
This is a truly fantastic piece of work!!! If you really enjoyed the movie, and is fascinated by the art of filmaking, this book is for you. More than just the script of the film, the analysis by Frank Darabont takes to a totally different level and perspective. It actually makes you think like a Director.Other than this, just being in the production yourself... This is a true making-of The Shawshank Redemption, that is totally worth the price. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Puts the film in an entirely different light
If you've seen the film enoughto be fiarly familiar with it's structure and narrative, this script will be a revelation. As stated in the title, this is a "shooting script",the original version submitted to the producers at the onset of the film's production, before the actors and director started fiddling with it.There are many, many scenes and passages here that greatly clarify the direction of the story and provide crucial motivations and psychological subtexts that you may miss in the completed film. However, scriptwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaczewski provide insight into this in the fantastic forward to the script,in the process giving a fascinating glimse into all the labirynthine exigencies involved in getting an original spark of insiration into the multiplex. They explain the step-by-step process of telling Kaufman's story-what to put in,what to leave out,how to handle certain aspects of his life, shaping the messy, complicated, and open-ended events of his career into something resembling a coherent,three-act drama.Ultimately, they decided-wisely-to treat the film as Andy would have,to let his art and performances define the film, just as they defined his life, and to use a constantly shifting base of perspective to keep the audience on thier toes,a brilliantly executed exercise in what-is-real and what-isn't.If you loved the film, this script provides an essential companion that will give you a new appreciation for it,but even if you're not particularly fond of it,or even Andy Kaufman hiomself, this is still a fascinating look at the creative process, and how it holds up throughout the production of a film.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars This IS a shooting script!
WOW! This is a GREAT example of a shooting script, something that was very different before the movie, and was molded into a more "managable" form through shooting and editing.

But is managablea better thing? Scott and Larry are great screenwriters, and crafted agreat screenplay here. However, Milos Forman (the director) took the movieand made it into something not as personal as it could have been. Oh well.

But this is why shooting scripts that are actually the original scriptbefore any shooting ever took place are important (you hearing thisAmerican Beauty?). To show us how a screenplay can change when it goes frompaper to celluloid.

Read this screenplay to see what the movie could havebeen like :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes! It's that good!
"Man on the Moon" has to be on my top three best screenplay list for 1999-2000.It's a great screenplay with great words and conversations.I love it and I'm sure you will too. ... Read more

GREAT PHONE NOT ONLY DOES IT LOOK HOT AS HELL BUT IT FULLY CHARGES IN LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF - ATTWS IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE CELL

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Phone ever
This is one of the worst phone ever i have owned. Hangs up in the middle of the conversation and call does not end till it is shutdown.

Least to say AT&T service is the worst ever i have encountered till now as a consumer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Service Provider and Very poor phone in my life
The service really sux. Half the time u can not receive the signals. The reception in the phone is very poor. Hangs in between you have to turn the phone off and switch it on again to make another call if it hangs in between a call. Till now i cannot figure out its due to the poor service provided by AT&T fellas or the worst quality of the phone. The customer service in AT and T is the worst i have ever seen in my life. I will rate the customer service as one of the poorest service in the world.
MY ADVICE IS NEVER HAVE A SERVICE WITH AT & T IN LIFE AND NVER BUY THIS PHONE!!! This is my personal experience. Still if you want to try. Then i cannot help fate playing in ur life!!! ... Read more

    PalmOne Tungsten T3 Handheld
    by PalmOne
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Kicking the technology advances up another notch, the Palm Tungsten T3 delivers a professional, sleek alternative to bulkier Pocket PCs that's chock-full of productivity enhancing and information sharing applications. Improvements over the T2 include a full-screen mode when the bottom casing is slid open, a bevy of enhanced display options, compatibility with Java applets, larger internal memory, and an easier to access status bar.

    First, just the technical facts:

    • Palm OS 5.2.1
    • 32-bit, 400 MHz Intel XScale processor
    • 64 MB internal RAM, with 52 MB usable for applications and file storage (an improvement over the T2's 29 MB usable RAM)
    • Bluetooth wireless connectivity
    • Secure Digital memory card expansion slot
    • 4.3 (closed) x 3.0 x 0.66 inches, 5.5 ounces

    The T3's Stretch Display
Overall, the Tungsten T3 isn't that much smaller than the Zire 71, but it does feel nicely compact in the hand and its larger navigation button is easier to manipulate with just your thumb. However, the "wow factor" comes into full force when you slide down the bottom of the T3's case to reveal the full screen mode. And it gets even better. The standard "silkscreened" Graffiti input area (so-called because its icons and borders are printed onto the screen's glass) is now replaced by a digital version, which can be hidden to reveal an even larger screen. We found this useful when writing long notes in Memos and viewing an expanded daily calendar view. You don't actually need the Graffiti writing area to input data into notes or Calendar items. With the Full-Screen Writing preference turned on, you can write Graffiti characters anywhere on the screen (you'll even see an outline traced on the screen as you write). But the crowning display enhancement is the ability to rotate the screen to landscape view, which was especially handy when viewing downloaded movie trailers (using the included Kinoma video player). If you're left-handed, you can change the orientation in landscape view so that the status bar and Graffiti input area are more accessible to your own orientation.

The T3 includes the familiar suite of Palm applications (Calendar, Contacts, Memos, and Tasks) as well as a number of third-party software title (ranging from Acrobat Reader to RealOne Player for listening to digital audio). Calendar has been given an Outlook-friendly makeover, adding an Agenda view that consolidates all of today's appointments, tasks, and new e-mails. With full-screen mode on, Calendar's month view now displays smaller calendars for the previous and next months.

Bluetooth wireless functionality is built in, and the Tungsten T3 still includes the BlueBoard and BlueChat for sharing information with other Tungsten users. For Web communication, Palm includes VersaMail and WebBrowser Pro, both of which can be used along with a Bluetooth phone. Additionally, VersaMail can access a corporate e-mail account, including Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino servers.

Java has also now entered the Palm OS arena, expanding the application development opportunities. The T3 comes with a few sample applets (including a periodic table that would be handy at our local pub's trivia night), but we'll have to wait for more development before Java becomes a full Palm OS tool.

Our only complaint, design-wise, is the placement of the Voice Memo button, which as been placed toward the top of the left side of the case, below the on/off button on the top panel. When turning on the device, our left hand's thumb continually triggered the Voice Memo app when attempting to turn on the T3. Note that you can also turn the T3 on by pressing one of the application buttons surrounding the Navigator, or by sliding the bottom case open. Overall, the Tungsten T3 is a Palm powerhouse, blending its traditional information management strength with new multimedia and connectivity functionality (both wired and wireless). It's about as perfect a personal productivity agent for professional settings as it gets. --Agen G.N. Schmitz

    Pros:

    • Crisp, bright color screen
    • Fast processor, ample internal memory, and expansion slot to boot
    • Digital Graffiti input area can be hidden for full screen display
    • Screen can be rotated to landscape view
    • Access to corporate e-mail and Bluetooth wireless connectivity

    Con:

    • Voice Memo button gets in the way of turning on and off

4-0 out of 5 stars Why a T|T3 is still a great PDA as of May 2005.
As every product review arises from the unique preferences and tastes of a particular individual, I begin with the following disclosures. (a) I'm a medical professional and I think that the volume of medical references and tools available for PDAs, and especially palms, is transforming the medical professions for the better. (b) I do research and I use Windows laptops, and UNIX workstations, regularly, almost all day. (c) Scheduling and reminder notices are a key part of my work and
    personal life.

More on (a): It follows that I'm partial to the Palm platform and the medical software for PalmOS that I've accumulated over the years. The medical software available for Palms makes continuing medical education a pleasure for me. In a few free moments, or even as a break from the work routine, I like to read up on medical subjects from 5MCC or Harrisons' or epocrates. In casual interactions with other medical professionals, or while reading the newspaper, or looking over
content.nejm.org, sometimes I want to look up some quick information to refresh my memory.Medical information on a Palm is often at the perfect level of detail. It's key, however, that the Palm be accessible, that it be in my pocket with my wallet or in my labcoat. If it takes me more
than 20 seconds to find the information I am wondering about, often, the information may not be worth tracking down. The T|T3 has a near ideal size, the size of a wallet. I would think that the T|T5, the T|Es and the Sony TH55 would be very comparable, but the T|T3 is still smaller. The upcoming LifeDrive looks too large and heavy. Many of my medical programs want to reside in
volatile RAM; that argues against the 16MB limit of the TH55 and, perhaps, the 32MB limits of the T|Es. The T|C appears to be an important contender, but I prefer the security of short-range Bluetooth to 802.11b WiFi without WPA-PSK/AES. Also, it is likely that unencrypted 802.11b violates HIPAA.

More on (b): For research work, there is a clear separation from the heavy-weight computing tasks for which I need a workstation, the medium-weight tasks for which I need a luggable laptop, and light-weight scheduling, quick notes, reminders, etc. that a PDA does well. I don't want my PDA to
be a database or have the feature sets of office productivity suites. Still, adding research info. management to medical info. management increases demand on volatile and non-volatile storage. This argues for the T|Ts, the T|C and the LifeDrive.

More on (c): I want my PDA apps to be useful day-to-day, quick to launch and nimble to use.Keeping this in mind, I was disappointed that PalmOne did away with voice recording on the T|T5.I like the idea of using voice recordings for quick memos while driving or just before going to bed or adding voice-over notes on calendar and to-do apps. The T|C will do voice recording, but with the hassle of an external mic.Unfortunately, that little hassle could be too large a barrier to my using a voice-memo feature regularly. That takes me back to the T|T3.

The Treo 650 would be a reasonable contender. But I like my PDA to be available for scheduling and note-taking while I am talking on a cell-phone. So for me, the two should be separated.Besides, I've recently signed up for another two years with Nextel. That excludes the Treos. In the back of my mind is also the fact that cell phones aren't compatible/safe with many hospital wards.Unfortunately, as of today, there precious few sources of new, warrantied T|T3 available in the US.Amazon & associates just sold the last of the warrantied OEMs; I squeaked by and managed to get one of these. Ebay may be the only remaining source. I bought a spare T|T3 and some spare parts from ebay last week and I've been happy with this route.

To conclude, I assert the T|T3 is still a great PDA as of May 2005.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, except for the screws!
Great product! My wife works in real estate, so the Tungsten T3 is invaluable to her. Easy to use and durable EXCEPT for the 4 little screws on the side of the slide part. They are NOTORIOUS for coming loose and falling out. They are so tiny that you do not even notice them come loose untill they have fallen out and are gone. However, I have contacted PalmOne and they graciously sent me 4 new screws for no charge. Great customer support!

4-0 out of 5 stars To "tommy mike" and the White Screen of Death
Caveat emptor: I, too, had the same problem when attempting to run the Universal Wireless Keyboard (UWK) with my T3.Apparently, you have to download an updated version of the Keyboard.prc (located on Palm's website) and install that along with two other prc's that came bundled with the UWK installation CD.In my case, my T3 actually froze and would not even respond to a hard reset. But I called Palm's tech support, got it exchanged, uploaded the other prc's, and it's been working brilliantly ever since.

This problem is actually really common among T3 users.Anyone experiencing the same problem, might find this post from the palmOne Help Forums useful:http://forums.palmone.com/pe/action/forums/displaysinglethread?rootPostID=20140203&returnExpertiseCode=__Accessories__USCA

Aside from that little hitch, I highly reccommend the T3.The expandable view screen and landscape mode definitely evoke that "Wow" factor. And functionally, it's great.I'm a student, so I've started taking all of my notes on my T3.Here's where the landscape mode really comes in handy. And now that my UWK is working, it's easy as pie.

I should add that warnings about a low battery life are right. It does seem to run down pretty quickly.I got a travel charger to add some juice in between classes, which seems to work fine and doesn't take up a lot of room.So I reccommend getting either that or an attachable battery if you plan to be using your T3 extensively during the day.I believe the average battery life is 4 hours without a recharge (less if you plan to be browsing online or using the high media apps like the Kinoma player).

Hope that helps! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every clam you'll spend !!
This is well worth the $'s you'll spend simply because it will last forever. My son got this for his second birthday (6 months ago) and he still takes it out and plays with it frequently. He loves to carry him around and uses him for a pillow when he lays on the floor and read his books or plays with his toys.

If your child loves Spongebob - you won't regret this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy
This is the best toy I own. It is a fun toy. I recommend it

1-0 out of 5 stars Very worrying
I, for one, remain unconvinced by the so-called "hilarious antics" of this jaundiced sea-sponge. I would question the educational value of a mass produced toy whose one feature is trousers you can remove to allow you to see underwear. If I saw one of my children gleefully ripping off "Sponge Bob"'s trousers to stare in wonder at his pants, I'd be truly disturbed. What kind of example is that to set? Buy your children some Lego instead, or best of all, get them out of the house for a nice walk in the countryside before they end up spending the rest of their lives as square-eyed vegetables in front of the TV. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars funniest game I every played
I can't believe someone said this game was boring and had bad graphics. I think they are confusing it with another sponge bob game. the very 1st spongebob game for playstation (back in 2001) did have really bad graphics and was very simple, my 5 yr old could complete the game, and I was able to finish the whole game in One night.

But the new one 'Battle for Bikini Bottom' is Nothing like the 1st one, the graphic look like your watching the actual spongebob cartoon in 3-D. And you never get bored with this game each stage has so much to do!!! Like smashing enough tikki's, trading flowers with Mr. Krab's for a golden spatula, climbing hard to reach places to find extra underwear, fitting robots, bowling, bubble smashing, jellyfishing, bungee jumping and more. Best of all you really feel like your in bikini bottom!! My son thought smashing up squirdward's house and hearing squidward tell spongebob to get out, was a hoot. I was Never bored with this game, I really hated having to turn it off to go to bed because it was so much fun play and it took me 2 months to complete the whole game because there is so much to do.

If you like the cartoon you'll love the game

3-0 out of 5 stars Spongebob Boringpants
Wow!I haven't seen any thing this boring since, well, ever.Just like Spongebob, this game is full of holes. The moves are boring (except for sandy).I mean, come on, how can you kill something with a jellyfish net?The graphics are average, the story line is trash, and the bosses are very unoringinal.Hmm,I wonder what character could look like a robotic squirrel?Basically,it's a mediocre game.Little kids will love it,but older gamers will definitely hate it.

5-0 out of 5 stars battle for bikkini bottem
This game is very fun! You get to smash tikis, and break computers. You also meet robots. It's not very educational, but it doesn't break. My little brother (he's 6) plays for hours and hours. The game is a five-star game! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

For those of you who didn't grow up in the era when every kid had one, the Magic 8 Ball is a fortune-telling device shaped like an oversized billiard ball and filled with some unidentifiable dark liquid. You ask it a yes-or-no question, "Does Jenny in my English class think I'm cute?" Then you shake the ball and see what answer shows up in the window, written on the side of a plastic die. This is a SpongeBob-themed Magic 8 Ball, meaning that it's imprinted with a SpongeBob logo and gives some answers that sound nautical, such as "Aye Aye, Captain." Sure, it's nothing earth shattering, but it does provide the same harmless diversion as the original Magic 8 Ball. --David Stoesz ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was excited at the prospect of my children playing with a toy that I had enjoyed.

However, you can hardly ever read the magic 8 ball because the liquid is to dark.I also wanted the traditional comments so I guess I should have stuck with the "original" magic 8 ball.

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok
I'm a Spongebob fan, I got it for my collection. Initially, the first one was already busted open when I got it. Amazon usually packs well so I was surprised it was cracked and leaking when I got it. Sent it back, no issues.

Got the new one and was not too impressed other than it is a Spongebob toy. The little triangle that is inside with words on it is barely visible more than 50% of the time. It's as if it's not heavy enough. Most times it ends on the edge of the triangle and you're reduced to twisting and turning the thing so you can see what you can get. When it does show, you can barely read it because it's not up against the window enough to push all the blue away??

Not too thouroughly impressed. Barely any of the toys I've bought have been durable or reliable from Nickelodeon. I'm almost to the point of not buying their items anymore.

    Editorial Review

John Singleton, at the age of 23, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his debut film, Boyz N the Hood. The film stars Laurence Fishburne, Angela Basset, Ice Cube, and Academy Award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. in his first starring role in a feature film. Gooding plays Tre Styles, a teenager growing up in South Central Los Angeles. His father, Furious (Fishburne), is divorced and living away from Tre and his mother (Basset), but he's still involved in Tre's upbringing, teaching him the values of right and wrong and responsibility. Meanwhile, Tre's childhood buddies Ricky (Morris Chestnut) and Doughboy (Ice Cube) are living their lives in terms of the epidemic of violence and poverty that has plagued their neighborhood. Ricky, a talented football player, strives to get a full athletic scholarship to college. If only his SAT scores were higher. Doughboy lives a life full of crime but still remains true to his friends. The obstacles that these three young men come across result in dire consequences, devastatingly avoidable and inevitable at the same time. Boyz N the Hood is a landmark film beyond its commercial success, presenting a portrait of South Central in the late '80s and early '90s as painted by Singleton (who grew up in that neighborhood), achieving accuracy and dramatic resonance in this story of at-risk youth. --Shannon Gee ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Haunting Inner City Movie
It's been some time since I saw "Boyz 'N the Hood" but much of it has stayed with me.I was impressed by so many of the elelments that went into making this such an excellent movie; the acting, the directing, the writing, the editing, virtually everything.I'm just a fellow who grew up in Iowa and lives in North Dakota so I'm hardly one qualified to praise this film for its' realistic portrayal of inner city life.I don't know if this movie is "realistic" or not in that regard. However, I know that the writer and director had a message to convey and they conveyed it well.

"Boyz 'N the Hood" is about many things. It is about the challenge of raising a child in a one-parent home.It is about the senselessness of random, pointless violence. It is about the limited means of escaping the ghetto as a child growing up in it (and it does an excellent job of contrasting the dependability of education over sports). It is about the importance of having pride and respect for your self. There are so many messages on so many levels that it is hard to absorb them all in a single viewing. That is what is so impressive about this movie.

Although the movie shows us dead ends, violence, emptiness, failure, sorrow and despair, it leaves us with hope and an appreciation that that the straight and narrow road is still the best route to success no matter what the point of embarkation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clasisc drama but with some sterotypes!!
This film is great and classic. This is the best creation of John Singleton, nomitated for two oscars: director and writer, this is the film that started it all: inspired "Don't be a Menace" and "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas". This movie is WHORTH buying it!!!

One of the reviewers above said that the movie contains to many sterotypes, it's not THAT true!! but I think he meant to the movie "Don't be a Menace".

The stereotypes in this film are that the black people are VERY,VERY dangerous and few are educated (this is even worst than the Hollywood movies), black people addicted to sex, black people always cursing and black people always hearing Hip Hop music (this is one of the WORST and ANNOYING sterotypes ever).

The movie is also blaming other people for the problems in the hood and I don't understand why the "N" word is a horrible and racist word if they keep saying that all the time!!!

P.S: Don't get me wrong! This is one of the best movies I ever seen! Im addicted to it!!! and when I said that stuf abou Hip Hop I meant that not all the black people hear Hip Hop.

    ADIOS!!

    Editorial Review

A nifty little film about a gang of would-be crooks and a heist that goes awry. That probably sounds like a premise you've seen about a hundred times in the past few years, but Welcome to Collinwood rises above most other caper movies due to a strong script, clean and inventive direction, and above all an outstanding cast: Sam Rockwell (Galaxy Quest, Safe Men), William H. Macy (Fargo, State and Main), Isaiah Washington (Clockers, Out of Sight), Luis Guzmán (The Limey, Punch-Drunk Love), Jennifer Esposito (Summer of Sam, Shaft), Patricia Clarkson (High Art, Joe Gould's Secret), and several other great character actors have such chemistry, wit, and sheer talent that it's a pleasure to watch them scheme, wriggle, and woo each other through an elaborate plan that's doomed from the start. George Clooney also appears (and coproduced the movie). Smart and charming. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great film on several levels
Loving misfit comedies as I do ... (OK, loving George Clooney as I do) ... and being from Collinwood myself long ago, I decided to check out Welcome to Collinwood.

Bad news first ... I was disappointed in Clooney's role. Good news ... that was all I was disappointed in. THis movie was a laugh riot from beginning to end while at the same time conveying an endearing pathos. This is the first time I have ever seen a criminal caper movie and felt sorry for and touched by the lives of the criminals, even while I was laughing MAO. These guys "punch through" the problems in their lives with interesting results. Jeter and Macy are fantastic and if you ever wondered what was Sam Rockwells breakout role, this is it.

I was born and raised in Collinwood in the 60's, and attended OH Perry school as a kid. This is not the Slavinian-rich neighborhood I remember but I guess nothing stays the same in this life, not even Cleveland. Check out this unique movie about my old neighborhood, you'll be glad you did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Laughed Out Loud!
I was delighted to find some of my favorite actors together in this film: Luis Guzman: Michael Jeter (who recently died)and William Macy. Luis is a scary-looking dude--that was the first thing I noticed about him--but he is a good actor. His reply to anyone he's mad at in this is "Your mother is a w_____! For some reason, I found that hilarious. Then at the end they say about his character--"poor guy, his mother was a w_____."
The movie has a lot of physical comedy that is well-done.Michael Jeter is such a natural--he is a pleasure to watch.(See "The Green Mile.") William Macy carrying that darling baby around with him added a quaint touch.
    This movie will surprise you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stick with the original!
Probably not too many viewers realize that 'Welcome to Collinwood' is a remake of a brilliantly funny Italian movie 'Big Deal on Madonna Street'. Unfortunately, the features that made the original sparkle (great characters depicted with love and care), are not present in 'Welcome to Collinwood'. What's left is an uninspired mess. The characters that were supposed to represent the Italian soul were not successfully transformed to American soil. Instead, they were shamelessly copied from the original. As a result, the characters and many scenes in 'Welcome to Collinwood' do not make sense and look contrived. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

    Bad Boys
Slick to a fault, this glossy action flick takes place in sunny Florida, where Martin Lawrence and Will Smith play two cops--one married with kids, the other a swinging bachelor. The two are forced to trade places to foil criminal mastermind Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo) who has stolen $100 million worth of heroin from a police lockup. Violent, illogical, and filled with wall-to-wall profanity, Bad Boys was the last film produced by the hit-making team of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer before Simpson's untimely death, and marked the directorial debut of Michael Bay who followed up with The Rock. Bad Boys will be of interest to action buffs and fans of Téa Leoni, who makes one of her early screen appearances in the central supporting role. --Jeff Shannon

    Bad Boys II
No one goes to a movie directed by Michael Bay for delicacy and grace; you go because Michael Bay (Armageddon, The Rock) knows how to make your bones rattle during a high-speed chase when a car flips over, spins through the air, and smacks another car with a visceral crunch. Bad Boys II fulfills this expectation and then some. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence may be mere puppets amid all this burning rubber and shrieking metal, but they actually provide a human core to the endless cascade of car wrecks and gunfights. Their easy rapport makes their personal problems--a running joke is Lawrence's attempts at anger management--as engaging as the sheer visual hullabaloo of bullets and explosions. The plot is recycled nonsense about drug lords and dead bodies being used to smuggle drugs, but orchestration of violence is symphonic. If that's your thing, then this is for you. --Bret Fetzer ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Bad Boys is my all time fave movie, being a girl i'm not expected to like it, but i don't go for soppy movies, it has to be something with car chases, gun fights and all round action, Bad Boys offers this, plus I feel that the comedy from Martin & Will adds so much more to the film.

Bad Boys 2, at first I wasn't sure, thought it was a little over the top, but after a second viewing I was hooked, the scene with Martin in the Funeral Parlour has to be my fave.
If you liked the first you'll like the second even more, probably because of the length of time it's been since Bad Boys.

A must see if you like your Comedy "Blown Up" top class action movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad to the Bone
The bad boys series are great with popcorn, a beer and a couple of friends to watch it with.Action, comedy, explosions, probably not the chick flick you want to watch with the significant other. The dynamic between Martin Lawrence and Will Smith is great and makes up for any holes in the story.I hope they make this a trilogy!

5-0 out of 5 stars You know you'll buy this movie
These movies are the best ever. Bad Boys 1 has a better story and 2 has hell of better action scenes. The bad thing about the second is that the story really sucked. Its still a good buy though. If you like movies, youll love this. ... Read more
