Editorial Review

Cross an electronic organizer, a cell phone, and a hand-held game caddy, and you have the Cybiko--the toy for Generation Y.Cybiko touts this hand-held unit as a "Wireless Inter-tainment System" for communicating (e-mail style)and playing video games--just what young, mobile, tech-minded kids are into these days. Thismultifunctional device offers wireless, high-frequency, digital connections to other Cybiko units within a range of 150 feet indoors to 300 feet outdoors.

Among the Cybiko's many functions: Users can chat wirelessly, play interactive games with friends orother Cybiko users, e-mail anyone on the Internet, and nurture the cyberpet, "CyLandia." The Cybiko alsohas a "Find a Friend" feature that can be utilized like personal classified ads. Tons of new games and internet software can be downloaded daily from Cybiko.com into the Cybiko unit. Also, it stores addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, and even offers a personal planner.

The Cybiko has a few minor limitations: It only downloads from personal computers, not Macintoshes; forinitial use, upgrading and "staying in the loop" depends on downloading vital information from Cybiko'sWeb site, including all Cybiko-compatible games; and users must plug into a hard drive to send and receivee-mails.

Included is one Cybiko unit, equipped with a stylus for keying tiny buttons; a rechargeable battery, an adapter for charging or plugging in; and an adapter cable for downloading to and from PCs. There's also adetailed user's manual to help with the initial programming. The Cybiko is 5.7 by 2.8 by .86 inches, weighsless than 5 ounces, and churns with a 32-bit, 11-MHz Hitachi main processor, and 512 KB of RAM. --Diane Beall ... Read more

this toy reminds me of when mike said he weighed 110 pounds. he said 110 pounds!!! and he was claiming he was 5'6 but he really was 4'11 and that was when mike liked skateboards. he said he likes girls but he was afraid to admit it and he said he is a cool guy and he wants to chat it was when mike was a cool person but now....hes changed and back then rossler was cool and he liked video games but now hes a drunk and matt used to be cool and skateboarded and was into video games alot but now he likes to do drugs.....the cybiko is really cool and it seems outdated because it is an LCD screen and it reminds me of when cell phones were not in color and it was during the good old times.....and joey was a good person and he said "you are my best friend"....but now hes a monster....and he is infected and addicted and he was supposed to be the young buck of woodhaven but now hes just washed up and jay was supposed to be the eric sermon of woodhaven and rossler was supposed to be the eazy e of new york and mike was supposed to be the adam sandler of new york and i was supposed to be the Nas of new york and when joey used to hang out with us and was really cool and we had his back cuz he was cool and he said ace is cool i dont make fun of him but now they backstabbed me

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst toy ever
I got this toy for christmas and I thought it was the worst toy ever. I took it out of the box and turned it on. On the screen, it was missing some dots on the screen. I replaced the battery and it did the same thing. I returned it and got a new one. It didn't work either. Just for fun, my dad opened it up and looked at the inside. He said there was a piece missing. He also said this toy was just a pile of crud.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neat Toy!
I got Cybiko on July 16 and liked it at first, but I soon noticed it only works when it is plugged in. So my dad exchanged this Cybiko for a new one. This one worked just like it should. I installed Cyberload and downloaded Cylandia. Now I am satisfied with this toy. ... Read more

Apex AD2600 Progressive-Scan DVD Player
Average Customer Review: 2.5 out of 5 stars
Electronics
list price: $89.99

Editorial Review

The slim Apex AD-2600 is equipped to serve as a high-end movie source and a flexible music player, delivering premium-quality progressive-scan video images (viewable on high-definition and HD-ready TVs) and decoding the popular MP3 and Windows Media Audio music formats. If you burn pictures from a digital camera to CD-Rs and CD-RWs, you can even use the player for watching slideshows right on a TV. Apex's active full screen function (AFF) helps resize widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) video images to fill 4:3 aspect-ratio sets.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the AD-2600 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. In any case, standard composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

In the audio realm, a set of left/right analog-audio outputs channels audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each optical and coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted....
We had this DVD player for about 3 months and then one day we no longer had picture but could hear that the movie was playing.Customer service was contacted but did not reply.Based on the reviews from other customers it sounds like this is a common problem which is only treatable by the customer paying additional money in shipping and labor....

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after 6 months
Within 6 months of purchase the video on this unit began going screwy. This progressed as time went on until it became unusable. Don't buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Price, But Mine Doesn't Work
The Apex AD2600 DVD Player that I purchased from Amazon has quit working. As far as I can tell it only worked properly once or twice. Now it will only play the audio portion of a DVD, without video. I have tried hooking it to different TV's, using different video cables, and different DVD's. My conclusion: it doesn't work. At least it was relatively "cheap". I won't so much mind throwing it away. THIS WILL BE THE LAST APEX PRODUCT I BUY! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Fresh-faced Nickelodeon starlet Amanda Bynes stars in What a Girl Wants as Daphne, a 17-year-old girl in New York City who's spent her life pining for her absent father, a British lord named Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth) whom her mother (Kelly Preston) met during wilder days in Morocco. Tired of waiting for him to come to her, she decides to head to London where Dashwood is launching his political career--which could be derailed by her fun-loving, free-spirited attitude. Will her father choose the daughter he's never known or a position in Parliament? The plot of What a Girl Wants is ridiculously contrived, but the movie rides on the chemistry between Bynes and Firth. When, under Daphne's influence, Dashwood tries to break out of his stuffy shell and rediscover his inner rebel, the movie really starts to have fun. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Colin Firth--Need I say more?
This is one of my faviorte movies. Amanda Bynes is one of the few teenage type actress that I respect and she is sooo funny in this movie, and the best part is Colin Firth need I say more?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie and DVD, Beware of error in Amazon listing
Among the current crop of female child actresses already or about to turn into hot properties for their impressive talent and major sex symbols for their knock-out looks is Amanda Bynes. Its an impressive class that includes the names Keira Knightley, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff and Kristen Bell. But Bynes is one actress who has already reached television stardom through her shows "The Amanda Show" and "What I Like About You" and at the age of 16 she traveled to Europe to appear in a movie appropriately titled "American Girl."
Before it was released (in early 2003) its title had been changed to "What a Girl Wants" and I sat there in a movie theater knowing little about it. I knew it had been filmed in my home country and starred Colin Firth who had been so good in "Bridget Jones' Diary," I came away impressed by the comic timing and the looks of an actress that would obviously in years-to-come set movie screens on fire.
"What a Girl Wants" is at its heart a story about a girl searching to find herself. Bynes plays Daphne Reynolds and her mother Libby is played by Mrs. John Travolta (Kelly Preston). The two live in New York City and Daphne spends her time helping out at weddings where her mother is a singer and longing to know a father she has never met. It is observing the father-daughter dance at one of these weddings (where the filmakers used real fathers and daughters) that our hearts go out to Daphne and she determines a drastic plan of action - traveling to London and confronting her absent father.
The movie has it all - heart, laughter, suspense, romance. Its culture clash theme has been done before and better (Crocodile Dundee for example) but we have so much emotion invested in Daphne's plight that we cannot help but become engrossed in this movie.
Jonathon Pryce proves that his villainous turn in "Tomorrow Never Dies" was no fluke by pulling out a great performance here as the political advisor of Daphne's father (Firth). Thing is, Firth's character -Henry - is running for political office and Pryce sees Daphne as a liability to his boss' career and her presence an obstacle to his becoming father-in-law to the wealthy and politically powerful Henry.
This DVD has an impressive number of special features, the crown jewels of which are the two scene specific audio commentaries, one by Bynes and the second by the director and two writers.
I Liked how the subtitles automatically come up when commentaries are playing. If you have only seen it once it helps keep track of where you are in movie.
Light, fluffy, exuberant Amanda Bynes chats about working with the other actors, and how intimidated she was by some of the people she worked with. In her commentary she mentions how the weather was when a scene was shot - it was hot, hunid, raining etc
Obviously Bynes has a great deal of respect for Firth and Preston andalmost inevitably Bynes spends a lot of time talking about clothes - big boots when hopping over the wall, commenting on how ugly the dress to a ball is etc. Bynes literally coos over emotional moments.
Hers is a fun commentary, but there are some gaps. I liked the recounting of anecdotal moments such as her account of being mobbed by fans on bridge that crew could not get permission to close for shooting.
On the second commentary director Dennie Gordon joined by the two writers Jenny Bicks and Elizabeth Chandler (the Amazon listing is incorrect in identifying them as actors). As one might expect this is more technical in details and as such serves as a nice contrast to Bynes solo track. The writers discuss such matters as how long they worked on it, the original inspiration and discuss different titles (the original title "American Girl" is mentioned on both tracks). The director talks about how wonderful the actors are and seems particularly pleased with Bynes performance.
Overall this is a very enjoyable family film and a great DVD package.

4-0 out of 5 stars Did anyone else notice how utterly yum oliver james is?????
Good god, if you haven't seen this film and you are a teenage girl (or gay teenage boy), you MUST see it, for one reason and one reason only. OLIVER JAMES. he plays daphne(the lucky cow)s boyfriend in case you hadn't realised, and the first time (of many) i saw this film with my friends, we all practically fell off our chairs when that first scene with him singing came on...he is so HOTHOTHOT!!!!my friends video of it is getting severly worn down...the actual film is nothing overly special, a nice predictable teeny girly romcom which is quite good fun, but if the god that is oliver james wasn't in it, then lets just say it wouldn't be getting as many stars... well anyway, just get lots of your girl(or boy)friends over for a video night and have fun drooling together... ... Editorial Review

The Lizzie McGuire Movie spins around the axis of Disney Channel starlet Hilary Duff, whose glossy good looks and rather mature figure are balanced by a sweetly bashful persona and an endearing klutziness. On a school trip to Rome, Lizzie is discovered to be the virtual twin of an Italian pop star named Isabella--and her dreamy former partner wants Lizzie to take Isabella's place at an award show to avoid a lawsuit. Only Lizzie's loyal best friend Gordo (Adam Lamberg) suspects that Paolo may not be all that he seems. The Lizzie McGuire Movie is competent fluff, but the most fun to be had actually comes from Lizzie's pesky little brother (Jake Thomas) and his Machiavellian friend Melina (Carly Schroeder), who plot to humiliate Lizzie for fun and personal gain. Also featuring Alex Borstein (Mad TV) as Lizzie's tyrannical principal and chaperone. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is What Dreams Are Made Of
The Lizzie McGuire movie is aimed primarily for teen girls, but their mothers will enjoy it too.The effervescent Hilary Duff stars as typical teen Lizzie, who has just made a huge spectacle of herself at her eighth grade graduation.Luckily, Lizzie is off to Rome with her high school principal-to-be (Alex Borstein of Miss Swan/Mad TV fame) and a group of her new classmates, including snobby Kate and her best friend Gordo.

In Rome, Lizzie runs into dreamy Italian Paolo, (Yani Gellman) who is struck by Lizzie's beauty and innocent charm.Paolo wants her to fill in for his singing partner, Isabella (also played by Duff) to whom Lizzie bears a striking resemblance. But Ms. Ungermeyer is a strict chaperone, and anyone caught breaking the rules will be on a plane back home. Will Lizzie choose the daring route or the safe one, and what will the consequences be for her and her friends?

The pop songs in this music are upbeat and inspiring, as are the scenes of Rome.Lots of comedy and good acting with great messages for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars "This is what dreams are made of"
I love this movie. I loved at the end when Hilary sings. good movie.Oh, and Rome has pretty scenery.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yikes.
Wow, I must say that this movie has no redeeming qualities. First off, every actor is in desperate need of acting lessons, or, in lieu of acting lessons, a punch in the throat. Yes, the acting was that bad. The opening montage sets the pace for the rest of the movie, assuming you consider "Hey look, we're in a city, why are my ears assaulted by the screaming of demons?" to be a pace. This movie was horrible, and Disney has disappointed before, but this is one of their absolute worst. ... Read more

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SATISFIED WITH V-TECH PRODUCTS UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS PHONE. IT DID NOT HOLD UP WELL AT ALL. I HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN A YEAR AND IT ALREADY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. KEYS ARE NO LONGER WORKING. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RANGE ALSO

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, phone, some problems.
This phone is good for putting in your bedroom, or im an office. I wouldn't recommend it for going long distances, or as your main house phone, due to the range. The main problem with this phone is that there is no headset plug... making it hard to type or do activitys that require use of your hands while talking on it. Other than that, this is a cool looking great phone for a kids bedroom, or small office, and is call waiting compatble. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A sleek little machine.
I love my neat little red cd player.I've had it for over a year, and it has served me well in that time.It has superb sound quality, insanely long battery life, and it's very sleek. However, I now have to seek a replacement, as a two 1/2 foot trip to the floor seems to have destroyed it; it will play discs, but it will pause and skip every second or so, and it makes hideous noises when it starts to spin the discs. My only complaints about it are:

I hate those wrap around headphones
It wouldn't play most of my burned cds (I only have a few, and most of them refuse to work in this, while my old crappy cd player worked fine with them)
Such a fall should not have ruined it.Durability is a must for portable items such as this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Player
A couple years ago I got this great little player. It worked great! The sound quality is amazing. It runs on 2 AA batteries that take a long time to run out of juice. Why I gave it 3 stars was becuase after a few years, it started to skip.Sometimes you would have a long pause in the middle of a song.I thought this was the CD, but when I but it in another CD player it worked just fine.My other complaint is that it is pretty heavy. It also would have been nice if they put a belt clip on it.Anyways, this is a great portable CD player for just listening while traveling etc. (Just don't use it when playing sports or working out.I almost broke mine from that.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, cheap, no frills cd player
This is an excellent cd player, especially for the price. If you're looking for lots of fancy options, this one won't do but all the basics are here. It has a wide range of options on the volume control. It's relatively skip free (not good enough for exercizing with but fine other than that). The included headphones are decent quality, as long as you like the type that go behind your neck. Extremely long battery life is another plus. Mine has stood up to being dropped on a hardfloor and played with by a baby as well, so it's not flimsy. The only problem I have had was with disks that are dirty it will skip, but a quick cleaning of the disk fixes that problem. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product.
This is a great product and comes in very handy with large cd/dvd collections.I have my video games, dvd's and cd's with booklets all in this case and so far none of them have scratched.

The pages are very easy to take out and they are very easy to put back in, doesn't cause any stress or frustration.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good CD holder
I really enjoy this product. Some people say that it scratches their disks but it hasn't scratched one of mine yet. This CD wallet is good for taking on the road. I take it everywhere I go. This is a very sturdy product. It has very good value. I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a good and low cost CD case for their CD collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite CD/DVD Case
I've gone through a few cases to hold discs but stopped searching when I bought the 128 capacity one about 8 mo. ago.Now I can hold all my DVD's (who uses CD's anymore)...This is the best option you can go for and its relatively cheap on amazon.com.
Pro: Sturdy steel zipper,Strong oustside Nylon Case, CD's do not come out of the pocket, Each sleeve is secure and I feel confident they're not going to rip.
Con: The only thing I don't like about this is how hard it is to insert new sleeves. It's not like a three ring binder where you can insert sleeves where ever you please. If you want to insert one in the back of the book, you have to remove all the other ones.

Anyway, buy this DVD/CD? Wallet.. you won't be disappointed. ... Read more

Editorial Review

While detractors may grouse that Pink's third album doesn't have a dance floor anthem on it like the incendiary "Get The Party Started" from 2001's Missundaztood, some prefer their Pink straight up and damn the paper drink umbrellas and crepe paper. She's at her very best raiding her own troubled autobiography for inspiration, spitting out vituperrious vocal epitaphs like seeds from a ripe watermelon instead of the angst-ridden confessional romp she took through Missundaztood. Maybe she's worked all that out on a psychiatrist's couch, because this time out her anger is much more arch and entertaining; likely due to her pairing with Rancid's Tim Armstrong, who co-wrote and produced most of the disc and certainly knows the value of turning rage into a well-crafted musical punch line. As unlikely as the collaboration looked on paper, it works perfectly because the Pennsylvania native has always brandished a punk sneer beneath the corsets, gaudy hair color, and naughty girl demeanor. Armstrong and his Rancid cohorts (Lars Frederiksen and Matt Freeman) inject feral rock action into the disc with their truncated guitar sounds and trash can drumming and provide a perfect foil for Pink's foul-mouth rants and backstage laments like "Last To Know." But Pink hasn't shaved her spiky coiffure into a Mohawk. She still smolders on a soulful ballad like "Catch Me While I'm Sleeping" or trades vitriol with raps' redoubtable sex kitten, Peaches. --Jaan Uhelszki ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a different opion
yeah, p!nk did this cd differently. it is more like pop. but does that mean it is bad? i think not! she can change her music however she wants. and i think this cd is good. i like it the most probably cuz it is a little more like pop music. i like this cd and can't wait 2 buy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...
... to say the least. Linda Perry is absent from this album... a fatal mistake made by P!nk. The record is not as personal as her last and the rock edge doesn't work for this particular artist. Maybe next time...

5-0 out of 5 stars Varied genius
Having bought her 1st and second albums,i can honestly say that Pink is getting better as she goes on. While the 1st album was mainly RnB,the second pop, this one has a much broader appeal. She's obviously feeling a lot more comfortable with her style of music and is unafraid to try some pretty 60's-70's type tracks akin to Janis Joplin. No wonder then that she's been likened to Janis on a number of occasions. At this rate I see no good reason why Pink won't be around for years to come. If you enjoy one type of music only, you may not find this to your tastes. If you enjoy RnB,Pop,Rock,Soft Metal and Dance, you WILL enjoy this album's varied music styles. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera
Overall this digital camera is great for novice users. The camera is very easy to use because of its well-labeled parts and simple menus. With all of the features and for the price, the pictures and movies are great. The only problems that I have found are that the camera has no flash, there are beeps when turning it on that will not shut off in any menu, and without a memory card it does not hold very many pictures. In the end, this is a great, cheep camera for low level to mid level users.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Digital Camcorder
I have loved this digital camcorder from the first time I used it. For the size it is, it is an awfully good camera. It has many features, like a video recorder, voice recorder, digital still camera, and can be used as a webcam. This product takes very good pictures, if you are in good lighting. If you aren't the pictures may be hard to see. Seeing as there is no flash you have to have light in the background. If you want to be able to take for than 16 pictures at a time I suggest you get a compact flash memory card to hold them on. Also same thing for movies, to take a lone movie you have to have a memory card, there isn't enough memory built into the system to be able to take a long movie. Another thing is the battery runs out fast, if you goes low while you are using the camera your pictures may not be saved. So make sure you watch the amount of power in the batteries before it is to late. I guess you can say you get what you pay for seeing as this is an inexpensive camera. Overall, this camera is great if you have good lighting, a memory card, and long lasting batteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars good buy
Like it---get a set of Ni-Mh batteries and a large memory card and enjoy. Don't leave the screen on always--ALL digitals will eat batteries driving the screen full-time.Does need good lighting. A small modification lets it do GREAT macro (close-ups)--I can fill a frame with an ant!.Took pic of screw threads (10-32 size screw). No, it's not a $300.00 resolution camera, but you didn't pay $300.00 for it either. I keep mine in the car.If it breaks, I will buy another--have really used mine. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Girly photo fun
The things I like about this photo album are numerous. I like the fact that it has a handle, like a real handbag, so I can hang it on a nail in my lounge for people to inspect. I like the fact that both I, a self-confessed girly girl, and my sister, a tough army cadet, find fun in this album. I like that you get stickers to deface your photographs, but that you can peel em off if you really get sick of them. And I like that it's standard size!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sassy Little Handbag Photo Album!
What a fun (simple) idea! It's a little photo album that looks like a purse. So you can take it with you on all your bad girl adventures. (Thanks to the cool handle.) I loved all the stickers at the back! "Nice Face" "Booty Call" "Bad Influences!" etc. I Bad-Girl-ized all my bachelorette party photos. And I'm giving it to my Bad Girl bridesmaids! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ~gingerbread~
Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn is an excellelnt book.
Cyd Charisse 8is a rebellious 16 year old who gets expelled from boarding school and has to move back home. She is just comeing out of a bad realationship with her ex Justin, and meeting new and better friends like Sugar pie from the retirement home, the new love of her life shrimp, and of course her childhood doll Gingerbread. One night she decides to break curfewand hang out with Shrimp, as a result her mom decides to ground her, so Cyd is locked up in her room for the remainder of the summer. Just when Cyd is about to die of boredom her mom tells her about her real dad, Frank and that she is going to go to New York to visit him for a few weeks. Cyd is so excited , she always dreamed of how perfect he would be , but when she gets there she finds out its not at all what she expected.
I would recomend reading this book if you are a misunderstood teenage girl , because you can probably relate to Cyd.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome!
This book was HOT. Seriously hot. The story evolved well, and I personally did not find it predictable, although the reconciliation at the end with her mother was a bit too sappy, and not so real. The content was good, but I was expecting more of a climatic ending.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good story, good characters, but often becomes shallow
I enjoy this book, if only because I hope to god I never, ever end up like Cyd. I think the book is good, but I can't imagine being so juvenile and often fake. But I still think it's a good book. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Inspired by the many readers of Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul(one of many in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series), the authors decided toreach out to young people at that incredibly confusing, exciting chapter oflife, the preteen years. Readers between the ages of 9 and 12 (give or take ayear) sometimes felt that the book for kids was too young, while the edition forteens (Chicken Soup for theTeenage Soul) was too old. In this warm, supportive anthology of truestories by and about preteens, the very issues that seem so complicated andinsurmountable are addressed with intelligence and openness. Divorce, violence, death, friendships, school, family, attitudes, changes, dreams... preteens havea lot to offer and a lot to learn on these subjects. Many of the brief essays, cartoons, quotations, and introductions are witty as well as wise and touching;readers might devour the book from start to finish, drop in for a story here andthere, or focus on a concern that is most important at the moment. The preteenyears seem to be the perfect time to reach kids, before they are lost in teenangst and coolness. And who better to learn from than their own peers? For someadded incentive to read, celebrities such as Mia Hamm, Karl Malone, and 'N Synchave contributed essays as well. (Ages 9 to 13) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
When I read this book I really found a connection, because many things that happened in this book relates to my life story as well. There was a section about death and 2 years before I read this book my grandmother had died from diabetes. It was a struggle in my life, but when I read that section about death it was like that story was my story. There were sections on divorce, peer pressure, and loads of stories of teenagers who survived all this stuff. It was amazing because at the time I felt like I was the only one going through all that stuff. Some of the stories even made me cry. It really took a grudge off of my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars An AMAZING book for growing pre teens! A must read!
I have this book, and it is absolutly INCREDIBLE. The stories touched my heart and made me want to cry..It made me even sader to think these stories came from pre teens, just like me. I love this book because i can relate to it alot. This is an AMAZING book full of true, happy and some heart breaking stories from pre teens...If someone is 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13, this is a MUST read for them...It is nice to know that we are not alone in this world, that there is other kids going through the same things...I loved it alot..A must read!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup
I really enjoyed this book. It was a couple years younger then me, but it was still a really good book. I think this helps kids learn from the problems of other kids and cope with what their going through. Please, read this book and understand that your not the only kid going through something bad in your life. Hopefully, it will help you, like it did for me. ... Read more

Editorial Review

They were just a soft, ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans until the fourgirls took turns trying them on--four girls, that is, who are close friends, about to be parted for the summer, with very different sizes and builds, not tomention backgrounds and personalities. Yet the pants settle on each girl's hipsperfectly, making her look sexy and long-legged and feel confident as a teenagercan feel. "These are magical Pants!" they realize, and so they make a pact toshare them equally, to mail them back and forth over the summer from whereverthey are. Beautiful, distant Lena is going to Greece to be with hergrandparents; strong, athletic Bridget is off to soccer camp in Baja,California; hot-tempered Carmen plans to have her divorced father all to herselfin South Carolina; and Tibby the rebel will be left at home to slave for minimumwage at Wallman's.

Over the summer the Pants come to represent the support of the sisterhood, butthey also lead each girl into bruising and ultimately healing confrontationswith love and courage, dying and forgiveness. Lena finds her identity in Greeceand the courage not to reject love; Bridget gets in over her head with an oldercamp coach; Carmen finds her father ensconced with a new fiancée andfamily; and Tibby unwillingly takes on a filmmaking apprentice who is dying ofleukemia. Each girl's story is distinct and engrossing, told in a brightlycontemporary style. Like the Pants, the reader bounces back and forth among thefour unfolding adventures, and the melange is spiced with letters and wittyquotes. Ann Brashares has here created four captivating characters andseamlessly interwoven their stories for a young adult novel that is fresh andabsorbing. (Ages 12 and older) --Patty Campbell ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, is for ages 12 and up. Carmen, Tibby, Lena, and Bridget are best friends that discover a pair of magical pants. These wondrous pants fit each one of their very different body types. The summer brings new and difficult challenges, with all four girls splitting up for the first time. This is the summer about finding their identities in terms of who they are, and who they want to be. Carmen struggles with accepting the fact that her father is getting remarried and has adopted a new family. Tibby home alone for the summer makes a new friend with a 12 year old girl who has leukemia. Lena is flying to Greece to see her grandparents, and discovers a new love, and Bridget is at soccer camp meeting the man of her dreams. But through each issue, every girl is sure of the love and support of one another. The pants guide them through all their crises and troubles, feeling that the magical pants have a part of each girl in them. The sisterhood bond is so strong that no matter where they are in the world they will always be there for each other no matter what. ( Rule #10: "Remember: Pants = love. Love your pals. Love yourself. ")

This book is the heart warming story that will keep you turning page after page after page. They learn much about love, life, and their identity. The sisterly bond between four girls teaches you trust and understanding. This is a book that the reader would not want to end, wanting more volumes to come. It is a funny, loving, and memorable book.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Magic Pants"
Best friends Carmen, Lena, Tibby, and Bridget are about to embark on their first summer separated from eachother, ever, in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Each girl is about to discover their independence during a summer that brings them new and exciting challenges that will keep you hooked till the end.Through every big event, they had the magic pants. Carmen bought "the Pants" at a resale shop a few days before summer began. "The Pants" some how fit four very differently shaped girls, and gave them the confidence and courage to take on anything. The girls vowed to share the pants over summer and to document everything that made an impact on their life. Bridget is going to a soccer camp in Baja, California, and she struggles with the idea that things might not always go as she wants when the assistant coach she wants to be with, continuously rejects her.Lena goes to Greece to visit her Grandma and Bapi; she also meets a "very nice boy" as her grandma puts it, which she tries to hide her true feelings from.Carmen is really excited about spending the summer with her father, but her excitement is brought to a screeching halt when she learns her father is now equipped with a fience` and two new kids. Finally, there's Tibby, poor poor Tibby, while all her friends are off having their summer adventures, she's stuck at home starting her new job; surprizingly she befriends a younger, sick girlnamed Bailey who makes a big impact on her.

The context of this book is geared twards ages 13 and up.The book is a major page turner that you won't want to put down. You find a connection with these four girls, and will almost feel like your part of their lives.Every girl will find something to relate to in this book, full of lessons about life, independence, and most importantly friendship.

MY SISTER (LAUREN) SUBSCRIBES AND I PAGED THROUGH (DON'T TELL HER) AND I LIKED IT! I'D LIKE TO GET IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Teeny Peeps
This is a great magazine, vice versa to all those other customer reviews. It's just a fun-filled, style/gossip magazine. Along with styles and what's 'in' for the season and what's 'out'. If you are the type of person who hates gossip, fashion-talk, boy-talk and such, I don't suggest it. But if you do, then heck with it! Grab one and start reading. They have full-color pictures or stars--Star Tracks, SCENE--where celebrities talk, what's happening, most embarrasing moments, quizzes, love-talk, sneek-peeks, what's new and what's old, new movies, awsome books and movies to watch, and advice for girls just like us.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
i subscribed to this magazine thinking it was like its "parent" People , which i love to read.
however, this is just awful. its all about sex, guys, and expensive clothing. i flip through in 5-10 min. and im done. nothing real here at all. they publish bits about "I stole my best friends guy!". its stupid to read and glorifies being mean to others. STUPID.
unless your a preppy, shallow, rich girl, dont even think about this magazine. worst $12 i ever spent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
If you have absolutely no knowledge of makeup, consider purchasing this book.If you haven't been living on a deserted island all your life, don't bother. This is the first item that I have returned to Amazon. You don't need a book to tell you the same stuff that you can pick up from magazines or everyday life. You can give it a try, but don't say I didn't warn you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Get it at the library - don't spend your money
This book took me all of 30 minutes to read. I can't believe that the list price is $17, because it's not worth it. Just borrow it from the library, like I did. I will admit that the book has some good photographs to give you ideas for makeup looks, but that's about all it has to offer. The tips aren't anything special, and will probably only be helpful to somebody who has never worn makeup before. And on just about every other page, the author is gushing about a certain color of product, saying, "This works great with all skin tones." I'm sorry, but not every color looks great on every skin tone. The author also seems slightly biased toward warm makeup tones, rather than cool. There are several references to "warming up" someone's coloring, and many of the makeup looks lean heavily toward peach and gold tones. There was also a ridiculous section on glitter in makeup where they tell you to mix actual glitter in with your regular eyeshadow. Are they kidding? This is a good way to get glitter in your eyeball. Why not just buy an eyeshadow that's already sparkly? There's no shortage of those.

4-0 out of 5 stars I agree with the assessment that it is for beginners...
...because I am one! I have never been that interested in makeup but realize there will come a time when I may need to know how to apply it. I don't really buy the fashion and makeup magazines either, so a book that clearly writes *and* illustrates how to apply makeup is exactly what I need.

Other beauty books which are probably intended for the more experienced have written descriptions of the application process or only a picture or two of the finished product; but not this book. Spiral bound, the pages fold out and show the step by step process. As noted in the other review, it is fairly up to date as well, discussing shimmer and other relatively more recent makeup styles.

For those who are curious to actually SEE the book itself, it can be usually found on display at The Body Shop for people to flip through. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A few good styles buried under pages of useless information
Learning how to care for and style your hair seems to take a back seat to a distracting, absurd, and irrelevant storyline of four fictional girlfriends.I did manage to find a few hairstyles that I liked, making it more or less worth the $13.57.I'm all for trying a new look, but this book is innundated with downright ridiculous hairstyles. The photos are not labeled with what style it is, so it is frustrating to try and match styling instructions with the look you would like to achieve. The layout is visually overstimulating and chaotic, making it difficult to find simple answers to styling questions.

4-0 out of 5 stars step by step?
This book is great if you know what you are doing but if you are a beginner it may not help so much. This book has really good advice and hair style ideas but not any step by step pictures. In other words if you can read it and understand what they are trying to tell you, you will do great. If you need to see what they are doing your out of luck. The only think I did not like is the story in book since it doesn't do anything for this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific overall book about hairstyling
This book covers in section by section style each aspect of making and having beautiful hair.I'm an amateur (home grown) stylist and I wanted a book that covered the basics and beyond and it certainly does.I also just cut 16" off my hair and wanted to know how to keep the "just from the salon" look, this book helped so much! Easy to read and follow tips and instructions.Great descriptions. Would make a great gift for a teenager or anyone interested in gaining professional hair care knowledge.(The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because it has this odd story line about these make believe women along the way, which do not add anything to the book except pages.) ...
