Sony D-SJ301 S2 Sports CD Walkman
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $119.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The snazzy DSJ301 CD Walkman boasts Sony's exciting S2 Sports design, ergonomic joystick operation, and great sound. Ultimate Skip-Free G-Protection technology and a three-way control key on the grip together permit use while jogging or participating in other activities, while a supplied hand strap makes it easier to carry. Though it's not designed for immersion, the Walkman does offer a water-resistant design with rubber gaskets, bushings, and water-resistant seals that help keep out water, moisture, and dirt.

Sony's Ultimate Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks--up to 10 times faster than conventional systems. The player delivers 50 hours of playback on two AA batteries (not included) bolstered by Sony's two-position automatic volume limiter system (AVLS), which conserves batteries and guards your hearing by capping your listening level. This player supports optional Sony Nickel Cadmium NC-WMAA rechargeable batteries or optional Nickel Metal Hydride NH-WM2AA rechargeable batteries, offering great savings and convenience over replaceable batteries. Other features include nine playback modes (among them shuffle play, repeat play, and 64-track program play) and audio CD-R/CD-RW playback. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Safe from water, 3 feet falls, but not sand
A good tip is not to bring this to the beach or any place with sand. The sand did not completely break the cd player, but makes a static sound. It is good if you take care of it, not like I did, and it has a lot of extra buttons, PGM for example puts the songs in the order you want, it is quite helpful at times. The double bass is not too significant. The hand holder is very useful, and their design helps to make it easy to move around. Very good cd player

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the best CD player ever purchased
I am notoriously clumsy and am known to break electronics extremely quickly. Before purchasing this CD player I had gone through five CD players within the space of a year (of various brands...i think i had two panasonics, one classic, one other kind of sony, and one aiwa). I decided to splurge a little for this discman and was not disappointed. I have had this for almost two years now, drop it almost daily (often from considerable height onto tile floors or concrete), often store it at the bottom of my heavily loaded backpack and it is still in perfect working order. I think that the sound functions are starting to go, as i now have to purchase new headphones every two weeks, but I think I will buy the exact same discman again to replace it, because it is by far the best CD player I have ever had.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Cd Player ROCKS
I swear to god this cd player never skips.I bought a very cheap cd player from someone and all it did was skip, you could throw this cd player against the wall and it would not skip, and better yet the batteries last a super long time with my old cd player I had to change batteries ever two days. ... Gateway 400 Series Notebook (2.20 GHz Celeron, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive)
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Personal Computers (01 November, 2003)

    Editorial Review

It wasn’t so very long ago that a sub-$1000 notebook was an underpowered, outmoded notebook. But with its new 400 Series, Gateway has brought speed and versatility to the entry-level mobile world. Though it shouldn’t be counted upon to drive ultra-demanding 3-D graphics or manage a flock of complex business applications, the Gateway 400 Series is certainly enough for most typical personal, light business and entertainment tasks. And at this price, that’s really saying something.

Gateway has turned to Intel for the unit’s CPU, a top-of-the-line Celeron 2.2 GHz. By no means a Pentium, a Celeron with this sort of clock speed is nevertheless a solid workhorse. At 256 MB, the system’s memory allotment is fair, and its 32 MB ATI Radeon Mobility video card is superior to the video chipset in many pricier rigs.

Surprisingly, the affordable 400 Series features a comparatively large 40 GB hard disk. This is more than enough room for an average mobile complement of programs and files. The unit does not offer DVD recording, but it does provide a DVD/CD-RW drive through which you can listen to and burn audio CDs, archive files and watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

At 13.2 by 10.8 by 1.7 inches and 7.53 pounds, the 400 Series is of average size. Flip open the top and you’ll find a spacious 15-inch active-matrix display capable of 1024x768 resolution, a full size keyboard with touch pad controller, and stereo speakers with emulated 3-D sound.

Connectivity options include two traditional USB 1.1 ports for linking to external devices such as scanners and optical drives, a high-speed FireWire port (commonly used for data transfer to and from digital camcorders), and a 6-in-1 card reader for interpreting memory and media cards from high-tech devices such as digital cameras and PDAs. For communication, you can use either the built-in low-speed 56K dial-up modem or the 10-/100-Mbps Ethernet Network card. The system does not feature wireless capabilities.

Your Gateway 400 Series will ship with a pre-installed copy of Microsoft Works Suite 2003. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Laptop for basic computer needs
As a matter of fact, I'm using this laptop right now!!It works very good...no complaints here BUT-- this model is obsolete (I bought it off a friend) so getting parts and service is a hassle. A favor to any of you who have one...if u can't find battery packs or accessories for this laptop in Amazon...go to www.mundocorp.com <--they have everything for this laptop. It gets 4 stars due to the fact that it was a hassle for me to get a battery to begin with. Not even Gateway has it!! ... Read more

    JVC HR-XVC20U Hi-Fi DVD-VCR Combo (Black)
Average Customer Review: 2.5 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $199.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Set yourself up to enjoy just about any current media format with JVC's versatile HR-XVC20U combination DVD player and VCR. With MP3/WMA and JPEG image CD playback and hi-fi VHS performance, the unit is built to satisfy all music and home-theater needs. The HR-XVC20U plays DVD and multiple CD formats.

It's easy to enjoy cutting-edge DVDs alongside an existing library of videocassettes. The unit even offers an RF output for use with older TVs that lack composite-video inputs. With S-VHS quasi playback, you'll be able to watch (in regular VHS resolution) tapes recorded in Super-VHS, normally only compatible with more expensive S-VHS machines.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channels audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a multi-brand remote control that operates the combo player and most televisions. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to disgusted customers
Although some models of a certain product may have numerous defects, I'm happy to say that my JVC VCR/DVD combo has had no problems. I have recorded numerous times with the VCR section (with the picture still looking the same as the first day), I played all my DVDs (they haven't frozen), and have copied a DVD to a VHS. If you don't already have it, get it!! Please.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed - Not a good buy
After about six months, had the same problems as other buyers - DVD player freezes. Sometimes restarts, sometimes doesn't. Emailed their customer service, but only got a line that my warrenty was up. There must be some systemic problem with how JVC is putting these together - I can't believe they don't know this. In either case, I have given up on using it as a DVD player and I'm in the market for a new one. Of course, I will never again be purchasing anything JVC.

1-0 out of 5 stars I will never buy a JVC product again.
Is the worse buy in my life. The DVD does not work and to get a new one is cheaper than repair. JVC Colombia unable to fix it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware
I had a really bad experience with this jumpdrive. My original stick gave up on me in just 4 months. It just stopped working. The replacement died from a power surge within one week. Unfortunately, Lexar doesn't replace damaged jumpdrive so I have to by a new one. From my personal experience, I highly recommend against this flash drive. You may be more lucky, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Crashed On Me
Had it for 4 months and it was working fine. Always safely removed it. but after 4 months it stopped being recognized as Lexar Jumpdrive and when i tried to access it it said Drive not formatted. When i formatted it, it stuck halfway and said. unable to format drive. Maybe i got a bad stick {it happens sometimes} but then i checked it out and alot of people had the same problem. Bought a Kingston DataTraveller and Sandisk Cruzer Mini, had them for over 8 months and they're working perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the greatest thing if you're a college student
i am currently attending a distance-learning program for my undergraduate degree and this jump drive is the handiest thing i have ever come across.i have to transport several semesters worth of work and instead of having to cart around several disks or CD's, i have 4 semesters worth of papers etc. on one jump drive! it's all in one place for me when i travel - especially handy since i no longer own a laptop computer. Also handy for when you DO have a laptop or something with mot quite enough memory on it, you can have one of these and save everything that you don't need on your hard drive to the jump drive. This product is much better than floppies or CD's.. more durable, too.

of course, now that i bought this one last year and now they have 1 GB ones for the same price... oh well, that's just the way it is :) ... Read more
