5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Package
This machine really flys! The 2.53GHz P4 processor combined with 512MB of DDR memory really make this machine scream even with the most demanding video games. The GeForce 4 MX420 graphics card delivers fast, crisp images even during online gaming where I have experienced most of my problems with video jumping on other machines. The sound is crisp and clear and the bundled speakers are really nice. I really like the DVD Burner feature that let's me make movies on DVD that play on my home DVD player. The built-in 6-in-1 memory card reader is a really nice touch and takes both of the memory cards I use with my MP3 player and my digital camera. This makes loading MP3s and downloading images from my camera to my PC a snap. This alone made the machine upgrade worth the money spent. No complaints here... at all!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great speakers but thats it
Warning do not think that you can capture and share any video with this unit.I purchased this unit thinking I could take my home movies from vhs to dvd Wrong! You will be unable to share any captured video on this unit with any other PC or DVD player due to copyright protection. With that functionality gone the unit is massively overpriced.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good machine, but it will cost you. . .
The media center PC is quite a cool concept. . . The new windows version is pretty cool too!I do like the computer; but I do not like the fact that there are no open PCI slots. With all the components in the box, there is no real room to expand, only to replace.

The Audigy sound card is exceptional. It is capable of supporting Dolby 5.1 surround sound. The nVidia GeForce MX 420 graphics is not the best, but it isn't bad.I still wish they would start packing them with the TI GeForce cards, they are considerably better. The onboard memory reader is a plus. The only problem is that it only has four of the five current flash-style card slots. It supports Sony Memory Stick, Smart Media, Compact Flash, and Secure Digital. It does not support the new XD memory type used in many Olympus digital cameras.

The unit comes with great speakers. The processor speed is good, P4 2.53 GHz. 512 MB of DDR RAM is a must for today's demanding applications and games. The DVD recorder is cool. The audio/video equipment is awesome. The fact that you can capture television is great.

The HP f70 flat panel monitor is a great compliment to this machine. It is expensive, but a quality piece. This machine as a whole is great. If you are not a fan of assembling your own computer, you will not find a machine with more already on-board capabilities. . .

HP Pavilion ze4560us Notebook PC (1.87-GHz Athlon XP-M 2500+, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive)
    by Hewlett Packard
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Personal Computers

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

HP has designed its Pavilion ze4560us Notebook PC for users who require satisfactory performance and wireless connectivity at a seriously budget-conscious price point. It may not break any speed records or smoothly display cutting-edge 3-D games, but the Pavilion ze4560us should suffice quite nicely for most typical mobile business and leisure applications.

At 12.96 by 10.72 by 1.62 inches and 7.25 pounds, the unit is of average size. Inside, HP has installed a mid-level yet cost-effective 1.87 GHz AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ processor with battery-conserving PowerNow Technology, a generous 512 MB of DDR SDRAM memory (expandable to 1024 MB), and an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset with 64 MB of shared (not dedicated) memory.

The system features an adequate 40 GB hard disk for file and program storage and a convenient DVD/CD-RW combo drive for listening to and burning music CDs, archiving data and playing the latest movies. DVD writing is not offered in this stock configuration. The system's crisp 15-inch XGA TFT display supports images of 1024x768 resolution, and its 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio chipset and integrated Altec Lansing-designed speakers deliver accurate, full-bodied sound.

Controlling the Pavilion ze4560us is a snap. The unit features a full-size 88-key keyboard with Touch Pad dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad. Other amenities include two traditional USB 1.1 ports for plug and play peripherals (high-speed USB 2.0 ports are not included), an IEEE 1394 FireWire port for fast interaction with external devices such as digital camcorders, and an S-Video TV-out. Communication facilities are very solid, ranging from an integrated 802.11b wireless LAN interface to an RJ-45 Ethernet connection and 56K modem.

Bundled software includes Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Corel Productivity Pack including WordPerfect 10 and Quattro Pro 10, Quicken New User Edition, and a bevy of media and Internet-based utilities. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good specs, bad Design
This notebook has great specs and features but the packaged shell is cheap and poorly designed. The keypad is not as smooth as Dell or Toshiba. One has to apply more force per keystroke that reminds me of old manual typewriters. The result is A LOT more typos - some keystrokes register, some don't.

This goes for all keys, touchpad, and switches.
The choices and placement of characters on keypad could be better. The placement of the non-alphabet keys are not intuitive. These Home, Page Up, Page Down, End, delete, Pause, Print Screen keys seem crammed into the upper right hand corner, very closely packed next to each other such that accidental mis-strikes are also common.
The screen is big, but that means loss of resolution. The XGA screen on my other notebook is smaller, but sharper than this HP Pavilion's XGA screen.
The wireless G card on this notebook seems to be weak because it keeps dropping connections. The wireless B on my other notebook seems to perform better - connections do not drop.
Finally, despite the width of the notebook, ports most often used are crammed next to each other. The power adapter plug is VERY snug against the USB ports. And for some strange reason, the USB ports are horizontally stacked so this makes for a tightly fitted trio of wires.
While the HP Pavilion has some desirable internal qualities, it's physical qualities are irksome.I would not recommend this notebook because it's poor design will always be a source of irritation. If I didn't own another notebook as a comparison, I'd never know the difference, but being the owner of a Toshiba and past user of Dell I have to say that HP's can use some improvement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful & economical notebook
This computer works terrific even with demanding applications like the music production tools I use. Altough it is not designed for that kind of work, the processor works pretty good and has enough RAM for almost any application.

I am happy with my purchase, no problems at all: silent, powerful & fast (not the best PC of course), not heavy, well made, clean screen, nice touchpad and keyboard, great connectivity (WiFi, VGA, Ethernet, USB, FireWire, you name it!) and super value. Bad points: a weird noise sometimes when reads CD's, and the speakers... well as a music professional I wasn't expecting much anyway from those tiny things; I use a PCMCIA pro audio card instead and works terrific.

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate
I purchased this computer in November of 2003 from Amazon.com.I am not particularly hard on my computers.Since I've bought this computer, I've been extremely busy, and haven't had the free time to do much more than check my email. As a resuly, the computer has essentially been sitting on a desk since I've gotten it.

This Saturday, I had to send it in for a repair. The screen completely died.I've only had this computer for five months, and it isn't as though I've been hauling it around, abusing it, or even using it a whole lot. While I'm not saying this is a bad computer--after all, I've only tried this one--I feel obligated to post this problem. The computer has to be sent out to Texas; I'm in Illinois.I'm going to be without a computer for over a month.I like this computer--I really do.Aside from this, it's been a great little notebook. This incident, however, doesn't bode well for its reliability. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect - Great Value - No Brainer!
I bought this printer, set it up for home use, and then immediately bought 3 more for light office use!

The footprint is extremely compact; it is quite light, and is not big and ugly sitting on your desk. The printing speed through USB 2.0 is extremely fast - I have not experienced any jamming or paper loading issues. Unpacking and set-up is effortless.

I have had an HP 2200 for heavier office use for about 3 years. For the price I paid for that, you can buy 5 of these - and the print speed is only 4 pages PM slower.

This printer is perfect for general home use, and moderate small business office use. Great for college students. Unless you regularly print documents longer than 25 pages, this is an absolutely excellent buy. If you do print longer documents you should be aware that the printer will slow down production after between 30-50 pages, due to the lack of a cooling fan.

Otherwise, you will not regret purchasing this. Oh.. one last note... make sure you have a spare USB cable!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast, decent quality
I use this printer with an eMac running OS X 10.3 and primarily use it to print simple documents such as word processing files, web pages and e-mails.For that purpose it is great:very fast and high-quality output. However, if you work in graphic design you will find its lack of PostScript support disappointing.PDFs and print outs from InDesign are beautiful and very sharp; they just take a long time to render since the printer is "dumb" and the print driver has to draw everything.

But, unlike other low-cost laser printers, I have never had a problem with paper misfeeds or the printer loading multiple pages at a time.Like other reviewers have mentioned, this printer is not suitable for sharing and printing high volumes at a business. But it is great for home use.I've had it in my office for nearly a year and am still using the original toner cartridge.Try that with an ink jet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stop looking, buy this printer NOW!
This printer is half the size of my last one, it's very quiet, very fast, and prints are excellent. No bells and whistles, just quality prints, just like I wanted! Does NOT include USB cable, so you have to buy one! Had to install the driver software twice before I got my PC to detect and install it properly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps Laptop Safe
I bought this a few weeks after I got my laptop because I wanted to have something to carry it around in when I needed it and somewhere I knew it would be safe.

I like having to space for all of my computer's needs (power cords, extra phone line). There is even room for folders when I'm studying or DVDs when I'm bored out of my mind.

I don't have to 'hunt' for everything when I need my computer, either. It is all right there in a handy case that can go with me anywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Roomy and Nice Looking
As a student this was the best case for me.It can fit my 15" notebook snugly, with a second large compartment for textbooks and notebooks. The front flap is for cords, floppy disks, pens, calculators, etc.It is also not bad to look at. I was very impressed when it came in the mail.I had been worried my notebook would be too large because I had experienced that before, but I would recommend this for up to 16" notebooks. The ajustable bungee strap is really comfy too.The case itself is also really light on your shoulder, but still durable.Me likes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Verrrry Nice
I got this in the mail today and I am very pleased.I thought it might be too small for my notebook (which has a 15" screen) like so many other cases were, but it fits very nicely with room to spare.I also like all the compartments. Its great for a student like myself with room for ID, cell phone, books, pens, etc.It it also very light and not too bad to look at.Great choice. ... We ordered this for a spare fridge and it would be a great size, but the first on came and it was damaged. It looked like it had been dropped. Then I called Target. They did great taking care of getting us another on. Only the second came today and it was also dropped from a truck. The back was dented and it was already rusting. so I think we will try some where else for this item.

2-0 out of 5 stars Different Model - Same Problem
I have a model MW1060SA Samsung microwave that my son gave me for Christmas two years ago.About 6 months ago, the door started sticking and was very difficult to open. Then, we noticed that the paint under the plate had started bubblibng and peeling, exposing bare metal.I thought at first that something had spilled but when I looked closer, the paint was peeling and there is rust on the bottom of the microwave.I came to this site to see if others had this problem and after reading the reviews, I unplugged my microwave and will toss it tomorrow.I have always used Sharp microwaves in the past and will probably get another one this time.

3-0 out of 5 stars It starts on its own.
I have had the thing for almost 2 years.I have liked it and had no problems whatsoever. Then last night it started on its own... three times! It was kind of unnerving.I was sleeping (2 am) when I heard 2 beeps and the thing start.I initially thought I was making it up, but then my wife said "Is that the microwave?!"Being the good husband I went and turned it off and thinking little of it and went back to bed. Then it did it again.I have no kids, no pets, and thankfully there was no intruder turning on our microwave just to freak us out. When it happened the third time I decided to unplug it and call it a night.Today I wanted to see if it was just power surges last night or if it really was the microwave. It did it again for a forth time and I am calling it the microwave.Too bad I kind of liked the thing. It is kind of cool for freaking out my wife though.

    Happy Halloween!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not safe....automatically starts itself...
Not the exact model (MW945WB) but very similar.I've had the same problems mentioned by others here.My unit automatically starts a 2 or 3 minute cycle all by itself at random times.I learned this while pulling all night study sessions.I would be working away and hear beeps coming from the kitchen and the microwave would start running. With nothing in it!By the time I'd make it to the kitchen to shut it off, it would already smell slightly smokey. Now I have to keep it unplugged except when I'm running it for piece of mind. This seems like a big saftey hazard.I'm waiting for Samsung to recall these, but I'll probably throw it in the trash before then and just buy a different brand. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best Marker.
It seems pointless or even funny to review something as common as a 12 pack of Sharpies. The fact of the matter is it's worth reviewing. These are high quality permanent markers. Without a doubt Sharpie is the trusted name in permanent writing utensils. During my entire life I have been calling black permanent markers as Sharpies, a testament to its popularity. The reason Sharpie is so good is that it is completely safe, and highly permanent and very reliable. For anyone worried about ingestion, or eye contact, or even any other safety situation with a Sharpie, should rest assured. Under all normal circumstances Sharpie is very safe, in fact if you want more information it can be easily accessed from their MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) readily available on their website. Although I myself have been using Sharpies to identify my own clothes, Sanford (the company that produces Sharpies) highly recommends not using it on clothes as it can run or bleed in the wash, and also after time it may leave a yellow halo around the marking. Although Sharpie claims that it will "remain permanent under most chemical washes, and extreme heat and steam (up to 500 degrees F)" it is possible to remove it form clothes. They claim that stain remover can work, but to use extreme caution. A detailed summery of how to clean a stained garment can be found on their website FAQ. Sharpie is the highest quality permanent marker I have ever used, it is used frequently in my workplace, and is always reliable. I suggest it to everyone; it is also made in the U.S.A., which presents a trusted quality. A very good permanent marker, 5 out of 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for clothes
I use this marker on my socks.I write an "S" on the bottom of each sock to make sure that no one else attempts to claim them.Wash after wash, the letter is still there.

I also use it to write in my school books.I'm in college and books are very expensive.I write my name in all of my books, as well as on my notebooks and disks.

I have accidentally gotten this on my hand more than once.I just wash my hands with soap and water. It may take 2 or 3 hand washings to get it off.

These markers are also great for posters because the line is thick enough for poster board. ... Read more

I bought this set for my backpack. It has all of the colors (the description says turquoise, but mine came with 2 yellows). I have used other highlighters, that have cost more, in the past and was pretty disappointed with how long they lasted.

I didn't expect these to last very long because they were cheaper that my old highlighters. Much to my suprise, they have made it through the semester and I will being using the same set again next semester. This has saved me money because in previous semesters, I have to buy at least 2 sets of the Bic highlighters just to name it through the semester.

    Editorial Review

There are many inexpensive scientific calculators on the market, but few boast the two-line display and other advanced features users get with the TI-30x IIS. The display shows the equation you are creating on the top line, and the numbers or symbols you are currently entering on the second line. Once the equation is solved, the results are displayed on the second line, and you can use the four arrow keys on the front of the calculator to edit the original equation in any way you like for a recalculation. Better still, pressing the up arrow repeatedly lets you browse through a cache of dozens of previous calculations, meaning you can look back to see the answer to a problem you solved two minutes ago, two days ago, or whenever.

The device uses solar power when possible but can fall back on the internal batteries (which are included) if there isn't enough light. The buttons wiggle around a little too much and require a firm keystroke to register input, but the fact that input can be followed by looking at the output on the first line helps to cut down on mistakes. There is a shift key that doubles the functions of most buttons, and although the TI-30X IIS isn't festooned with as many buttons or functions as some other calculators we've tested in this price range, it's still very capable. There are three angle modes (degrees, radians, and grads), scientific and engineering notation modes, and even one- or two-variable statistical modes. Five variables can also be assigned to their own memory slots. The documentation is lacking, as everything is presented on a single folded sheet of paper, but Texas Instruments did manage to pack several illustrated examples on the page. The calculator comes with a snap-on cover that fits on the back of the device whenyou are using it. The calculator carries a one-year limited warranty. --T.Byrl Baker

    4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2Durable and Inexpensive!
    Main Points:
I used this calculator for over 10 years before it finally stopped working, and I treated it fairly roughly (e.g.,coffe spills).I think others here have attested to the functionality of the TI-30, so I just want to emphasize that it's a tough little gadget as well. Yes, the buttons are on the small side and there is a bit of play, but this was never a major problem (although at times it slows down data entry). You can go to http://education.ti.com/downloads for a good overview of TI calculators, and you can scope out one of TI's major competitors at http://www.casio.com.

    A Little History:
This was also one of the first commercially available low-priced calculators that had two-line display and backspace to correct or edit data entry. The dual-power and scrolling display features were also once unusual. The top line (for data entry) shows up to 11 characters; you can scroll backwards or forwards up to 88! The bottom line (shows results) displays up to a 10-digit answer along with a 2-digit exponent.

    Individual Needs Differ:
From the reviews here, it appears that high school math is now more difficult than it once was.If you know that you're going to need graphing capability, then obviously this is not the choice for you.Similarly, the prevalence of laptop computers and math/stats software may obviate the need for some of the more advanced features.

    Recommendation:
The layout is very good and, for such a low price, it packs a lot of calculating might. However, high school (or college)students may want to narrow their choices and then ask their teacher which one has the most relevant functions for the next few years of math. Compared to twenty-five or so years ago, one can now get a lot more calculator for the money. Depending on your budget, therefore, you might determine that a calculator like this is sufficient for your short-term needs, but that you'll need a new one if you go on to more advanced stats and math.In any event, this is a durable calculator that works very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked great
I didn't take math my senior year of high school and didn't know where my calculator was when I started college.I bought this one because it was cheap, compared to the TI 83 that I wanted.I used it for 2 years before it was damaged (my fault, not a product defect).

I bought a cheap calculator to replace it and have been very disappointed. I plan on getting another calculator like these before my statistics class next semester.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Middle School
This is a rather basic calculator that is great for middle schoolers in pre-algebra and algebra courses for parts of the year. This works well for middle school purposes, but will probably need to be replaced with a graphing calculator midway through algebra and definitely for geometry. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

For students in math and sciences, or for anyone new to graphing calculators, Texas Instruments has created the TI-83 Plus--a powerful, problem-solving tool with features for storing, graphing, and analyzing up to 10 functions. Plus, it displays graphs and evaluates tables on a split screen, allowing you to trace the graph and scroll through table values simultaneously.

The clear, readable display exhibits 12 characters and eight lines, in 64 x 96 pixels on an LCD screen. The TI-83 Plus has a pragmatic key layout and an easy-to-use graphing interface, with a simple programming language for creating conversion programs. The TI-83 Plus stores and analyzes up to 10 matrices combined with data storage in lists containing up to 999 elements per list. You can also solve equations interactively for different variables.

With the TI-83 Plus, you can view an equation, its graph, and the coordinates all at one time. Jump from point to point by entering a number. Several useful plot types are available, including scatter, box-and-whisker, XY-line, histogram, and normal probability plots. Advanced statistics and regression analysis, graphical analysis, and data analysis are readily accessed, along with features for calculus, engineering, financial, logarithm, trigonometry, and hyperbolic functions--all crucial tools for advanced analysis.

With its clear display and fast processing, the TI-83 Plus incorporates graphing tools for mathematics and science course work, including statistics and finance. Incredibly useful for college boards--PSAT/NMSQT, SAT I, SAT II, Math, IC, and IIC--the TI-83 is essential equipment for advanced placement courses in chemistry, physics, and calculus.

The addition of the optional TI-Graph Link (software and cable) allows you to connect the calculator to your computer, permitting the transfer of files and data between machines. The TI-83 is powered by four AAA alkaline batteries and one lithium battery for backup, with an automatic shutoff to save energy. It also comes with a hard slide cover and is supported by a one-year limited warranty. --Barbara Price

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good product
This calculator is probobly the best one that i have owned. You can create graphs with it, you can do equations, you can even do complex algebra/trigonometry/calculus on this calculator. Also, for the kids, there are games that you can download quite simply of the internet for you to play in case by any chance you get bored during math class. (Don't get any bright ideas!) I know this product is very expensive, but it is well worth it once you realize how good this product actually is. Do yourself a favor, and buy this product!

5-0 out of 5 stars great calculator
I found this to be a useful calculator in high school. It definitely helped me see a lot of functions and perform experiments.

5-0 out of 5 stars The gold standard for calculators
I purchased my TI-83 Plus in 1999 and still have it today. I have never had any problems with it and can only remember changing the batteries 3 or 4 times. I've even dropped it from my 2nd story balcony by accident (more like a friend knocked it off a table on the balcony) and it didn't break. When I turned it on after it fell, my calculations were still on the screen!

It is easy to use and fast enough for all high school and college mathematics.

I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a workhorse of a calculator. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Far exceeded my expectations for $20.00.
Bought it for the kids since they were always stealing my expensive Sony, well eventually I lost the Sony, and in a moment of despiration grabed the kids, after scraping all of the gooey kid stuff, and replcing the batteries, I ran out the door to go to my meeting. Upon arriving at the meeting I turned on the recorder and to my surprise it worked flawlessly, I think the sound qualty is actually better, and it is definetly durable, upon returning home I bought a new one of these for myself, and have been very happy with it ever sense, the kids still use the old one and it has been a few months now, I just got interviewed with it last week, and it is still ticking.

For the price, this microrecorder does the job.I purchased this one to replace aforty dollar Panasonic one. This one works just as well if not better than the more expensive one.The only thing that I don't like about this one is that it is made out of cheap feeling plastic.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that just tosses these into the briefcase. ...
