CD Cyclone 256 MB Flash Key USB Pen Drive Storage Device by CD Cyclone Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $154.00 -- our price: $42.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (2)
Performance: Plugging this drive into the USB port of my computer, the drive was instantly recognized and installed.Within "MY COMPUTER" it was listed as a removable drive for ME, 2000 and XP.I have not tried any other OS. There is no special formatting necessary to get the drive to work with Windows operating systems. These drives behave as any other hard drive. Files can be written and deleted with simple drag and drop actions.Copying enough files to fill the entire 256MB of this drive took about 5 minutes, as expected. Quality and Fit:These drives are small enough to put into your pocket, and easy to misplace as well. All manufactures offer some way secure the device to a tether and wear around the neck or on a key chain.Unfortunately, the case these devices come in are often flimsy and will likely wear out and break eventually, exposing the ram and board inside to the elements. Additionally, The cap that protects the USB connector will likely be lost within a couple of weeks.Again, this exposes the device to the elements and limits the mobility characteristics. This drive is small enough to fit into a USB interface without an additional cable extension, though one is provided. It is a tight fit when there is another USB device next to it though. Other issues:Because not all computers have Windows ME and up installed on them, you will need to take the driver CD with you when you take your "ram drive" out to remote locations. It is sometimes inconvienent to plug the ram drive into USB Ports on the back of a computer.A front USB port on a computer is a welcome site. Because the drive uses the USB 1.1 interface, the read and write speed is limited.Other drives use the USB 2.0 standard and can read and write data much faster.Above 256 Megs this becomes relevant. Other drives have the ability to change out multiple ram cards to make the USB drive truly flexible. Those drives tend to be twice the size however. Pros and Cons: Pros: -Does everything it should do, and fills an important void in computer storage Cons: -Small size makes it easy to lose Asin: B00007IFK2 |

Panasonic DVD-LA95 9" Portable DVD Player by Panasonic Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $699.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Panasonic's DVD-LA95 offers the versatility of a portable DVD player alongside the performance of a sophisticated home-theater component--and you can use it as both. The player handles DVD-Video, high-resolution DVD-Audio, and DVD-RAM playback--as well as standard and recordable CDs, including MP3-encoded discs. Its slender chassis holds a massive, 9-inch widescreen (16:9) LCD screen and a built-in rechargeable battery (good for about 2.5 hours between charges). Designed to take full advantage of both audio and traditional video DVD formats, the DVD-LA95 delivers the immersive six-channel surround sound of the DVD-Audio music format. DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound, in both multichannel and stereo. Because the DVD-Audio signal is too high-resolution for the digital converters in current surround receivers (and also as an anti-piracy measure), the DVD-LA95 performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate this feature. Audio features include DTS and Dolby Digital decoding with 5.1-channel analog- and digital-audio outputs, built-in stereo speakers, and Dialogue Enhancer for DVD movie viewing (which boosts the center-channel level by 6 dB during playback of Dolby Digital 5.1 discs, since most of the principal dialogue is channeled there). Advanced Surround Sound (VSS) simulates surround effects from any two speakers or from headphones. Other features include chapter preview, high-speed smooth-motion scan in forward and reverse (up to 100 times normal speed), repeat mode, title/chapter search with marker function, skip forward/reverse, auto power off, and resume play. In addition to playing favorite DVD movie and music discs, the DVD-LA95 also plays video recorded on DVD-RAMs. DVD-RAM lets you record high-quality MPEG-2 video on DVDs, offering fast data transmission, speedy random access to chapters, and rewritability up to 100,000 times. ... Linksys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter by Linksys Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $79.99 -- our price: $49.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Early Adopters Pick, January 2003. The first high-speed wireless networking PC card for laptops to use the 802.11g standard, which is four times faster than the current standard (802.11b) and backwards compatible. The new Wireless-G notebook adapter (PC Card adapter) from Linksys has both the 802.11b and newer 802.11g standards built in, so you can connect your notebook to existing 802.11b infrastructure and also the new, fast Wireless-G networks. The included setup wizard walks you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step. Then just slide the adapter into your notebook's PC Card slot and enjoy network access with your notebook computer, while retaining true mobility. Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products that are found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices also work with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment. Once you're connected, you can keep in touch with your e-mail, access the Internet, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network, wherever you wander. At home, you can surf the Web or use instant messaging to chat with friends while sitting out on the patio. You'll also be able to connect to any of the growing number of public wireless hotspots springing up in coffee shops, airport lounges, hotels, and convention centers. And as those hotspots upgrade to the new high-speed Wireless-G standard, you'll be ready to take advantage of the increased speeds. Get connected to current standard 802.11b networks today, and be prepared for the future with the Wireless-G notebook adapter from Linksys.

Samsung DVD-V3500 Progressive-Scan DVD/VCR Combo by SAMSUNG Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $179.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Samsung's titanium-finished DVD-V3500 DVD/VCR combo is perfect for favorite movies and music, featuring VHS recording and playback, high-end component-video DVD outputs, built-in MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) decoding, and compatibility with JPEG image CDs and Kodak Picture CDs, which makes it easy enjoy a slideshow of digital pictures right on a television. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-V3500 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The VCR delivers hi-fi stereo sound and quasi-S-VHS (QSPB) playback, which lets you view S-VHS cassettes--normally only playable on high-end S-VHS machines--in standard VHS resolution. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs (for DVD only) help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Another handy feature is EZ-View letterbox eliminator, which makes it possible to watch full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when you're watching widescreen DVDs. Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a remote control. ... Read more Features Reviews (83)

Panasonic SC-HT700 CD/DVD Home Theatre Sys by Panasonic Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $349.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Early Adopters Pick: April 2003. This home theater system includes the world's slimmest 5-Disc DVD changer, as well as a six-speaker system. The SC-HT700 handles the audio end of a home theater, giving you surround sound decoding, amplification, and playback through a specially matched six-speaker system (left, center, right, left and right surround, and low-frequency subwoofer). The five-disc carousel system's DVD-Audio playback makes it adept at music as well as movies, offering super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. DVD-Audio discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. DVD movies will look and sound great through the system's 54 MHz/10-bit video decoder, video depth enhancer, progressive-scan video output (for use with high-definition and HD-ready televisions), and Dolby Digital and DTS discrete 5.1-channel surround decoding and rendering. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The speaker set includes four satellite speakers (front and rear left and right) powered by 45 watts each, a 90-watt center-channel speaker (critical for handling most of a movie's dialogue), and a powerful, 170-watt subwoofer specially designed for unobtrusive placement. Garmin eTrex GPS with Waterproof Exterior (Yellow) by Garmin Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $139.99 -- our price: $89.29 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review A few years ago, when personal GPSs first became available, every geek from here to Poughkeepsie was enthralled about the possibility of always knowing exactly where on the planet they were. While the Garmin eTrex isn't the most feature-rich GPS out there, it will definitely come in handy if you don't want your next camping trip to end up like a scene from The Blair Witch Project. The eTrex is sort of a dumbed-down, rugged version of the company's more advanced eMap. Designed specifically for hiking, biking, and camping, the eTrex is one of the easiest-to-use GPS units available. It offers the ability to track up to 12 satellites so you never lose contact with one. The eTrex won't work inside--however, we don't anticipate that you'll get lost inside a building very often. Among the eTrex's notable features is its ability to calculate your current and average speed. We used the eTrex to determine the distance from work to home, and calculate how fast we were walking. This helped us gauge the average time it should take to get to work. This feature should really come in handy on extended hiking, camping, or cycling trips where planning your average speed and tracking the distance traveled is critical.
The eTrex can hold up to 500 user-created waypoints. And using Garmin's TracBack feature, it's easy to plot a course with up to 10 waypoints and follow it in both directions. --Julian Strate Pros:

DVD Remote Controller Kit by Sony Computer Entertainment Average Customer Review: CD-ROM list price: $19.99 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Admit it: all in all, the PS2 is a pretty good video game console, butit's a mediocre DVD player. Easily the most major sin Sony committed againstDVDphiles was the initial unavailability of an official remote control. Becausethe PS2 gamepad is a stunningly poor substitute for a real remote, Sony'sofficial remote control entry comes as a welcome, but not quite perfect, solution. Compared to most third-party PS2 remotes, Sony's design is much less childish. It's quite comfy, and, aside from a few extra buttons modeled after the PS2controller (X, O, R1, R2, etc.), it features the same style as most of Sony'sslick AV remotes. Tragically, Sony omitted both eject and power buttons. Whatwere they thinking? The supplied new software drivers add quite a bit of functionality to the PS2,making it almost as feature-packed as a regular low-end DVD player. Three-speedscan, slow motion, A-B play, shuffle, chapter program, and other enhancementshave now been added to the PS2's playback capabilities. Most of these featuresrequire the remote to access. Also, to use the drivers, you'll need to keep a PS2 memory card (where the new software is stored) and the IR receiverconstantly plugged into a gamepad port--a minor headache. Also, while most ofthe problems with untimely frame skipping are solved, I still found the chapterrewind to be somewhat slow and unresponsive. DVD fiends who can bear Sony's tiny control buttons will find this model easilythe most functional of the PS2 remotes. While the PS2 will never replace afull-fledged DVD box, at least it now has a decent remote control that's on par withthe big boys. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Garmin StreetPilot 2610 In-Car GPS Receiver with 128 MB CompactFlash Card by Garmin Average Customer Review: Electronics (15 September, 2003) list price: $1,299.99 -- our price: $619.94 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Newly simplified for automotive applications, Garmin's portable StreetPilot 2610 features both a touchscreen and an alphanumeric remote control so you'll always have easy access to automatic route calculations, helpful turn-by-turn directions, and guiding voice prompts. The 2610 offers a color display, built-in maps, and everything you need to download additional map detail. It offers more precise location finding because of its WAAS technology, a feature the original StreetPilot and the StreetPilot III lacked.
The unit's built-in routable basemap covers North and South America and contains a wealth of practical and nuanced data, including state and country boundaries, lakes, rivers, streams, airports, cities, towns, coastlines, state and interstate highways, local thoroughfares, secondary roads within metro areas, and interstate exit information for services such as gas, food, and lodging. The 2610 accepts downloadable map detail from Garmin's PC-based MapSource City Navigator CD-ROM (included), which provides street-level detail, addresses, and listings of nearby restaurants, hotels, ATMs, and other attractions. (This feature requires a CompactFlash card, and a 128 MB CF card is included; you must first downloaded MapSource data in order to find points of interest and addresses.)
Garmin makes accessories to help you integrate your GPS unit with your life and your priorities. Keep it at the ready while protecting it from knocks and bumps with a carrying case that has space for your hookup cable and remote control. In the car, you'll appreciate the mounting options and clear reception afforded by the magnetic/suction-mount antenna that'll give you a better signal than if you just place your unit on the dash. Using your system in more than one vehicle? Garmin's dashmount is just the ticket, providing one temporary and one permanent adhesive mounting disc so you can move the unit between your cars.
