Apple 10 GB iPod (M8976LL/A, April 2003 Version) by Apple Computer Average Customer Review: Electronics (02 May, 2003) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (218)
The bad as compared to the mini-disc player is that the iPod doesn't have an LCD display remote control. So with so many songs, it's hard to blindly navigate if your iPod is stashed away. Hopefully Apple will create such a remote. Otherwise, it wins over the mini-disc player hands down! The new mini-discs hold 5 hours of music. 2 years ago that was a big deal. My 20 Gig iPod has 17 hours of music already and I am using merely 390 MB. That's less than a fraction of its capacity. The iPod's looking at me like, "When are you gonna REALLY add some music?" The 3 lines of music data display the song title, artist, and even album! And the sound...oh boy. I feel like I'm at a concert! Excellent sound! You can also tweak the sound with the equalizer. Once they make that LCD remote to make navigating easier, it'll be perfect. ... Read more Asin: B00009J5VX |

RIM 957 Blackberry Internet Edition Wireless Handheld by Research in Motion Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $499.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Research in Motion's BlackBerry wireless handheld has been one of themost talked-about handhelds on the market recently--and the press coverage itreceived due to it being the communication gadgets of choice for Al Gore'spresidential campaign certainly didn't hurt. But thanks to its full-functionorganizer, synchronization with many popular desktop PIMs (personal informationmanagers), thumb-operated QWERTY keyboard, and, of course, wireless e-mail, theRIM 957 BlackBerry is more than just hype. You won't receive instant wireless gratification right out of the box--you'llneed to juice up the internal rechargeable battery via the docking cradle (ACadapter included). Also, the activation process requires you to first registeronline and wait three to five business days for a confirmation e-mail. The biggest challenges we faced, thanks to years of Palm usage, were thekeyboard and the trackwheel controller. There's no need for a stylus with theRIM 957--all text input is performed using the minikeyboard. At first we wereall thumbs, but we got the hang of it after a day's usage and could type away--evenhitting the ALT keys (which cover numbers and symbols)--like a pro. And forlonger e-mail messages, the RIM 957 is certainly easier and quicker than writingGraffiti characters with the Palm stylus. And instead of tapping screen icons to access functions or scroll through ascreen (the RIM 957's screen is not touch sensitive), you use the trackwheel onthe right side of the device. Just roll to a desired item and press it in toselect it; this is also how you access menu items when in a list, such as theaddress book. To return to the previous screen (or get out of the menu), simplypress the Escape key below the trackwheel. We easily synchronized the device with our Outlook contacts, to-do lists, andcalendar. The RIM 957's desktop software includes Intellisync, which cansynchronize the device with Microsoft Outlook and Schedule+, GroupWise, LotusOrganizer and Notes, Symantec ACT!, Goldmine, and Netscape. Once out on the road, e-mailing was a breeze--we maximized our time by sendingmessages back to our office from New York taxis and while waiting for a delayedflight. With the device on, e-mail was received automatically, and we werenotified with a simple tone. You can also set the device to vibrate, which ishelpful when the RIM 957 is stored in the included belt-clip case. The RIM 957 does have some shortcomings. There's no Web browsing, and you won'tbe able to use applications developed for the Palm OS, the predominant handheldplatform. Also, you will have to work with your company's system administratoror your ISP to receive messages from your company or other e-mail account. Finally, if you are in a rural area, you might not get any connection, as themonthly wireless service (provided through Aether Systems) is primarily focusedon larger metropolitan areas. That said, if you're a modern-day road warrior who needs to be connected to e-mailat all times, the RIM 957 offers all the tools of a personal organizerwithout the hassle of having to jack into a modem or cell phone to get online.--Agen Schmitz Pros:

The only reason I held back and gave it 4 stars instead of five is because it eats so many batteries I might have to get a second job soon just to keep it supplied.I have to replace the battery every 2 days or so, that seems to be an awful lot. But the other functions more than make up for the battery-eating capacity!Don't let that deter you (plus you can always use the docking cradle and use A/C power when you're not on the go (not really often enough in my life for the docking cradle to be very useful though!) ... RIM 950 Blackberry Internet Edition Wireless Handheld by Research in Motion Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $399.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The RIM 950 Blackberry Internet Edition Wireless Handheld offers a complete wireless e-mail solution for the mobile professional. Compose e-mail messages using the built-in keyboard, then send and receive e-mail via the embedded wireless modem. Integrate e-mail sent from the RIM handheld device with your primary desktop e-mail account. The RIM 950 also comes with a full-featured organizer, allowing you to keep track of your contacts, schedule, and to-do lists. You can then synchronize this data using the included docking cradle with such desktop PIMs as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Organizer and Notes, Symantec ACT!, and GroupWise. To check coverage in your area, check the Aether Systems Web site: www.myaetherbb.com/start.asp. About the size of a pager, the RIM 950's screen has a sharp LCD screen with six to eight lines of viewable text. The main menu features intuitive icons and menus that are accessed with a thumb-operated trackwheel. The device has 4 MB of flash memory (plus 512 KB SRAM) and operates on a 32-bit Intel386 processor. It runs on a single AA battery. The RIM 950 Blackberry comes with a docking cradle, a belt-clip case, Blackberry Desktop Manager software, and a Blackberry installation and user's guide. Important note to customers: The RIM 950 Blackberry Wireless Handheld requires a $39.95 monthly wireless service through Aether Systems. An activation guide with details is included in the box. Should you have questions or need assistance regarding service details, contact Aether System by email at moreinfo@myaetherbb.com or by phone at 866-815-2701. ... Read more Features Reviews (51)

Razor Magazine by Razor Magazine % Marilyn Light Average Customer Review: Magazine list price: $49.90 -- our price: $12.00 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (45)
I have read some reviews stating that Razor is not Maxim or FHM.That's true, it's not.And thank god for that.In my opinion, once you read Maxim once, there's no need to buy another issue. It's the same thing month after month. Razor is simply a more sophisticated, more informative, more balanced view at the lifestyle of the average, mature guy. The July issue, for example, hits that balance perfectly. There's the guide to Las Vegas, which covers where to stay, where to eat, the best pools for scenery and the recipes for feature cocktails at various hotels. There is a scathing, yet hysterical look at PETA by Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller fame which follows in the same vein of an earlier terrific expose on the Church of Scientology.Jillette's article is a pleasure to read. There's a look by Stephen Applebaum on Hollywood's marketing of violence to children and how Hollywood may have learned nothing from the Columbine High School shootings.Again, a terrific read that is not at all obtuse (See GQ).One more feature is for all the people who love those HBO autopsy shows, a nice piece that takes you into the lab.Again, well written and informative. On a more fun note (balance), there is a look at six of the top convertibles on the market today. And this is where Razor shines as the choices range from reasonable for any working man, to luxurious for those who are fortunate enough to be able to purchase such a vehicle. The sex advice article is about where to find opportnities to meet the fairer sex; it is funny and enjoyable without being lewd. Two fashion features consist of summer wear for day and night.Again, the fashions are reasonable and realistic for any working man. Finally, there are the girls - (they are part of a man's lifestyle too right?) - but Razor presents them in a completely different light than the Maxim's of this world.Beautifully filmed and without that fake airbrushed look, Talisa Soto shines. There is another beach shoot (fashion) that is just perfect. Throw in advice on style, travel, wines, finance and more and you can see why it's my opinion that Razor is the most balanced men's magazine out there. It's a magazine that I am proud to have around when company stops by.Even my girlfriend is a big fan. For the record, I am 28 and an entrepreneur.

Cigar Aficionado by M Shanken Communications Inc Average Customer Review: Magazine list price: $29.70 -- our price: $19.95 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Unlike most of its counterparts in the men's magazine ranks, Cigar Aficionado targets a classier, more cultivated man, the guy who'd rather smoke a Montecristo and savor the indulgence of a cherry-red '65 Mustang convertible than read about what Hollywood stars have to say while they eat lunch. It's the mature man's Esquire, a magazine that's more interested in yachts, rum, and golf than it is in this season's new fashions. As the name suggests, at the heart of the magazine is the cigar, with articles investigating everything from California smoking laws to Cuban politics. It's true that you don't have to smoke cigars to enjoy Cigar Aficionado, but Cigar Aficionado is a magazine that will try its very hardest to get you to enjoy cigars. --Jon Groebner ... GQ by Conde Nast Publications Inc. Average Customer Review: Magazine list price: $37.00 -- our price: $15.00 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The "GQ look" is synonymous with classic cool and sophistication, and despite a recent outburst of trendy magazines (think Maxim and FHM) vying for the attention of young professional males, the steeped-in-tradition monthly GQ carries on without missing a beat. Yes, there's more décolletage gracing the cover than there used to be, but GQ continues to supply enough cultural commentary, celebrity profiles, features, and style guides to keep the modern man in touch with what's going on in the world from month to month. GQ's ideal reader is probably one who actually might be able to afford any of the high-end suits, shoes, and watches featured among the countless ads packed between the covers. Though the average reader might enjoy scanning a fashion spread about steakhouses entitled "How to Dress for a Porterhouse" and reading articles like "50 Ways to Blow Your Bonus," it's unlikely that such folly holds much practical advice. Literary editor Walter Kirn keeps short fiction on display, and Alan Richman's writing on food and dining out is always entertaining, even when he comes across as borderline cranky. Two regular Q&A features, "The Style Guy" and "Dr. Sooth," run the gamut from when it's appropriate to wear a straw hat to problems in the bedroom. Features Reviews (21)
That said, the magazine is rife with flaws.Snobbish east-coast writing, awful music that is lauded for no reason other than its anonymity, still worse book reviews of Norman Mailer-style authors, shrill articles by naive hacks, and so on. The clothes are great, but buy with caution. ... Read more Asin: B00005N7QI |
