Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router by Linksys Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $99.99 -- our price: $59.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Early Adopters Pick: January 2003. The first high-speed wireless networking router to use the 802.11g standard, which is four times faster than the current standard (802.11b) and backwards compatible. The Linksys Wireless-G broadband router is really three devices in one box. First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility. With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, andmultiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need! Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment. Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. For more information on the differences between an access point and a router with access point, see the following table:

Nintendo Gamecube Console - Limited Edition Platinum by Nintendo Average Customer Review: Video Game list price: $149.99 -- our price: $99.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Though it looks like a toy, don't be fooled: the Nintendo GameCube is a powerful video game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems. In fact, its playful, appealing design and small size (the unit is a not-quite-cubed 6 inches) aren't the only features that set it apart from the others. For starters, Nintendo has quite clearly made this a game-only machine. It doesn't try to play your CD collection, run your movies, read your e-mail, or store your MP3 files. The company has concentrated its efforts on games. All the prelaunch titles we've seen play smoothly, with bright, fast graphics and great sound. Nintendo says its engineers have removed traditional bottlenecks that have, in the past, slowed down processing. New components designed by IBM and MoSys, as well as a large-capacity secondary memory cache, keep instructions moving through the system's microprocessor (MPU) at peak levels. In English: the GameCube is optimized to push speed up while pushing costs down; hence its position at the lower end of the price spectrum. The GameCube is the first Nintendo video game system to use a disc-based medium rather than cartridges for its games. Moving the software to disc media generally means lower development costs for the publishers, which, in turn, trickles down to the consumer not only in price, but also in availability and quality, as it's then easier to try out untested game ideas (Pikmin, anyone?). While most other systems likewise have their games stored on discs, the GameCube's 3-inch format is smaller than everyone else's, and is so designed to fit in a shirt pocket as much as to deter would-be software pirates. Of course, the main advantage of the GameCube is that it's the home field of one of the world's premier game designers: Nintendo. While powerhouses Electronic Arts and Sega make games for all systems (including this one), you can play Nintendo games only on a Nintendo system. And Nintendo, you might recall, has been hitting them out of the park since it started with Donkey Kong. In fact, here's a roll call of characters and series you won't find on the other consoles: Mario, Legend of Zelda, Perfect Dark, Metroid, Kirby, and, of course, Pokémon. A few names that the GameCube will share with the other guys: Madden, Tony Hawk, Sonic, Batman, and Star Wars. The system also comes with four built-in controller ports, so you can easily plug in extra controllers and let friends join in for the multiplayer games--it's even got a built-in handle so you can easily move it to a friend's house. It comes with two memory card slots for saving your progress through games, and there's the capacity for future expansion into the world of online gaming. In short, the GameCube isn't an all-in-one entertainment system, and neither is it the most powerful of the modern video game consoles. But for video game enthusiasts who want to stick with their favorite characters, its value cannot be beat. --Porter B. Hall Unit Specifications

Memorex MVD4540 DVD-VCR Dual-Deck Player by Memorex Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $249.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (2)
1.) 1-46 Key Full Function Remote Control.
First off, it's obvious this product is for those of us who either can't part with our VHS collections or just must record television programs for whatever reason. The disk is definately the way of the future and once the DVD recorders get reasonable it's bye-bye clunky videocassetes. I must say I'm happy with the unit I bought. This unit will play DVDs, MP3s, audio CDs, and VHS.I've played several DVD disks with no problems. The picture quality is great and the VHS has played flawlessly as well. There are many MANY ports in the back for just about anything you could want to hook up to it.A connection to an amplifier or other sound component is pretty straightforward and can be configured with a multitude of ways.It even has inputs in the front to give you access for ANOTHER component such as a gaming system. The biggest drawback I found was that you cannot record DVDs onto the VHS deck.Although I'm sure all of the commercial DVDs are protected anyway. Also, it is bulky: about the size of an 80s era VCR. All in all it's a spacesaver with a decent value for your money.I'll just have to see how long it lasts without problems. ... Read more Asin: B000068U2C |

JBL SCS150 6-Piece Home Theater Speaker System Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $549.00 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Get the most from a DVD player and audio/video receiver with this full-range surround-sound speaker system from JBL. The four satellite speakers (left/right front and surround) and center-channel speaker fill a room with sound, while the 150-watt powered subwoofer rounds out the bottom end, delivering the floor-shaking bass supplied by a program's low-frequency-effects channel (the ".1" in a 5.1-channel presentation). All speakers are video shielded to allow distortion-free placement on or around a television, and the satellite speakers may be mounted on stands, shelves, or the wall. JBL recommends powering the satellites with 10 to 100 watts per channel--that's enough to enjoy exciting home-theater sound (but those seeking bigger thrills will want larger amplifiers and heavier-duty speakers). Each satellite (and the center channel) houses two 3-inch drivers and half-inch titanium-laminate dome tweeters, and the ported subwoofer uses a large, 10-inch woofer for bass reaching down to around 30 Hz. Philips 15PF9925 15" LCD Flat-Panel TV by Philips Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $799.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Delivering the ultimate in performance and slim design, the Philips 15PF9925 LCD television can be used in any room of the house. This flat TV offers a 15-inch high-resolution monitor with high brightness and high contrast. The integrated TV tuner, sound system, and Arch tabletop stand complete the picture. Liquid crystal display televisions work by trapping a liquid crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current is passed through the liquid crystals, they align so light cannot pass through. Each crystal then either blocks or allows light to pass through it based on the broadcast information. For clear, crisp color that rivals traditional CRT (cathode-ray tube) displays, a thin film transistor, known as a TFT is employed. LCD allows screens to be thinner, and televisions lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but also fits in places conventional televisions cannot. ... Read more Features Reviews (1)
Like most HDTV's these days the remote is loaded with buttons your will never use. I plan to get a simple one to turn it on and off and to adjust the volume. This set is perfect for a small space and has good visibility up to about 10 ft. After that the screen is small. I can recommmend this as a great starter set for someone who wants to try the technology but not spend a great deal of money, or someone who wants a great set for a small space. ... Garmin Talking StreetPilot III GPS Deluxe Package by Garmin Average Customer Review: Electronics (22 July, 2002) list price: $799.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review You don't need to buy a luxury car or spend thousands installing a multipart system to get advanced GPS navigation capabilities in your automobile. Garmin's StreetPilot III delivers all the high-end features you need--from detailed street maps and sophisticated auto routing to voice prompts and a color screen--in a compact, inexpensive, and portable package.
The physical installation went just as smoothly. We affixed the plastic base to the top of our dashboard with the included adhesive mounting disks, snapped the StreetPilot III into place, connected it to the cigarette lighter for power, and extended the small fold-down antenna. The dashboard mount's quick release makes it easy to store the StreetPilot III when not in use or, if you purchase a second mount, lets you use it in multiple vehicles. We turned the unit on and in less than a minute it locked onto the GPS satellites and displayed a map of our current location on the clear, bright, easy-to-read color display. As we drove along, it displayed our position and direction on the map, the name and address number of the street we were on, and even the name of the upcoming cross street. The two zoom buttons let us get a very detailed street-level view or a broad overview of our current position, and the menu button allowed us to customize the display.
Even if you don't know exactly where you're going, the City Navigator maps include points of interest, such as restaurants, shops, and parks. For instance, the StreetPilot can find the closest fast-food restaurant and present you with a list of nearby options. Testing in San Francisco, we did lose satellite lock a few times in extremely hilly areas or in areas with very tall buildings. We think this was due mainly to the fact that the unit's antenna is inside the car; an external antenna option is available for less than $100 that should solve the problem. Once you use the StreetPilot III for a while, it's hard to imagine driving solo again. Whether you're planning a road trip or just need help getting around town, it's an extremely helpful companion that's cheaper and easier to install than anything else currently available. --Ken Feinstein Pros:
