1-0 out of 5 stars It sucks!
I don't understand why guys here rate this unit 5 stars.
I ordered one. The one I got definitely sucks. Poor built. There are many marks and scratches in the unit. Seems not to be a true Swiss Army or maybe it's a refurbished one. I returned it and amazon charged me the shipping fee!
    Anyone has the same problem?

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary.
This is extraordinary. The pocket knife yes, but also the fact that I am writing a review in praise of it. I'm a thought guy not a thing guy; I review books, typically philosophical ones. But this is a thing fit for a philosopher if ever there was one.

Circumstances have conspired to make me spend some time contemplating my Swiss Army Knife. I recently lost mine. It was a dark day. I've had this knife in my pocket for something like 25 years and use it daily. Yes, a person might get along fine without this knife, but why would they? Here's a quick, although partial, inventory: The saw comes in handy for landscaping and plumbing work (cuts PVC and ABS pipe better than a hack saw does) and for gardening (pruning limbs up to 1.75 inch diameter or more). Two knives, two screw drivers, an awl/punch/drill, a can opener, bottle opener, even a toothpick. The scissors are excellent for personal grooming (trimming finger nails and nose hairs). The steel is highest quality and holds sharp edges for years, even under constant use.
There's simply nothing like it: compact, intensely functional, inexpensive, dependable high quality. It'll be your inanimate buddy; you'll use it at home, at work, in the glorious wilderness, should you be fortunate enough to find yourself there. If you want to endear yourself to some philosopher (or perhaps even an ignorant numbskull), or maybe a guy with a nose hair problem, here's the perfect gift.
Other people probably make a 'similar' product but don't waste your money on a knock-off, wannabe or Johnny-come-lately; this knife is a legend for every good reason. The only potential drawback cannot be blamed on the knife itself -- if you've forgotten it's in your pocket you will have it rudely confiscated before you can board a commercial airliner, this we must blame on a world sadly deficient in good philosophy.
It's a beautiful thing. I found mine a few days after I lost it. My nails are clipped and life is good.

5-0 out of 5 stars All I can say is, everyone should have one....
Whether you're a guy or a gal, you'll find yourself using it over and over again. These things NEVER wear out. A must-have for everyone's pocket or purse - it's your "micro toolbox." Keep one in the car too - it just might help save your life someday. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Again Amazon fools us with the WRONG picture
[...]I say "added" because the sheath here is not the sheath pictured above. The sheath you are purchasing here is lighter brown and much more flimsy. [...]
I purchased this product specifically because I have the sheath you will receive and was disappointed with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured
As another review stated, the sheath I received is not the same style as the one I received.I have one of sheaths in the style pictured and it just looks better that the ones they are sending now.Maybe that's why they used a picture of the older style in the ad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the same as it used to be...
Leatherman has apparently changed the design of the deluxe Wave sheath recently. The older ones are as pictured in the Amazon pic above, with nice quality, finished leather and the word "WAVE" horizontally across the flap.

The new ones are much cheaper feeling, and appear to be oil tanned instead of finished top grain. They simply have "Leatherman" diagonally across the front. Not as nice a sheath on any level.Still, they're a good 25% narrower than the nylon version, and Amazon has them priced right. ... Read more

    Reviews (3)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent fixed blade knife
This knife is thicker and has a soft rubber grip on it. Not to mention that the thicker knife feels much better in my hand. Changing blades is relatively easy and effecient.I would also reccomend purchasing a bucket boss utility knife sheath for carrying it.It has a plastic liner and easily holds the larger knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent product
The comparable retractable-blade model has the same excellent ergonomics and while the quick swivel-change is slightly slower than the stanley 10-788 instand-change model (because you turn the center dial rather than just push a button), it is about half as heavy, which helps when you already have a lot of tools in your bags. The best improvement on utility knives I've seen on the market.

4-0 out of 5 stars innovative design
The best thing about this utility knife is its feel in your
hand. The "FatMax" style makes for a much more comfortable
knife to hold than your standard utility knife, which in
situations of heavy use (cutting tar shingles, carpet, etc.)
can give you serious hand cramps (the standard one can, not
this one). The other nice thing about this knife is also
what makes it less practical than other utility knives: its
fixed blade. The fixed blade means that the razor won't
suddenly disappear inside the handle when you're applying
serious pressure, the way it does with standard utility knives.
But the fixed blade also makes it hard to put in a tool belt
(and dangerous too!).Stanley has done an admirable job of
dealing with this problem by making it pretty easy to remove
the blade and store it in the handle (you don't need a screw
driver to do this, unlike with [say it with me now] standard
utility knives). All in all, a good knife to have in the tool
box for certain situations, but probably not the one you'll
want with you all the time... unless you don't mind lots of
    accidental cuts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Streamlight Litebox: Now you're ready for that power outage
Make sure you have one of these in your hurricane or earthquake preparedness kit!

I would consider the Litebox as a "lantern" and not a flashlight. My definition of a lantern is that they are usually larger and can't fit into your pocket.

Although it's fairly large and heavy (due to the battery), you can't go wrong with this bad boy! Supposedly used by many fire departments, I can see why they use them: Heavy duty plastic casing, comfort handle, thin penetrating beam (although you can buy different lamp modules so you can have a broader beam), long run time. The head can also swivel up and down, so it can be a good work light.

Would I buy it again? Possibly. The limiting factor is the price. But this is from a quality manufacturer and is a quality product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unrivaled
This is a GREAT product for the price.AND HERE'S A TIP.I followed Lodge's seasoning instructions to the letter, and in fact, did it three times.I was hoping to speed up the seasoning process. What I got was a medium brown, but still a (food) sticky surface.Quite by accident, I put it over the stove, turned both burners up to med-high (med-high+?) and moved the griddle around over the burners every 10 minutes or so.After about 1 1/2 hours I had a blackened seasoned surface that matched the Lodge preseasoned grill press that I also bought! Not quite as non-stick, but a few uses have fixed that! I'm not sure that Lodge would approve, and there will be some smoke, but it seems to work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent investment that will last forever
I have had this grill for almost a year and remain very happy with it.I primarily purchased it for the grill side but the other side is very handy as well - for example for large amounts of pancakes.

Cast iron isn't no maintanence -especially at the beginning - but after time it will be a piece that is non-stick forever if you maintain its finish. It's essentally non-destructable and will be around forever if cared for.Use, seasoning and care directions come with the griddle.

I have cooked quite alot of things on the griddle and I find it best for things that arent going to let off an excessive amount of grease. There is a rim that runs along the bottom to catch the grease but I find it shallow for cooking things such as bacon. That said I have cooked many other kinds of meat successfully...

It fits over 2 of my burners easily on a standard sized stove.I have learned to turn the gas burners on first - before putting the griddle on.If I dont they light and sometimes the flame comes up over the side- only for a second but safety first.I can also set one burner lower than the other...one end to cook on and one end more of a *keep warm* side.I like that very much.

My only caution would be that you really do need to either keep a window open or have a nice strong exhaust fan.Mine isnt all that strong and I find without opening a window this produces more smoke that my fan can handle. But this is grilling and a grill pan would produce the same issue.

This is an item that will last forever and assuming you are willing to care for it, especially at first, in the correct manner you will love it.Considering that more and more information on non-stick coatings suggest they arent a healthy choice, cast iron is becomming more and more desirable.**of note- non-stick coatings can kill birds and if you have pet birds they are a distinct health risk.**

If you have the space to store this and are able to handle the weight of moving this to wash and put away this is an excellent and healthful life time purchase

5-0 out of 5 stars Best thing we've bought in years
That was my husband's comment this evening. We all love this thing. We use the griddle side for pancakes and eggs and french toast and plain ol' grilled cheese, although we've kind of given up on the "plain ol'" stuff. We use the grill side with a press for pannini and our new favorite kind of grilled cheese! We cook steaks and chicken and hot dogs and pork chops - you name it, we cook it.It never leaves the stove top, except to be cleaned (and to clean the admittedly greasy cooktop.)

One note that I haven't seen mentioned - we have a glass top stove.I was told (after I got and used this thing) that it couldn't be used with a glass top stove.Ummm, well, yeah, it can.A LOT!With great success.

One other note - we don't ever heat it higher than medium high and things cook extremely well. We had pork chops tonight and they were fantastic - just a nice cross-hatch of grill marks on the outside and perfectly cooked and juicy inside. That's when my husband made the comment in the title.

As for cleaning, we try to let excess stuff burn off for 15 minutes or so after we take the food off the grill. This works really well. Then I (let's be honest - the menfolk don't clean this puppy) put in across the sinks and scrub it with a stiff brush. No soap. Then I dry it and brush it with oil.If I really had to work hard at the cooked on food, I might even heat it up again to re-season it.

I grew up with cast iron skillets. My great-great-grandmother's cast iron skillet. It's passed down through our family to the daughter who has the most kids.(With only 1 child, I was never in the running!) That thing is so well seasoned you can cook almost anything in it without sticking. Oh, and it's 16" across. That's where that rule comes in about having the most kids!

I look forward to the day when my grill/griddle is that well seasoned.Considering how often we use it, it shouldn't take long! ... Read more

Lodge 5-Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Iron Lid
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Kitchen
    list price: $25.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

There are certain dishes that absolutely require cast-iron cookware, and others that just simply taste better when made with it. Sampling a hearty spoonful of authentic jambalaya right out this Dutch oven will make this point completely clear. Fancy alloys and coatings on other types of cookware are simply trying to emulate the innate qualities of properly seasoned cast iron: heat retention, even heat distribution, and a scratchproof nonstick surface that will never warp. Since 1896, Lodge has been steadily producing the world's most extensive selection of professional cast-iron cookware, lovingly poured one piece at a time. Cared for properly, which means never even thinking of putting them in the dishwasher, these products will last for generations. --Dominic Johnson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It is great
I bought this as a gold box special.I have a skillet as well, but do not use it very much.So far I have made hungarian goulash and weight watchers turkey chili in it and both have come out excellent.

My skillet was preseasoned, so this was my first go at seasoning.I learned that it is smoky and stinky, so don't do it right before having guests.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Bye-Bye Teflon and Hello Lodge Cast Iron
Kiss that Teflon coated cookware good bye.Get yourself a Lodge cast iron Dutch oven for the kitchen and tell me this isn't the best cookware you have ever owned.

I have been using my 5 quart Dutch oven for about two years now and despite it's weight, my food turns out better, tastier and clean-up is a breeze. In addition, cast iron can last a lifetime unlike Teflon coated pots and pans which can and will flake and apparently if in your food, it is unhealthy.

This pot has been used on electrical and gas stoves and with almost identical results. The pot does not require special heat coils or other "technology" to evenly distribute heat, it's built in its structure, it's cast iron.In addition, it can easily go from stovetop to oven for casseroles and other such items. One or two less items to clean at the end of the meal.

I highly recommend cast iron and as time goes on all my Teflon pots and pans will be completely replaced by cast iron.

Sometimes old becomes new again and I foresee that people will look more towards cast iron as their everyday cookware that is relatively inexpensive compared to "professional" cookware currently on the market. You really can't beat something that will outlast even you if you give it tender loving care.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS
I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period.Cast iron is not a quickie-cooking component (it takes time for the iron to heat, and it takes experience to gauge the iron's "perfect temperature" for sensitive dishes), but for dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This pot is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!).Heck, I even use my cast-iron skillet for CREPES, and that's saying something!Despite the pan's weight, it's an immeasurably better nonstick crepe-cooker than teflon. In fact, I use my cast iron cookware for everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made. ... Read more

Liven up the kitchen, table, and picnic spread with this colorful enamelware dinner set from CGS International. The 16-piece set includes four dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, and mugs in a cheery enamel finish. The pieces are lightweight and comfortable to handle, and the plates have a deep-dish design. The hand-applied enamel creates a splashy, marbleized effect offset by the pieces' heavy black rims. Though safe for both the dishwasher and the oven, these dishes are not designed for use in the microwave. The dinner plates measure 10-1/4 inches in diameter, and the salad plates measure 8 inches. The bowls are 6-1/4 inches in diameter, and the mugs stand 3 inches tall. --Emily Bedard

5-0 out of 5 stars You want to run your good tool on a cheezy little cord??
Amazing, how many guys I see insist on the best tools...and cheap out on an extension cord. What happens? They get voltage drops and burn up the tool.

This one is especially nice. Flexible in the cold, four connector end and nice heavy wire. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the survival tool I'm reviewing for you!
Hello, Today I would enjoy to explain to you my review of the navitool made by schrade. I like this little thing quite a bit. It is a little cluunky so if you want to carve something delicate for your sweetheart or open the wine for some romance, you should look at another place and read those reviews. The navitool has good tool and features. The compass is quality. The light is a very bright one, causing onlookers to squint and put their hands up in defense. The whistle is very high pitch and LOUD!! You cannot have enough imagination to see how loud it is. The only downsides are that I mentioned before the issue of the clunkiness and also a lack of waterproofing for the little compartment for the lighter. That would have been nice so you could keep the lighter dry. The plusses are for the overall quality of the manufacturing, the cleverly locking tools, the compass, and the light. Okay, I give it four stars for these reasons and hope I have been helpful for you today! Thank You! ... Read more

    What is WAAS?
GPS receivers have an accuracy of about 15 meters, but you can get to as close as 3 meters with a WAAS-enabled receiver. WAAS stands for Wide Area Augmentation System, which is a network of satellites and ground stations (in North America) that were designed to improve the accuracy and ensure the integrity of information coming from GPS satellites. Originally implemented by the FAA for aviation use, WAAS is particularly useful for serious outdoors enthusiasts as well as for precise in-city navigation.

It is powered by 2 AA batteries (included) that provide up to 14 hours of continuous use. It measures 5.6 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches and weighs 6.1 ounces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
"Absolutely astonishing optical performance" is the advertisement - and it rings true.Couldn't believe the difference when compared to Nikon Naturalist IV 7x35 (endorsed by the National Audubon Society). Both are comparable weight, but for twice the price of the Nikon, you get an order of magnitude more clarity & brightness.Remarkable!Only drawback is the lack of central focusing. The individual eyepieces require frequent adjustment for anything closer than 25 yards. This binocular is a keeper!

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely rugged and an overall good value...
This binocular is seems extremely well constructed and rugged. The image quality is good (though not great). The sport focus system does not really work from 20 yards out (as advertised). It's fairly sharp from 70 yards or so out, but I've found I have to re-focus for the 20-70 yard range. The focus mechanism is fairly stiff, so it does stay put once focused.Despite the minor shortcomings, this binocular was exactly what I was looking for - lightweight, rugged, decent image, reasonable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Bargain for the Price
Steiner has been making outstanding optics for years and the 8x30 M/M is another fine example. They are tough as a tank and crystal clear.Whether you are spotting deer at 400 yards or watching your kids soccer game the picture is always crisp, clear and requires no adjustment with Steiner's "sport auto-focus" system. This may sound like an advertisement for Steiner, but I am just a another COMPLETELY SATISFIED CUSTOMER.Sure, you can buy better optics.....but at 2,3,4+ times the price. Why? ... Read more
