Editorial Review

Featuring an ergonomic handle and smooth lines, Braun's1,500-watt electric water kettle handily sits on a separate heatingelement. When water boils--one cup takes only 70 seconds--it's a reliefto pick up the kettle and pour without worrying about the plug draggingbehind. Once the kettle is removed from the base, it automaticallyturns off for safety. This good-sized kettle heats up to six cups ofwater, making it ideal for small meetings at the office or to quicklyheat up water (and water only, please) at home. It has ananti-calcification filter to help keep the water tasting clear andclean. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another 5 star review...
What can I say? This thing is absolutely wonderful.Boils water in about 4-5 minutes, works like a charm, automatically shuts itself off as soon as the water comes to a boil, and it works on any surface.Just wanted to add my 5 star rating...

And for those of you wondering - yes - you can use this on ANY surface. The base of it does not get hot at all.I keep it on a wooden desk in my office and have never had any problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible kitchen appliance
This beautifully-designed water kettle is a real joy to have.It is very fast, always stays cool to the touch, turns off automatically or when lifted from the base, and looks great on the countertop.I use it every day!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent with lots of little advantages
We drink several cups of tea a day and are a heavy user of our kettle. Main reasons that we like it:
- Fast
-Detachable from base letting you bring it easily to your cup
-Automatic turn or when you lift it off the base (a safety issue in case of earthquakes, or simply animals that might knock it over)
-Auto turn off when it boils; we had ruined stove top kettles in the past by forgetting about them
-the clear panel (on both sides) lets you fill it for only a single cup of tea; saving a great deal of time (and some electricity I suppose). This is a huge benefit.
-Rotates on the base for either left or right hand use.
-Plastic keeps the water quite warm for a while HOWEVER, the biggest negative is that it not very visually attractive.

Sometimes overlooked as a valuable kitchen tool, tongs serve a variety of kitchen duties: tossing salads, flipping cutlets in a frying pan, snagging stubborn pickles from a jar, and more. These tongs are constructed of brushed stainless steel for easy cleaning and durability. A locking mechanism closes the tongs for easy storage, and provides a large loop for hanging. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Got 'em. Love 'em.
Seriously, I got a set of these recently, and they have made all the difference in my chicken marsala. My old tongs are single-piece molded rubber, designed for use with non-stick cookware, and twist something awful when trying to handle any but the lightest ingredients. As someone else pointed out, these stainless steel tongs are no good for non-stick, but I have been getting away from non-stick anyway, ever since discovering Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized cookware.

The wide, flat head of these tongs allows breaded foods to be gently lifted from the cooking surface without tearing the breading, and the hinged metal arms prevent torque. The lock mechanism is great, and allows you to put the tongs down just about anywhere without having to deal with splayed-out arms while cooking. As far as cleanup, I've been scared to put mine in the dishwasher, but manual cleanup is very easy, and I have yet to see food stick to the business end of this great product.

4-0 out of 5 stars simply put...
Good tool. Well thought out lock.Keep away from your non-stick cookware though. There are siliconized or plastic coated tipped tongs out there for use there.Very nice, very handy.Get them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy with a great locking mechanisim
These tongs a little more expensive, but they won't "twist" on you the way that cheaper tongs will when you try to pick up and flip a heavier item. The great locking mechanisim, which means never having to deal with sliding rings again, is worth the price of admission.I've used these tongs (and their longer 16" cousins) for everything, including grill duty, for about 3 years and they're just as good as new. ... Pyrex Professional Silicone Spatula Set

Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $29.00

Editorial Review

Tackle tough batters with this set of three oversized silicone spatulas. Silicone is a soft, pliable material that smoothly removes food from the sides of bowls. Yet its amazing properties include not only strength but heat resistance to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. That means the spatulas can be used to scoop portions of casseroles hot out of the oven, or to stir-fry a meal or mix a sauce in nonstick pans right on the stovetop. Strong Lexan handles won't break on that double batch of oatmeal cookie dough, and each features a guard that allows the handle to rest on the bowl without slipping into it. Dishwasher-safe, the set includes a 13-3/4-inch jumbo spatula, 13-inch spoon spatula, and 11-1/2-inch narrow spatula.--Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful!
This set is very useful. The smallest one was still a little too big for some uses, so for me, I purchased a mini Le Creuset spatula, also on Amazon. The midde spatula with the scope is the most useful of the set. I have not had the problem with stuff stuck in between the handle and the head. I toss them in the dishwasher and it seems to be fine for now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just okay for the price
As other reviewers have mentioned, these spatulas get "gunk" in the cracks where the handles connect and they are not comfortable to hold for long.

3-0 out of 5 stars missing spatula
I'm sure my sister will enjoy these but both of us were expecting to receive all three spatulas advertised as the set, not just two.The medium sized one, probably the most often used, was missing from the package with no replacements available.A disappointment! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!
THIS REPACED A FIVE YEAR OLD BLACK&DECKER BATTERY OPENER WHOSE BATTERY GAVE UP.I LIKE THE SOFT HANDS FOR GRIPING.I REMEMBER USING THE OLD STYLE ONE'S FORTY YEARS AGO AT HOME AND IN THE BOY SCOUTS AS MY MOM WORKED FOR SWING-A-WAY IN ST.LOUIS AT THE TIME.

2-0 out of 5 stars overrated
We've had one of these for about 5 years, and I'm about to toss it--it used to work well, but I can't get it to go all the way around a can and end up prying everything open.My husband always talks about them being used in space, but I have to wonder if they really take canned goods up there...

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally talked the wife into trashing her cheapy one
I remember looking at can openers in a store about 5 years ago and an old man handed me a swing away.It didn't look fancy like all the others I was weeding through, but he said "This one is the only one NASA trusts and the one I use at home is probably older than you!".He showed me the gears and how it's pretty much impossible to wear them out.It was cheaper than the fancy ones, and only a little bit more than the low-end ones in the mall shop I was at.

It worked great, but was 'borrowed' permanently by an ex-girlfriend (she did leave her fancy one...which would butcher any can you attempted to open with it)...

I finally talked my wife into trashing the dollar store one she picked up a couple years ago....she thought all can openers were the same.

My wife is happy we got it, especially the fact that it has more leverage to open the tough cans she used to struggle with. ... Read more

An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steelmandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, andsafely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. 5-0 out of 5 stars Have had one longer than....
I bought one the year before my youngest son was born - he is 18.5 years - it is still working like a charm. I have purchased want-to-be's in the past for family couldn't find the V-Slicer at the time. Now I am buying 5 for those I did wrong in the past - with the fakes - lol.I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite kitchen Gadget!!!
I bought one of these slicers about 10 years ago from an infomercial, and I absolutely LOVE it!I have used it on a daily basis. My most favorite use is to make quick work out of dicing large onions, getting the job done so fast that there are never any tears! It takes the tedium out of slicing, dicing, and chopping so that you can get on with the cooking! With the V-Slicer, you can turn out professional cuts every time!I highly recommend this product. As one reviewer said, the blades are very sharp and therefore last for years.Care and caution must be used when working with this item.In all the years I have used mine, I never had a mishap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just another quick sell gimmick....
When I first saw the V-Slicer, it was at the State Fair.As with most quick sell get rich items at the fair, I was very skeptical that this kitchen 'tool' would truly deliver results time and time again.

I've now owned the V-slicer (plus additional inserts) for 2+years and it's as amazing as the day I saw it at the fair. It's still razor sharp and very easy to clean (just wash with water).

The V-slicer is great for slicing anything and almost everything. It does wonders on tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, celery, onions, apples, and much more.I particularly like to slice up some nice thin hash browns and season them up for breakfast on Sunday mornings.

On top of it all, the price of the V-slicer cannot be beat.I've scene similar products selling for $50 - $100+ and I can help but think those are ridiculously over priced.Sure they're made of steel, but this V-slicer is a solid very sturdy plastic that maintains stability while slicing and allows for very simple clean up.

One word of caution, the blades are SHARP!Again, after 2 years, they're still extremely razor sharp.

The V-slicer has proved to be one of the most useful and least expensive tools we use in our home kitchen. For the price and usefulness, you won't be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT Logitech product
I got the Mx Duo (keyboard & mouse)

I am very pleased with them.

The keyboard has a very good design and good looks. It also has nice multimedia features.

The mouse is great, very precise, goods looks and very confortable.

Don't wait anymore...and place your order today !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
I havent had this keyboard and mouse set but an hour and its freakin awesome. all the options, f key options, browser, buttons, etc. its all awesome. so far i dont have any lag, i went to word and typed as fast as i could (randomly mashing keys) and it was instant! so i dont know why people say it has lag (prolly slow puters). i highly recommend this keyboard and mouse!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic keyboard and mouse. Minor aesthetic issue.
I've been using the Logitech Cordless MX Duo for a few months now of constant use. I am a big time typer and gamer and have easily but this keyboard and mouse combination through over 1000 hours of use.

The keyboard works great and does not have any latency at all, even when typing at extremely high speeds in excess of 120 WPM. The spacebar and return key on my keyboard are constantly struck, but they continue to work fine. After typing more than ten pages of text a day, all the keys are still responsive and feel the same when struck as when the keyboard was originally purchased. My keyboard has been running on its original set of batteries for months and hasn't slowed down whatsoever. The spacebar hasn't even shown any wear on the plastic which is the first time I've seen such a trait on a heavily used keyboard's spacebar.

The mouse also works very well with great response both in the OS and games alike. The mouse needs to be charged often, but as long as it's in the cradle for a few hours at a time every other day or so, it works fine.

The only problem I've been having with this combination wireless set is purely with aesthetics. The mouse paint is slowly starting to wear off due to heavy usage, exposing the white and silver plastic beneath. The areas showing the most wear are on the left mouse button, the base where my palm rests, and the left hand side where my thumbs rests. In these areas small patches no more than a few millimeters across have developed, completely revealing the plastic underneath.

All in all, this is a great keyboard and mouse combination for both the typical and hardcore computer user. If you don't plan on using your keyboards for hundreds of hours on end then it is highly unlikely that you will see the wear issues I described. If you will be using it constantly, and aesthetics aren't a concern, than I highly recommend this combination set from Logitech. For the average user of course, this keyboard rocks - plain and simple. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, Stylish and Durable
I couldn't tell you exactly how long I have owned my Oxo vegetable peeler, but it's a long, long, long time. The peeler looks as good and works as well as the day I bought it.

The tip of the peeler has a tapered, indented area perfect for quickly removing the eyes from potatoes and other similar little chores when preparing vegetables.

To keep the peeler working perfectly, I sharpen the facing blades with a diamond hone about twice a year.

I'm left handed. The tool is perfectly ambidexterous.

For the price, a terrific value of enduring quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good cooks know the value of a good peeler
I bought a Henkels peeler online and while waiting for it, I saw the Oxo and since I had nothing but good experiences with the brand, picked it up too, since there's always a peeler in the dishwasher when I need one anyway...
I have poor quality peelers I got as bridal shower gifts that came in sets with other gadgets and you can tell the difference between the Oxo and them. I love this peeler and it's just as sharp and even more hand friendly than the Henkels, which cost nearly twice as much.
You know it's good when a tedious chore like peeling potatoes is pleasurable. Oxo is a reliable brand. They've never let me down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly the best
I first bought this peeler several years ago and thought it was great. Then I lost it (threw it out with the peels!) and had to go back to a 'regular' one. Ouch! Now I really appreciate my Good Grips peeler.

The big handle truly is comfortable and the blade never seemed to dull, even after four years of steady use. One reviewer mentioned how hard the peeler is to clean - but a swipe of a vegetable brush gets in the nooks and crannies nicely, so I disagree.

It's so easy to peel vegetables with this thing, and you don't have to worry about taking the skin off your knuckles along with the peels. The eye-remover is a bit harder to use, but you can't slip and jab yourself with it either, which I really like.

I love this peeler. I'm not peeling potatoes again until I get my new one!

Fagor Multirapid Plus 6-Quart Pressure Cooker Set
by Fagor
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $119.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

The appeal of pressure cookers has always been their ability to rapidly cook virtually any food in mere minutes without sacrificing moisture or flavor. However, they've also traditionally been a bit intimidating, as you don't want to misinterpret the instructions and overcook your feast. Enter the Fagor Multirapid Plus, a 6-quart model that simplifies the process by making pressure-cooking as easy as pressing a button. This unit features a dual pressure system for added versatility, a pasta/steamer basket, and an included recipe book (Tastefully Under Pressure) and instruction manual.

With the Multirapid Plus, a whole chicken that normally takes 60 minutes will pressure-cook in 20 minutes. Broccoli, black beans, lobster, rice, and potatoes--all pressure-cook in half the time of traditional cooking or less. The pressure cooker, made of 18/10 stainless steel with an aluminum-clad bottom, works by sealing steam within its walls to create a heat well above boiling (approximately 250 degrees F). The resulting pressure, which can't escape due to the tight seal, keeps the temperature high and cooks the food rapidly. The cooker simultaneously holds flavors and nutrients inside, letting them stew rapidly along with the meats or vegetables. Unlike older models, the lid will not open until all the steam has dissipated and the pressure has been completely released. The cooker should be hand washed and dried and cleared of food particles. The unit comes with a 10-year warranty. --Rivers Janssen

4-0 out of 5 stars about Pressure Cooking
I am a first time user I want to point out a few things for people who is consider pressure cooking.
1. It may only need 1/3 of time of conventional cooking, but it takes time to build up pressure and also time to release pressure (fagor model has a release valve which can release pressure in a minute).
2. In conventional cooking you can control heat (high/medium/low) for different type of food. In pressure cooking you have no control; heat is adjust to maintain the desire pressure (15 psi / 8 psi) you set.
3. Certain food required constant stirring like pasta in conventional cooking; you would not be able to do that in pressure cooking.
4. Food maybe too tender (bones in soup maybe soft).A multi-pressure control would be recommended (such as the duo, multirapid plus models).
5. You cannot peep inside the pot like conventional cooking to see how well the food is done during middle of cooking.
Otherwise if you like pressure cooking, this is a good quality pressure cooker.

5-0 out of 5 stars so easy to use

The Wave is the flagship of the Leatherman line, and we would argue that it's the company's most versatile multitool to date. It comes loaded with 17 different tools, including everything from pliers to screwdrivers to wire cutters. We really like the Wave's quality construction, its four locking blades, and the fact that the user can get at the knife without having to open up the whole tool--a nice improvement over the original model. 5-0 out of 5 stars for those who value effeciency, this is a MUST!
very durable, dependable, and worth its (light)weight in gold.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice tool! Sheath not very "Deluxe".
The tool looks very useful and well made but the sheath looks like a piece of junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave the bedroom without it
I have had the wave for years now, and I have finally worn it down to where I need to get a new one. This thing has been at my side and provided me with countless experiences of being able to fix something ON THE SPOT.The weight is not too heavy at all for me. The scissors work great (I have even cut stainless steel shim with them). The pliers have been used for numerous fixes and the jaws of mine have finally worn smooth. The wire cutters have worked great. The hard wire cutter has never failed me unless I am trying to cut steel cable (a difficult task for any pair of plier-like cutters), but even then I can still manage to do it.The screwdrives have been abused yet still function very well. The blades accept a good sharpening and last for a good while after sharpening. The file is bar-none the BEST file on any multi-tool I have ever seen, and is better than most dedicated files I have used. The diamond file is spectacular. The single-handed blade opening and single-handed plier opening are features I have come to depend on.This is just a great tool that allows me to GET MORE DONE!The leather sheath is also very rugged yet quickly became supple and remains a durable home for this tool.
No, it's not the perfect tool for any one specific task, but it is a very useful tool nonetheless and serves it's purpose without fail.I am amazed mine has lasted as long as it has considering how often I use it, which is pretty much every single day.If I am wearing pants or shorts with a belt, then I have my leatherman. The only nuisance is I have to remember to pack it in my luggage prior to flying!
Worth every penny, and then some. ... Read more

Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated thermos travels to work or recreation easily, and for hours afterward, coffee, tea, or broth will still be hot. Or lemonade, iced tea, or a sports drink will still be chilled. Tapered toward the top and slim enough (11 inches high, 3 inches in diameter at bottom) to safely pour with one hand, it slips into a briefcase or backpack. Pouring is a snap--twist off the cup, which holds 6 ounces of liquid, twist the stopper a few turns and pour through a no-drip slot (there's one for righthanders, another for lefthanders) without removing the stopper. Fine threading ensures the stopper seals tightly, while the exterior has a handsome satin finish. I like to carry around hot coffee or tea with me throughout the day, and this does the trick.I often leave my house at 11 and don't get back until 10 at night, and this thermos will keep my beverage steaming hot even with me pouring a drink every so often. That's also a good point, the screw-top doesn't have to come completely out in order to pour; it can be screwed open half-way, and it serves as a convenient pouring spout. It's very well-designed--the pour stream is just the right speed, and when I'm done, nothing leaks over the edge and down the side of the canister.

The bottle itself is quite sturdy and, as someone mentioned, makes a very pleasant gong sound when struck with your finger.I dropped it once on the hard asphalt parking lot, and it came out unscathed. The cup top, however, is much softer apparently, and dented quite easily. It's not really damaged, I'm just a little upset that it dented when the rest of the bottle didn't.

Overall, a very good choice of thermos if you like to have a hot drink all day long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best travel "Thermos" out there
I was quite frustrated by many similar designs that just didn't seem to work right, although at the time I had no idea how good a travel "thermos" should be.I thought all these 'munition' styled insulated bottles were made the same, but clearly they aren't.

The lid on my current travel thermos broke and I was in the market for a new one, and by accident ran into the Amazon reviews.I couldn't believe the claims. But it made sense, considering "clone" bottles cost half to 1/3rd the price of the Nissan Stainless, maybe clones weren't made with similar standards.

I tried similar designs from Starbucks, Dicks Sporting Goods, and a kitchen supply store and none could keep liquids warm past 4 hours, much less hot. They all came with fancy pour spouts, a spring loaded pop-up or insta-open fancies that all broke in 1-2 years and were very difficult to clean [coffee in the spring mechanisms was impossible to clean without disassembling the non-user serviceable spouts]. What ever happened to a simple cork like cap?

I was surprised by the Nissan. As it use is for travel, weight and size is important so while a tad bigger and heftier, keeping liquids _hot_ at least 8 hours or longer was far more important, and it did that very well.It had a simple screw on cap, that was superbly easy to clean. This is the one year anniversary of my bottle, and I couldn't be more happier. It has many dings and bumps today, dropped numerous times, treated without respect as it goes through hell all day and still rocks!

Some quickie notes to help other readers:

Heat retention:although this is claimed to past 12 hours, it depends on how much liquid remains in the bottle. The energy of the remaining liquid is extracted faster than if the bottle were full.If you don't precharge the bottle with boiling water for at least 10 minutes or longer, the liquid won't stay hot as long either.I drink small 'sake' size sips of coffee all day at work and with this bottle, 8 hours is the norm.

Cleaning: for stainless steel, a simple method of removing coffee stains is baking soda, i.e., sodium bicarbonate ... it neutralizes the acids and the stains literally strip away from stainless steel.A tablespoon added to boiling water, soak for half hour or longer [for best results, recap the bottle and leave overnight] will restore a new shine with little to no scrubbing.

Excellent product, it could last forever! ... Read more

This 10-piece cookware set offers versatility, beauty, and practicality, represents a fine value, and outfits a kitchen for most cooking needs. Sony D-NS921F Atrac3/MP3 CD Sports Walkman
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Electronics
list price: $199.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Get durable, high-tech, Sony Sports style and hours of digital music listening with Sony's D-NS921F portable CD player. The ultraslim player includes SonicStage CD Simple Burner software so you can take advantage of ATRAC3plus, Sony's proprietary music-compression technology when making custom MP3 CDs on a computer. And, though it's not designed for immersion, the Walkman offers a water-resistant design with rubber gaskets, bushings, and water-resistant seals that help keep out water, moisture, and dirt. A three-way control on the player's grip gives you access to Active Control playback operation during active uses.

The D-NS921F puts the best of the broadcast world at your fingertips, too, with FM/AM/TV/weather-band digital tuning. Using its 54-station preset memory (30 FM, 10 AM, four weather-band, seven TV, and three favorites), favorite stations are never more than a button away. The player also offers a three-line dot-matrix display, 14 playback modes for the ultimate in music management (repeat, shuffle, and others), and delivers up to 75 hours of continuous playback on two "AA" type batteries (not included) using ATRAC3 files (48 hours of CD audio).

ATRAC3plus is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space (you'll get around 490 songs per disc at 48 kbps).

The player comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with ID3 tagging and most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from your PC's hard drive and burns them to a CD using ATRAC3plus compression. CD Text and ID3 tag support gives you easy access to CD Text information as well as details like song title, album title, and artist name.

Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. Bookmark playback lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and CD Text support displays artist and title information with compatible commercial audio CDs.

Sony's two-position automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries and guards your hearing by capping your listening level. Finally, the unit's Walkman-logo headphones are Sony MDR (Micro Dynamic Receiver) type for wide dynamic range and excellent sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alternitive to iPOD, If you can still find it anywhere.
This player is great, I've had it for about over a year and it works great. When I first got it the software (Sonicstage) was HORRIBLE. Over the year Sony and connect and sonicstage have updated themselves three times solving all problems I had with burning Discs with my computer (Atrac format). The radio works great. Tv Tuner works great. Mp3 Discs play great. Atrac discs now play great after the last upgrade about a month ago. I currently own the S2 Sports Minidisc/Recorder, and Ipod and this player. The Minidisc works fine but the Atrac discs sound so much better on this player that I use this player for long trips and the office. The Ipod I use for workouts because of the Size and variety of music at my fingertips. (The Ipod Battery I have to recharge about every other day so that makes it not suitable for trips) I carry about three compact discs that hold a ton of music for trips and harder workouts (the unit is durable and waterproof). I've had a ton of portables (Mindiscs 5, Cd Players
4, and an Ipod 20Gb) and I always reach for this player or the Ipod depending on the situation (Business look - discreet Ipod) For the record This unit sounds worlds better that the Ipod using the Mp3 burned discs or the Atrac burned discs (Even better!) Minidisc was a nice format but all the moving parts inside the players always seem to break very easily. The Ipod doesn't have those Issues except It can be a hassle to recharge away from home
and It isn't waterproof. This unit runs on batteries, best sounding using the Atrac discs and is damn tough and waterproof (TV, AM/FM and MP3/ATRAC). You won't find a better deal money wise. Just my opinion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for.....
I bought this player because its very hard to find something that will play mp3s *and* give you AM/FM radio. There are some times I want to jam and there are some times I want to listen to the game which requires the AM. I'm happy with the player overall, no skips or chirps in mine and it plays my CD-RW discs without complaint.

The only reason for the 4 star rating is the time it takes to move from track to track. I have many mp3s that are live performances, and the tracks are meant to be played right after one another to preserve the presentation. The player takes a good 2-3 seconds after each track to start the next one, which breaks up anything that is meant to run consistently. My Sony DVD player in my stereo rack has only a millisecond of pause when playing the mp3s. I havent tested this with a regular audio CD.

Overall though, great player. Use it everyday!

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely the best CD-player around(good price/quality)
I bought this CD-player about 2 months ago and Im really happy with it.Sony Mexico doesnt have this product for selling in Mexico, and i dont know why, thats why i bought it via deremate.com(like ebay.com) because I liked all the features of it.

Now, I havent realized of that "chirping" until today i read these reviews. So, I put my dns921f on test: I put a MP3-full CD with songs at different constant bitrate. There I have a 3:59 duration classical guitar song recorded @ 192kbps and 44.1Khz, so I played it at the medium , and I realized that there were strange sounds (not exactly chirping, its like a quiet "ffsss" sound of0.7 secs aprox., like the sound when you change the frequency on a radio when looking for a radio station) The sounds appeared 3 times:
@ G-protection 1:
1:13
2:17
3:21
@G-protection 2:
1:14
2:17
3:22

But then I heard the entire album of that song while surfing the web and I didnt realize the sounds were there...

that's the only "but" i found for this anyway GREAT CDplayer!
i have even walked outdoor with it under heavy rain, dropped it when i was driving and I braked hard and the player flew away due to the centrifuge, hit the dashboard and fell to the floor, but the music didn't have any skip!!!!. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Quality Iron
I have owned the Rowenta DE-991 Ultra Professional Iron for 24 monthsnow and it is the best quality iron I have ever owned...This iron is awesome, never any disappointments....and I am a picky person...but love this quality unit !!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
This is my second Rowenta. The first one lasted 3 years, it was OK just that it wasn't warming anymore, I liked the weight. The DM 991 has a nice temperature but it leaks a lot. I'm very disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Getsteam back into action again...
I gave the iron 3 stars because when it works well, it works very well. But then comes the day when it starts to have problems.

I have owned Rowenta irons in the past and I understand some of the disgruntled comments submitted here.I had a similar problem until I tried the steps below. Can't guarantee this will work for everybody - I can only say that it worked for me. {Please follow manufacturer safety procautions - iron should be off while filling with water, power setting turn to low to start, etc.)

Over a sink and with the iron on it's hottest setting, try the iron's 'self-cleaning' feature with plain cold tap water first.Fill the resevoir to nearly to it's maximum mark.Holding the iron horizontally, press and hold the "self-clean" button for one minute and release.Continue pressing "self-clean" in one minute intervals until the water is nearly finished.Test the iron on a cloth, iron/steam as usual. If the iron does not generate steam or if it still has a leaky/spit problem, try using the vinegar/water solution described below.

Step 1.Take a little less than 1/4 of a cup of white vinegar (I used Heinz) and mix it with 1 and 1/2 cups of tap water.Pour the solution into the iron - fill nearly to maximum mark.Keeping the iron in an horizontal position, gently rock it slightly from side to side - just enough to encourage the steam/drain action while pressing and holding the "self-clean" button in one minute intervals. You can alternate the rocking with a flat, circular motion keeping the iron horizontal.Continue until the liquid is nearly finished.

Step 2. Very Important - this time refill the iron to the maximum mark only with plain tap water. The purpose of this step is to rinse out the remainder of the vinegar solution as well as any remaining deposits.Pressing "self-clean" in one minute intervals, continue the gentle rocking and steam process until the liquid is nearly finished.
If desired, repeat step 2.

Step 3. Now refill with plain tap water and test out the iron on a cloth. It should be ok but if the spitting/leaking problem persists, repeat steps 1 and 2 again.

All told the process may take about 10 minutes.

The manufacturer's instructions suggest plain tap water "self-cleaning" occasionally but not more than once a month. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars flawless rice
Bottom line: It cooks fantastic rice.I think you probably can't go wrong with any Zojirushi. This is 1 of 2 appliances I have purchased that I am completely happy with and use regularly. The other is an immersion blender.

Two things set this rice cooker apart - the Induction Heating cooking method, and the GABA brown cook setting. The IH is very nice.Beneath the non-stick bowl is a sleek compartment with a couple small disk-like touchpoints that make contact with the bowl.It is extremely easy to keep clean, inside and out.

I have owned this rice cooker for 5 months now.It is the first rice cooker I have ever used.I purchased it after much research because I love brown rice, and thought if I can get something extra out of brown rice with this cooker, why not?

Actually, I haven't used that GABA function as much as I thought I would.Mostly because it takes about 3-4 hours to soak/cook rice using that method which means I would have to plan ahead, load the cooker with rice and water before I leave for work, and set the timer.Honestly, it is simple to complete those3 steps, but I still just don't do it that much.I did some research on the claims that soaking the rice at a higher temp does indeed give you more of that GABA, and it seems valid, but it also seems you may be able to produce the same effect outside your rice cooker if you could somehow maintain a constant warm temperature during the soak.

Thing I was worried about most before I bought this:
Size:I don't need a 10 cup rice cooker.I am most often cooking for 2, occasionally more.I was worried it would be too large. It has worked out great though, and the size does not diminish the quality of the rice when I cook only 2 cups.It IS, however, too large in the sense that you are wasting electricity if you constantly use it to cook only 2 cups of rice. But I am convinced that having the large bowl has prevented some spillover from recipes like rice pudding and steel-cut oatmeal.

Some words on recipes involving more than just rice:
I purchased the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook at the same time, and several recipes call for cooking things in the bowl using the quick-cooking setting before adding rice.Problem is, the quick-cooking setting, like any setting, cycles the heat on and off, and your onions, which may have taken 3 minutes to saute on the stove, take twice as long or more in the rice cooker.Sure, sure, you can do all that outside the rice cooker, but I am stubborn and only want to clean 1 pot later on.Also, if you are stubborn like me, and want to cook rice dishes like this in your cooker, you will find that when the recipe says 'ok, now reset the rice cooker to quick-cooking once more, set it and forget it', the cooker is now too hot, you get a warning, and it refuses to cook anymore until it is cool.I remove the bowl from the cooker and let everything sit for about 5 minutes, and then I can set the program and forget. No, these fuzzly-logic cookers were not made to cook like this, but its fun to experiment with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding rice cooker.
I have used Zojirushi rice cookers for many years.I just recently upgraded to this one.
You really can't go wrong with any of the Zojirushi rice cookers. This one just heats the entire bowl evenly, instead of just applying heat to the bottom of the bowl.
It has menu settings for many different types of rice - white rice, harder white, softer white, brown rice, mixed rice, gaba brown rice.
It makes absolutely perfect rice.It is, of course, critical that you rinse rice first or you'll wind up with a starchy sticky bowl of glop, but thats the same with any machine.Just remember to rinse thoroughly first.
My only complaint is that until now, all the Zojirushi's have had a retracting electric cord.Very convenient. This one is their newest, highest priced rice cooker, and it does NOT have a retracting cord.Just a plain old cord that hangs there.Makes storage a little more of a pain.
Other than that a fabulous machine - you should try one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for sipping on the go...
I left my thermos in a classroom at the botanical gardens and never saw it again. Someone knew a good thermos when they found one. I'm buying a replacement.Warm stays warm - cool stays cool.I love the little straw for sipping while I'm driving. The straw is soft and flexible - safer when you're driving.I miss mine terribly and wish I had ordered a new one in time to take my tea on the plane with me this week!

5-0 out of 5 stars I OWN 4 OF THESE BABIES!
I take them everywhere; boating, job interviews, shopping, etc.I drop them and they don't become damaged, they lay on their side for hours without leaking, and they keep my water cold forever. In addition, the design allows those of us with small hands to hold the bottle comfortably. It will even fit in many coat pockets and larger purses.

I can't say enough about this product. If you are a water addict like I am, this is a must have.Be aware that you will get sick of people asking you where you got it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This bottle is my new best friend....
The bottle was one of my "Gold Box" deals; otherwise I may have never seen it and that would have sucked! When I noticed it had a 'permanent' straw, I was convinced to give it a try. I prefer drinking from a straw, even placing straws in soda cans. This bottle is comfortable to hold and never collects condensation on the outside of the bottle to make it slippery! On average, 5-6 medium ice cubes will take approximately 4-6 hours to melt when bottle is refilled with cool water.I drink a lot more water now than ever before! This is a GOOD thing!!The bottle is very easy to clean and the upper straw piece and bottom tube are easily detached and reattached.Mine came with an extra straw set.Although too large for my car's cup holders, I found that I can lay the bottle on it's side in the passenger's seat and it does not drip or leak. You will not believe how cold it can keep your beverage.Great for using when working in the yard under the hot sun.Now I have to get my husband one, too!!You really do want this bottle!!It's GREAT!! ... Pancakes, eggs, and bacon somehow taste extra hearty whencooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron creates superior heatretention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans.Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp inthis generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting, and two subtle side lips for pouring. While the skillet comespreseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayedor lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. 5-0 out of 5 stars The One to Own
Hands down, the best skillet I've ever used and owned. I used to fire up the grill all the time, but the Lodge 12" cast iron skillet has made me WANT TO cook my steaks on my stovetop these days. It's heavy, but heat conduction is superb. Just be super careful not to touch cast-iron handles when the skillet's hot, you may "brand" yourself... ouch! You can "season" the cast iron skillet yourself, but I bought the pre-seasoned one to save me the initial trouble. Follow care instructions and you'll have a skillet for life. The more you use it, the better it gets. Those modern non-stick pans (Teflon or what-not) can't touch it. There's nothing to dislike with this fantastic, down-to-earth, USA-made skillet that will grace your family's kitchens for generations to come. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price, terrific results
I reiterate the praises that other reviewers have given to this skillet. It is so well-priced for what you get--a highly reliable performer that is indestructible and that will outlast all of us. This skillet goes from the stovetop into the oven or broiler--or into a crackling fire--with no problem. The more I learn about and experiment with cooking, the more I appreciate that versatility. (Just be sure to invest in a silicon or other good quality, high-heat oven mitt or pad to protect your hands when using it in an oven or campfire.)

As much as I love All-Clad products, I've switched primarily to cooking with cast iron, and when I think about all of those Teflon-coated pans I've gone through in the last 30 years that must be filling up landfills somewhere, I wish I had never even heard of Teflon. If you can manage the weight of the cast iron, which most people should be able to do, there is nothing better and longer lasting.

Whether you get the preseasoned version of this skillet or not, the ritual of seasoning the iron with vegetable oil and coarse (kosher) salt is one that I always enjoy, and it requires very little time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kitchen Pan I own!
I was always skeptical about Cast Iron pans, because they just sounded like so much work to keep up with - seasoning, don't do this, do that -- For years I just stuck to my regular pans thinking I wasn't missing anything. Boy was I wrong!

The pre-seasoning part was also a big skeptical point with me, but true to words, it is. I love this pan. It's heavy, but thanks to the helper handle I never feel like I'll drop it. Cleanup is so much easier than I thought, and it really keeps it's tempature, even on a flat electric stove.

I have yet to make something in this pan that didn't come out great. From pan searing steak to frying chicken, I've had nothing but a consistantly good experience. ... Read more

Compatible with Caller ID/call waiting, the KX-TG5240M offers a 50-station caller ID memory and dialer, accessible through the handset's three-line backlit LCD. It also features talking caller ID, which audibly announces who's calling through the handset and base speakerphones. Rounding out the main features are an integrated digital answering system and a light-up antenna on the handset that flashes to alert you to new calls and messages. The handsets also offer a variety of ring tones and melodies to choose from.

The KX-TG5240M allows you to pre-program frequently called numbers, even for chain dialing (ideal for calling automated systems that require a series of numeric inputs). It's also Caller IQ compatible, a service provides updates on weather, sports, horoscopes, and more; the information is sent directly to your telephone and displayed on the handset screen. (Caller ID and call waiting require subscription through your phone company. Caller IQ is a fee based service that requires registration.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe they fixed it?
I read the other reviews for this and many of them complained that the person at the other end would hear your voice garbled or distorted if you got too close to the base unit.We just bought a KX-TG5243M (same as the 5240 but it comes packaged with 3 handsets) on May 27, 2005, and it does not have that problem.I have even held the handset with the antenna literally touching the base unit antenna, and the person I was talking to could hear me clearly. So I guess either the problem did not exist on every unit, or Panasonic has fixed it.
Other than that, the phone has everything we want, including some features that were sorely missing on our old Uniden TRU-5885:On it you could not have a conference call with both handsets - only with a handset and the speakerphone in the base unit. And every time the power went out I had to get the manual out to find out how to set the clock again, despite the fact that every time a call came in the Caller ID showed the CORRECT time.Panasonic has managed to make their phone smart enough to use the caller ID info to update its clock automatically.

5-0 out of 5 stars About 3 months and problem free
I have had this system with one extension phone for about 3 months now and have had no problems with it. Great sound quality, no glitches in performance or operation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Loved the features, hated the sound quality
I bought this unit because of other reviews I had read concerning wireless connections and cordless phones.Well, they were wrong. The extra handset was in the room with our wireless router for our computers. You had to leave the room to get a phone call. There was nothing but static on the phone.

The base unit had some problems too with sound. It would screech and whistle about 15-20 seconds into a call, and that was standing right in front of the base.

I really did like some of the features like the speaker phone/intercom.All the whistles and bells aren't worth anything if the phone doesn't work.I took this back and got an AT & T E5960.So far we are satisfied with that one. ... Read more

Panasonic/Pantene EH5502W Ultra Ionic Hair Dryer with 5X Ions and Volumizer Attachment.
by Panasonic
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Health and Beauty
list price: $34.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Designed by Panasonic and endorsed by the Pantene Hair Research Institute, this ionic hair dryer uses advanced technology to deliver five times the ions of its competition (according to independent test results) to promote healthier hair. The hair dryer uses negative ions to combat the positively charged ions found in hair cuticles. The benefit of this process is that the negative ions coat the hair follicle and lock moisture in for deep conditioning during hair drying. Hair ends up looking less frizzy and becomes shinier, softer, and more manageable. The Ultra Ionic dryer also has better air flow so it dries hair more quickly, using less damaging heat.

Three speed/heat settings give you a few styling choices. For those mornings when you are running late, the Quick Dry setting is the hottest and offers the highest speed so you can get your hair dry and get out the door. The high-speed Styling setting is ideal for an initial blow-dry on most other occasions, while the low-speed Finish setting should be used next to concentrate on individual sections of hair and set your style. A cool-shot button can also help set styles by sending a blast of non-damaging cold air to almost-dry hair.

This hair dryer has an additional volumizer attachment for creating extra body; a snap-on concentrator nozzle for targeting specific sections of hair; and an easy-to-remove air filter for cleaning. The dryer is covered by a two-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It Love It Love It
What can I say...best hair dryer I've ever had (and I have had many).I'm buying a second for my gym bag.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes my hair feel great, but...
I generally like Panasonic products, and this one is no exception.

A couple of things you should know:

The hair dryer leaves my hair feeling much better than my old conair hair dryer.I'm not sure if this is because the of the ionizer (see the product description), or because the hair dryer doesn't get nearly as hot as my old dryer.Either way, it takes a little bit longer, but my hair is in much better shape.

Also, my old dryer had a cord which would retract into the dryer when I wasn't using it.The Panasonic doesn't have that feature, and I miss it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST blow dryer out there!
I had a Braun blowdryer with a volumizer attachment that I was dearly in love with - but the poor thing was 10 years old, and almost on its last legs.

Now why would anyone want a volumizer? Well, it's perfect if you don't like your hair plastered flat onyour head like you just got a lube job. A few seconds with a volumizer "lifts" your hair up a bit by the roots and gives it some body and style without using a curling iron or rollers.

Most women just looks better with some height - heroin chic just isn't for everyone. :)

It's really hard to find a blow dryer with a volumizer attachment since the "high hair" look died. This Panasonic one was the only one I could find, so I took a chance for $20.

I was in AWE! The volumizer attachment is 3 times bigger than the Braun one I had. It takes give seconds, putting it on the crown of your head, and your hair has instant lift! Fast and quick!

But the thing I hadn't counted on was this ion gizmo. My hair looked like I had just had a deep conditioning treatment! The texture of my hair is thick, but wavy and a bit coarse when blow dried too much. My hair was like SILK! What incredible shine and texture!

The dryer has several settings that aren't just "low" and "fryyour tresses." The syling setting is great for drying, and the finishing setting just dumps ions onto your hair, making it look like you just had it styled in a Fifth Avenue salon!

There's also a cool shot button that helps "set" curls or waves where you want them to be.

Ifyou aren't Kate Moss and like your hair with some body to it and a blinding, silky texture, I highly recommmend this blow dryer! (P.S. I bought mine from Amazon, and it came with a full-sized sample of Pantene conditioner. Just another reason to give this dryer a try - it's one of the few things that actually does MORE than you expect!) ... Read more

Rowenta DM-880 Professional Luxe Iron
by Rowenta
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $125.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

This model eases the burden of heavy ironing with loads of features, beginning with a dimpled, polished stainless-steel soleplate for a smooth glide and a large transparent water tank for interruption-free work. The Luxe also has 1,440 watts of power and automatically shuts off in 30 seconds if left horizontal or tipped over (in 8 minutes if left vertical). A self-cleaning button flushes out mineral buildup in the water tank. Operational features on this iron include everything imaginable. There are variable steam settings, including vertical steam for removing wrinkles in curtains and hanging garments, misting spray, and steam burst. This iron also has a double row of steam holes and an antidrip system for when the thermostat is on low. Rowenta hasn't overlooked convenience, either. The center-mounted pivoting cord prevents tangles, the soft handle provides a slip-resistant grip, and antiskid bumpers ensure stability when the iron is upright. This iron carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent iron but ...
The DM-880 is my 2nd Rowenta iron.(My first lasted over 12 years!)As I was expecting, the DM-880 does a great job of getting out the wrinkles and the burst of steam you get is probably better than any other brand of iron.My only complaints are that the auto shut-off kicks in after only 8 minutes and there's no on-off switch on this iron. Instead, the instructions say you should unplug the iron after every use.(And if you decide not to in favor of letting the auto shut-off turn the iron off, the in-use light will start blinking and keep right on blinking for hours, apparently to remind you that you should have unplugged the iron.)If, like me, you iron every day and you're used to leaving your iron plugged in, you may want to try another brand of iron. The lack of an on-off switch and too-quick auto shut-off is why I'm only giving the DM-880 4 stars instead of 5.

1-0 out of 5 stars It leaks badly
we have a new one.the water runs right out of it.It is going back to the store fast

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
If you want an Iron that will last you for a long time, this is the one.
I actually have the DM860 Model but don't see any differences.
I bought the Iron about a year ago and just love it. I grew up with my mother using a Rowenta Iron and she still uses the one she bought 13 years ago. No complaints. I especially like the steam function, almost no water dripping. The self cleaning function is a great addition, since some of the older Models did not have that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ironing Board
I thought this ironing board was a little costly, but I liked the design so I bought it. I have never been more satisfied with an ironing board in my life. The ergodynamic design is great not only for you, but also your clothes. Make sure to get a really good non-stick iron to go along with it. ... Read more
