PalmOne 32MB Expansion Card (m125, m130, i705 & m500 series) Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (3)
I turned the Palm off, put the chip in, and it just kinda does what it is supposed to do. It could not be easier. My only worry is that I might lose it, because its smaller than a Kennedy half dollar.
1) This card is designed to hold data, not programs. You can put some programs on it, but it's not very pretty. The programs all go into a single group in the launcher for "Expansion Card" and many will not work when installed there. There's a free program called MSMount which allows you to "mount" a directory on the expansion card as if it were local. It works well for most programs, but there are still some programs that don't work.It also greatly slows down many operations on the device. 2) Programs must support putting data on the card. You cannot move data from your addressbook, memo pad, etc. over to your card. Many of my huge memory hog programs (ThinkDB2, AvantGo) won't let me stick their data files onto the memory card and so I can't offload. Plus, many of my programs (TealDoc, DocsToGo, FireViewer) had to be upgraded for me to get support for storing their items on the memory card. Now, if you're looking to hold lots of data for use, the card delivers just what you'd want. I've moved all of my pictures (which I create/view with FireViewer) over to the device.I now have tons of photos of my friends and family easily accessible. I've got bunches of eBooks on the card.I used to need to break up a standard novel into a bunch of 200k chunks, but now I can throw the whole thing (usually ~1mb) on the card without worrying about running out of room. DocToGo lets me sync all my work documents onto the device for convenient access and updating. ... Read more Asin: B000063ELI |

PalmOne m515 Color Handheld Average Customer Review: Electronics US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The release of the Palm m515 handheld proves that Palm listens to customers and is willing to make changes. Thanks to the indifferent customer response to the lackluster color screen of the Palm m505 (released in 2001), the Palm m515 boasts a much brighter display and contrast controls that were missing in its predecessor. We were among the many who voiced disappointment with the Palm m505, and while the m515's color screen still isn't at the top of the class, it's an obvious and welcome improvement. With display support for over 65,000 colors, icons and images (viewed in the included PhotoSuite application) have a nice richness and depth of color. However, as the screen resolution is only 160 by 160 pixels, the m515 doesn't achieve the crispness found in the Sony T615 (which has a 320 by 320 pixel resolution). But ultimately, unless you need a high-end multimedia viewer integrated into your handheld, you should be suitably happy with the m515's display. There are only three levels of brightness contrast control--high, low, and off. At first we were taken aback by the "off" setting, as it rendered the screen almost invisible in our office, but it's fine for outdoor usage and will help conserve battery power. With its curved angles, thin design, and light weight, the Palm m515 feels very comfortable, both in the palm of your hand and resting in your pocket. Also, with the m515's 33 MHz DragonBall VZ processor, we found switching applications to be very fast. The applications and desktop software (version 4.01 for Windows and version 2.6.3 for Mac) haven't changed, and that's just fine with us. (Note that a beta version of Palm Desktop 4 for Mac OS X is available for download.) The Palm interface is one of the most elegant and simple to understand--yet powerful--operating systems around. But Palm adds more power with a variety of add-on applications that you can choose to install, ranging from Documents To Go for viewing and editing Word and Excel documents, to Palm's collection of mobile connectivity apps, to the aforementioned PhotoSuite for viewing images and short movies. Our favorite is AvantGo, an app that downloads Web content to the m515 whenever you synchronize, which enables us to keep up with the latest world news as well as Aussie Rules Football scores. You can add even more content and applications via the expansion slot, using optional Secure Digital or MultiMediaCard memory cards. You can choose to synchronize the Palm m515 with the Palm Desktop application or link to Microsoft Outlook (Windows only). Palm Desktop is more than adequate, but if you are in a corporate environment and Outlook is your scheduling/e-mailing/tasking brain center (which it is for us), the synchronization is seamless. Overall, we're very happy with the Palm m515--it's quick on its feet, has a nice color display, and is loaded with great software additions that can enhance both your productivity and your fun. --Agen G.N. PalmOne Modem Connectivity Kit (m125, m130, i705, Tungsten T & m500 series) Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $133.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Stay connected to the Internet and get e-mail messages even when you're out of the office with Palm's Modem Connectivity Kit for the m500 and m550 handhelds. The Connectivity Kit will give you access to your ISP with 56K remote access, so you can download e-mail messages quickly and easily with the included AOL Mail and MultiMail SE software. Sure you can do a litle web surfing but that is not its' true calling or intention.Checking your eMail is what this modem is all about and where it shines like the true star it is.Setup is easy and the supplied software is not the best but will get you where you want to go. Battery life is great and that makes it always a good device to carry along on any business trip.
When connecting to the Avantgo.com, the modem will sync to the site for just download enough informtion for the e-mails or web site. It appears in order to go to another web clipping, the modem has to re-connect, which seems like a hassle. However, for limited internet usage, and could also be used for stock market symbols, the modem will connect to the web clipping and then shut off. The modem has limited uses and is only a land line with no wireless use. The modem also uses 2 tripple A batteries, without recharable option. ... Read more Asin: B00005B6S3 |

CardAccess Wristband Thinmodem Plus Springboard Module Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $149.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The next best thing to wireless Internet access for your Handspring Visor is CardAccess's Wristband Thinmodem Plus, a 56K modem that packs an extra 7.5 MB of flash memory storage into the miniscule module. Unlike other modems, the Thinmodem Plus fits snugly into the module slot, with nothing hanging over the edge--meaning you can keep the module in for its storage capabilities and easily sheathe your Visor in its carrying case. The modem beeps when inserted, to let you know the hookup has been completed. Then the 6-foot phone cable connects to the modem--unfortunately the connection was so tight that tugging the cable out sometimes pulled the module out of our Visor. Most of the configurations are simple--enter the dialup number for your ISP, as well as login name and password, and you then connect. Some ISPs required minor workarounds: for example, our MSN account needed "MSN/" inserted before our login name. Note that because AOL and Compuserve use proprietary browsers, users of these ISPs can only connect to these accounts for checking e-mail, not browsing the Web. The registration process for the bundled BrowseIt software took quite a few steps and we were forced to enter our username and password several times. But once we had everything entered in, browsing was simple. We could use the bookmarks (as well as add our own), or enter any URL. Although the Thinmodem Plus promises low power consumption, it still drains the batteries rather rapidly. Its connectivity is best for e-mail grabbing and synching up with sites for offline viewing more than long-term Web site browsing. The storage side of the Thinmodem Plus works simply and smoothly. The included FileMover application lets you easily transfer files from the Visor to the module or vice versa. It's a useful extra for the module--who can't use more storage space on their handheld? The combination of modem and memory makes the Thinmodem Plus a bargain for anyone looking for ways to stop lugging the laptop along. --J. Curtis Pros:

Handspring Treo 180 PDA and Cellular Communicator Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $99.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (2)
The Treo has everything that I could want in a unified form factor. My Calendar/Phone/AddressBook/Work Files are all included in the one machine. Now that I have the Targus Universal Keyboard, this thing is practically self-sufficient. Despite the marvelous features and form factor, reliability has been an issue with me, and many others apparently. Check the comments at TreoCentral.com regarding periodic problems. After I purchased the extended warranty, the sent me a new Treo within the first 90 days (in basic warranty). Since I need the phone constantly, the new Treo is sent with a return box for 29.00. After 90 days, the story changes unless you have Extended warranty. They have replaced my Treo 5 or 6 times since I bought it, and speed/courtesy are part of the warranty. The product is not perfect, but their quick and courteous treatment of the extended warranty provisions is excellent. I am waiting for the Treo 600, which is hinted to be the perfect PDA/Phone. But I will buy the Extended Warranty. ... Read more Asin: B00006I5BH |

I picked this charger up with 4 batteries for $20 and all I had to add to it for use throughout Europe was a plug adapter. It takes 8 hours to charge which is a little long, but all you have to do is plug it in before you go to sleep and they'll be done when you wake up.I don't know what I would have done without this charger on my trip through Europe.

As you might expect, each program has it's strengths and weaknesses. While PocketMoney has a nicer, icon-based account list, Pocket Quicken seems a little cluttered, with awkward rounded and square "buttons" to switch between account list and register.I also thought PocketMoney had a more natural method of entering data - more like Quicken. So, if I like PocketMoney so well, why am I giving Pocket Quicken a 5-star rating? It all comes down to the conduits - how the information transfers between your desktop and PDA.Pocket Quicken wins, hands down.PocketMoney requires a manual export procedure, where you have to designate a particular file directory. It doesn't always work all that well, even if you are an experienced computer user.If you are a novice, well, it's just too much trouble. Pocket Quicken's strengths more than make up for its weaknesses. It works so naturally with your desktop version of Quicken that every Hotsynch keeps both your PC and your PDA current.Compare the free trials of both versions, and I am convinced you will also come to the conclusion that Pocket Quicken is the best personal accounting software for your PDA.

PalmOne Zire Handheld Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $79.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Small, light, and compact, the Palm Zire handheld is a great PDA for anyone looking for a basic electronic personal information manager to help organize their tasks, meetings, and contacts. Getting started with the Zire is simple, making it ideal for people who are new to the world of handheld devices.
The Zire is attractively colored with a white front and a silvery gray back, but Palm really cut corners with the screen cover. The cover is made of a flexible plastic that flaps around when it is supposed to be centered on the screen, and is awkward to keep out of the way when you want to access the screen. It's so annoying we recommend not using it at all. Fortunately, the screen cover comes separate from the Zire itself so this is easy to do. While not a powerful handheld, the Zire is worth considering if you're looking for a way to keep your tasks, contacts, and meetings organized. It performs those tasks wonderfully, and is priced affordably. --Patricia Atherly Pros:
