5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful "cookbook" for "Joyful" sex
This classic guide for intimacy is a beautifully written and illustrated "cookbook" for the bedroom. The late Alex Comfort's almost poetic prose, ably aided by Clare Park's beautiful photography and Christopher Foss' now nearly-legendary color ilustrations, helps readers expand their sexual awareness and enhance their bedroom "playtime" to make their sex, well, more joyful.

While some people might be put off by Comfort's sometimes eclectic musings on various sexual practices, or even take issue with his statememts on bisexuality, this book should be in every couple's private library. This expanded edition was updated for the 1990s, and although much of the original 1970s edition's text was left unchanged, Comfort had to rethink some of his ideas about multiple partners as a result of the AIDS epidemic, something that all of us should still pay attention to.

Despite some use of erudite "History of Sex" material cited by other reviewers, Comfort didn't lapse into overly clinical language, using colloquialisms for male and female genitalia instead of their medical names. Comfort, after all, wasn't writing for doctors in a dry academic tome; he was writing to the rest of us, using words and phrases that we are comfortable using within the confines of our bedrooms.

There are, of course, other "cookbooks" with recipes for great sex, but Comfort's classic was, and still is, among the best of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
I don't care what the other reviewers say this is a classic and very informative and a book I would recommend that every home library has. The graphics are wonderful and like Betty Dodsons Sex for One the book doesn't over look the issue of masturbation or fellatio and cunnilingus. I also like the Joy Of Gay Sex and Joy Of Lesbian Sex which I first found at the Woman's Bookstore in Oakland years ago. The other thing I like about the Joy of Sex is the title says it all, and the book is not shabby looking but is something we keep handy just for the enjoyment of reading it. Sure, once you have read it a few times you have the information locked in your head and it isn't easily forgotten. But it is a book that we have purchased for our library system. And it is one of those books that gets checked out and never returned, sadly.

3-0 out of 5 stars QUITE COMFY
I refer to the original version from the early 70's. I didn't realize there are sequels. Beautiful artwork! Color-penciled renderings of people giving it their best shot. With chapters lke, "Pickles and Relishes", one gets a cook book rush. And there in lies the problem with this manual. Sex is best when spontaneous. Everyone knows that. Here in are recipes for the big "O". How sexy! Perhaps the publication of this handbook was inevitable given the zeitgeist of 1970. But this tome takes itself much too seriously as it purports to tell the reader "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex, But Were Afraid To Ask". Penned by Alex Comfort (you bet!) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Normal Panties on Normal Girls
I sat and thought for a while about how I felt about this book. It is different, I should say that first. The more I looked at the book the more I liked it. The reviews dont lie at all. These are not expensive model panties, but the panties that almost all girls/woman where everyday. No thongs or G-strings, just normal panties. The models are not special at all. Not all of the models are beautiful models that you would see in magazines, but the woman you pass on the street everyday. The range of models is large. From large to small, and almost none have makeup. I suppose that this book is a made a bit for everyone. Its not [explicit], yet not boring. Although, many of the pictures are of just girls standing there for the camera, posing, like a portrait. There are many vaginas in the book. Shaved, unshaved, close, and far. If you are looking for a book with panties as the main focal point, you will most likely not like this book. Half of the panties in the book are on the floor or around the models knees and ankles. The photography is so so. I kind of wish the lighting of the photos as a little more erotic, but instead it is very well lighted, as you would see in a regular photoshoot for a magazine. If you are looking for a book of normal girls lounging in their homes, doing homework, on the computer, watching movies, reading, you will not find it here. All and all I think that this book is a large achievment. We get a view of everyday woman in their panties, not the girls or panties you will see in the Victorias Secret catalog. I find this a great edition to any photography lovers collection or a great editon to any coffee table.

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest book of all time
I just got this today, just seeing the first 3 pages, I could tell that this book is greater than any book ever written/thought of.

I don't know much about photography, but I do know that this guy is a true god if he took these pictures. It's not really pornographic, as all the girls are standing/sitting around naked, but stil...this book is just pure goodness. Get it if you like gorgeous women or know things about cameras + lighting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Women you don't want to see in panties!
First of all, the hottest woman in the book is on the cover (and there is only 3 photos pf her). After that it is all downhill. If you are looking for a book of beautiful women in their panties, this is not it. If you are looking for average(mostly) women in their panties, then you have found it. I would ever go as far as to say there are a few ugly women in this book. That being said, the photography is about average. This is not some interesting work that is unque or special. It is kind of boring actually. I probably should have returned it, but i didn't, and it hasn't grown on me at all. So don't waste your money. You can find better. As a matter of fact, i would barely call this erotic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars From the author
No, I am not Jenna Jameson the porn
star! Similar name, but different person and different
game! This book is a refreshing examination of the lives of
a Canadian couple whose future has been shaped
by experiences of their past. Although we tend to
dismiss the effects of prostitution, its effects on
women carry on for many years; the character in this
book, Gabrielle, has tried to return to her roots but
her past - the street life of Thunder Bay - continues
to follow her, even into the remote
hunting camp of her Cree people.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad
I eagerly awaited this book, but then I deeply regretted that I've bought it. It's definitely not worth the paper. Well, the book contains everything I knew before, but all I want to know in addition (and there is still a lot!) is not adequately addressed. Very sparse technical information, no drawings, bad illustrations, no hints at all, nothing but ridiculously simple explanations.
In summary, there is no need to buy this book, except for a very beginner.

1-0 out of 5 stars I would love a good ETX book - but this is not it
I wanted to like this book, but unfortunately it's not worth the paper it's printed on. There is more and better information available free on Mike Weasner's terrific website (referenced on almost every page of the book). Nor does the book provide a valuable and handy reference - the long text articles about tuning the scope etc lack diagrams, illustrations, useful pictures... I almost laughed when the Seasonal Name Star Charts appeared several to a page and so small as to be utterly useless. Want to know how to carry your ETX outside? This book is for you. Want to know anything about accessories, programming the AutoStar, what the inside of the ETX looks like, CCD imaging, or similar topics? Forget it, it's not in there. Conclusion: If you want a good astronomy book, consider "The Backyard Astronomer's Guide" or "NightWatch". If you want ETX-specific information, visit Mike Weasner's website. And save your money until a useful ETX book is published - there is a need for one, but unfortunately this is not it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mike Weasner -- the Champion of ETX owners
This eagerly awaited book has finally arrived! Best of all, it is specifically directed to those of us who own and you use one of the Meade ETX scopes. It is an essential tool/accessory for anyone who uses an ETX to view the universe, and I'm sure others will no doubt find it helpful, as well. For those of us familiar with Mr. Weasner's site on the Internet, we all know that it is an invaluable source of information for any amateur astronomer, regardless of level of experience or equipment used. There is something for everyone, from the very first-time night sky watcher, to the novice beginner or the advanced user of the most complex and expensive gear available. As many times as I will return to that web site, now I have a handy, well organized, clearly written and equally useful compendium of information that I can carry with me and read anywhere at all (without having to download page after page and print, to bring with me in the field, or elsewhere). Great features are the wonderfully organized table of contents and useful index to quickly locate the kinds of things I want to know while using the book as a reference, whether away from the scope, or actually out observing the stars and celestial bodies, etc. The book is a "fast read" if you choose to 'devour' it that way (I did!) Thanks Mike!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars worth the money
I got this camera for my wife so she and I could video conference.
She and I are in different countries for a little while and talking via phone is very expensive.

We've been using Netmeeting to talk via highspeed internet and the picture from the QuickCam Pro 4000 is really good.

On her side the colors (from her own cam) are crystal clear. On my side I see a fairly clear picture. It's not perfect, but that is due to the connection. The signal is travelling more than 2000 miles..so I don't expect a perfect picture.

I work in Technology so I wasn't worried about setting up the cam. My wife on the other hand is an average computer user, that is to say, she knows how to turn it on and surf the web.
She was able to plug this camera in and have it work within 5 minutes.

I am impressed. This cam is a bit more expensive than most, but the ease of setup and the quality of the product make it worth it to us.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE SIMPLE FACTS ON THE LOGITECH PRO 4000
Ok, where do I start... After searching through dozens & dozens of reviews (Not only on this site & not only for the Pro 4000) Did I Come to the choice of the Pro 4000. I've read many negative & many positive reviews for this Webcam, so I thought what the hell & purchased one to find out for myself. here's what I can tell ya.

1. I use windows XP on my home pc and it installed the drivers for the Pro 4000 simply and efficiantly & works great.

2. The picture you get from the webcam is very, very clear, even when lighting is to a minimum. I bought this webcam so i could use it to see family in the UK, my brother purchased a more expensive one and the Picture quality between the two is beyond comparison, the Pro 4000 outshines his phillips and my mothers logitech messenger.

3. I like the auto zoom feature and you can also manualy zoom as well, so you have the best of both worlds.

Here's the negative...

1. Yes the microphone is sensative and does pick up background noise, if your having a party or playing loud music it's gonna pick it up.

2. The USB cable is a little heavy and can move your webcam a little, depends on how much slack you have for the wire. But you dont have to be a rocket scientist to tape a little slack down at the back of your PC so it does'nt move.

3. Reviews have mentioned how flimsy the base is, but I have had no problems with that.

4. It should come with more directions. Installation directions are basic, but ok. Needs to have directions regarding the software that comes with it, the movie maker is fun but it's gonna take you a while to find out what does what, just be patient!

5. If you want this webcam to take quality digital pics then dont bother, pics turn out grainy & not at all good quality.

6. Price, I search various places for the best deal and found some amazing prices, but then read the reviews on the company's that's selling the Pro 4000 and been detered. This is what I can tell you. If you want this webcam then buy it from Amazon, $80.00 is in the middle of the price range, but I know that Amazon has never let me down on delivery time or refunds. If your still not convinced on the Pro 4000 then buy it from Best Buy, your gonna spend $104.00, try it & see for yourself, if you dont like it, return it with no hassles , if you do like it, return it anyway & then order it from Amazon for $20.00 less!!
This saves you time in shipping and returning it, waiting for your money back etc..

Well, that's it. Ive never tried any other webcam's because I didn't need to! This IS the one webcam for me & maybe you....

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to install and setup!
By far, one of the easiest and fastest setups & installations I've ever done. Within 10 minutes of opening the package we were up and running and our boys were able to wave to their grandma & grandpa! LOVE IT!!!!!! We'll be buying one for all of our family members so we can stay in touch! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best value for the money
I bought this cam based on my needs and the reviews of others here and am glad I did. If you're looking for the best combination of value and features, this cam is for you.

If you're looking for a cam to chat with others online with, then this cam has all the features you need. You can pay twice as much (or more) for other cams with more features, and if money is no object to you then I'd spend more. But if you want solid, reliable features, then you're not going to beat the [$$$] or so you spend on this webcam.

I chose this over a Logitech model for 2 reasons. First, other reviewers complained about all but the more expensive models. Second, this was so much cheaper and offers the same features. Works with Yahoo, AOL, and MSN, and has great pics and supersize ability. Not as smooth as the more expensive models, but if you want the basics, this is for you.

Installation was easy--if you can read directions, you shouldn't have problems. I'm not going to accuse other reviewers of not being able to read, but I have Windows XP and had no problems installing at all. However, once the setup is complete, there are no other instructions...a more detailed troubleshooter would be nice. However, this is available online.

The 2 biggest features are making your own movies or using it as a live webcam. However, you can't do both simultaneously. So if you're using the camera to look at something, you won't be able to log onto yahoo webcam or any of the others...you'll have to shut it off first. Keep that in mind...took me 20 minutes to figure it out.

Enjoy this product!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best for the money by far - worthless software
-If you want an affordable, high quality camera for video chatting over MSN or Yahoo, this is a great choice. Simply plug it in and load the drivers and you are ready to video conference. I use it to talk to my family on the other side of the globe and save on international phone bills (it's free) using my DSL line. The resolution/frame rate is higher than most other cameras in this price range. To get a Logitech camera with the same video resolution, you have to pay more than twice the price. The picture quality is also great, even in low light. In fact, I needed to dim the lights in the room because there was too much glare.
-Unfortunately, the software doesn't work. I have a Celeron 2GHz Windows XP system and the software that came with the camera couldn't detect the camera. I contacted Creative Technical support and they were very responsive, but they couldn't fix the problem. The software seemed almost like it was a beta version or somebody's incomplete homework. Fortunately, the software is not necessary because I use Yahoo/MSN messenger to video conference and Windows MovieMaker for everything the software was supposed to do and then some.
-When you chat with someone, they don't need a camera to see your live video. So you can show them how good the product is and encourage them to get one too. The frame rate is much better with MSN, but the picture is larger with Yahoo. Yahoo has a super function that enables a faster frame rate, but I haven't been able to get it to work even though I have MSN DSL.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK if it works, very frustrating when it doesn't.
I bought two of these to do video conferencing with my parents. I installed it on my parents machine running Windows XP Home and everything worked fine. I then tried to install it on my home machine running XP Pro and it failed to recognize the camera. I tried on a laptop running XP Pro and it failed as well. I contacted Creative both by phone and email. They tried to helpful, but in the end nothing worked.

I spent many hours trying re-installs in safe mode, adjusting the bios, removing unrecognized USB devices from the device manager, clearing INF files, and nothing worked. Even the recommended install asks that you ignore the warnings that the drivers are not approved by Microsoft. If you're running XP it warns that you not be connected to the internet when you install the updated drivers from the site. Very clumsy.

Finally I gave up, bought a Logitech QuickCam Messenger and was up and going in under 10 minutes. ... Read more

Editorial Review

As with most books written by politicians while in office (or at least aiming for one), Living History is, first and foremost, safe. There are interesting observations and anecdotes, the writing is engaging, and there is enough inside scoop to appeal to those looking for a bit of gossip, but there are no bombshells here and it is doubtful the book will change many minds about this polarizing figure. This does not mean the work is without merit, however, for Hillary Clinton has much to say about her experience as first lady, which is the primary focus of the book. Those interested in these experiences and her commentary on them will find the book worth reading; those looking for revelations will be disappointed.

Beginning with a brief outline of her childhood, college years, introduction to politics, and her courtship with Bill Clinton, Clinton covers a wide variety of topics: life on the campaign trail, her troubled tenure as leader of the President's Task Force on National Health Care Reform, meeting with foreign leaders, and her work on human rights, to name a few. By necessity, she also addresses the various scandals that plagued the administration, from Travelgate to Whitewater to impeachment, though she does not go into great detail about each one; rather, she seems content to simply state her case and move on without trying to settle too many old scores.

Along the way, she offers many apologies, though perhaps not the kind some would expect. She does not shy away from her "vast right-wing conspiracy" comment, for instance, though she does wish that she had expressed herself differently. Regarding the Monica Lewinsky scandal, she maintains that her husband initially lied to her, as he did the rest of the country, and did not come clean until two days prior to his grand jury testimony. Calling his betrayal "the most devastating, shocking and hurtful experience of my life," she explains what the aftermath was like personally and why she has elected to stand by her man. In all, Living History is an informative book that goes a long way toward humanizing one of the most recognizable, and controversial, women of our age. Shawn Carkonen ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Insincere and transparent...
Mrs. Clinton surely has better things to do as NY's Senator than recant her take on the Clinton years. I confess I've not read this book in its entirety - I've read a substantial amount, however, and it doesn't take much to realize what Hillary is really going for. The whole thing reads like a compendium of modern fables, with seemingly insignificant folks having the most dramatic impact on her life, and vice versa. It shows a compassionate Hillary, an intelligent Hillary, a humorous Hillary, and most importantly, a forgiving Hillary. The book gets two stars instead of the abysmal one because it is entertaining in a way that I don't think it intended to be. Reading some parts while reflecting the historical moment references is just ridiculously funny.

If you can't read between the lines, the entire book is silently urging its readers to tell their friends "Hey, she's not that bad!" The "Living History" of which she speaks were the good ole years - and you know what, putting another Clinton in the White House just might bring em back! After all, it was a Republican president who was responsible for the economic downturn, no? Anyway, this book is nothing more than an insincere and transparent attempt to sell a woman with unlimited ambition and resolve to an American public weary of her and her husband. If you must read it, save the $20something bucks and run a few searches on various newspaper/journal websites about Hillary Clinton. I honestly couldn't give a rat's behind about half if not all of the stuff in this book - I'm far more interested in what she's doing, thinking, and desiring NOW.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Intelligent
I did not find the writer of this book to be at all 'self praising', but rather, painfully honest and straight-forward... SOMETHING WE NEED MORE OF IN DURING THE BUSH YEARS. How can any intelligent American, any intelligent HUMAN for that matter, think of the Clintons as self-praising, after the ordeals they withstood during their White House years? Yes, they brought much of it upon themselves, but I don't think that by talking, or writing, about things in retrospect with such honesty can be considered 'self praising' at all. Writing the book had to have been difficult for Mrs. Clinton, and reading it must have been hard for her husband, but at least it was honest and not contrived. However, it would go against logic for a hardcore republican and Bush supporter to show any admiration or 'like', for Hilary Clinton. But, I have to ask, how can any intelligent American complain about the Clinton's (so-called) 'self-praising'? If they do praise themselves (which I don't think they have done at all), it is much easier for me to tolerate than having to TRY and comprehend anything that idiotic Bush says. I think this is an honest book, and it must have been hard for Hilary Clinton to write, and hard for her husband to read. But they had to have enjoyed the parts filled with all the alleged 'self praise', right? WHATEVER!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book Made Me Nervous
I got this book as a gift. To be honest it made me nerous just holding the book. Life is short. I do not have time to read propaganda and fiction. This is just a PR move to broaden her appeal for 2008. I hope she runs and Rudy makes a comeback. It is not really a book as one knows books.

Sorry but that is my opinion.
