iConcepts IR Keyboard by iConcepts Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $69.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (3)
The stand that comes with the keyboard for your PDA looks like something from a dollar store. It is at once the flimsiest, cheapest, most pathetic piece of 'equipment' I have ever seen. The stand folds up, in a complicated puzzle-like way, into a single thick flat black box the size of two credit cards. Figuring out how to set it up the first time was an exercise in patience...I was mainly worried about snapping the thin joints attatched to the piece of reflective plastic that serves as a mirror. The wirelessness of this device is accomplished through communication through IRA transmission. Unfortunately, it takes FOREVER to find the right location for the keyboard so that you can type. I spent ten whole minutes the first time experimentally hitting keys and adjusting the mirror so that the IRA port on my PDA could 'communicate' with the one on the keyboard. It is not easy to set up, I wouldn't suggest this device if you needed to get it out in a hurry...like to take notes for class or something. The fastest way to connect is to type with the PDA upside down with its port pointing directly to the keyboard's port. Another major problem with the keyboard is the fact that it does not snap into place. Unless it is on a solid surface, the two sides of the keyboard are apt to slide apart and bend in the middle, making it impossible to type with it on the go. The keyboard comes with a badly made and rather large ugly synthetic leather case with a pocket for the keyboard and one for the stand. ... Read more Asin: B00007JO87 |

Sure you can do a litle web surfing but that is not its' true calling or intention.Checking your eMail is what this modem is all about and where it shines like the true star it is.Setup is easy and the supplied software is not the best but will get you where you want to go. Battery life is great and that makes it always a good device to carry along on any business trip.
When connecting to the Avantgo.com, the modem will sync to the site for just download enough informtion for the e-mails or web site. It appears in order to go to another web clipping, the modem has to re-connect, which seems like a hassle. However, for limited internet usage, and could also be used for stock market symbols, the modem will connect to the web clipping and then shut off. The modem has limited uses and is only a land line with no wireless use. The modem also uses 2 tripple A batteries, without recharable option. ... Read more Asin: B00005B6S3 |

PalmOne Zire and Zire71 Essentials Kit by PalmOne Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $19.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (4)
First, the package is misleading. It says "4 Premimum Screen Protectors."What they neglect to tell you is that you get 2 for the Zire and 2 for the Zire 71.Kudos to Amazon.com for putting things straight in their description.I should have shopped here first. The case is pretty good, but it covers up the headphone port for the Zire 71.Not good if you want to go jogging with MP3s.The only improvements over the original Zire 71 case is that it doesn't turn on the organizer on insertion and it has a handy belt loop if you want to look super-geeky. The screen protectors are highly-adhesive garbage.Try the ones made by Belkin. They have less adhesive. One of mine looked like someone took sandpaper to a small portion of it.It was so bad that I didn't even try to apply it for fear of getting sticky stuff on my screen for life. Why can't they make a static-cling screen protector? I am taking this thing back to the store where I bought it.Hopefully they will give me a refund. ... Read more Asin: B000099O3J |

iConcepts USB HotSync and Charger for Palm (i705, Tungsten T & m500 series) by iConcepts Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (9)
I bought this cable after being disappointed with the Palm USB hotsynch and recharger cable. (Note: I returned the Palm cable back to Amazon for a full refund because it just didn't seat properly in my Palm Zire 71 to allow for continuous recharging, not to mention a one of the plastic connector pins snapped off after only two uses!). Just like some of the other posts, the cable does not have a hotsynch button (so you have to hotsynch using the PDA's icon) and does appear to have some pins missing...but it apparently does not affect the proper functioning of the hotsynch and recharging. It is a good replacement for the cradle and is particularly useful when traveling (occupies very little space when coiled up inside a laptop bag). The only thing I wish that it had is an adapter so that I can recharge using a car lighter if I wanted to.
Despite having no button on the actual Palm connector, hotsyncing is simply activated from the Palm by using the hotsync program and pressing the hotsync icon in the middle (which is admittedly not extremely intuitive). I think the fact that it has no button is quite good, one less thing to break. The fact that it does not come with all the pins is no big deal, it's obvious only a few pins are required as hot syncing works seamlessly. It's a wonder why Palm do not design their cradle in a similar method, requiring a separate power source to charge the Palm while this cable takes it's power from the USB port. The only reason I can think of is when people are travelling, but even then, a separate travel charger is better than lugging that cumbersome cradle about. I use it with my Tungsten T and have not had a problem.
But: This product fits in your pocket, it's only a cable with a USB plug and a Palm plug in the other end, it's very easy to use, no additional software or drivers required, it charges your Palm in 30 minutes (ATTENTION: no from wall-plug, but from a pc USB port), Hotsync operation (you need to select from the handle because there isn't any hotsync-key on this product)... Simply all that you can do with the huge craddle provided by Palm. If your old craddle is no longer working, this product is a very good and cheap replacement with the same functions: all that you need is a pc with a USB port! ... Read more Asin: B00005V9BU |

PalmOne Zire 71 Handheld by PalmOne Average Customer Review: Electronics (23 April, 2003) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Palms Zire brand is designed primarily for consumers rather than for professionals. The first Zire was a low cost, entry level machine, this one, the second in the range, is a multimedia extravaganza. The most eye catching feature of the Zire 71, after youve noticed the sleek rounded blue casing for the hardware, is the built-in digital camera.
Palm has even produced a new version of Palm Desktop to help you make the most of managing digital images. This includes a nice viewer and some editing tools. Palm Desktop also, incidentally, has a new installer which is more efficient than before when it comes to selecting multiple applications to send to your Palm. The Zire 71 runs version 5 of the Palm operating system, which has improved sound features. Install the provided copy of the Real One player and you can play MP3 music through headphones. Gaming is assisted by a joystick style navigation button that sits beneath the screen. But when you want to use the Zire 71 for more traditional personal information management tasks you can tap the application shortcut buttons to launch Date Book, Address Book or Note Pad. The fourth button takes you to your digital photo library. As usual these buttons can be reallocated to other applications if you like. Only 13MB of to the 16MB of memory on board is actually available for applications and data, but an SD card slot means you can add to this easily. The screen is a superb transreflective TFT type it is the best weve seen on a PDA from Palm. The Universal Connector means existing peripherals like keyboards which support this should work without problems with the Zire 71. The Zire 71 is a great multimedia PDA which finally puts Palm in a position to rival Sony for its Multimedia crown. --Sandra Vogel ... Read more Features Reviews (170)
