Whirley Pop Gourmet Popcorn with 6-Quart Stovetop Popcorn Popper
by Wabash Valley Farms
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $39.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

From a family farm in Indiana's Wabash River Valley comes this delightful hand-cranked popcorn popper based on a century-old design. Made of aluminum, with a stainless-steel stirring system, wood handles, and durable plastic crank gears, the popper is not merely a nod to nostalgia. It's billed as the "World's Fastest Home Popper," and while that claim can't be substantiated, it's true that about three minutes after corn kernels hit the heat, the 6-quart popper fills with fluffy popcorn. Steam vents release excess moisture so--unlike chewy microwave popcorn--the Whirley Pop's product is light, tender, and crisp. Cranking ensures kernels pop nearly simultaneously; none are burned; and only a teaspoon of oil is needed. Four 6-1/2-ounce bags of theater-style popcorn accompany the popper, making it a terrific gift. Also included is a booklet containing popcorn lore and 50 recipes. The popper carries a 25-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Made in USA and Best Popcorn Ever
I thought microwave popcorn was convenient--This popper beats all! Control the seasonings, the butter...in 4 minutes you have a fully popped container...no unpopped kernals, nothing burnt. Make "movie theater style," kettle corn with sugar, one of the colored popcorns (red, blue or white or plain) or just popcorn with a little olive oil. The kids love it too--much cooler but reminiscient of the jiffy pop days of the 1970s! Plus Whirly pop makes them in the USA which is MY BIG THING! This cannot compare with some cheap knock off made in China...Happy Popping!

5-0 out of 5 stars I now love popcorn!
I was never a fan of microwave or movie popcorn, but my husband was.I bought this for him, and now I eat just as much as he does. It's easy to clean, easy to use, and the recipe booklet that was included has great ideas! The popcorn comes out tender and never chewy, and there's usually only a kernel or two unpopped.Best of all, we save so much money by not buying microwaveable popcorn-and we often forgo sweets to make popcorn. This has easily paid for itself in mere months. We're buying this for both of our parents this Christmas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Popcorn!
We purchased this popper some time ago to replace another brand, and this one is the greatest.Turns out the best popcorn you can eat.Beats microwave or air popped corn hands down!

You can pop with or without oil.

My only complaint is the plastic gears connecting the crank to the stirring filaments. We use the popper at least weekly, and it wasn't long before the plastic wore down and "stripped" to the point that the crank shaft spun uselessly in the gear.We were able to drill a tiny hole and insert a tiny metal pin that fixed the problem, but not everyone is going to have the tools or the patience to do that.

I saw a popper in a local store that used metal gears.Maybe Wabash should think about doing the same to give their popper excellent durability.

This will become my standard wedding gift to couples I know entering marriage! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cheese
The service from iGourmet is impeccable

Everything arrived in perfect condition i.e. ripe (and therefore "stinky" just like it should be!!)

The Styrofoam packaging was the perfect vessel for delivery; the cheese arrived "alive" from not being over chilled.

I have not had cheese of this quality outside France, and this is the first time I have found "perfect" cheese in the US.

If you like top quality "stinky" cheese this is for you.........

5-0 out of 5 stars delicious!
A friend sent me this as a gift and it was wonderful! I loved those cheese, I just wished there were more! They are delicious with wine, crackers, good bread, as snacks, for lunch, with friends, or just whenever! I had to force myself to eat it a little at a time to make it last longer although my fridge did stink for a few weeks! But I loved it :) Of course, it's definitely not for those cheddar lovers or people who like colorless and tasteless "cheeses"!

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible service
The actual cheese is GREAT, if you can get them to ship to you.Ordered items as gifts - took over a week to ship. For timely gifts you would be better off going around the corner.Otherwise a great deal. ... Read more

Ooh la la! Le Creuset, famous for its beautiful enameled cast-iron cookware, offers this handsome, heavyweight fondue set that is wonderful for an intimate party or romantic dinner. Made in France, whose famous Alps are dotted with dozens of authentic fondue restaurants, it turns out a delicious meal with little fuss. The trick to fondue is keeping it evenly heated for the length of a party or dinner--cheese fondue in particular separates or burns onto the pot if the temperature varies or the pot has hot spots. This fondue set, with its even conductivity of cast iron, maintains a regular, gentle heat that keeps cheese, chocolate, or other sauces smooth and well-heated. The pot rests above a heavy, black cast-iron stand, which shelters an adjustable alcohol burner. Brightly colored, sturdy and charming, this is a set to be passed down through many generations of cooks. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

I used 6 different styles of fondue pot. This one is definately the best.Because it's made of cast iron, scorching is minimized.Chocolates and cheeses melt wonderfuly.Controlling the heat works better than others I've used.

Editorial Review

Proving that big performance doesn't necessarily mean "big ticket," Panasonic's DVD-S25K DVD player handles standard DVD-Video, DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW, MP3-encoded CDs, and even JPEG picture discs. A handy feature called Quick Replay jumps back seven to 10 seconds in case you miss an important bit of action or dialogue, while high-resolution 24-bit/192 kHz audio processing and 10-bit/54 MHz video processing ensure vivid sound and picture from all compatible sources.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-S25K features a progressive-scan video processor that doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal (from 480i to 480p) by scanning all 525 lines in 1/60 of a second for each pass. The result? Higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. A composite-video input offers compatibility with nearly all televisions; use a video modulator (not included) if you have an older TV with only a threaded coaxial audio/video input.

The unit offers audio features like Dialogue Enhancer (which boosts the volume of the center channel during Dolby Digital 5.1-channel presentations) and a coaxial digital-audio output for channeling DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound to a surround-decoding audio/video receiver. Also included are Hi-Speed Smooth-Motion Scan (which enables fast-forward/reverse at up to 200 times normal speed, offering a quick way to access desired scenes), repeat play, random play, track programming, and resume play (which picks up right from the point where you stopped, current disc only).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good one
I bought this dvd player about 2 months ago and its been working good so far. I played about 10 dvd's and few MP3 discs in it till now. And I never had any problem. I can't comment on recommending this product to others yet because I myself didnot use it much so far.But for the price$56 its best compatible one with my Sharp TV so far.

1-0 out of 5 stars piece of crap dvd player
I received this Panasonic piece of crap as a Xmas "gift" much to my chagrin as I'd sworn off buying ANY Panasonic products after they refused to help with a problem that occurred with a very expensive 2.4 phone.I may have used the DVD S25 unit a total of JUST FIVE OR SIX times before it suddenly gave me "no disc" messages.I take impeccable care of ALL my electronic equipment. The F-ing warranty for Labor (90 days) is a joke as it took me close to 6 months for the problem to surface. They wanted at least $90 to fix it.The unit cost $80 brand new.Now they are online for $55.BOYCOTT ALL PANASONIC PRODUCTS!

I wanted to get this Item for my parents wedding anniversary. They reside in India I just wanted to know if someone knows a way to convert the voltage source from American to Indian. Has anyone done this before.

Also does this player play WMV files. I have a few movie discs that are in a WMV format. let me know

Editorial Review

Pilates is one of the hottest exercise trends because it strengthens the "girdle of strength"--the core muscles of the trunk--for a lean, strong, balanced body.Pilates for Beginners is an exceptionally well-designed, 75-minute program that makes Pilates accessible to novice exercisers. Mature and skillful instructor Jillian Hessel has been teaching Pilates for 20 years. She first teaches the fundamentals with a male assistant, illustrating differences between male and female bodies in positioning and performing the exercises, and practicing movements you'll need later. Then she and two assistants present a classic Pilates mat workout, with one person modifying the exercises to make them easier, and another making them more challenging. They exercise in a peaceful, outdoor setting, using props as needed: a heavy resistance band, seat riser, and cushions. An excellent program that you can grow with, starting with the easiest modifications and progressing to the most challenging. --Joan Price ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars very informative but, annoying mat workout
Okay, Pilates is complicated, posture is very important along with breathing and holding in some body parts while extending others.

I did weights for years and was just sick of them. I went to a Pilates studio just to check it out. I signed up for private sessions for 4 months, it was fantastic but, very expensive. I was forced to stop most exercises for 3 months after an injury. So, when I put this DVD on it was like starting over. But, I thought it would all come back to me. And, it did sort of.

Even though I think this DVD is informative I found the instructor a bit annoying as I hated every level quickly blurted out for each exercise. After being in a Pilates studio with private instructors I discovered there are very small movements to concentrate on and form is everything so, with 3 levels being done at once I found it very distracting.

I don't think this is a good way to start out again. Or start out at all. I am now looking for DVD's that show each level of instruction separately. Believe me, paying for 3 great videos is better than one video with everything crammed into one. I bought this DVD because it said , "Pilates for BEGINNERS" if it's for beginnners then why did someone decide to have the instructor blurt out levels 1, 2, 3 for each exercise at the same time? -( ANNOYING.

Pilates is much more complicated than weights and if you want to do it right it's a big commitment, which I don't mind making. There are so many things to remember and then forget ..to feel like a private instructor is in your living room I think a slightly slower pace with better visual and verbal queues would be much more useful and informative and effective.

Bottom line is that mat workout felt like a bad, 3 way phone conversation.

5-0 out of 5 stars I thought it was great!!
I am surprised at the other reviews, as I thought this DVD was great! It was the first one that I tried, and maybe That was why I enjoyed the in depth instruction. I thought it was great that there were 3 different levels included, and I thought that jillian hessler was a triffic instructor. The props used really do help to isolate the proper muscles and since buying them I have enjoyed my workouts even more. This DVD has even prompted me to buy more of the Gaiam series! I love the outdoor locations and soothing music ( I think that that is why they are not smiling, they are focusing on their breathing and centering...I found it to be quite relaxing and soothing.)
I am a real beginner, and feel good in the fact that I can take this one product and advance through it to the advanced level.
It gets an A+ from me!
PS- I also had no technical problems...maybe they have fixed them since the last reviewers bought theirs??

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring!
First off, Jillian does a _great_ job describing proper positioning and breathing; however, the workout section was so boring that I couln't even finish the session. They all look bored, themselves. No smiling, no apparent energy or passion for what they are doing...just stone cold faces and almost robot-like movement through the few and low-repetition exercizes.

I also don't at all like the info-mercial aspect to the Gaiam DVDs...the instructors always seem to recommend some prop to aid in doing some move rather than describing what muscle groups are supposed to be used to help control the motion naturally.

This DVD is dull and uninspiring ... Read more

Editorial Review

With The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown masterfully concocts an intelligent and lucid thriller that marries the gusto of an international murder mystery with a collection of fascinating esoteria culled from 2,000 years of Western history.

A murder in the silent after-hour halls of the Louvre museum reveals a sinister plot to uncover a secret that has been protected by a clandestine society since the days of Christ. The victim is a high-ranking agent of this ancient society who, in the moments before his death, manages to leave gruesome clues at the scene that only his granddaughter, noted cryptographer Sophie Neveu, and Robert Langdon, a famed symbologist, can untangle. The duo become both suspects and detectives searching for not only Neveu's grandfather's murderer but also the stunning secret of the ages he was charged to protect. Mere steps ahead of the authorities and the deadly competition, the mystery leads Neveu and Langdon on a breathless flight through France, England, and history itself. Brown (Angels and Demons) has created a page-turning thriller that also provides an amazing interpretation of Western history. Brown's hero and heroine embark on a lofty and intriguing exploration of some of Western culture's greatest mysteries--from the nature of the Mona Lisa's smile to the secret of the Holy Grail. Though some will quibble with the veracity of Brown's conjectures, therein lies the fun. The Da Vinci Code is an enthralling read that provides rich food for thought. --Jeremy Pugh ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nilly Vanilly
The characters are predictable one dimensional cartoons, the good guys are the atheist tree hugging narcissistic pagans, the bad guys include a very pale man who believes in God; the hedonistic oh-so-witty and sophisticated heroes manage to have the upper hand at every turn so there is zero suspense once you catch on to his technique. This book is just not very good fiction plain and simple. Pass on this [...]. Go waste your money on something [...] fattening, but please do not encourage the dumming down of the reading public.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gread read
Even though it is a historical fiction, this is a very good book to read. True that some of the points he wrote about were true. But we should know that this is open to interpretation. What is also important is that as readers, we should be able to discern where historical truths end and where fiction begins. I have read a great deal of historical fictions, and know how misleading historical fictions can be. Nothing that is written in this novel is exact. The father of this theme that Dan Brown took in this book is Michael Baigent , the author of HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL. He said it succinctly that he did not believe about the grail story because he did not know. What he wrote was what people said, many of whom were hazy about it. So, he wrote using "it is said that". That is what makes writings glaringly historical fictions. Equally good historical fictions are HOLY BLOOD HOLY GRAIL,DISCIPLES OF FORTUNE, THE TRIUMPH OF THE SUN.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story
This is a wonderful adventure that is often misunderstood as pure fact.It is a page turner and very difficult to put down. The illustrations are incredibly helpful if you aren't too sure what they are referring to like myself. They are also beautiful. The book itself is quite large so if you enjoy bringing books with you on your travels, this one is quite difficult to lug around. The chapters are very short which makes for an easy read for just about anyone.I love a book that can take one meaning and flip it around to have another meaning that comes out of nowhere. Some of these things may be from the research Dan Brown had done, but many are just from good writing.A thrill to read, highly recommended. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Magazine, but missing something...
The InStyle Magazine is a very good magazine whether you are into style or are hopelessly trying to understand the definition of the word.I will give InStyle this:they do not just cater to the Oscar-rich type stylish people. They also cater to the not-so-rich stylish people, and even if you are not as rich as the not-so-rich folks, you can take the basic principles in the magazine and go garage-saleing in style. You really can. Why?Because they usually look at every celebrity they're featuring and break down their method of style, from hair to makeup to clothing. The reason I say it is missing something is because they don't really give you the meat and potatoes. They don't really tell you HOW to apply the makeup or HOW to do the hair. They just give you basic guidelines, like what hairstyle and makeup looks good with what face type and what style of clothing best flatters what body type.If you're looking for ideas, subscribe. If you're looking for the HOW, don't bother.

There is plenty of articles about traveling style, Oscar/Red Carpet style, party style... all the styles you can imagine. The issues are usually thick, although you only get 10 per year.It is a feast for the eyes, but again, for the know-how specifics, it falls short.

If you are interested in just learning the basics of style, such as what clothing article looks most flattering for your body type or how to buy your clothing to ensure quality, or how to care for your clothing, I would highly recommend their book: InStyle: the Secrets of Style. There might be better books out there, but I haven't run into any.Once they cover the basics, the go step-by-step style, for each article of clothing. It is not a bad investment at all.If you pair their book with a subscription to their magazine, you are likely to develop a sense of style if you don't have one, and you'll become much more confident in developing your own style without having to depend on what others think is stylish.

Last thing:I like to collect clothing catalogs like Spiegel or Victoria's Secret or Eddie Bauer or companies that I am more likely to buy my clothing from in addition to reading InStyle. That way, I can come up with my own style using the articles of clothing that are actually available from my clothing retailer without having to go way out of my league to get a specific look or dress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Instyle Is InCredible
If your looking for the ins and outs of celebrity fashion and lifestyle, this magazine has it all. It has great photographs of your favorite stars (and what they're wearing), interesting articles, and fantastic fashion and beauty tips. I look forward to reading this magazine every month!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Subscription
I subscribe to a ton of magazines, and this is definitely my favorite. If you are looking for in-depth articles on different issues, subscribe to Vanity Fair (another great magazine). But, if you are looking for lots of celebrities, lots of fashion and beauty, and great tips, this is for you. What I like most is that it doesn't have all of those stupid articles on how to have sex, or how to trap and keep a man (i.e. Cosmopolitan). I think we all got past that content in high school? INSTYLE is a great buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for adults too
You have to have a sense of humor to play this game. It's not actually educational so much as fun. Most of the words on here you would never have heard of, unless of course, your major is Old Dead English Words. This game is great for drinking parties. It's also fun for just easy laughs with friends. The game is basically about how well you can bull*hit.

You make up definitions to words or you pick the actual definition of obscure words.Keep a straight face and be as creative as you can. Your own imagination makes this game fun!

Definitely try this game! It's a lot of fun once you start it. This game works best with a decent sized group of people (more than 4).

The more creative you are, the more fun you will have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good party game
This is a great game to play at parties or take on vacation. Many of these words might be too hard for children. But, for adults it is a lot of fun. The object is to come up with a definition of some obscure word in order to fool your opponents.
I have A lot of fun with this game. I generally like to come up with some riddiculous answer

for example: One word was Throp- I gave the definition "Something a 'thrabbit' does!"

Many of the words are nouns. and many of the words are technical jargon of a specific field or profession.

Its a good vocabulary biulder. Great practice for the game of scrabble.

5-0 out of 5 stars MASSIVLY improved from the first version
I just played the new version for the first time last weekend at a friends.Wo... so much better!Instead of just thinking up definitions for crazy words, you can also think of...

Film Plots:You are given the name of a movie, such as "Hot Under The Collar" and you make up a one sentence plot description.

People:You're given a name, such as "Jennifer Leland" and you makeup why she might be famous.(I don't care for this category too much... too hard to tell from a name what someone might have done.)

Initials:You're given a set of letters, such as D.H.F.C. and then you makeup something it could stand for.

Silly Laws: "In New Jersey it is against the law to bake apple pies..." and then you finish the sentence.

All players hand in their made-up definitions, descriptions, etc to someone who reads them all, along with the REAL one, and everyone tries to guess which one is legitimate.

I would personally disagree with the reviews which say this game isn't meant to be taken seriously, and the idea is to be as silly as possible.I think it's quit fun to try and concoct answers that fool people into guessing that yours is the correct answer. But however you want to pay it, there's no doubt that this is one the all-time great party games, and it's well worth the twenty-five bucks. If you try it and don't have an absolute blast, email me and (depending on my mood) I'll refund your money.:-)

Not every 16-year-old white, English girl can hang with the likes of Betty Wright ("Clean Up Woman") and Angie Stone. Joss Stone (no relation), however, is blessed with a strong voice and a will to sing old-school soul. This debut CD is worthy of more than novelty status, though. Wisely avoiding iconic songs by the genre’s biggest names, Stone and a production team that includes Wright opt for lesser-known tunes more often by the likes of Laura Lee, Joe Simon, and the Soul Brothers Six--not to mention their digging out (with guest co-producer ?uestlove from the Roots) the great soul lyric in the White Stripes’ "Fell in Love with a (Boy)." Joss Stone occasionally misses a connection; her "Some Kind of Wonderful" is listless, and when she develops a bit more subtlety, it’ll be welcome. But The Soul Sessions has a spark beyond the album’s obvious good taste. --Rickey Wright ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A lovely beginning. . .
I think Ms. Stone has an outstanding voice. I also really enjoyed a return to more soulful music; she could have very easily made a crappy pop album sound good. I found, however, that on several of the tracks she wasn't moving me. And I was wanting to be moved. It just wasn't happening for me. It's like her great pipes weren't really connecting with the nuance of the lyrical content. She can belt out a tune beautifully, but what use is that if she doesn't have the ability to tell the story with any kind of depth? At least not yet. And considering how young she was when this was recorded, I am quite impressed. That said, I can't wait until this young lady matures into a fierce, powerhouse of a woman. This is an impressive debut that only hints at the real deal yet to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Joss Stone-- The Future of R&B
I have both albums and I LOVE them. This girl is an amazing talent and her ethnicityshouldn't even be a factor of that. She blows way past some of this garbage that is passing for R&B. It saddens me thatsome people will never be able to see past her color and recognizewhat she's doing to promote real R&B/Soul music. Her voice is already lush and well-seasoned at 18, so it will be a treat to see how her voice has progressed in another 10 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's up with all the Hate? Do ur thing Joss

I am really disgusted by some of the reviews of this album. Why can't we all be music lovers and just love music for what it is and not make it about race. One reviewer wrote that "Black people don't like Joss Stone and she has no soul blah blah blah". Well guess what? Joss Stone's music is supported very well in the black community. She get's alot of love from and airplay from the Urban AC radio stations(spoiled a top10 hit) than any other radio format. She is raved by the urban AC DJ's and artists like the roots, angie stone etc . People should just ignore the racially motivated reviews on here because we the intelligent urban community folks don't think like that, we love music for the music. Good music know no color, age, or language, it cuts across all boundaries. Review the Album for what it is and nothing else. Joss Stone like a few other great artist of today like, Lyfe Jennings, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, John Legend, Van Hunt, Anthony Hamilton, Ricky Fante, India Arie, are a breath of fresh air from the current Junk Music filling the airwaves
